I can't believe they opened a Five Guys near me and I didn't notice for 6 months. Believe me, I plan on making up for that mistake. What to say about Five Guys that hasn't already been said in this large collection of reviews? I'm not a fast food junkie - I'm generally the type that prefers a good, solidly made burger as opposed to a quick fix. After living in Arizona for a short while, and experiencing the greatness that was In-n-Out, I'm glad to say that Five Guys brings a similar feel, and arguably better quality, to the table. Most people that have come here already know the story of the chain, starting in the D.C. area and spreading along the Eastern Seaboard. Working down the street from this location, I've consumed their fare on numerous occasions and short of some stomach woes after packing down way too much, I've been very pleasantly surprised. As others have said, the regular burgers are actually double-patties, which can be daunting for average Burger eaters. But both the burgers and fries on the menu are outstanding. Free toppings - so load 'em up, and in short time you'll receive a burger that doesn't taste like a fast food joke. Five Guys does the burger exceptionally well, to the point where (as stated), they may have dethroned In-n-Out as my "Best 'Fast Food' Burger" ever. As for the other menu options - The Hot Dogs are decent, but nothing that will truly impress, and whether or not to go regular or cajun with the fries? That's a personal choice. Many here have said the fries are low on the salt, and that's true. But they've both a natural flavor and appearance that is satisfying, and along with the quality of the burger, pulls you out of the stigma of the typical fast food joint. Long and short of it, Five Guys is a very solid addition to the hum-drum fast food joints on Route 1. That said, when your local burger competition is Burger King and McDonalds, it's no contest. From Ted's Steamed Cheese in Meriden CT, to Nation's in Oakland, CA, Five Guys is up there with the best of them. This location of Five Guys is top notch and the regular go-to. I live in Boston, and made the drive out to Dedham JUST for these burgers. So so so good. I love the free peanuts, in shell, as they should be. At this 5 Guys location, nobody was throwing them on the floor, but that's fine. I love that you can choose any toppings on your burger for free- so I get an amazing mushroom, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, ketchup creation for under $5. My one burger complaint is that the bun gets kind of soggy- maybe because I overload mine with the free grilled veggie options, but still. The fries here are great too- and you get a ton so split them for the table, and the table next to you! read more

I probably experienced the joys of Five Guys a bit earlier than most Bostonians. I moved to the Washington D.C. area in 2004, which is when almost all of the Five Guys locations were still in the D.C. area, and it was basically still a small local chain. There was a Five Guys right down the road from me, and I believe it was the second restaurant that the company had established. Discovering FG back then was a pretty unique and exciting experience. It was definitely unlike any other fast food burgers and fries joint I'd ever been to back home in Boston. In early 2006, I moved back to Boston, and it seemed like FG was to become a thing of the past for me. However, last summer I found out that they had opened up a location at the Dedham mall, and so I set out to find out how to get there on the T, and was able to have a somewhat nostalgic experience. I revisited this location earlier today, and was pleased once again. It's a bit out of my way, but it's always worth the trip. If you didn't already know, FG features well done, yet juicy all beef burgers, with a multitude of toppings, all of which are free. The standard size is two patties, and the Jr. size is one patty. You can add cheese, or cheese and bacon for a bit more. The french fries are cooked in peanut oil, and are vegetarian/vegan. You can get them regular or large sized. The regular size is quite large, and the large is enormous. You can also get the fries regular or Cajun style. I've had both, and both are good, but I think I prefer regular. Salty shell peanuts are also available (although I remember them being non salted back at the old D.C. area location). While eating FG in Dedham is not quite as unique and atmospheric as eating at one of the first locations in the D.C. area, and it might have slightly lost a little "something" in the transition to national chain, it's definitely still worth experiencing whether you're already familiar with FG like me, or you're trying it out for the first time. read more

