I got the El Rey, which is essentially a margarita. Generous on the alcohol, but not complaining! We got a dozen oysters as well as parmesan truffle fries. The oysters were fresh and well-shucked, of great quality! The fries were crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside, and the truffle flavor was prominent. I just left the restaurant and my friend and I have terrible stomach aches. I never leave poor reviews unless necessary (this might be my first one), but this restaurant was terrible. The food was very mediocre (we think we got sick from the food), the staff was rude, and our food took nearly hour to come out. I want to warn people before going here... I'm not sure if they put something in our food but it's very mysterious why my friend and I both feel awful just 30 minutes after leaving the restaurant. Came here for brunch around 12:20pm!! It was pack but I was able to be seated less than 3 min since it was only a party of 2 the wait wasn't that long. Service is outstanding and punctual. As soon as we where seated we where greeted then ask what we would like to drink. Then within 4 min our waiter ask if we was ready to order and he put in our order right away. Very good burger ( a little messy, with the harissa mayo) and excellent fries. I always get fries crispy and when I got them they were hot and well-done. Shared them with my friend, who had the veggie burger and said it was fine. Service was a little slow (Friday lunch) - when we flagged someone down, we definitely got whatever we needed, whether it was ice or extra napkins. But they don't really come over much to ask if everything's okay. It was fairly busy (and I know the servers are handling inside as well as out - we were outdoors), so I get it. I'd definitely come back. One thing that was a little strange to me: why no regular, brewed coffee? I'm up for a latte or espresso once in a while but usually drip coffee is always on the menu too. Super happy this place is around during COVID, as they have the best watermelon margaritas around, but the food is a huge disappointment. I just got the fish and chips and they were utterly INEDIBLE. The breading on the fish was so thick and battery and deep fried I couldn't even cut into it. I've also gotten the five leaves burger and it is not very good either - beets are not meant to go on a burger, someone needs to tell the chef that. We received the food within ten minutes of ordering. That was a plus. However, the food was just okay. The main thing that contributed to two stars was the service. My mom and I went at 8:30 am on a Sunday so there weren't that many people there but no one refilled water, brought sauces, cleaned the table, and the server brought the wrong check. Also, if you have toast and ask for jam, that's an extra dollar. This is my first time dining at Five Leaves. For a few years now I have walked by and there was always a line out the door. Not today!! First impression: kinda cool looking as it has exposed concrete walls with cool lighting. Very cramped restaurant though. Seems as if you're sitting right on top of each other. Hostess walks us to our tiny little table in the back. And I mean tiny. We sit for about 10 minutes or so which was ok because they were packed. Then a young lady comes over and asks us if we would like anything to drink neither of us drink so that was easy. Yet we waited another 10 minutes or so for her to come by to take our order. Menu sounds amazing. I ordered the homemade ricotta cheese with figs and the crispy, spicy brussel sprouts. The ricotta was just ok the best part was the honeycomb on top of it. Then I get to the sprouts. They were amazing! Definitely knocked that one out of the park. My husband ordered a cheeseburger with fries. He liked it, but not too much. Just wasn't a home memorable. Then I ordered a cappuccino and gazed at the dessert menu and while an item looked promising I decided not to get it based on the good ratio of what we had for dinner. 1 out of 3 just wasn't enough to keep going. My sister and I were raised in Greenpoint and have been coming to Five Leaves since it opened. Recently decided to stop putting up with racist bs tho and sadly that means I can no longer come here. Stopped by on a Friday night around 11:30 to grab some truffle fries (a longtime favorite) and were staunchly ignored by the white female hostess. She literally left through the back door to avoid seating us. Needless to say, we left - and won't come back. Take your money elsewhere and spend it where it counts. read more

