I decided to go to the Shaking Crab after hearing and seeing a bunch of buzz about it. You get to choose 2 from a list of different seafood options. I went with Crab legs and Shrimp with no heads. I got the Shaking Sauce Mild which is their signature sauce it's 3 sauces combined and then you can choose how spicy you want it. The combo is served with fried rice corn and potatoes. The portion was big it was enough for 2 people. I spend about $21 and it was worth it to me! The only reason I have a 4 and not a 5 is because the service was poor.

Definitely the best in the city thus far. I live in the Northwest side and make the 30min drive almost weekly because others do not compare. The portion size are phenomenal. The "Shaking Sauce" is not too oily and you can actually see your diced garlic and lemon pepper seasoning vividly. The flavor is bold and the seafood is always fresh. They even throw in a small serving of fried rice which pair nicely with the corn in the boil.

Just sat down waiting for menus.

No flavor and very oily. The only thing that was actually worth eating was the potato and the corn.

I couldn't let frozen seafood happen on his birthday-he LOVES seafood. Here come's a recommendation for Tiff's Love Butta. Ordered from their website (could've ordered from DD & saved $5 but I'd rather order from a local business directly than give my money to DD). The website was SO easy to use, and setting up delivery was equally as easy. Even better that I was able to pick a time almost 12 hours later in the day so it would be hot & fresh right when he got home. I ordered him the *(1 lb) Love Butta Baked Snow Crab Clusters, 1/2 lb Shrimp, 1/2 lb Sausage, Smothered Potatoes, 1 Corn* and he LOVED it. He only ate half of it before succumbing to a food coma, and then he woke up in the middle of the night to even eat more. I cannot thank y'all enough for making my husband's birthday so special. And y'all have lamb too? He's gonna be so happy, he loves lamb. I can't wait to surprise him again with another beautiful meal from this place.

We asked to sit at the sushi bar so we could interact with the sushi chefs but, after being in our seats 10 minutes with no greeting or acknowledgement from the sushi guys we asked our waitress, Moira, who said they don't do that here. . By the way and more importantly, Moira greeted us right away and did everything to make us comfortable including allowing us to move to the patio. It's great out here and they've done a good job trying to hide the traffic on 116th. Here are my impressions: Seating, very comfortable and much nicer than I thought. Ambiance, higher end than I thought after seeing photos Wine, the Sancerre was light, not too sweet, and delicious, nice finish. Seaweed salad, delicious! Delmonte roll, Toro (tuna belly!) absolutely wonderful and I enjoyed it to the last bite. Lobster roll, lots of lobster in a light dressing of kimchi mayo on top of the veggie roll. Presentation, all of the dishes came out looking very appetizing. Dessert, Lemon Possette, is fabulous! Custard like but creamier/looser towards the bottom with jam and fresh tanneries on top. It's difficult to stop eating! Chris, the owner, took the time to stop at our table and have a lovely conversation with us and we're so glad he created this touch of Monterey (CA) here in central Indiana. This restaurant is a definite thumbs up!

The restaurant itself is really well designed--traditional meets modern in a way that somehow works. Looking at the tiles and wall coverings individually, you might think, "Oh...interesting choice." But put it all together and it's actually quite harmonious. Design math, apparently. We started with drinks. I had one of their daiquiris, and it was perfect. I'm a whiskey girl, but after some enthusiastic pours the night before, the thought of more whiskey was a hard no. The daiquiri was light, refreshing, and tasty--sweet, but not obnoxiously sweet. And most importantly, it tasted absolutely nothing like whiskey. Mission accomplished. For starters, we ordered the Brie brûlée. I was a fan. The husband was...not. Here's how you do it: take a wedge of their freshly baked toasted bread, slather on some strawberry jam, dip that glorious situation into the pistachio-dusted Brie brûlée, eat, and repeat. And repeat. And repeat. I eventually had to intervene with myself. I ordered the beet and peach salad without the beets because, well...gross. The peaches could have been a little riper, but the salad was still really good. Nicely dressed, with candied pumpkin seeds and some kind of soft herbed cheese that pulled everything together. Very tasty, and thankfully no beets were harmed in the making of my dinner. Then came the meatballs. I have never in my life had meatballs that tasted like these, and I mean that as a very good thing. They were herbaceous, tender, with just a hint of sweetness. And somehow, they kept getting better as we ate them. Especially the ones at the bottom, sitting in all that sauce. DO NOT PASS THESE UP. The husband ordered the prime rib, which he rated an 8 out of 10. High praise, friends. This man does not hand out 8s like participation trophies. Service was great, the food was genuinely enjoyable, and the whole experience was exactly what we wanted on our last night in Indy.

