Five Sails changes their menu completely by their Head Chef Alex Kim, Top Chef winner of 2025. They are pleasantly surprised. Reservation requires a deposit to avoid no show. As we walked in the restaurant we were greeted by the host and take us to our usual table. The new restaurant manager Ellie also came to greet us at our table with explanations and introductions to their new menu. Overall the dishes are prepared with great attention to detail and gastronomy. They are well presented and pleasing to the eyes! I asked for low sodium diet and they have noted to offer in our future visits. There are some minor servicing details where the restaurant manager demonstrates the eagerness to listen and continue to improve and enhance the dinning experience. The restaurant decor is elegant and refined. The background music could be a little bit softer and I personally prefer music to songs. Overall we thoroughly enjoy tonight's dinning experience and have made an upcoming reservation to celebrate my birthday next month. This restaurant is definitely back to our to-go lists in celebration.

Service 5 stars Food 5 stars Ambiance 4 stars Amazing food. Gracious service led by by Martina. Amazing chef and staff! Highly recommend. The structure of the room has large posts, which distract from the wonderful view of the waters and activities outside the ceiling-to-floor wall of windows.

I wanted to Celebrate my Partners Birthday here. From the moment we walked in. We were greeted by the wonderful Host. The Manager Ellie and the Sommelier Sara greeted us and welcomed us to our table. Great Start to a wonderful experience. Jesse took care of us the whole time. He recommended the Sea Bass which was divine. Annika, Ofelia, and Remi were very knowledgeable and explained the dishes as they brought them out. Antonio the Bartender and his creation on the cocktails. Great cocktails. Chef Alex Kim menu this fall season is wonderful. I always recommend people go to Five Sail. Five Sails deserves a Michelin Star!!! Thank you everyone at Five Sails for the Amazing Experience!!!

First course of tasting menu - Hamachi crudo

Booked Five Sails for last Saturday evening to celebrate my friend's birthday. As she loves a tasting menu, she selected the menu from here. We parked underneath the Pan Pacific Hotel/Convention Centre and it cost $9 for the entire evening. Pretty good for a prime downtown location, I was expecting around $20. We got to the restaurant approximately 20 minutes early but they were able to accommodate us. Windows seats with the beautiful water and mountains views are on a first come first serve basis so we lucked out. The restaurant is elegant and cozy and our experience started with the hostess taking our coats and asking how we were in a genuine manner. Our server introduced herself quickly and brought us a bottle of sparkling water for my friend and still water for myself. We decided on the 5 course tasting menu for $120/person and the Birthday girl decided to add on the extra $89 wine pairings. 20% gratituty is added automatically to the tasting menu, which I thought was more than fair especially with the high level of service we received with multiple staff serving us. We were served a complimentary truffle steamed egg amuse buche that was cute and tasty. A small brioche bread was served warm and flakes for us to also share. First course was the Hamachi credo. This was served cold and was fresh, delicate, and gave us summer vibes. Quite tasty and refreshing! Second course was the poached oysters. We got two small oysters in a beautifully delicate tarragon vin blanc sauce that had us dipping the brioche bread to soak up the auromatic flavours. Small portion but was delightful. Third course was the seared Hakkaido scallops. These were perfectly cooked and also served in a delicious sauce. We ended ordering an extra brioche bread to share ($10) to dip and enjoy the sauce from this dish as well. Finally, the main entree was a local fraser valley dry aged duck breast topped with foie gras. Duck was wonderfully seared with a crispy skin on top and the foie gras was *chef's kiss*. My only complaint is there wasn't more of it as the duck breast was only a strip and didn't completely filled me as the main entree. The final course was dessert - a Walnut cake topped with toffee ice cream and cream filling. This was light and not overly sweet. My friend enjoyed this with an expresso while I enjoyed it with a pot of Jasmine green tea. To top it off, they provided a complimentary honeycomb cake dessert with a candle and champagne to celebrate my friend's birthday - a beautiful touch! My friend quite enjoyed all her wine pairings although half the staff who poured the wines seemed to have little to no knowledge of the wines they were pouring. For the type of venue and price point, plus the fact that they have an in house sommelier and bar tender, we kinda expected more. I did enjoy my Yuzu mocktail and appreciate that they offered several mocktails and said they could even put together a mocktail pairings for the tasting menu if I wanted to. For two tasting menus ($120 each), one wine pairings ($89), extra brioche ($10), Yuzu mocktail ($12), bottle of Sparkling water, espresso, Jasmine green tea, and automatic 20% gratituty, it came out to be $452.10 for two. Quite easily the most expensive dinner I've bought to date but it was an experience and my friend loved it.

    Weekday afternoon tea

We came for afternoon tea to celebrate my friends birthday We ordered the weekday afternoon tea. They start with some complimentary bread. Everything on the menu was actually pretty good. My favourite was the fried ham and cheese french toast. The sweets weren't too sweet and the portion was pretty good for the price The beautiful view was also perfect for the occasion Service wasn't overly attentive and was prompt. They didn't refill our tea very often but other than that it was pretty good

Enjoyed our afternoon tea here with a fantastic view of the bay and 5 sails! Loved the brioche with fresh butter and compote. Also enjoyed the tea sandwiches. The jelly cup was refreshing as well. Didn't like the sesame muffin too much.

