The food here is top notch. Make reservations ahead of time as they do get busy. This establishment doesn't have much seating but the servers have everything down to get you in and out as quick as possible while enjoying your time. Our server was the perfect match for our date, personal and patient. Everything was amazing and would definitely come back. The Key Lime pie is the best part, not too tart or sweet. Enough for at least 2 people.
The food, incredible! Uni available on weekends, it was incredible. Terrific oyster selection, also had raw scallops available, all were delicious. The fish sandwich was delicious with a homemade gribiche (a tartar sauce upgrade). The rice dish was otherworldly, creamy like a risotto with crab, shrimp, etc. the desserts were delicious, too. It's a small friendly venue with outdoor seating, a good bar selection and super friendly service. Will go again when back in Manhattan Beach.
We got a ton of stuff here and everything was fabulous. Started with some oysters, a salad, and bread rolls. The rolls were warm and buttery. The oysters were fresh but quite small for the price (we wanted them to be small though). For entrees, I had the most amazing fish sandwich and my cousin and aunt split the crab pasta and the rice dish. The crab pasta had a wonderful meaty flavor that almost reminded us of bolognese. I was sad that I was almost too full to eat more of it. The fries with the fish sandwich were thin and crispy and salty- my favorite type of fry. The sandwich itself was juicy and flavorful, and it had the most amazing sauce on it. We were sadly too full for dessert but I'm sure it would've been great. We were helped by a waitress who gave us some food recommendations and was attentive. Cute location and interior by the water in MB.
Love love loved my experience here. It's a delicious oyster spot right by the water that has seasonal and rotational oysters. We got 3 different types of oysters, but our favorite was the Love Shuck. They had live Uni that day, which was ok... I'm spoiled from having gone to school at UCSB and having fresh Uni pretty much on deck. We got Crab Cakes, Koshihikari Rice (which is similar to a risotto), and the Grilled Hamachi Collar which was a seasonal special and so good... The food was amazing, and the price was appropriate for what we ordered (we had 3 people with all the food and drinks and it was around $330 give or take). I thought the staff were super attentive and friendly, the location was superb, and the food was amazing.
Food & service 10/10 !! I love to get the scallops . Iv never had anything like that before, the flavor is amazingly balanced and fresh . Mussels are freshest + plumpest mussels Iv ever had with a beautiful warm bread that comes in the side . They have a full bar so if you're wanting wine or a nice tequila etc they have it all. Love to go walking nearby amazing location in beautiful manhattan.
Delicious! I came here with a friend and we shared the Peruvian scallops to start. The scallops were FIRE. Just imagine the sweetest, freshest scallops, perfectly marinated in a tart and briny way. I definitely could've had a dozen of these! For my entrée I got the Koshihikari rice with uni and egg. I would say it is pretty good, definitely heartier than a porridge. It had a nice flavor of seafood but I think the addition of something bright or crunchy would've been nice to break up the heaviness of the dish. The salinity from the Uni was lovely though. Overall, this place is really cute and the service was on point. I would definitely return again to try other things on the menu!
I went back for my third visit in as many years and once again I was blown away. The restaurant is tiny so we had a counter seat that was right by the kitchen and the bathroom, but it was fine. We were just happy we got in. We had a few fresh oysters and great drinks before our entrees. My husband had the seared scallops which were perfectly made and plated. I ordered the Koshihikari Rice and loved it as much as I did 3 years ago when I had it. Seriously, I don't know that I will ever not order this dish. It's got a unique flavor to it I have never had anywhere else. We will definitely be back!
Can't believe it took me so long to actually try Fishing with Dynamite. The restaurant is pretty small so weekend reservations can go quickly. The service is excellent and the seafood is super fresh. It's a bit on the pricy side but worth it for a great meal. Located in the heart of downtown Manhattan beach. Street parking is easy to find. Would highly recommend for a date night.
If you want exceptionally fresh seafood, prepared in delicious and innovative ways, Fishing With Dynamite is the place to go! We loved the oysters, the pan seared Maine scallops, the misoyaki black cod, the wild Spanish octopus, and more. The ambiance is lively, fun and busy. I wish this restaurant was in the Bay Area so I could enjoy their food more often, but I can't wait to visit Fishing With Dynamite next time I am in LA. Fun cocktails, too!
Great vibe, incredible wine (the orange wine was BOMB), delicious food, and top-tier service. I made a reservation weeks in advance without realizing how small and popular this place has just a handful of indoor seats and a few tables outside. Every bite was incredible. We ordered the hamachi and I definitely should've asked for a side of chips to scoop up the extra avocado and sauce left on the plate. Everything was fantastic and perfect for sharing.
I call this a slice of New England in the South Bay. I should focus on the slice in the sense that the place isn't large so be sure to make a reservation. It's popular. Just a heads up. The interior has a cool nautical vibe that makes you feel like you're living that sailboat life. The oysters were perfection along with the delicious lobster rolls. I'd do it no other way.
Love this place, especially for brunch! The seafood is always super fresh and delicious. Everything tastes clean and high quality every single time. Our go-tos: the uni toast (literally one of my favorite foods ever), their always-perfect oysters, the koshihikari rice, Peruvian scallops, New England clam chowdah, and white shrimp ceviche. You honestly can't miss with any of the menu items here. And their cocktails are great too! The space is really cute but on the smaller side. They do have a few outdoor tables though, which is great if you want fresh air or have your dog with you. Service is quick and friendly. Parking is a bit of a hassle; we usually park in the structure a few blocks away and walk down the hill to get here. Easily one of the best seafood spots in the South Bay!!!