Rude waitstaff. I came here after reading a lovely review about the restaurant on the infatuation nyc website and thought it would be great to stop in for brunch. I didn't even get the chance to look at the menu. After waiting for a little less than five minutes at the front, A waiter walks over and I ask how long the wait is for 1 person. Please keep in mind, we are standing right next to an EMPTY TABLE. (A previous group just left). He proceeds to look me in the face and say 45 minutes. I have been here several times to eat dinner and twice now for breakfast/brunch so time for a review. I was so excited to go here with my family to celebrate a late mothers day breakfast. We got there at 8:15 am and sat right out front. We have two kids, one 3.5 year old and a 7 month old. We order our food right away. A bowl of fruit, pancakes and the scramble. We sat and watched people come in after us, get seated AND had their food before anything but my husbands coffee was brought out. I finally had to ask for the fruit bowl because my son was starving (and waiting very patiently I might ad). I don't know, but don't you think that if someone comes in with two kids you would do what you could to make it quick?? It just baffles me that people after us were seated and got their entire meal before we even got our fruit bowl. Seriously??? After I asked for the fruit the waitress tells us our food would be right out. I think we waited another 5-10 minutes for our breakfast. The pancakes were OK but must have been sitting there a while and the strawberries that were served in our fruit and on the pancakes were past their sell by date. They were borderline rotting. Finally! Got seated right away because the bar had 2 seats open, so I didn't have to go through the wait! Normally brunch places always have the avocado toast, but it's good to try something new once in a while right? The mushroom with kale toast was good, it was something new. It was creamy and had a great fragrance. I usually hate kale, but the kale with the creamy mushroom sauce matched perfectly. The side of steak was PHENOMENAL, they might as well open a steak house! It was well seasoned and cooked just right. Didn't even need steak sauce with this. The Five Leaves Burger with the truffle fries were good. Although it was good, it was a bit impossible to eat cause the burger was huge. It's awesome that restaurants want to stick as many ingredients as they want in their burgers to make it flavorful, but when it's too big, it makes it harder to eat, which can kill the experience. read more

Ohhhhh man...this place was out of this world. I had the Moroccan Scramble and the Ricotta Pancakes for desert (lol). They cook their eggs in a way that leaves them fluffy and delicious. The pancakes are the right balance between sweet and savory. That are served with bananas and strawberries. At first I looked at the bananas and said, "Who needs this banana!!" After a few bites i thought to myself, I wonder what a bite would be like if I mix it with a banana? It was phenomenal. It added a whole new dimension to the pancake. I finished it off with a double espresso. They served it the correct way. Some places will give you a full cup of espresso and call it a double. They did it right just a little bit more than a mouthful. Service was also excellent. Highly recommend this spot for brunch on Sunday. read more

Five Leaves is a quaint cafe in the heart of Williamsburg. It's tucked away on a corner of McCarren Park, which makes it a go-to spot after a day spent outside in the park. My roommate would always rave about this place. So when my mom was in visiting, I got my opportunity to check this place out. The place, I've heard, is usually packed on the weekends. Luckily, I took off one monday so we managed to sit down right away. My mom and I decided to split the big brekki and the ricotta pancakes. She was disappointed that they didn't serve eggs Benedict, but managed to compromise and kind of make a version of eggs benedict out of the brekki (poached eggs, always a good idea with extra avocado). I ordered the ricotta pancakes, which really was out of this world. SO DELICIOUS. I would go back just to order them again. Everything was amazing. They gave the right amount of food, not too much not too little. All so good...it was just the service that was lacking. They're kind of slow here and all over the place, so don't come starving or be in a rush. Five Leaves is easily one of my favorite brunch spots in NY. It seems like there's usually a long wait on the weekends but luckily my friends and I took off work on Friday and managed to be seated right away. Word has it that Heath Ledger was an investor in this restaurant before it opened. Although he passed away, his family continued to help make this business possible. At first glance, their menu offers some pretty standard brunch items, but the food really speaks for itself here. We got the avocado toast, truffle fries and grilled chicken salad. The avocado toast was simple yet beautiful. There was just the right amount of toppings and spices to make it creamy and flavorful. I