    The Mist

Beautiful bar with friendly staff inside the Pan Pacific hotel. Lovely spot to relax and look out over the harbor after a day of touring around the city. Creative drink menu. The Mist, a signature cocktail, was a little sweet for me, but it was so beautiful, garnished with flowers and glitter, served with a misty-smoke, I drank it anyway. Staff was fabulous and shared great tips for places to visit during our visit. Recommend.

Whenever I've come to Vancouver, I've stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel and dined at their Five Sails restaurant on the final evening of my stay. This year was no exception but this time I was accompanied by my sister-in-law (SIL). I brought a bottle of wine with me, a 2015 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou from St. Julien that I purchased aboard the Koningsdam two days earlier. Five Sails has a $65 corkage fee if they don't have that wine in their cellar. This is one of my favorite wines and the sommelier was very gracious and opened it with flair and panache. We chose seared foie gras ($34) and burrata ($26) as our appetizers and the duck three ways ($56) and the halibut ($49) as our entrees. Crispy fingerlings were our accompaniment. The wine did not disappoint; it is one of my favorite wines from St. Julien, so smooth and seductive, smoky, black fruit with a great finish. My SIL was impressed with the wine; she thought it was fabulous. If I see foie gras on the menu, I order it. It was fine and came with a large milk bread roll and decorated with pieces of apricot. The burrata was a beautiful presentation of cheese surrounded by sungold tomatoes, strawberries and decorated with basil and pickled pistachio with a Modena balsamic. It was one of the best versions of this dish in memory. The Haida Gwaii halibut was herb crusted with a citrus dashi foam hiding roasted mushrooms and a tea butter fondue. The star of the evening was my Fraser Valley Duck, a seared duck breast, a confit leg and a large piece of foie gras. I can never have too much foie gras. The sauce was an orange Madeira jus. SIL saw fingerling potatoes and had to order it. This was like a poutine as crispy pieces of fingerling potatoes were topped with caramelized onion, Tete de Moine cheese and some pieces of braised short rib. It was a very good accompaniment. We were too full for dessert, so I ended the meal with an Americano ($7). Five Sails did not disappoint; I've been coming here since 2003, and it remains consistently good. Good views, good food ... Recommended!

We came for their Dine Out Vancouver menu. The food was superb and the service was amazing. Thanks for the wonderful dining experience.

    Fall theme high tea menu
    Tania U.

This is one of the best high tea experiences we've ever had. It feels on par with the Empress high tea. While the Empress offers a more traditional approach, this one stands out with its modern twist. I love how they keep it seasonal. The Fall-themed high tea we had today was delightful. The service was excellent, polite, attentive, and thoughtful. And the view? Absolutely unbeatable. It wasn't very busy during Sunday lunchtime, but I highly recommend making a reservation to snag a table with a view. A truly memorable experience!

Amuse bouche. Japanese chawanmushi with ikura and fried onions. Delicate steamed egg custard texture.

What an absolute delight to dine here. The view is gorgeous as we got lucky with the weather. It didn't rain despite the forecast. It turned out clear and sunny. We made reservations weeks in advance as there were 5 of us. Only one bigger table by the window so book early. The other tables by the window were for 2-4 people. Service was pretty good despite some mishaps ~ dropping of cutlery, mistakes in the bill. The staff were very genuine and affable. I love how the menu is so different from the typical chain restaurants. Using local produce and protein, you get to try what the province offers. We got started with the complimentary amuse bouche. It was an egg custard with fried onions and ikura, essentially a chawanmushi. Unexpected but good. The bread was warm, fluffy and soft. The butter was whipped to an airy light texture and it went so well with the bread that I had 3 pieces in the end. The entire basket! The staff kept bringing us the bread without us asking. Maybe also because it did take a while for our entrees to be served. The presentation for everything was carefully thought of. They paid attention to details. So you also got to eat with your eyes. My friend had the brown cow and it was the prettiest brown cow I ever seen. Served in a crystal cut glass, the cocktail had a slice of dried orange on it. My iced tea was house-made using Earl grey tea and lemon. Very refreshing. All of us enjoyed our mains. - Haida Gwaii halibut (it was served with herb tea beurre fondue, custardy foam and roasted mushrooms) - Peace River Lamb (served with roasted sweetbread and lamb sausage tartlet, sweet peas and lemon mint) - Fraser Valley Duck (served with foie gras and confit, asparagus, Parisienne gnocchi, orange and Madeira jus) The duck was delicious! It didn't look like a huge portion but I was full about 3/4 through and had to struggle to finish the last 2-3 slices of duck. The foie gras was Yums! We also shared scallops which was cooked perfect. It was sweet and tender. The desserts were not the usual chocolate layer or lava cake, cheesecake, carrot cake or apple pie etc. The desserts were an art. Beautifully presented. If you like to post to the gram, get the Apple. It was Instagram friendly. Get ready to do a video. Sadly I didn't realize it was something unexpected. The Apple was in a glass lid filled with smoke, so you would see the smoke escaping once the lid was taken off. Quite cool. The dessert was in the shape of an apple too. We also had Honey (recipe from the pastry chef's Ukrainian grandma) which looked amazing. Raspberry vanilla tart was a seasonal (Spring) item. The Grand Marnier soufflé required 35-40 mins prep, so order early. I was too stuffed and so had the trio of ice cream and sorbet. Again, not the typical flavors of vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. I had the brown butter and chocolate ice cream with a tropical sorbet. That was so refreshing with a mixture of fruits (coconut, banana, mango and Passionfruit). Then we were surprised with a sweet ending from the restaurant. We were given mignardise of chocolate truffle and a citrus jelly. This is a place I'll want to come back again. They also have afternoon tea on weekends. Reservations highly recommended.

