Okay so it started when I went to Atlanta in 2016, I went to this place called American Deli and man oh man this. Place. Was. EPIC!!!! Wings were awesome, I tried the hot wings but if you're a true wing person like myself, you would probably agree to not enjoying wings that are HUGE and looks unappealing. These wings were top notch great! So good that we ended up going again. Since we came back to Indy we couldnt find a place here like American Deli until we hear about Wings Mania. They have some pretty good wings as well.. not as good as American Deli but it sure does bring back Atlanta 2016 memories ;)

This is their first day open, so I'm making allowance for that, otherwise it would be one star. I don't know where to begin except at the beginning. Everything inside is new, as the space has been remodeled. Yet upon walking in, the whole place already smells of grease and fish. I'm guessing it will always be as such but worse with time because this is a one stop shop hodge podge of wings, seafood, sandwiches, smoothies, and gyros. Next, we approach the counter to an altercation already in progress. The customers already here are telling us to go unless we want to wait 45 minutes for wings. Well, already I'm intrigued, and rarely one to listen to others rantings, we proceed to order a strawberry smoothie and hot wings. I paid with my card, which I immediately think might have been another potential headache on its own. They ran it, reversed it, and charged it again. We sat down and waited 15 minutes for a smoothie, which was OK. We did indeed wait 45 minutes for the wings, which were good. For medium, they had a kick and were tasty. Noteworthy, they only have ranch, no blue cheese. Another customer threw a fit about that. The ranch was not good. Very generic. If you're a dipper, and I am, no or bad dip can be reason enough for me to give up on wings. Several customers were asking for their wings cooked hard because they were coming out a little underdone. They had no cocktail sauce for the seafood. There is also a language barrier that was contributing to order errors and lengthy turn around times. I don't typically like trying out places on opening day because there are always bumbles, but even taking that into consideration, this fledgling business had alot of hurdles to jump.

We always love their wings. We ordered 40 for the Super Bowl, and they were a hit with everyone, even the pickiest eaters!

The sandwich is about as long as my humerus, and I ate the whole dang thing in one sitting. New York Gourmet Deli is not to be confused with NY Gourmet Deli, also in Indy. New York Gourmet Deli is located on East 21st Street on the near east side; NY Gourmet Deli is on Ruckle Street, near The Children's Museum. Are they owned by the same people? I don't know, but someone needs to change their name so I'm less confused. Anyway, New York Gourmet Deli, on the east side, is great and located in an unassuming parking lot full of potholes. It looks like a liquor store from the outside, but step inside and you'll see the large deli counter where you order sandwiches, burgers, fries and other foods. The joint is also a convenience store, of sorts, with a wall full of refrigerated beverages, aisles of chips, candy, and lots of Mexican snacks. There's also a little corner of the store with goods like laundry detergent and other necessities. The hustle here is unmatched. The fellows behind the counter were flying all over the kitchen to fulfill the orders. I visited around noon on a weekday, which seemed to be a busy time because there were lots of people from all walks of life here, either waiting to order or waiting for their orders. The guys behind the counter were unflappable and took orders and made sandwiches at a speedy pace. Even if there's a line, you won't wait long for your food.

Service was very good with only a slight wait due to a small line. You order, they start making your order and you pay. A few minutes later the have everything ready and bagged up. I got a chopped cheese, it does reminded me of a sloppy Joe, and my only complaint was I wanted more lettuce and tomato. Richelle got the east coast roast beef and cheddar. She loved it and it had plenty of lettuce and tomato. Fries are good, and the give them a sprinkle of seasoning too. Plenty of cans of pop to choose, but would like to see a few diet pop options added. We will definitely come back, and I ask for plenty of toppings.

However, as I parked I spied Sleepy Hollow Gourmet Deli & Cafe along with a Jack's Donuts. I was curious. So, I wheeled over and realized they were like conjoined culinary twins. I detoured my plans and decided to hang out at Sleepy Hollow, a delightfully named establishment (though I do wish they'd lean into the decor a bit more) for this Irvington-set restaurant. Jack's does seem to be the dominant force here. There are donuts, bagels, cookies, and even kolaches. The prices are surprisingly affordable. Drinks include hot coffee, iced coffee, lattes, boba energy, and Pepsi products. They do have both sweet and unsweetened iced tea. The menu also includes Choc-ola! The deli menu includes toasted subs (every sub has 1/4-pound of meat and you can go double for an extra price). They use Boar's Head meats. You can get chips and a soft drink to make it a combo. This strip center is always a little hit-and-miss in terms of access, however, with some nearby road construction it seems just a bit slower and I was able to find a spot that improved my accessibility. If you go to the door by the entrance, the curb has a bit of a step to it. If you go to the end of the aisle, there's a smooth and level section to make it all easily work. The interior itself is nicely laid out and easily accessible. The employees were super friendly. They also offer catering. There's a combination of higher-top tables and regular tables. Business was fairly steady, however, I had no issue finding a place to sit. I ended up ordering a chicken salad sandwich that was a healthy size and quite tasty. I grabbed a bag of chips and my usual unsweetened iced tea. Pricing was right about $13. Overall, I was quite pleased and I would easily return. Whether you're seeking donuts or a deli sandwich, Sleepy Hollow (or Jack's) is an ideal place to stop in.

The space is big and fun, with a large dining room, an old-school video arcade game, interesting art, and a big screen playing movies, which adds to the laid-back, quirky vibe. It's counter service with clear menu boards on the wall, making ordering easy. I had the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon and an egg and... my goodness. So incredibly delicious. One friend ordered the same grits but swapped in fried catfish instead of bacon--also a fantastic choice. Our third went with a classic plate with eggs and bacon, and let me tell you, the bacon is thick and plentiful. We ordered a side of fries for the table and there were more than enough to share. Self-serve coffee with all the fixings is a nice touch, and the service was friendly and welcoming. Fun atmosphere, great food, solid portions--definitely will be back.

My husband and I had never been here before and the lady at the counter was less than friendly. She did tell us the menu was on the other wall. My husband got a Diet Coke that came in a can and we both got a classic plate minus the toast. 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties... nothing special including the presentation. The price for each plate was $18 plus a $2 can of coke and a tip they didn't deserve brought our total to a little over $40. The eggs were flavorless and literally had no seasoning. I did appreciate that the sausage patties weren't greasy. That was about the only good thing. The decor looked like they took whatever thrift stores couldn't sell with no particular theme. Funny enough, we went out for breakfast a few days later to a DIFFERENT PLACE and for the SAME PRICE got way more food, better quality food, better presentation, full table service, friendly service, great atmosphere, and an overall wonderful experience. Overall, I would not recommend this place. We left feeling like we got ripped off and I could have made the same thing better at home.