Super fresh. Must try if u like oysters Caesar's salad. Might be the best one I have ever had. Add the grill shrimp. Char is perfect. This salad is so good. I will crave this for sure !! Located just steps away from Manhattan Beach, FWD offers a wide array of fresh seafood. The wine list is simple but offers everything you would want to pair with these beautifully plated dishes. The octopus was delicious! We ordered an assortment of raw seafood, including the sea urchin, tuna tartare and scallops, served with toast points. We decided to try the key lime pie and it was fantastic. Seating is limited so make sure you reserve the spot you desire- indoor or outdoor. We were seated outdoors, as we did not have a reservation, and were quite chilly. One improvement would be offering blankets on cold nights. Otherwise, FWD is everything I would want in a beachside restaurant. read more
4.5 stars Standouts for me were the Peruvian scallops (melts in your mouth with such a fresh zesty citrus marinade), crab cake (meat to breading ratio was excellent), and New England clam chowder (rich, warm, perfectly balanced by the crispy house made oyster crackers). The famous Koshihikari rice was a little too rich for my personal preference. The restaurant has limited seating and we ended up sitting at the bar - where we were served by the friendly bartender. In the future, I might come for some drinks and just hone in on the Peruvian scallops! The one thing that dampened our experience was the COLD - the door to the restaurant was open the entire night and the cold wind continuously blew in, forcing us to even change seats, I was forced to wrap myself in my beach towel. I can't even imagine having dinner in their "outside seating", which are a few lone tables on the side of the road. read more

I come to these places always for the seafood tower always! Lol I'm never in this area but this place has been bookmarked years ago. I'm so happy I finally get to try it. My friends rave about this place and I must say they are ruby. Everything is delicious and so fresh! The Chilled Soba Noodle Salad with bluefin tuna dish we ordered omg wow! Out of this world! Fresh Oysters are always on my must order list everytime and I was very pleased. read more
We were just walking by and decided to stop and have a quick something because it's been on my list forever. They only had bar seating which was fine. It's a small restaurant but very cute. Our bartender/server, Sal was great. Very helpful. We got: half dozen oysters- good. Fresh. Not sure I know how to rate oysters. But the Half dozen of Peruvian scallops. Just wow. The grapefruit added to it was lovely. My husband who doesn't like grapefruit didn't mind it all. Crab cake- it's 1 large cake.....oh so delicious. Finally we got the tuna tartar. Presentation was lovely. This was I think my favorite dish. Look forward to coming back and trying out the larger entrees. read more

