Excellent fried chicken at this SoBro converted bungalow. The wings are perfectly crisp, and the fries are very good. There is plenty of parking in the lot that's on the west side of the restaurant. This is exclusively a takeout spot, and I rate Papa Bears' wings among the best in town. Order ahead or be prepared to wait (less than 15 minutes if not busy). Friendly service. I suggest calling ahead because the hours are limited and depend on Papa's availability. I went on a Saturday at about 1:45 pm and was the only one there. This is a real gem!

Great food! Good service! Small to go spot on 46th st across from gold leaf. They stay open late late on the weekends (after 3am). When we went at 9pm it said open but the door was locked and no one was there. We figured he just went out for a minute, which was the case. Its a one man show. Glad we stuck around for a few minutes. Chicken scratch was completely closed. It was well worth the wait. Took about 15-20 min for our food. The flavor was good, the food was hot. Loved the spicy garlic on the wings. The stir fry has a honey garlic pepper sauce. It's a huge serving. Def have leftovers so worth the $30+. It's a small shop and sign so you might miss it if you're not looking for it. They are on Instagram and update it so id check it too or call before going

They food was so good! I'll definitely get the wings wet next time but it's definitely flavorful and cooked well! I wish I got more fries. Be aware they didn't have typically take out containers but it's fine. The space is takeout only but you can sit outside (1 table) to wait for your items. Also they are open til 3am on the weekend. It'll definitely become a weekly spot.

Thank you Papa Bear! Our son requested wings for his graduation open house this weekend... on Wednesday! We spoke with Papa Bear's on Thursday morning and he pulled through with an order of 400 wings I picked up on Saturday morning. And they were delicious! Papa Bear's was a big hit with everyone in attendance. We had trays of BBQ, Parmesan Garlic, Honey Garlic Pepper and Buffalo. All 4 were amazing. And these weren't tiny little wings. Papa Bear's buys the good stuff. Nice and hearty. We definitely recommend Papa Bear's for your next large party. Note that the standard Buffalo sauce has quite a kick to it. If you don't like spicy, the BBQ was sweet and mild.

Crispy, well seasoned and made with love. Great food, owner was super friendly and happy to have a conversation while cooking up my dinner. I've heard good things and happy I gave it a try! If you like non breaded meaty wings this place will not disappoint

This is my GO TO place to get chicken in Indianapolis! The lemon pepper chicken wings are AMAZING! They are perfectly crispy and seasoned very well. There are several other flavors like BBQ, parmesan garlic, buffalo ECT. Hint.. if you like fries get an extra side of fries! In my opinion you don't get enough fries with the wings. It has 1 small table inside for two if you want to eat in but I usually grab and go. The owner seems like a real cool guy!

I've been meaning to come here for a minute, driving up 46th I was always thinking you should stop here and check it out. Could never find the right time to do so, but I'm happy to say I finally stopped! I called ahead because I had always heard that it was cash only and I wanted to make sure before I made the trip but they take card as well. The gentleman is very helpful, making suggestions and answering questions. My decision on food was some bone in wings, flavor choice was garlic parm, and they were delicious! I was truly impressed by the flavor it was the perfect amount of sauce and spice combination. I know a lot of people don't like this word, but they were moist, and that's important when it comes to chicken in my opinion no one wants dry chicken. They also came with fries which were delicious as well. Price is very reasonable, worth a stop and I know I'll be back to try more food, and I'll add this as a lent stop

Satisfied! Chicken was hot & crispy! Sauce was great! The food was Done in a timely manner which is always appreciated, with good customer service.

Jerk wings. The SMELL. Man these are gonna be good.