My, my my! Where do I begin? The service is good overall. I have been here numerous times sometimes the services is very friendly, sometimes meh. By service I mean the person at that front taking your order. Also, your burgers get done very fast. The longest I've had to wait ever is ten minutes (and they were very busy) The burgers are awesome! It is very fresh and juicy and plump. When you ask for toppings (which are all free) the cooks really fill it. I usually get 3 or 4 toppings and my burger is distinguishable from my boyfriend's burger coz mine is like 4 inches tall (not really but you know) and like ten pounds heavier (yet another exaggeration). I can't really speak for the hot dogs. Coz, seriously, who goes to Five Guys for hot dogs? Get it right! :P The price is right too. Not too chep and not too expensive. If your looking for fast food, quality (according to the sign they have post the beef they use is no filler and never frozen), affordability, this is your place! Five Guys = Classic American Fast Food (done right), at a price. This is your standard American fare, burgers with fries and a drink. You can also order hot dogs, but that's about it. This is the kind of food that foreigners think fat Americans eat all day, but it sure is delicious and filling! By fast food, I mean a meal that's prepared in several minutes. While you're eating, you can stare at the bags of potatoes that are on display. The tiles on the wall are mostly white with red checkers. It brightens the room but it feels like the walls that a bathroom would have. The walls also have hangings of newspaper articles and posters related to the restaurant. THE FOOD The good thing about this place is that the food is newly prepared, it tastes fresher than what you'd get at a MACdonalds. There are unlimited drink refills that you can get yourself. They have Vault soda, which not many places serve. You can help yourself to peanuts while you're waiting for your order, nice touch! They can be salty though. You can order additional "toppings" for your burger at no extra charge. You get a lot of fries, a few of mine were still raw in the center. If you're hungry, this place will fill you up. THE SERVICE The service was friendly, when I got my order, the guy smiled and said "enjoy". That's not something you'd normally get, even at pricier establishments. Another nice touch, the employees appear to be happy or at least content on working there. CONCLUSION Yeah, the restaurant has a weird name, and charging $10 bucks for burger and fries at a fast food place is expensive. The taste is not special, it's like what you'd get if you had a 4th of July BBQ. I love this Restuarant chain dearly. Me and a friend went down to Baltimore one weekend on a trip and stumbled upon a Five Guys by mistake. It rocked our world. The fries, the burgers, the people working there, the peanuts, ...everything was kick ass. I practically flipped out when I learned they were building some in Massachusetts. Then when we stumbled upon this one in Dedham (also by accident) I literally screamed and made my friend pull over. Unfortunately it was closed that night, but since then we have made frequent returns. I love Five Guys. But, this one in Dedham has kinda drifted from perfection a couple times. Anyone who has been to the West Coast and tried In N Out can get a similar vibe when stepping into this place. The decor and even the menu seem like they were hashed out on the same notepad. Anyways, tried the burger since its supposed to be awesome. Ordered it with "everything" and an order of fries. The burger was juicy, but should have ordered it with jalapenos to give it some flavor. The fries were a bit oily, and the taste was okay. Don't even come close to In N Out in terms of taste, not even Burger King. I am glad that it was fresh. This place is a small hole in the wall tucked into the Dedham Mall Shopping Center. It doesn't look like much on the outside and the inside decor is like a diner. IT appears from all the articles on the walls this is a chain and gets rave reviews. It is almost like fast food but the burgers are cooked to order. There area a few to choose from but you can get loads of toppings on them. Let me tell you, the burgers here are delicious! They are double stacked and are fresh and juicy! Five guys is so freaking good. I first had them in Philly, and when I found out there was a place even remotely close to Boston I WAS GOING. The burgers..which are really double burgers are DELISH. All toppings free. Prepared very quickly. Cajun fries also delicious, and a small is most certainly the size of most places' large ! Made to order burgers( free formed) and greasy fries. They stuff a big cup with the fries and then throw a bunch more in your bag. They have a pretty decent hot dog too, split and grilled, toasted bun. Malted vinegar on the tables gets my attention. White tile atmosphere reminds me a little of The Varsity in Atlanta. If the yard stick on great burgers is the old Tim's Tavern formally on Columbus near Dartmouth then the five guys burger has a foot or more to grow. It's kind've a Johnny Rockets that doesn't make you feel poisoned. B+ on the burger, B on the fries, A- on the service and set up. I kept hearing how awesome these burgers taste and wanted to try them for myself. We stopped by this location after several hours of walking around shopping at Wrentham so I definitely had worked up an appetite. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, raw onion, pickles, mayo, and ketchup with regular Cajun fries to share. I was surprised at the total for two burgers, one order of fries, and two drinks - $2 for fountain soda? Really? The person calling out the numbers was loud but pretty incoherent so we kept guessing if it was us or not. That got kind of awkward when Husby went up a few times but finally...success! The burger was pretty big and I immediately regretted my decision to not get the smaller size. They really piled the lettuce on and I could barely taste the beef, which was not juicy and definitely overcooked. My bun was also cold and quite dense - as in they did not heat it on the flat top. I am certain I saw them putting hot dog and hamburger buns on when I was in line to pay so why was mine cold? What I did like were the fries. Delightfully spicy, mealy, crisp (could have been a bit crisper though), and totally freshly made. Like other Yelpers stated, a large order would have been way too much. I also liked the fresh toppings on my burger. This place is definitely better than any fast food chain but I expected juicy deliciousness like everyone promised. Is it nostalgia or the idea of pure americanism that gives this place it's appeal? I have to admit even though I found my burger rather mediocre, and expensive at that, I'm still oddly drawn to this place every time I make a run to stop and shop next door. The menu for burgers is very bare bones, but the toppings list is extensive, albeit not creative. I had lunch already so I just ordered a mini cheese burger with jalapenos, hot sauce and tomatoes. The service is slow, but it's cool that you can see exactly what they're doing in the back...unless you ordered a hot dog, then it's not so cool. They use a flat top grill that is covered in something like half an inch of meat drippings. For some reason, the meat drippings pool a little more in the back, which is exactly where they fry up the hot dogs. Beef fat fried hot dogs...I think I'll avoid that one. The mini burger was indeed small, but not cheap, and the hotsauce wasn't near hot enough. The burger is cooked well done, which is fine by me because ground meat basically distributes the original surface of the meat where all the bacteria are, so if you don't cook the center, well you better eat a freakton of yogurt and pray. The patty itself was the odd combination of juicy and dry that most burgers are, but I will say this: The fries looked pretty good relatively speaking. Fries are one of my least favorite foods in the world, and I've never been happy ordering them, anywhere, so I decided not to. They have peanuts everywhere, and I'm not sure if they sell them or if they're free. That's pretty cool. I would say for something comparable in atmosphere but better in value and taste, Go to Eagle's Deli. They cook it to order for all the daredevils out there who like medium rare, but they use a grated grill so the burgers aren't deep fried in their own fat. read more