We've totally been sleeping on FWD! Having enjoyed our experience at Manhattan Beach Post many times, we always assumed the more casual, seafood focused sister restaurant next door would be a less incredible experience- boy were we wrong! We ordered the Hamachi Crudo, the Crab Cake, the Seared Diver Scallops and the Koshihikari Rice plus a dozen oysters (2 of each type on the menu that night). We also got the Key Lime and the Bread Pudding for dessert. Everything we ordered was stand out, and we were surprised to note that our least favorite dish was the Oysters. Our favorites were the Seared Diver Scallops with corn puree and the Hamachi Crudo. The sauces on both were master class - so much so that my husband pretty much licked the bowl. Our service was also top notch. We sat at the bar and were attended to by the bartender Elijah. He was so personal and knowledgeable- his drinks were also top notch. Even though the restaurant was slammed when we first arrived and the kitchen was slightly behind, he made sure we were considered and taken care of. He went above and beyond to make our evening memorable and was incredibly friendly and personable. From the food to the staff - everything about FWD was outstanding. 10/10 recommend. Next time we get an evening out without the kids again we will be back! read more
If you love delicious seafood this place is for you. Everything we ordered was amazing. The place is fairly small so make sure you make a resy. Went here for my anniversary dinner. Our staters was the hamachi, so fresh and full of flavor, loved it. The Peruvian scallops were so good and flavorful, I probably could have ate 12 all by myself. The clam chowder is the best I've ever had!! It's a must! The dinner rolls were so good, if you like bread get these. For entrees we did the sea bass with was amazing and the rice. The rice was very fishy, I didn't mind it but my husband didn't like it much. I loved this place and would definitely be back! read more