Another place on my bucket list for years, mostly because of its proximity to Black Circle Brewing Company. Stopped by today and they're handing out free chicken. No questions asked. The madman behind the window argued with me when I insisted on actually buying and paying for something :) Because I had to special order (yes I'm being a pain in the rear but I can't just take food and dash on my first visit) I'm waiting on my order and I sampled these piping hot chicken legs I received. OH. MY. GOD I've died and gone to heaven. Seriously this is the best fried chicken I've ever had outside of Nashville, TN. Right out of the fryer, super juicy, and amazingly seasoned. They have other things on the menu too. This place definitely isn't for the health conscious and that's fine by me. :) I will be back for sure! EDIT: Picked up my paid for food. I broke the speed limit to get back to the office these things smell so damned good. See the photo. Get down here!

Light, Dark and naked wings. I will start with sides. The greens, better than I ever had including AL, MS, LA and TN. Slaw was classic LA. Good, I am vinger slaw guy. Now for the chicken. First and foremost the medium is no joke HOT. Anyone can make something hot. But the flavor of the hotness is world class. Whatever they do, (brine whatever) the flavor is deep in the meat, including the breast. Absolutely fantastic. My only advice is if you find a raw jalapeno to hot, go one level down in spice. Unless you can set an eat raw Serranos, don't pay .$50 to go spicier. Who would have thought, amazing hot chicken, Indy.

It honestly hurt to see all that chicken go directly into the garbage, but they claim it was inedible. Since it's not a saucy type of flavoring, but a dry rub, they said that the heat was painful, and not flavorful. Back to the sandwich I enjoyed... I felt that there was a sweetness to the flavor that I liked, which I could see not everyone enjoying. There is also a hot dusting over the french fries which exacerbates any discomfort people are having from the heat. There really wasn't anything to cool it down. The macaroni and cheese was piping hot, although not spicy.

The space is big and fun, with a large dining room, an old-school video arcade game, interesting art, and a big screen playing movies, which adds to the laid-back, quirky vibe. It's counter service with clear menu boards on the wall, making ordering easy. I had the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon and an egg and... my goodness. So incredibly delicious. One friend ordered the same grits but swapped in fried catfish instead of bacon--also a fantastic choice. Our third went with a classic plate with eggs and bacon, and let me tell you, the bacon is thick and plentiful. We ordered a side of fries for the table and there were more than enough to share. Self-serve coffee with all the fixings is a nice touch, and the service was friendly and welcoming. Fun atmosphere, great food, solid portions--definitely will be back.

We were greeted right away and looked over the menu a bit before ordering. My husband ordered the country breakfast with chicken (definitely the way to go) and I ordered the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon. We each got a cup for water and I ordered a coffee, excited because I saw ahead of going that it was self-serve (like at Cafe Patachou where I can get as many coffees as I like without having to wait for our server to come check on us first). However, the self serve coffee excitement was short-lived after seeing that they only offered half and half as creamer (I'm lactose intolerant) and the two coffee carafes were not labeled for what was inside (decaf? medium roast? you'll never know!) and then one was completely empty and never refilled during our visit. The water station also was not ever refilled during our visit, so we were not able to get refills after filling up our cups the first time. It took a couple of tries to find a table we could sit at because you seat yourself, but several had not been cleaned after other guests left and had food and drinks spilled on them. There were definitely enough staff members there to be able to clean them in between customers, so we weren't sure why they were left that way. We ended up sitting in the middle of the room towards the front, across from the clown art wall, which made for interesting conversation as we looked through everything. When the food came out I was impressed with the portions, but I had no flavor whatsoever to my cheesy jalepeno grits. The egg and bacon were good, but not enough to make it a good dish and I would not order it again. And I love savory breakfast and grits in general, so it was a real bummer. My husband's dish was worth the visit though. It was a huge portion size and we honestly would just split it if we came back and ordered it. It was so savory, seasoned perfectly, and juicy. One of the best breakfast dishes I have tried recently! I really debated between 3-4 stars for this, but my dish was a flop, the lack of cleanliness for the seating area, the lackluster self-serve coffee station, and not refilling the beverages ultimately scored a 3 star review for me. I would come back and try something else though, or split the country chicken breakfast because it was really good. Hopefully next time the beverages won't be empty!
