The slaw side should be a guacamole instead. Slaw goes great on shrimp tacos but ehh for chips and dip, it missed. Corn side was mediocre. Kind of bland. Maybe some cojito cheese would have made it better. The onion rings could have been better for the price. Definitely not something I'd want to go back to for again. I have had food at the kitchen before and it is very good. I decided to order the cowboy burger with loaded onion rings. The cowboy burger was cooked beautifully and tasted incredible. The loaded onion rings were delicious. Fishers Test Kitchen is a great place within Sun King Fishers if you want to grab a bite to eat while enjoying a beer with friends. The only difference is you order at the table through the QR scanner and you pick up your food at the designated kiosk in the kitchen. There is no face to face interaction with a person, which some people may not like, but it is a great feature at Sun King Fishers because it is constantly busy and you can get your food right away as soon as it is available. Our little one loves the outdoor space in the Fishers District and every now and then the restaurants will shuffle and provide a space for new concepts. I was told they had brisket tacos that were like birria tacos - which happen to be my favorite but are hard to find. There are 3 Test Kitchen restaurants, plus an offshoot of Sun King (main restaurant is connected). I went for dinner and got a Juicy Brisket Taco and a Juicy Pork Taco from Gorditos. They were good. I liked the pork taco the best. The description actually says that the pork taco is their take on the birria which is usually beef. There is also a Sun King bar in the space and lots of tables. I sat at the bar, got a drink, and ate there. The bartender was great. It was very busy in the space, and looks like it is a very popular place. The Test Kitchen is attached to the Fishers' Sun King Brewery, in that awesome area near IKEA. This is the second time we've tried to eat lunch here... the first time the table ordering system was down and the lines at the kitchen kiosks were not moving, so we left. Today, we tried again and found the table ordering system was down again. You're supposed to be able to sit down and scan the card at your table and order from any of the kitchens, and it will be brought to your table. Frustratingly, was down again. Simple enough, you can order at the kiosks up front. The place was pretty empty and there were no employees to ask questions of. Once we put our order in, it said we could get our own soft drinks but there was no one behind the counters to give us cups. I kept standing there for 10 minutes just to see if I could go ahead and get my cups for drinks. There is a separate area that's just the bar and I walked over there and flagged down a male employee who at first told me I had to wait for my food to come out and they'd give me my cups then. When I nicely said I'd just like to be able to go ahead and get my drink, he proceeded to walk back over to the counter I'd been waiting at and reached across and grabbed my cups. It was only right after that that someone came from the back and started making our order. So at that point, our order had been in for more than ten minutes and they were just coming from the back to start it. And no, there were no other orders at that point. I sat down and watched and waited and did receive the text that our order was ready for pickup at the counter. By the time I made ten steps to pick up my food, the lady had already disappeared back into the back. My food was just left sitting there. The food was good... nothing spectacular but definitely not bad. We had Gorditas tacos... chicken, brisket, pork... and street corn and chips, salsa, queso. But we won't be back. We were almost done with our food when a female bartender walked the floor and asked if I wanted anything else to drink... by then my answer was no. This place absolutely sucks and I can't figure out why there are other people in here. The online ordering process is ridiculously cumbersome and waiting for the web site to load between screens is stupid. We finished a beer between menu screen reloads. Is this on purpose? The menu is 100% gen-Z, calling out screen after screen of warnings of dozens alerts of allergy, sensitivity, and political dietary precautions. Meat is not called "meat" but instead "protein" to assuage the guilt and shame of ordering (gasp!) actual meat. Our order came out wrong. After the ridiculously slow web-based ordering we sucked it up. We weren't going to complain. And the food was bland, considering the dozen superior restaurants nearby within walking distance that knew how to apply appropriate spices and seasonings to food. Hell, the sushi bar at Kroger was looking mighty tasty, even if we had to eat it in the parking lot. All of this while watching the blue-haired guy with horned-rimmed eyeglasses and Hawaiian shirt drink his beer from a straw. I guess it just isn't our demographic. read more