We discovered Fishing with Dynamite because it's one of the few restaurants close on westside that participates on InKind! This place is definitely is a local favorite because it was packed even on a weekday night! We opted to sit outside (despite needing puffer jackets due to the wind and cold) because our dog joined us. The waitress was super sweet and immediately got our dog water and asked us if it was okay if he got a few treats, to which Loki scarfed down in seconds. Moving onto the food: Koshihikari Rice (4/5): The flavors tasted great - it was almost like a risotto, which we didn't anticipate going into it. I would say the biggest let down was that though uni is listed as components for this dish, I didn't actually see or taste any uni - maybe it's blended into the sauce? Crab Cake (4/5): Tasted great, but I felt like the portion was on the smaller side for a 24 dollar appetizer. Comes with a side of salad, which was alright. I know that lump crab isn't cheap and it's an appetizer, but I really wish there was a bit more of it. Chilean Sea Bass (5/5): Amazing! I loved this dish so much, even though I was initially a little bit apprehensive about the orza (it initially reminded me of refried beans). The fish is buttery and cooked to perfection, the orza is full of flavor without overwhelming the taste of the fish. Everything in this dish works so well together - definitely a must order here. This dish is something that I think the restaurant can proudly call a signature dish - it's something that I really haven't seen done elsewhere and it's executed perfectly. Key Lime Pie (5/5): I've lived in South Florida for 6 years and have been to the Keys multiple times - this Key Lime Pie is the real deal. Perfectly tangy with the cream and merange to balance it out.. and if you want some extra lime punch, there's extra limes on the plate. The presentation and portion size was also perfect, another must order. Overall, the price point is pretty high (not surprising being a high quality seafood restaurant) - but participating with InKind definitely helps with how frequently InKind has discounts and promotions. We loved the food and the service and definitely plan to come back soon! read more
We had a late afternoon reservation on a Saturday, and though we arrived early, we still had to wait a while after we were seated to order. Our server was knowledgeable about the allergens in each dish and assured me that the tostada and tortilla chips were gluten free because they are made in a different fryer, so there would be no cross-contamination. The only gluten-free entree option was the grilled fish and grilled shrimp tacos. We got the medium seafood tower and really enjoyed the oysters, mussels, shrimp, and Alaskan crab legs. The dipping sauces were very good, but we were hoping for a little something more adventurous like a granita for the oysters. The Mexican White Shrimp Ceviche was gluten free, but very disappointing in flavor. I could barely taste the citrus, and the serrano pepper tasted more like a lab grown jalapeño. Service was very slow. We had to wait and try to catch our server's attention several times because she didn't come around to check on us often. Since our food was coming as it was prepared, I thought my tacos would eventually come, but it turned out that our server forgot to put in my order. They came out quickly after I asked about them, but they were very unremarkable. Our friends are big fans and we were really looking forward to trying this place with them, but it fell a short of our expectations. Maybe it was an off day for service and the kitchen? Amazingly delicious! Everything was on point...food, service, ambiance. We created our own raw seafood platter consisting of oysters, cocktail shrimp, & Peruvian scallops. Followed by the Wild Spanish Octopus a La Plancha appetizer. The Misoyaki black cod and Lobstah Roll for the main course. Ended on a sweet note with Chocolate Pretzel Bread Pudding. All of their items had some unique twist to it that elevated taste and/or texture. Their cocktail shrimp had a savory nutty butteriness that kept the taste buds screaming for more. The octopus appetizer was perfectly cooked with a bouncy texture and when paired with the white bean muhammara and the mint to add a perk of freshness, excellent combo of mouth feels and taste. The bread pudding dessert was decadent and if the flavor burst alone wasn't enough, the light crisp bottom along with the soft middle enticed us to keep going for "one more bite" until every bite was gone. The staff here are super friendly. Chill beach vibes and still a special place to celebrate ambiance makes this a great place to come for a casual meal or to acknowledge a special accomplishment. We were craving some fresh oysters and seafood for lunch. Hears a lot of good things about FWD and o decided to book a couple of counter seats there for lunch. It gets pretty crowded even at lunch time so I highly recommend making a reservation. The staff were all really friendly, especially our server. The food was delicious and super fresh. The highlights are definitely the oysters, French fries, crab cakes and don't forget their key lime pie. Over all it was a great lunch. They have some cozy counter seats where you can see the oysters getting shucked. It's a small restaurant so get ready to be up close and personal with the seats beside you. read more

Amazing oysters and raw bar packed into a small but exciting ambiance. The service accommodated us walking in on a busy Saturday afternoon between the lunch and dinner rush. All the varieties oysters we tried in the flight of one dozen were excellent. The Peruvian scallops were the best I've ever had. The Spanish octopus was solid and savory, but not quite on the same level as the raw fare... You pay for quality here, but the price was worth it to treat yourself to an unparalleled dining aventure! read more
Wow, the seafood is so fresh! This is definitely the best seafood on Manhattan Beach. It's only a block away from the beach. The place is a cute little seafood shack except a little more nicer. I sat at the bar and there was very little wiggle room from the next person, but that made for great conversation to get to know your seat mates! I was convinced to try the Peruvian sea scallops, which is something I will definitely come back for next time I visit the beach! The oysters were fresh and the hamachi was light and refreshing. Overall, highly recommend. The food came out pretty quickly too. read more

Fabulous seafood and service. We are here to celebrate a birthday. This is a small restaurant in Manhattan Beach.We started off with the 2 tiered Queen Mary tower and added oysters to the tower. What a beautiful presentation complete with strands of seaweed decorating the seafood. Quite the variety of seafood ordered from octopus, scallops, sea bass, lobster roll, fish tacos. Sea urchin in rice. They gave us to celebrate 2 key lime pies. So sweet. In addition we had apple pie ala mode and chocolate pretzel bread pudding. Oysters were super fresh, though I did have a little stomachache later. The koshihikari rice was interesting and a bit salty. Service was friendly and the vibe makes it a nice spot for socializing or a date. Parking is paid street or nearby lot, about $2/hr. read more