Burgers are pretty good! Only I don't like is the fact that the fries are cooked in peanut oil. The difference in taste is very noticeable and I'm not too fond of peanut oil. I like burgers. It's safe to say that I probably order burgers at least 50% of the time when I eat out. Through all of my experiences (including a trip to In N Out), this is the best burger that I've ever had. The menu is pretty simple, as they offer a single or double burger (don't be chicken and get the single). You get to choose from thousands of toppings, or maybe it was closer to 20. The options are all on the board, so you can simply read out your choices. There's even an "all-the-way" option that makes the ordering easier. Be careful though, as it's very easy to overload your burger...just be sure to have napkins handy. Also, while you wait for them to tell you your order is ready to be picked up, they offer an unlimited amount of peanuts for you to snack on. If only this place was in Boston...I'd be there everyday and my cholesterol would probably be through the roof! read more

I wonder what all the rave is about 5 Guys burgers. Friend of mine finally gets me to the one in dedham. Surprisingly i was impressed, the burger is close to my favorite, Eagle Deli burger. Not quite as good but close. The burger was double patty, cheese, bacon and grilled onions, tasty tasty. I just wish their burger was as juicy as Eagles. Never would I eat something so greasy for lunch, but today was an exception. During my work break I stumbled upon Five Guys Burgers and Fries and was thrilled because I've heard so much about this Virginia based food chain. With a simple menu, it was easy for me to pick out the "Little Cheeseburger" (a single patty vs the double decker) with lettuce, tomato and freshly cut jalapeno peppers ($4.09.) Their meat is fresh, never frozen and even better, the toppings are free! The bun was lightly toasted, the patty was average yet juicy and the cheese was just what you expect- sliced, yellow and gooey good. Their fries ($2.69) were cut on the thicker side and perfectly fried in 100% peanut oil. Would I come back here? Yes, but only if my absolute favorite burger joint, UBURGER, isn't an option. read more

OK, so I was in the mood for your basic hamburger and decided to try Five Guys because it was near Dedham Mall where I was shopping. First of all this place was loud with music blasting and literally throngs of people eating. I would characterize what I found there to be the absolute best "low class" dining experience of my life! Forget the noise and the crowds. This is a GREAT place to eat. The regular burger is really a double burger with two juicy, perfectly cooked patties on a great bun with your choice of literally any toppings you can imagine. As incredibly good as that burger was though, the french fries were even better. I loaded them with ketchup and ate my way through the best meal of the year!. Make sure you grab a lot of napkins because there is some cleanup needed after you have finished relishing every bite. It is literally so good that you will feel no guilt for the calories! YUM! This is easily one of the best burgers in town and at a very reasonable price. They keep it simple: burgers, fries and thats about it. Do your waistline a favor and get the 1 patty burger. Today was a special day, a day that was like most others until lunchtime came around and things took a turn for the better, not for the worse but for the better. While driving down route one, I convinced a friend to stop by the phenomenon that is Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Lucky for us there was no line. We placed our order and started hunting. Hunting for what you might be thinking. While we were able to place our order within seconds of walking in the door, finding a table and chairs to dine at would prove to be a much greater challenge. So we started our hunt, scanning the room, looking for anyone packing up. After the longest 5 minutes of my life, four tables became available just as they were calling out our numbers. We each got a bacon cheeseburger. For the 5 guys rookie, all burgers are double patties unless specified otherwise. You're asked what accompaniments you'd like on your burger. Hmm sautéed onions. The orders of fries are massive and you and friend can easily split a small. After devouring our burgers we were back to work, feeling like we just consumed 2 patties sent from heaven. For those of you from the east coast and have had the pleasure of savoring a double double animal style (In'N'Out) and have longed for a similar establishment on the RIGHT COAST, then look no further my burger loving buddies.