Finally got to try Fishers Test Kitchen, what a great concept! It was very busy on a Thursday evening and there was a wait to get a table. Parking is difficult, and traffic can be bad with drivers speeding around searching for a parking space. It was raining heavily and several drivers were simply leaving their vehicles in the street while they went inside to pick up food. The unoccupied vehicles in the street caused congestion when other drivers couldn't get around them. Other drivers began driving in the wrong lane to get around the unoccupied vehicles, a real traffic mess. For an appetizer I tried some Oui Oui style fries at One Trick Pony. Fries were excellent, topped with gravy and grilled onions. A nice starter. For our meal we went to Gordito's Rustbelt Tacos & Tortas. This place was outstanding! We were able to sit inside, as there are several seats at a counter. It was definitely entertaining to watch the chef at work while eating our meal. We ordered Nachitos Gordito's. The tortilla chips are house-made, and the refried banzogis have an amazing flavor and texture. Drizzled with peach morita, which was smoky and spicy, one of the best salsas I have ever tried. We ordered an extra side to drizzle on our tacos as well. We ordered slow roasted chicken tacos and juicy vegetarian banzogis tacos. We tried the orange sauce and green sauce, each was mildly spicy and full of flavor. Service was enthusiastic and excellent, the menu was explained thoroughly with a description of each item, side, and salsa. You can tell these guys really love what they do and the recipes and combinations they create. An epic experience! I really like Fishers Test Kitchen, with the exception of the parking problem. We ate the One Trick Pony and my boyfriend said it's one of the best smash burgers he has ever had. The burgers come with "dandy sauce" which is similar to Big Mac sauce. If you plan to dine in, make sure you talk to the front desk first to get a table. They're great and the reservation process is super easy. We ate at the Signature Table inside the Fishers Test Kitchen, which is inside the Sun King Brewery. The Signature Table area features different pop up restaurants in an intimate bar counter style seating (seats about 8 or 10, I think). We attended when it was Serendipity Public House, and had a delicious meal of gourmet burgers -- we got a combo pack for $25 and it featured a mini crab cake, mini elk burger, mini chimi-burger, mini brie burger, mini bacon jam burger, and the house made tator tots with with truffle oil and parmasean topping. The hubs & I are big eaters, but this was enough for two of us with leftovers to take home! Alcohol is available from the on-site Sun King. (I had the sour cherry, which I enjoyed.) It was all a #yum. I have signed up for the Test Kitchen newsletter to stay up to date about what else will be hosted here -- so fun! Fishers Test Kitchen is the best thing since sliced bread. Especially when that bread is actually a mini bao bun with fried chicken and spicy honey on it. What is it you ask?! Fishers Test Kitchen is essentially a space (within/next to Sun King Brewery) that houses three food vendors who only signed a year-long lease to kickstart a new foodie business venture. At the end of the year, they can renew the lease or end it, which allows them to attempt experimental dishes without much risk. Currently, the Test Kitchen hosts: - Korave: a Korean bbq, fast-casual spot that offers tacos, dubbop (rice bowl with either bulgogi beef, chicken, pork or tofu), bulgogi poutine, mee-chin nachos, and mandoo (Korean dumplings). I enjoyed the beef bulgogi bowl with purple rice and it was AMAZING. It's the item I'll come back for. - Lil' Dumplings: a spot that cooks up 'global street food' and offers chicharones, Szechuan hot chicken steam buns, oyaki cheesesteak dumplings, lamb chili & cheese dog, avocado huarache, lobster corn dog fritters, falafel, okonomiyaki smashburgers, and a kid's menu. The chef is also the co-owner of Rook downtown, which is already one of the city's favorite spots. I tried the hot chicken steam bun and although it was a bit too spicy for my palate, it was good and I enjoyed watching how much care chef Carlos took in making it. - Natural State Provisions: a southern food spot that uses natural ingredients and is brought to us by the owners of King Dough. They make salads, fried chicken sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, big turkey sandwiches on texas toast, burgers on texas toast, biscuit egg sandwiches, or sides of collard greens, tots, coleslaw, desserts, etc. I haven't tried this one yet but I'll be back for that chopped salad! - The Signature Table: described as "a performance and teaching kitchen designed for dinners, tasting events and classes with top chefs, beverage specialists and creative food artisans from around the region." You can attend an event or book out room for yourself (fits about 12 people) and it was built in an effort to make the area more entrepreneurial. My initial thoughts are: wow, I'm so happy we have a food hall that is supporting local chefs so well. I also am thrilled to have the opportunity to try so many new foods that