Since my last post, I decided to cave and give this place another try. We did talk to the manager and she was appalled that no one got back to me for the pie incident and gave me another pie. We came in today again because we were in the mood for oysters and scallops. I also seen they had shrimps with the heads on, so ordered those too along with some Squash rolls. Everything tasted fresh the delicious. And of course I had to end my meal with the best tasting key lime pie. Haven't gone to the Florida Keys, but I've had a lot of key lime pie, and this one is one of the best! read more

A Cozy Gem by the Sea This place is tiny... the kind of spot where you're practically elbow to elbow with the table next to you...and honestly, that's part of what makes it so special. It feels warm, intimate, and full of character. The servers were incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. I ordered the clam chowder, and wow... it was excellent. Creamy, flavorful, and comforting in all the right ways. But the mussels? Even better. Perfectly cooked and packed with flavor... I was genuinely impressed. If you're in the mood for great seafood, amazing service, and a cozy vibe that makes you feel like a local, Fishing with Dynamite is a must. Ok, will I be censored for saying this was one the most tantalizing, robust, spiritual, sexy meal I have had in such a long time! Like I feel a little dirty about how much I enjoyed this incredible meal, And WHY did it take me so long to endure such an amazing explosion of yummy tastes that definitely brought sexy back to seafood! Fishing with Dynamite is one of those incredible hidden treasure that only should be experience if you know the secret word whispered to a bouncer who is hidden behind a freezer door located under a parking lot and you only can get there by paddle boat across a Hawaiian island guarded by unicorns and gnomes ..... but, here we are and anyone can go there. So - you're welcome! Tiny but mighty, the corner location encompasses a quaint interior, with a limited number of seats sooooo snuggle up next to your neighbor. Luckily- they are able to expand outside and on a nice day, a great way to spend an evening near the beach. Ok, ok, ok- the food. f**k it's gr8! Service terrific! Ambience ok- it was a bit chilly inside the restaurant - but who cares after the food arrives! Everything on the menu was d'lish! No complaints and please bring a second round - of EVERYTHING! STAT!! Did you not hear me? STAT! Please and thank you. LOL Started off with an assortment of oysters - we got the ichiban, summer stone, silver foxes oysters and SIX, yes. SIX Peruvian scallops. A terrific blend of tastes leaving me drooling for another round... but gotta keep composure. Second round- W.T. actual F! GRILLED JAPANESE HAMACHI COLLAR! Well, 1) I have never tried this before and 2) WHY didn't take me so long to try this! Incredible!!! Incredible! Again, incredible !! The dish arrived in what I want to describe as a spicy broth with vinegar undertones with thai basil. I want to say similar to a sweet and sour kinda of broth - the collar had a sweeter taste and next to the vinegar broth, which gives me the idea of a sweet and sour taste... But that doesn't matter because - holy molie batman - IT WAS GOOOOOOD! Third dish - say it with me ... "MISOY AKI BLACK COD" steamed bok choy, pickled baby shiitakes, fingered dashi and hijiki! Do i even need to say more... too bad I have table manners because I would have literally taken a straw and sucked up every ounce of the broth, but that is completely secondary to the Black Cod! Yummy, supple, tasty, and flavorful! Light but meaty, satisfying and indulgent. Yes please bathe me with everything on that plate! Lastly- dessert - "KEY LIME PIE" w/ a graham cracker crust, italian lime meringue! Perfect,..... just the right amount of everything and the most satisfying way to end the evening meal. It wasn't heavy, not too tart not too lemony, an equal part crust, meringue and lime. The table next to us strong armed us into this delight, I think my next adventure would be to try the "CHOCOLATE PRETZEL BREAD PUDDING" but that will need to be for another adventure of dazzling tast'ography! So if you made it to the end of my wild rage and rant on the exquisite and amazingly deliciously awesomely good meal I think you may think I may have enjoyed tonights food adventure. Been awhile since I've been here, and glad to come back on Labor Day. We got the queen mary tower - so delicious. It's almost enough for 3 people but you'll want more food than just this. The only downside is when the ice melts, the sauces will sink and flood into the tower so take them out of the tower. Also got the shrimp boil - so good. We used the sauce from this on the queen mary tower too . Crab cake app - so good. One of the best I've had, comparing it to neptunes in Malibu we had last week. The drinks were delicious. read more

