I stopped in here for my first time yesterday. We walked in and took a seat for lunch, we did not have to wait for someone to seat us. Our waitress immediately came over with the menus and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. They serve only wine and beer so no cocktails here. We both ordered an iced tea. She left to get the drinks and we perused the menu although my friend already knew what she wanted she had a favorite there. She returned and we ordered. I ordered the Nash's Chips and my friend ordered Chicken Yum. The restaurant was pretty busy inside but still not overly loud. We received our meals and my Nash's Chips were good but not spectacular, it was a good bite for lunch. If you are looking for a safe Gluten Free and other allergens restaurant to add into the rotation, then this is the place. Also, were else in Indy can you say you ate from a restaurant where the food is "From the Bed" (not sure if the naming was intentional, but that's the French translation) ? Highlights: + Allergens are clearly listed on the menu +Many gluten free/ dairy free options to choose from +Fresh ingredients + Pricing is extremely fair for the quality and quantity of the ingredients + Friendly and helpful staff + They did a very good job handling allergies and knew what Celiac meant. I had a safe dining experience and experienced no reactions on the multiple occasions that I've eaten there. +All deserts (not listed but made fresh throughout the week) were gluten free. Though they are on the richer tasting side to me, I was able to enjoy them for multiple days. + Majority of their seating is inside; however, there are a handful of tables outside. Tips: + There is a $3 upcharge for the gluten free bread, but well worth it. They use Schar and the way they toast it with oil makes almost forget it's gluten free. Plus, it does a good job of holding up. +Cash is your friend. They do pass on the credit card service charge (which is becoming a more common occurrence for small businesses, so it's not total out of the norm or unexpected). + There are a handful of parking spots on the side of the building. I went to meet friends for dinner on a Friday night. There was no wait when we arrived at 630pm. Parking is very limited, but after hours, parking available in the bank parking lot across the street. The staff is very friendly and gives great suggestions of items to order. We started with the appetizer dip and it was okay; we did not finish it. We ordered a pasta dish (Marco polo) 2 sandwiches (mother clucker) and a to go order 'feed us carnitas'. I was not impressed with the flavor of the pasta and the meal itself. I may try this place again in the future. Everyone enjoyed their sandwich's and my mom liked her carnitas tacos. The flavor did not impress me this time. It is very cute and appealing. I would describe Du Lit as the modern day Route 66 roadside diner. The menu is full of classics with a twist. I ordered the Smash and Spin burger which was smothered with a yummy, spicy spinach and artichoke dip. I devoured it. My children split an item off the adult menu in lieu of the kids menu. It was the Almost Alfredo pasta dish with big cavatappi pasta with a lovely white sauce and diced corn, broccoli and carrot. The little pieces were perfect for kids that may be less inclined to veggies. The chicken in the dish was cooked properly and nicely seasoned. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seats are covered from the sun. Everything was clean and tidy. I would certainly eat here again but alas I live 40 minutes away. Also, the staff were kind to my kids. A nice little hidden gem! On a road trip we stumbled upon Du Lit and it was a delightful eatery. The menu is expansive with really good choices. We landed on Almost Alfredo and Philly the Kid. Both were very tasty and generous in the portions. We decided to try the plain cheesecake and wow, it was creamy and delicious (I think it was my favorite ). Haley was our server and she really made the visit perfect! If we ever cross paths with Fortville again we will definitely be visiting Du Lit! read more