we didn't have in the neighborhood. Yes, please. Please make more places like this, where people can congregate together and eat good food, drink good drinks and have fun. I love that Fishers Test Kitchen is family-friendly. There are board games that you can play -- they are located on the first floor by the store area. There's cornhole upstairs on the balcony. Each restaurant in this food court-style place has a kids menu. There is a big, open area with soft grass where kids can run around and tackle each other. (I'm almost positive that they didn't intend for that to happen when they designed this area, but when you have a big circle of soft grass, and you have kids, someone is running around and someone is getting tackled.) This is a great place for families to visit together, and I saw lots of families here, including my own. Right now, there are three restaurants in Fishers Test Kitchen: Lil Dumplings, Natural State and Korave Korean BBQ. We got something from each place just to try out their menus. That's the beauty of Fishers Test Kitchen: You can try something new, and everyone in your party can get what they want. When you enter Fishers Test Kitchen, you'll want to find a table and order drinks. Someone from Sun King will take your drink order, but they do not take your food order -- that, you'll need to go up to the counter and do. When you order food, the restaurant will give you a pager that will let you know when your food is ready. That way, you can go back to your table in the meantime and enjoy your drink. When you're done ordering beverages, you'll need to settle the tab with your server. So you'll have two different transactions: one at the restaurant, and one for beverages. It sounds more confusing than it is! You'll be fine. I'll leave my review about the food for the individual Yelp pages, but as for the beverages: I mean, you can't go wrong with Sun King. Of course, I'm the kind of person who orders red wine at a brewery, which is what I got this visit, but my wine was really good and they were generous with their pour. Review of Inspo I have tried and loved all the concepts that have come through Fishers Test Kitchen and I'm a fan. All the chefs are rock stars. I mean, who doesn't love Chef Carlos Salazar or Chef Neal Brown?!! However, I was truly excited to meet MasterChef Kelsey Murphy. She is just as sweet as she was on TV and her food is fantastic. I'll admit, I could not make a decision between two very different dishes so I ordered them both. I don't mind leftovers. The lobster Mac and Cheese was deliciously decadent with the perfect balance of lobster and cheesy pasta. However, in my opinion, the shining star is the Ancient Grain Bowl. I'm originally from San Diego and this bowl captured the essence of Southern California. It made me miss home. Well done, Chef Kelsey, you'll be seeing more of me. p.s. We decided to venture up to Fishers to try the Test Kitchen inside Sun King. I love the concept and very excited for the first batch of kitchens. There are 3 kitchens: Natural State Provisions, Korave, and Lil Dumplings. We tried foods from the later two. Because those two concepts work well to mix and match and try more things, they had higher foot traffic. Natural State is also unfortunately tucked in the corner more. Korave: Bulgogi poutine and street tacos (3) one of each of the meat proteins. Bulgogi beef, gochu pork, and chicken. I am writing this in order of favorites. Anything bulgogi is amazing and glad there is a place to get it around here. Pork was solid but do yourself a favor and let the grease run out of it before your first bite. Poutine is a large portion and is made for sharing or your whole meal. This plus a fountain drink was $25. A bit pricey but delicious! Lil Dumpling: having enjoyed Chef Carlos's food elsewhere I was excited to see what he came up with. We tried the Szechuan hot chicken steamed bun (I love steamed buns!). This was not hot spicy but did have a spice in it I found odd. I couldn't place it. My husband loved it and could eat it over and over. We also tried the lamb chili and cheese dog. Having had the lamb hot dogs in Iceland, we were intrigued. Nothing that exciting and it states cheese. I was expecting anything else but goat cheese! I love goat cheese but maybe not on this. This was $11 total. Seating was hard to find on a Saturday. I would never take a large group here with no guaranteed seating especially in the winter, but that's what many did. We shared a table with another couple upstairs. I think the space used for regulation size cornhole could have been better used for tables. Very loud in a enclosed warehouse and my table was in firing aim if someone were to have a bad throw or drunk. (They know it's a full bar right?!) Overall the food was great! Overall this is great place to relax with decent food. The table service was really nice however the chairs themselves are not realistic to sit in. I would recommend not sitting at the tables with black chairs as they are not anywhere comfortable. In addition they don't have real silverware(not the most