I haven't set foot in Arboretum Pizza Grill for over a year now, and after my last visit, I can't say I'm eager to return. The experience was downright unpleasant, largely due to the rude attitude of the woman and her husband who run the place. From the moment I walked in, communication was difficult and disrespectful. The woman, in particular, had a confrontational tone, which made it impossible to interact in a polite manner. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the service that left a bad impression. The food didn't live up to expectations either. The sandwich I ordered was overpriced and lacked filling--barely any ingredients, leaving it underwhelming and unsatisfying. I also ordered a pizza, but when the bill came, it was more expensive than the price listed online. With the poor service, bad food quality, and lack of transparency in pricing, I made the decision to boycott this place for good. There are plenty of other options in the area that offer better food and far more courteous service. Their Greek-style pizza feels like it's in the bar pie spectrum: on the thinner side but almost buttery. Their chicken gyro pizza was OK but not my fav (had some wet toppings that didn't work for me), but their chicken parm pizza had me reaching for seconds. Their grilled chicken sub was also decent- the bread was blah, but the filling was plentiful and flavorful. And their potato skins weren't anything to write home about, but hit the spot. read more

I was craving a cheese burger for days now. Ordering it from here was a big mistake. I expected the burger not perfect (cause obviously this is not a burger place) but not terrible either. I can barley see the lettuce. Tomatoes and onions were cut to small pieces like if they were picked out of a plate of salad, moist and wet. The meat (the most important part) was so cheap. Not only that!. The meat was thin, flat and super dry. All I tasted was BURNT! I wanted to scream from disappointment. Waste of TIME, waste of excitement and waste of money. They have a smacking Hamburger basket, Alfredo, and Oreo moose cake and if I was given a last meal, I'd definitely beg to eat here before I kicked the bucket. The chicken at this place is fantastic, particularly the kabob wrap and any grilled chicken they put on their pizza. This has been our go-to pizza joint for a couple of years now and don't quite understand the bad reviews, though I haven't ordered much outside of pizza and wraps. Disclaimer: This is a review based solely on their customer service and delivery options. I am a regular Foodler junkie, I use it several times a week for their delivery and I decided to try Seamless since they had this restaurant. After verifying my exact address and ordering food for my roommate and I, I was looking forward to the different food options they had. Everything was seamless, they charged my credit card for the order, and I was waiting for my food. About 5-10 minutes later I get a phone call from the restaurant saying they cannot deliver to my address. When I mentioned that according to their delivery partner, it showed there was no problem delivering to my address. You can imagine my reaction, especially when you were hungry and looking forward to your food. I was willing to pay a little extra for the delivery, and it was triple their delivery minimum but no they were not looking to offer a solution to remedy the problem. Whatever, maybe they have good food who knows but unfortunately I was disappointed by this experience and will I ever try it again or suggest it? Not at all. There's businesses that understand how to deliver great customer service and generate positive word of mouth even when it's not in their capacity to render their product or service, and then there's others that just go by the minimum required customer service. I've been wanting to try this place for years, and was incredibly disappointed. The woman at the counter (the owner's kid?) seemed like she was completely out to lunch (no pun intended). Every time I asked her a question she gave me a blank look. It was bizarre. When I asked for ice for my iced tea, they said they didn't have any. I have a wheat allergy so I couldn't eat a pizza or a sandwich, so I finally ordered an antipasto salad. What I got was horrible and indigestion-producing: an iceberg lettuce salad with rolls of baloney, which I had to unravel to get to the few shreds of cheese and salami inside. The peperoncini who so tough I couldn't even eat them. I never thought I'd say these words, but I actually prefer Subway's Italian chopped salad (their equivalent). I won't go there ever again. I just can't anymore. I've ordered from here a bunch of times and it just gets worse every time. Past 3 orders, something has been replaced by a thing we didn't order. When I called one time because of a huge price difference between what I ordered (more expensive) and what I got, they refused to refund me the difference. I had to call the online company, who assured me that the restaurant could have and should have handled it. This time, wrong food, and the food we got was really overcooked. This will probably be obvious in a couple days when Yelp changes the info at the top of the page, but I thought that I should point out that they've changed their name from Blowfish to Arboreteum Grill. Same owners, same quality, same (almost) menu. The 'almost' part is that in addition to all the great seafood, they are now offering pizza and calzones (as well as the burgers, wraps, etc they had previously). And instead of broiled seafood platters, they are now doing baked platters - had to make room for the pizza ovens (wife had the baked haddock last night and gives it two thumbs up). As of late Jan 2011, new printed menus are on in the works. In the meantime, old menus/prices are still in effect (plus you can get pizza et al if you ask). Oh, and they're the nicest group of folks you could hope to meet. This place is a gem for Greek takeout (especially seafood) or eat-in super-casual. ***** Update fall of 2013: Much as I hate to do it, I've had to revisit this review and down-rate them (from my original 5-star). I was hoping that the new owners would eventually get their act together but it's been a year and they still seem unfocused and careless. This is a welcome addition to Roslindale diniing. Nice , new, clean design, shiny and spotless. The people running it are so nice and friendly and the seafood was out of this world ! The fried shrimps on my combo platter were so big, I thought they were a piece of fish. The fresh tasty homemade slaw was a delight and while I usaully eschew tartar sauce, I was eating this one with a spoon. Portions are almost big enough to share, but you won't want to. Prices are reasonable and the service was quick. I can't wait to go back to try the other entrees. I just want to edit/add that they make the most delicious fried dhicken wings ! Crispy spicy home style wings, not ypur frozen wing dings but the real deal amazing. Also really good is the gyro sandwich, soooo tasty and the subs are huge. The interior of Blowfish is welcoming with its large windows, new floors, and young smiling faces to greet you. I get a happy feeling as I walk through the door because Blowfish cares about how they look. However, if its a choice between a sketchy restaurant with awesome food and a clean restaurant with generic "Chili/TGIF/Applebee" type food, I'll choose the former any day. I just wish I could have a happy medium. The positives are that Blowfish is real cheap and the staff are so friendly. I would order the souvlaki or gyro on pita. Very filling for $5. The big negative is the fact that the restaurant tries to pass itself off as a seafood restaurant when the seafood tastes like something I could buy frozen and hurl into the fryer. Ive walked past here every day after work but it was on the wrong side of washington st so i had never gone. From both the outside and the inside it looks fantastic and smells even better. I finally found a break in traffic on a day i wasnt listening to an engrossing podcast and made the trek across. The owners and workers were super friendly. I liked the seafood, it seemed like standard cheap take out fare but prepared much better. You know that weird gross grease flavor you usually get from cheap seafood? This place didnt have it. The chicken also had the appearance of blandness, but it was again it surpassed the visual expectation. NOTE!! This is an interesting place because while it is a seafood restaurant I think the majority what they sell is from the rest of the menu. Personally I usually get the broiled haddock which is a large piece of fish with rice salad and bread. Good portion, well cooked, reasonably priced. My wife almost always gets the gyros. Seems like an odd choice for a seafood place but the owners are Greek so they have some greek food items. They also have chicken wings, steak tips and burgers which is what my son prefers. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything is made to order and fresh. The only thing I didn't like was the buffalo sauce on the chicken wings that my son gets, I think it is too tangy and leaves an after taste that I don't enjoy. read more