My mom and I had a wonderful experience here we came for an early dinner/ late lunch, which is my favorite time to eat honestly and this place was perfect. Everything was delicious. The service was wonderful. I'm blanking on the young woman's name that served us, but she was super sweet and helped us with all of our questions over the menu. THE PERUVIAN SCALLOPS ARE AMAZING!!! The fries were actually amazing too and I am looking forward to coming back. The ambience is bright and cozy, laid back, but still elevated. It has windows where you can look out to the beautiful view. read more

Fishing with Dynamite is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the Manhattan Beach area. I love the casual ambiance with both indoor and patio seating. When we visited for lunch, we had the special honor of dining at the bar with John as our server. He's worked at FWD since its inception, and you can tell he knows his stuff. To start, we ordered the squash butter rolls, which were light, warm, and fluffy. Absolutely recommend. We also tried their oysters and crab roll with fries. The oysters were good, but not as great as some we've tried on the East Coast. The crab roll was delicious and came with a toasted buttery bun and a generous serving of crab. We ended our meal with the seasonal sour cherry pie. We cannot wait to go back! read more

This is a staple for myself and my parents for my birthday nearly every year. We always order the Queen Mary which is perfect size for both dad and myself (mom usually orders the Little Gem Salad and and a lobster or crab roll). The oysters are succulent, the crab and lobster is so fresh, and the shrimp garnished with dill is a savory addition. We've always made a reservation because space is very limited. We'll usually bring a bottle of white for them to open which goes well with the palette. It's usually pretty busy given the size of the restaurant, but we seem to always get great service. Hands down favorite spot ever for raw seafood!! They have set the bar high and it's honestly hard to eat anywhere else. We come at least once a month. The raw bar is so fresh, beautifully presented and just incredibly delicious. We always choose to just build our own custom tower but they do have pre-made towers available. We just prefer to have the things we want, as we don't care for the raw clams and mussels. On various occasions, we have tried a few of their other menu items: fish sandwich, clam chowder and cooked scallops. All of it was good but the raw items are really the stand-out things to eat. Our typical order includes: Dozen oysters (fresh and rotating varieties) Dozen raw scallops (our favorite and very unique) Uni (super fresh and comes with grilled bread) King crab legs (great flavor and lots of meat!) Half pound lobster (yummy and tender) They recently added a caviar and crème fraîche dip to the menu which is fantastic! The restaurant itself has a casual atmosphere. It's very small, can get a little cramped, but definitely worth it. There's a cozy bar area to enjoy food and drink but also outdoor seating. They have a small, but nice, selection of wines and some tasty cocktails that are unique and well balanced. Service is ok; sometimes they just get super busy and can't be as attentive but also sometimes there could be a little more friendliness from them, in my opinion. I highly recommend making a reservation and Ubering if you can't walk, as parking can be tough, especially in summer. Don't forget to try the key lime pie! read more

How's the parking?
Street parking and some garages but depending on the time of day street parking is hard to come by.
Is there a kid's menu?
No, not that I know of. I was there in July. I've been there often and they've never had a kid's menu. The place and tables small, not particularly child friendly regarding space.
Is it good for groups/large parties?
Not really. We are a family of 4 and we were very cozy in there
Where to park?
There is a public parking lot less than half a block up manhattan Blvd.