eco friendly for starters), so make sure to get black ones. They are much more durable, the white one was literally bending as I was cutting. Also kinda funny odd placement of trashcans. I think this is due to SunKing wanting to have servers take on this task. The bathrooms are nice and new feeling. The overall food selection was wide as it ranged from $5-$15. Confirmed that there are no discounts ; no military, senior, college. For food: The pulled pork soda sandwich was good however rather fatty and the flavor was lacking in the larger pieces. I'd recommend separating larger pieces to help marinate. The falafel was really good and had a good about of flavor depth. The kimchi was average, not much spice but some. I had no idea that this was attached to sun king fishers, but it was a pleasant surprise when I visited sunking for their "lemon shandy" release. Fishers test kitchen has some food court vibes but better, you have three option which you go inside order your meal and then one of those Buzzers alters you to go pick up your food. I decided to go with the lil dumplings kitchen and I am not having buyers remorse with my option. They were running a devour option, which is always a good deal in my opinion. I had cowboy caviar, which was made with all fresh veggies, you could crunch some tostadas up and use them as chips. There also was a lobster roll included in the meal and I loved it as well, it tasted fresh and was seasoned to perfection. We went to the test kitchen with our 6 and 2 year old and sat for 15 mins trying to flag someone for drink service even though the waiter was helping tables next to us more than once, but ended up leaving. I know people hate kids mostly but mine weren't being crazy or anything. They were just existing. So if you have littles, don't expect to be served. You can still obviously order from the food court but I was looking forward to having a drink as well. read more

I really like the idea of having a Test Kitchen in Fishers. I am somewhat surprised that nobody else opened one before. Sure, there have been food courts that have had a wide range of success, but I can't think of any place that specifically was designed to encourage new chefs to come up with an idea, or for food truck chefs to take a shot at a brick and mortar restaurant, or an existing chef to try out a new idea without the prohibitive costs of start up. Although there is only limited time each restaurant can be in the Test Kitchen (I think it is one year), it seems like a fair enough time for each business to determine if the customers like the offerings. There is a special room called the Signature Table which can be reserved for special events like private parties, cooking lessons, & chef demonstrations. There are spaces for three restaurants at a time in addition to the Sun King Brewery which occupies the majority of the space. The individual restaurants don't need to worry about getting alcohol licenses which can be cost prohibitive for start up places since Sun King is on site with their range of beverage options. The three restaurants onsite when I visited were "Natural State" (southern), "Korave" (Korean BBQ), and "Lil Dumplings" (global street food), See individual reviews for these restaurants and Sun King. The Test Kitchen is very popular, so finding seating is a challenge. If you aren't successful on the main floor, you may find some room upstairs. The overall environment is quite loud and there are places that are family friendly (just not near the bar of Sun King.) Parking is at a premium. We grabbed one of the last street parking spaces just north of the brewery. They do have parking garages available, but I don't know if they charge or if they are free. Korave's menu is full of drool-worthy dishes, and I have yet to try more! Next on my list to try is their Mandoo and Mee-Chin Nachos. The Bulgogi Poutine is just too good. The selfish part of me just wished it was drenched in more of their amazing bulgogi. You can definitely eat this as a meal or share it as an appetizer. The Holy Moly Tacos were delicious, all with the meat as the star. It is hard to pick a favorite out of the pork, bulgogi, and chicken. If you are getting the bulgogi poutine then I'd say try the pork or chicken, since it really has the same flavor in a taco form. I am super super picky about cookies, so I didn't love the big stack as it was a bit harder than I thought it would be. Amazing spot to hang out and get yummy unique drinks at a great price! They have tons of games to play that are good for kids and adults. As someone with celiac, I was a bit disappointed about my gluten free options. Same frier used at Natural State for fried items and others, Korave puts Kikkoman soy sauce in everything (which yes, it's the best soy sauce, but it's not gluten free so c'mon!!) and the Lil Dumplings place is obviously a no-go for those with a gluten intolerance. I did accidentally eat a nacho from Korave, which was sooo good. If you have no allergies, the food options are amazing!! A few observations: 1. Everyone seems new and unexperienced 2. Natural State takes forever to make their food 3. Korave was quick - they were done with the good we ordered before my husband got back to the table 4. Natural State seems like a name for healthy food - definitely not. 5. Sun King drink prices are awesome!! read more