I went here yesterday. I thought it was very meh-- forgettable. That's not to say it was bad nor was it good very middle of the road for me. I wanted to try it out since I pass by this place on a regular basis heading over to my client's house. The reason I haven't been here before is because of the sketchy people that hang around outside next door. I think next door is a Spanish barber shop. The service was fast and friendly. The prices are reasonable. The decor is clean and welcoming. The food was alright. I had a gyro it was a bit dry. It wasn't the worst I've ever had and it wasn't the best I've ever had. I do not think I will be a regular at this establishment. I will certainly not go out of my way to come here. But if I am in the area and I am starving then yeah, I will come here again but I won't be jumping for a joy over it as the majority of the people that have reviewed this place. read more

This has to be one of my favorite places in the Rosindale area and I always visit when I am there. I usually eat vegetarian meals and their grilled veggie calzone is absolutely delicious. The cheese pull, grilled veggies, the dough itself is perfection. For non-vegetarian options the buffalo chicken wrap is always a go-to. Really great option, I will be a regular. Roslindale has no shortage of great restaurants - but not much in the way of quick/cheap takeout or delivery. There's Checkmate for pizza/subs and now I've found Blowfish for seafood, burgers/sandwiches, etc. I had the buffalo finger plate which included a heaping portion of lightly-fried chicken doused in buffalo sauce, excellent fresh coleslaw and excellent fries...all for under $9. My girlfriend had a chicken caesar wrap which was huge, included delicious marinated grilled chicken (i tried some) and was under $6. Need to try the seafood next time, but that looks great too. More of a takeout place, but it's super clean, nicely decorated and features an HD flatscreen on the wall if you want to eat there. I live in Jamaica Plain and this is my favorite place to order delivery from. It's pretty fast, the food is decent and it's relatively affordable. I usually get the chicken parm sub or the pasta with broccoli. I really like both. I've also had the burger and buffalo fries before. The buffalo fries were delicious. Delivery to my house usually takes around 45 minutes and is pretty accurate with what they tell you when you order. read more

Ordered from this place today because I heard there pizza was not bad. They completely messed up the entire. Charged me $30 for the wrong pizza and a saggy salad. When we called to let them know they gave us the wrong pizza I got major attitude on the phone and they refused to send the right pizza. I have tried many pizza places in boston, ny, mia, internationally and this is hands down the worst service and the worst pizza and salad I have ever eaten..... Decided to check the place out since it changed its name from Blowfish. As I walked in I noticed that it still had all the Blowfish logos -- on the windows, on the wall, but the new menu said Arboretum Grill. Considered the chicken cutlet sub and asked the cook whether it was reconstituted chicken patty or real chicken. He assured me it was real, fresh chicken tenders that they dip in their own batter. The "small" sub was about 8" on a fresh, crusty sub roll. The chicken cutlet tasted great and the tomato and shredded lettuce was equally fresh. I also had a small order of french fries which was a pretty large portion. The only strange thing was a pair of guys who seemed to be hanging out there in the otherwise empty restaurant. Nothing surprising except that one of them was wearing dark sunglasses -- and this is inside on a glooming Saturday. Both guys seemed to be playing games on the cellphones, but this doesn't seem to be the kind of place where you just hang out.. Anyway, I finish my meal -- it is excellent -- and absent-mindedly take the tray and dump it into the trash can. That's when I heard the metal-clanking noise and realized the food came on pewter plates, not disposable dishes. I apologized to the owner about my blunder, but the sunglassed dude put a big smile on his face, said it happens all the time and that he'd take care of it. Turns out the scary guy is a nice, friendly guy and I felt foolish being intimidated by the mysterious sunglasses and rough look. I assume he's either an employee or related the the couple doing the cooking. I'm definitely going to return to try some of the other offerings. Their fish selections are very tempting. I think I've found a good place for lunch, dinner and takeout. When you go there, simply ignore anyone wearing sunglasses on a rainy day -- he's part of the decor. read more
