It was a stormy night, and our team had just finished a major project and headed out for a well-deserved meal. We chose Kona Jacks (hang with me for a minute), but they weren't seating guests because of a tornado watch. Instead, the host requested, or rather, demanded that we head to Daddy Jack's next door. I was a bit confused about why a tornado watch necessitated moving to the restaurant right next door, but we rolled with it. When we arrived, Dani greeted us and immediately made us feel welcome. We talked through the strange transition, and Dani truly listened. She acknowledged my confusion, validated it, and then kindly and expertly guided us into the next part of our evening. From that point on, the experience was so smooth you'd think Dani and the kitchen were reading our minds. Our glasses were never empty, and the food arrived hot, fresh, and full of incredible flavor. We made short work of it. Chatting with Dani throughout the night, we discovered she's a 20-year veteran of the service industry, and it absolutely showed. I made reservations at a new restaurant that I haven't tried before. It is definitely a well established location and has an older clientele, despite that, it still was a vibrant location. The waiter was very helpful with suggestions on the menu and his service was very attentive. It has very large portions. I had steak with side salad and also we had fried mushrooms as well. Those were delicious. I may or may not come back to this location because it is not in my normal area but nothing about the location of food or service would deter me from coming back. We enjoyed our dinner. This restaurant has a good sized dining area and seats at the bar. No One under 21 is allowed. Such a great neighborhood restaurant! We came here on a Saturday evening, and it was pretty crowded but we were greeted immediately. Our server was really nice and very helpful as we could not make up our minds (I wish I got her name). We ordered the potato skins and toasted mozzarella as an appetizer. The potato skins were just okay--they seemed a bit overcooked. I heard good things about their steaks, so that's what we went for! I got the filet with a side Caesar salad, and my fiancé ordered the New York strip with rice pilaf and green beans. Both entrees were pretty good! I don't mind paying $100 (tip included) for an appetizer, 2 entrees and an iced tea but I expect a pretty good experience for that price tag. Lisa got right to us and we ordered mushroom appetizer. After about 30 minutes, we asked about bread. She said it will come with entrees. After 45 minutes we asked again for bread and about our appetizer. She said, "I've been asking about them..." and still insisted bread would come with appetizers." Now wouldn't you have just brought the bread cause clearly we are asking because we are starving at this point?!!!!! True to her word the bread came with the entrees, shortly after mushroom arrived. She was informed, courteous and efficient. I've been here many times and have never been disappointed. We arrived for a 6:30 reservation. They almost tried to tell us we'd have to wait because they were extremely busy, but when I insisted because we did have a reservation, they quickly found a half-booth table. The restaurant was very busy that night, but it tends to be popular on Friday nights. There was some light music playing in the background as well. Trina was very friendly and didn't make us wait long before greeting us. My wife ordered a draft cream ale to drink and I just stayed with my water for my drink. They started us off with a warm crusty multi-grain half loaf of bread that came with a sweet cinnamon whipped butter for spreading. I didn't have any, but my wife did and she loved it. She always loves their bread! For my entree, I ordered their always delectable seafood fettuccine with a side salad with ranch dressing as my side. My wife ordered the New York strip steak cooked medium rare with a baked potato with butter and sour cream as well as a side salad with blue cheese dressing. The salads came out first and were on a small chilled dish. They looked nice and tasted fresh with mixed greens, a thick slice of tomato, a thick slice of cucumber, a pepperoncini, some shredded cheese and sunflower seeds on top. When my seafood fettuccine came out it looked and tasted absolutely delicious as always. Big juicy sea scallops, tender pieces of crab, tender and juicy shrimp and green onions coated with plenty of a light creamy sauce that has a hint of lemon and garlic and comes with Parmesan cheese on top, a piece of garlic bread and a lemon wedge on the side, and a nice big spoon on the side for twirling the pasta. There was I believe parsley sprinkled on the outside rim of the plate for decoration purposes. I had a happy tummy when I was done eating. My wife was very pleased with her New York strip steak. It was 13 ounces of USDA choice strip charbroiled to medium rare. It looked really good, tender and juicy and she happily told me it was. The baked potato was a nice size and looked nice and fluffy inside before my wife added the whipped butter and sour cream to it. She enjoyed the potato as well. Trina was very good at making sure we had everything we needed and refilled my water as needed. I used the bathroom before we left. Both the bathroom and the restaurant seemed very clean. Great local place that has been there forever! Don't let the strip mall location fool you! This is an old-fashioned, classy joint where "movers & shakers" have gotten together to do business or congratulate each other on their successes for years! The menu is diverse, the fish is probably the best in the city, and the bar & drink list is deep, cold and plentiful! You do need some decent tequila, though! Maybe some Suavecito? Love this old school seafood spot! Visited here to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday night with a lovely sushi dinner. The place was super busy but we were able to get a table despite not having a reservation. I love the beach inspired decor here as well as the many large fish tanks. Once you're here, you might forget you're in landlocked Indiana! DJ's has some amazing fish dinners but don't sleep on the sushi, honestly it's always been delicious. We chose four rolls and a bowl of lalo miso, a unique spin on traditional miso soup. The rolls were fresh, flavorful and nicely presented. Our server was very friendly, helpful and efficient. Thank goodness for reservations because this place is hopping even on a weekday night. It's a space from yesteryear which makes it feel warm and cozy. The service here was impecable. Shout out to Lisa who managed our rowdy group and all our