It was my first time at Five Sails, went here for my partner's birthday and I couldn't have made a better choice! When I made the booking I had told them that we are there to celebrate his birthday. They were kind enough to provide us with a birthday cake on the house as well as a glass of wine for my partner!! Definitely made it a special day for him. :) We got a seat on the couch that directly faced the waterfront!! Unfortunately, it was a rainy day so the sunset wasn't as good but we still enjoyed the beautiful view. We were welcomed a chef's special amuse bouche which were delicious!! I was also a fan of their presentation. They also served us warm bread and butter. Our server recommended a sweet white wine for us that we thoroughly enjoyed. It paired well with our risotto which was delicious! Couldn't get enough of it! We got their Burrata as an appetizer but was a bit disappointed. There were too many flavours in that small dish which according to me, did not blend too well. Overall, 5/5 experience and would definitely return again!

Beautiful experience and the views cannot be beat! The food was delicious but be prepared to spend some money. They served bread and a foie gras mousse as an appetizer which was a nice touch and on point. The service was stellar, we felt very attended to. When I return I would like to try the chef's tasting menu as well as make sure I catch sunset. Did I mention the view?

The front of the house/bar area seems to be more vibrant colours with the bright pop of red which ties into the rugs in the main dining area. I'd probably remove the second rug but if I had to guess, I'd say red may be Feenie's favourite colour as it is a touch out of place. With Michelin stars making their debut in Vancouver only a few years ago, it seems that perhaps Le Crocodile may be gunning for a star as much of the Lower Mainland seems to be. The level of service is excellent; friendly and speedy, everything you could ever want. The food is elevated but has more non-french or fusion themes going on than before. The foie gras terrine topped with cherries is the perfect combo of sweet and creamy; the brioche really brings it home. The French onion soup is gooey and rich with depth of flavour however the cheese had a bit too much of a smoky burnt taste as opposed to a charred broil. The dover sole was perfectly de-boned at table side and my mouth was watering while watching. It could've used a touch more seasoning but other than that the sides made it so elegantly French that it brought tears to my eyes. I could have done with a touch less beurre blanc as it was almost on the verge of drowning the beautiful dover sole. The presentation of Le Crocodile's dishes are truly Michelin level. I thoroughly enjoyed the medium-rare veal with what seemed to be home-made pasta and the sauce that raised it to the next level. Desserts were great and although the mini chocolates at the end are no longer in a crocodile shape they do have a decorative gold crocodile made by no other than Thomas Haas which brings in the local vibes. There were tiny things such as the scratched bread plates, the loose tea on the tea pot lid, and a small fibre in the menu which are going to be the very difference between staying at this high level and gaining a star that will need to have more attention to detail. With all that said, I'd still recommend anyone who loves French cuisine to make sure to stop by this spot.

We ordered cocktails just to experiment and were blown away by their creations. I will be back as soon as possible. I can't wait to experience more and I will be bringing friends and family. 5+ Stars

Excellent French fine dining…read more We dined a la carte. We had: - Bread service: definitely recommend. It was surprisingly tasty and interesting as bread goes - Baked pacific oysters: tasty, rich, exactly as you'd expect - Pork jowl confit: absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and the flavours on the plate were really thoughtfully put together - Agnolotti: delicious, satisfying - Hamachi: really good although perhaps not as memorable as some of the other dishes - Lamb saddle: Basically lamb two ways, cooked perfectly Service was attentive and the ambiance was intimate and romantic, somewhat upscale. Prices are also upscale. I had one cocktail which was okay though not standout. Overall, an incredible meal that took me by surprise - I honestly think better than my meal at St Lawrence. Everything was really good to amazing. Will eagerly return to try their tasting menu next time.

This was a return visit on a cold rainy night. The restaurant was busy and we didn't make a reservation but was accommodated. Middle of the week but it was busy. The menu appeared to be the same but there were several specials for the evening. The food came but for some reason was not exciting. The taste was fine but each bite did not evoke the desire to have another. We finished the dinner and left a bit disappointed as our expectation was high.