Nostalgia is a heck of a drug. It clouds your judgement. And when it comes to food, it makes you…read moreattach feelings and memories to that food, and makes you think that whack food is actually dope. Like, for instance, a cannoli filled with frosting. That's not acceptable, full stop. But it might be acceptable to you if you've been eating whack cannoli all of your life. (More like CAN'Tnoli, am I right? Thank you -- I actually stole that piece of comedy gold.) If you've been eating whack cannoli for decades because that's what grandma's been buying and bringing to get-togethers, and you love grandma, then you associate grandma-things with love, and they taste good to you. Again, nostalgia is a heck of a drug, and much like other drugs, it makes food taste way better in our minds than it actually does in real life. I feel like that is what is in play here at Hart Bakery & Gifts. Hart Bakery has been around a long time. It's the third oldest bakery in Indianapolis! So, people have been buying baked goods from this place for generations. People have their favorites, obviously, and have their memories. But I have no such allegiance to Hart Bakery. I've only lived in Indiana for 10 years, and I only recently heard about this place, so I went in with a clean slate. Grandma be danged. I visited to get some donuts. Most of the donuts were gone by the time I arrived (11 o'clock-ish), but I did snag a glazed twist and two sprinkle cake donuts. Because I wanted to taste a little bit of everything, I also got a peanut butter cup cookie and a cannoli. The women behind the counter also offered samples of their cinnamon-sugar donut holes, and their most popular pecan thumbprint cookies. So I feel like I got to taste the rainbow, so to speak. The pecan thumbprint cookies were indeed the best things I tasted. They are tiny little things: maybe the size of a quarter, and filled with white frosting. I could have done without the frosting, but you have to know that this bakery is very old-fashioned, so of course there's royal icing on an already sweet-enough cookie. My second favorite thing from this bakery was the peanut butter cup cookie. Actually, all of the cookies looked really good, and I think a cookie is a good bet here. My cookie was quite large and was more than enough to satisfy two people. The cinnamon-sugar donut holes came in third. The donut holes at Hart are not yeasted donuts like you'd find in other places. They're cake donut holes, so they are denser and more chewy. They were good, but one was more than enough for me. The other donuts that I got were just OK. I am a glazed twist lover, and I love them because they are light, but the glazed twist here were very dense. I brought home cake donuts for my kids, and they didn't finish them, which is not a good sign! My children always finish donuts. The cannoli was my least favorite. In this case, I think you'd need to take the gun and leave the cannoli, if I'm being honest. No mascarpone was injured in the making of these cannoli, and they really did taste like they were filled with white frosting. (Not even vanilla, but white frosting.) I dunno, man. If you're not going to make a cannoli with mascarpone, then you just need to not even offer it, is my feeling. If you're in the market for Precious Moments figurines, then Hart Bakery & Gifts is your place. Because the "& Gifts" part of the name means two walls full of Precious Moments porcelain collectibles, plus other kinds of knickknacks, signs and displays for the home. Not my home, but someone's home. I'm glad that I visited Hart Bakery, but I'm not sure I'll be returning. (Or, if I did, it would be for a bag of those little pecan cookies. Them's the shiz.)