This is such a great concept and so far I feel executed well. There are three food court style options and a cool looking event space. We tried Korave, I reviewed it separately. All of this opens onto a large seating area with picnic type tables, smaller regular tables and some bar seating. There is also a second floor but I had Rise and Roll donut on the brain and I forgot to go up there after our meal. The very friendly Sun King staffer that we spoke to was telling us about the patio and upstairs deck also to be open in nice weather. He also mentioned that it was standing room only on Friday night so it's clearly already very popular. I saw families playing games and friends hanging out. The Sun King staff will bring you beverages to your table which is also a nice feature. We didn't have any beer for lunch but did note that in addition to beer they have a full bar upstairs. The event space was not open but I took a photo of the options for using the space. This also seems like a nice addition to Fishers. They are currently advertising a Valentine's cooking event, see photos below. This will be a space is now in our rotation of go to spots for dinner and hanging out with friends. read more

This location and the food here was not bad at all. I plan to come back and check out the other 2 food vendors. My co-worker and I was at the Fishers District and decided to stop in. It was not busy and there were probably 10 customers, so we got our food pretty quickly. Decided to give the Korave, Korean BBQ a try. They also have a place called Natural State Provisions which is an all American burger eatery and Lil Dumplings. Not sure how I could describe their menu. Food is a mix from different parts of the country. At Korave, I ordered the beef bulgogi tacos. You get 3 in your order and the toppings include a mix green salad, pickled radish, creamy sauce, and a Korean sauce. It was tasty but a bit on the sweet side. I needed something to kick up the spice level. It ran me roughly about $11.00. The 3 tacos was very fulfilling. Overall experience was nice. The location has tons of seating. This place is located inside Sun King. They have additional seating upstairs with an outdoor patio where you can play cornhole. I also seen a giant Jenga game on one of the tables and even a foosball table! I think folks will enjoy it once the weather warms up. read more

Fantastic addition to The Yard and Fishers! The Test Kitchen is a unique concept that I absolutely love! The concept: The Test Kitchen is a "culinary launch pad" that houses three different entrepreneurs/restaurants. It serves as a place for each chef/entrepreneur to test their menu and restaurant's concept. Each restaurant will be in the Test Kitchen for a year or two with the end goal of being able to launch into a full scale restaurant! The Test Kitchen is a food court/hall style layout. You order and pay at the restaurant(s) of your choice and then find a table. At the table, a server will come by and take your drink order. They offer Sun King beers, cocktails and wine. I tried food from 2 of the 3 restaurants and all of the food was fantastic! I can't wait to go back and try more of the food. My only compliant is that they have plastic silverware. The plastic silverware was so flimsy and hard to eat with, as well as, a little wasteful. In addition to the above, the Test Kitchen has "The Signature Table." It is a small kitchen surrounded by a large table that will have different culinary events, such as classes, demonstrations and dinners. Couldn't wait to get here and today was a great day to go. If you've been to and love the Sun King in Carmel, you might find this area a little jarring, imo. It's the same concept, but while the Carmel site feels warm, rustic, and inviting, this area feel industrial, cold, and unfinished. It's a busy area, with IKEA and Portillo on the same street off of 116th street. All of the buildings are modern with sharp lines and lots of glass, with close parking and cement. Plenty of different restaurants and bars to walk too outside of the rest kitchen too. Inside the Test Kitchen, there is plenty of seating , crayons for the kids, and a combo of high and low seating as well as picnic tables. All of the food stalls had kids options, so there is something for everyone. This was interesting though because family friendly was definitely a theme but there were no games or outside area for kids, unlike the Carmel stop. Plenty of boozy options, also coffee and cocoa. Friendly faces, lots of room to get between tables. Looking forward to all all construction in the area to be done so we can see the finished product. read more

I like the setup here but unfortunately the food is disappointing. I would say if you are going to just socialize and drink this would be a good location. read more