also loved that they used a toasted sour dough bread. As for the salad, it was pretty filling. The grilled chicken was thick, juicy and tender. You can taste that it was freshly made. My favorite part was that our truffle fries stayed crispy throughout our whole meal. We also wanted to try the infamous ricotta pancakes but the breakfast menu had just finished by the time we were seated. Overall, this was one of my most enjoyable brunch experiences in NY. The only reason I held back on giving it five stars was the customer service. It bothered me a little that the customer service here was so not on par with the food. But that doesn't seem to stop people from coming here. I'm definitely going to be back. read more

The pancakes are dense and more like cake, which isn't a problem for me! The fresh fruit complimented it so well and don't even get me started on the honeycomb butter! The Moroccan scramble was the perfect savory dish. Very filling with the perfect amount of spice. My only complaint is that the bread was hard to bite/cut so fair warning! We were able to be seated immediately (they don't do reservations as of July 2021) which was a pleasant surprise and had excellent service. The ricotta pancakes were exquisite. Went on a Tuesday morning at 10am with two people and the wait was about 10 minutes. I will say, we were pretty crammed initially until the people next to us left us. They manage to put a lot of people into the restaurant which is great but we were tight. We probably had to wait for about 20 minutes and I was okay because the food tasted fresh. My first bite was off the strawberries and they were fresh; they were gone before I knew it! The weird butter I had on top mixed well with the real maple syrup that was warmed up and I enjoyed that little thing because it put the whole experience over the top in the best of ways. The pancakes were 16$. I came hungry and did not eat for hours afterwards because they were filling. I don't venture out to Brooklyn too often, but a friend who used to live in Brooklyn & now lives abroad was in town and asked to go here. We went around noon on a Monday and it was pretty packed for a weekday. Had no trouble getting a table. I loved the way they set up the bar and the pretty flower table settings they had. We ordered four dishes for three people -- we were all quite full by the end of the meal. The portions were very generous and everything was amazingly delicious. We got: the black kale salad with spicy anchovy dressing, aged gouda & hazelnuts. I loved the dressing, but it might not be for everyone. Not too spicy in my opinion. We also got the housemade ricotta with figs, fresh thyme, honeycomb, & maldon sea salt. I absolutely loved the chunks of honeycomb that came with this dish -- it went really well with the ricotta. We also got the ricotta pancakes with honeycomb butter, banana, strawberries and blueberries. All of the fruit was so fresh and like I mentioned before, the portions were really generous. My FAVORITE dish today was the steamed mussels in a saffron & coconut sauce, chilies, and scallions. Oh my goodness. The dish came with bread squares to soak up the sauce. I'm usually a savory person during anytime of the day- but saw another party order the pancakes and just had to have them! They came in the most glorious form- thick and fluffy, loaded with fruits, and topped with some spiced butter and some maple syrup on the side. So filling, so satisfying, too much for me to finish (although I wish I had a second stomach because I didn't want to stop eating it). Highly recommend the pancakes if you end up here. We came to Five Leaves to start off a full day in Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Meeting up with a friend, we were seated quite promptly upon arriving, despite the busy atmosphere. We were first served our coffee (Americano roast to be exact), and we're slightly disappointed by the bitter taste. The coffee could be better. Coming in for brunch, we ordered two plates of The Big Breakkie, with two sides of Avocado and Bacon. My Big Breakkie was ordered with 2 eggs scrambled, and the they did a terrific job keeping the eggs fluffy and yellow (our friend got 2 eggs poached). The Big Breakkie also comes with these two hash browns which are unusually prepared with seasoning, but still delicious. One of us ordered the Moroccan Scramble, which has a lot of flavor. On the side for the whole table, we ordered Ricotta Pancakes, which turned out to be a real standout. The pancakes were real thick, extra sweetness came from the butter mixed with sugar. The pancakes also proved very filling, so it was necessary for all of us to share them. Service is great and the location has that distinct Greenpoint charm, I definitely recommend this place to anyone exploring this part of Brooklyn. read more