requests along with separate checks. Yes they add the gratuity automatically, but she deserved it and more. The food was good. All my guests raved about their dishes. I had ordered the nachos with chili and I hate to say it, but it was just really bland. I'll have to try something else next time. I did try a bit of the soup of the day and it was delicious, nice and full of flavor and with a bit of spice even. The Ceasar salad with salmon not only looked deliious but it was devoured quickly, which is always a good sign. We came here tonight to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We always have a wonderful dinner with excellent service in a comfortable and warm environment. The patio is located directly in front of the entrance. I love so many things on their menu. The menu offers a wide selection of delicious appetizers, numerous selections of sushi rolls (from Kona Jack's), soups, and fresh salads. Diverse selections of wonderful sandwiches or an amazing dinner of steaks, seafood, chicken, or pasta dishes. My husband ordered the Glazed Salmon served with baked potato and rice pilaf. He raved about the perfectly prepared glazed salmon, along with his perfect baked potato. I ordered the super tender Chicken Piccata with a house salad, bleu cheese dressing, and a loaded baked potato. The lemony white sauce is light and flavorful with capers and a touch of garlic. My dad was craving their grouper fish, so we came here based off of his previous experience. This restaurant is also connected with Kona Jack's - when we first came in through the Daddy Jack's side, we were escorted to the other side because they don't take people under 21. What was super nice about this was that you can order food from both the Daddy and the Kona Jack's side and I thought that was really cool. Our server was extremely nice and made it clear to us we could order from either menu. We got the clam chowder, and it was so delicious - probably the best I've ever had. It was followed by homemade bread, which was fresh out of the oven. However, I got the steak sandwich and it was very under seasoned, and it was an small portion of steak. Cannot recommend. My folks like this place, but after tonight's visit I will not be back. I ordered the Tilapia which was supposed to be "lightly blackened and topped with our tomato basil butter." Sounded great and I was looking forward to it. Instead it came out sautéed in a lemon wine sauce with capers. I pointed out immediately that the dish was not as described: blackened with tomato basil butter. The manager delivering the entrees said, "Oh yeah, it does come that way. I can have them re make it for you, but it will take a while." According to the menu you can have the tilapia with the lemon wine sauce if you request it, which I did not. I've had the lemon wine sauce on their seasonal walleye and did not like it. In fact as we drove their I reminded myself to not order anything with the lemon wine sauce. So I was thoroughly disappointed. I was not gonna wait "a while" for the correct dish while my dad ate. The manager then stated he would take care of it on the check and never did. I tried Daddy Jack's for the first time over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. We went on a Saturday around 6pm and they were able to squeeze us in without having a reservation. Side note, Daddy Jacks is attached to the adjacent Kona Jack's, a sushi restaurant, and the two share bathrooms in the middle. Daddy Jack's has major English pub vibes with several TV's. They also have a large bonus room attached to the main dining area, with a separate bar and all. The menu is pretty extensive including salads, sandwiches, burgers, fish, steak, etc. Several things caught my eye, but I opted to try the Turkey burger and added cheese ($1 extra). It comes with kettle chips, but you can also sub for a different side. The burger was alright, but I really enjoyed the pesto mayo. Given the variety of options, I would probably try something else next time. That said, I did enjoy the atmosphere and the service was fairly prompt. We were seated a small room just off the main dining area which was nice and quiet. They have an extensive menu ranging from steaks to sandwiches. You can also order food from the Kona Jack's menu, their place next door that offers seafood and sushi. Our server was nice and accommodating since my friend and I wanted to catch up for bit before we ordered. We got our dinner salads and bread. The loaf looked so.good. I am all about a delicious loaf of bread. When I tried to cut it, the entire loaf fell apart. It was not fresh and not edible. Just a few minutes after the salads came out our entrees arrived. I prefer to have a slower paced meal to really enjoy the experience of dining out. This was just poorly timed. I had the tortellini prosciutto. At first I wondered if the snap peas were frozen but they weren't. The sauce was the star of this dish. It was creamy and garlicy goodness. Had lunch at Daddy Jacks, it was delicious! Not pictured was a cup of Gumbo and chili soup. Hubs had Blackened Cod sandwich and I had a Patty Melt, it melted in my mouth. The grilled onions, Swiss and American cheese were perfection. We love to come a lot to Daddy Jacks and Kona Jacks, the restaurants are connected and you can order from either restaurant. Almost no wait time for my order which was nice, but while I waited I saw the bar area was very busy with what seemed like regulars. Lots of bartenders available so didn't have to wait long for a drink and they were making easy conversation with everyone. Friendly and laid back atmosphere and great patio seating for summer time. I got a big island delight salad and sweet potato fries and neither disappointed. They put my chicken in it's own container so the sauce didn't make the salad soggy before I got home. It was so much food! Easily made two meals out of the salad. All ingredients were fresh and tasty. Visited for lunch and due to COVID they now have many outdoor tables each with a large umbrella to provide shade. Tables are well spaced and all staff wear masks. I believe they also have spaced indoor seating as well. We wanted the more casual Kona Jacks but discovered due to COVID both Daddy Jacks and Kona Jacks menus were provided to patrons, probably to be more efficient for the business. Signs are posted at Kona Jacks to enter and see the hostess at Daddy Jacks and the entrance has markers to keep those in line spaced. I had the sesame seared Ahi sashimi and it was quite tasty. It had a side of seaweed salad that was refreshing and a small rice. We also split an order of calamari, which was good but not the best calamari I've had.