What a great surprise right here in Fortville Indiana! The owner chef is extremely creative and very comfortable to talk with. We visited in a Wednesday afternoon and he was not only our chef but he waited our table as well and spent quite a bit of time talking with us, describing his dishes, how he makes them and more. It was a pleasure to meet him and even more so to eat his food. His dishes are not traditional but they are a plate of flavor ready explode in your mouth. Both of our plates were excellent and well worth our stop and the more than reasonable price that we paid His menus is quite interesting with 4 distinct sections: starters, wrapped, plates meals and Nudel We both selected from the Nudel section The Acadia was great. Just a touch of kicking Cajun seasoning, definitely not too hot but plenty enough to know it's there. Very satisfying My wife had Almost Alfredo. I love the name.... She lived it, a very different take what we 'expected' even though he was very clear it is not chicken Alfredo. This is becoming a favorite spot to go to for afternoon meals. The ambiance of the place is very different from the previous bakery. It looks elegant yet very comfortable to be in. It's small but that makes it cozy and enjoyable. Run, do not walk, to Du Lit While we had eaten dinner at Du Lit previously (and really enjoyed it), I had never tried dessert. Today, there was a post about Lemon Raspberry cheesecake and I absolutely love cheesecake and lemon bars.... Well, the BF went in to get me one slice and walked out with 6 slices. Like a kid in a candy shop, I had to immediately have a little bit of each. MY GOD. The Reese's, Lemon Raspberry and OG with cherries are all heavenly! My SO chose well ... he loved the Steak in my Heart entree which was incredibly thick and cooked to perfection. It might have been the best steak he's ever had... high praise indeed coming from him! I enjoyed the noodle dish with cavatappi topped with pulled pork. I really liked the triple jam cider ... not local but midwestern. I have wanted to try DuLit since it opened and finally made it i. For lunch. Why did it take me so long? Food was outstanding. I had the Cowboy smash and my friend had Philly the kid. Mine was delicious and i would highly recommend, but my friends, SUPERB! Rivals any Philly cheesesteak. In fact, I would say better. No cheese whiz! Instead the chefs own house-made cheese sauce. The interior has developed into a one of a kind interior, that is modern, clean and refreshing. So different from the regular restaurant style. Especially for small town Fortville. Small and DELICIOUS!!!!! The seats aren't wide enough for my behind, but the food is AMAZING! We ordered the Hook and Cleaver and lettuce head. Holy cow the steak was incredible with a super savory seasoning and the salmon with skin was to perfection. We also had the avocado ranch dressing and so so so good! The ladies were busy and not around when you need them( waited for 10+ mins for the bill). We don't know their situation, but when they did come around, they were extremely friendly. I would definitely recommend this little (and a little loud) place. They have a big outside seating are too. Also, the Circle City Red8 wineis perfect paring for steak. Enjoy! Lacie was an attentive, friendly and knowledgeable server who represented Du Lit well. She was able to answer our questions about the menu. My dish Run for Mexico was served hot and in a timely fashion. My moist chicken breast was perfectly and thoroughly seasoned. The combination of meat along with the flavorful peppers and rice were complementary to each other. My friend, who has Celiac disease, dined on the gluten-free plate Yellowbelly. The service was so good that my friend and I had to grab dessert. We also appreciated the personal touch by the owner Preston who came outside to greet us while we were dining al fresco. I was on my way to meet someone and ran in here hoping to grab something quickly. I have never been here before and was asking how quickly I could get something to gi. Server Nova was very helpful. She advised a few choices that would be quickest and asked the chef to prepare it right away as I was in a hurry. They have dairy free and gluten-free options as well as vegetarian. I got a Philly sandwich with tortilla chips and cheese dip. It was supposed to be dairy free, but honestly, either that was the best dairy free cheese I've ever had, or they accidentally gave me real dairy. The chips were slightly stale. The sandwich was good. I would've like just a little more meat and onions, but the taste was very good. Im highly sensitive to dairy so i have been expieriencing some effects so again dont know if i got dairy free or if i communicated it clearly, as I mentioned I was the one in a hurry so I will assume it was my error. I noticed construction blocking the front entrance, so be prepared to go around back. There is not a lot of parking. There is another restaurant behind this one, so I guess they use the same parking space. I am not familiar with this area at all, so i might be missing something. I asked about they alcohol situation since I was doing a review. The young lady advised that they do not have alcoholic beverages right now, but the owner was currently at a town hall meeting, and the liquor liscence is one of the topics, so they are working on that. There are about 6 tables inside and 4 outgrowth on the patio. Looks like a nice little casual place that I would like to revisit when I have time to sit down and relax and enjoy. read more

I've been to Du Lit three times in the last three weeks and the food was excellent each time. I fell for their salmon with rice and asparagus the first time I went there and can't stop ordering it. It's perfectly prepared and the rice and asparagus is also delicious. My wife gets a Mexican meal and loves it. We highly recommend Du Lit. They don't have an extensive wine and beer selection, but there's enough variation to keep me happy. The waitresses are typically young girls, but they do a very good job with the service. It's a smaller restaurant and can get very crowded in the evenings. Du Lit is worth the wait, however. read more

We celebrated our anniversary here. First time to eat here. We had the Breaking Bread as an appetizer. Hubby had the Steak in my Heart. I had the Yellow-Belly. The seasoning on each was excellent. We finished up with the blue berry cheesecake. Cheesecake had a twist. Instead of blueberry topping, the blueberries were mixed into the cheesecake. Excellent twist. Service was great. The owner greeted us. And checked on us after dinner was served. He wanted to make sure we were pleased with everything. We will definitely visit again. I wish I would have taken pictures because this was an excellent meal. I got the salmon, asparagus and upgraded my veggie to the caprese salad. It was the best salmon and asparagus I've ever gotten in a restaurant. And the caprese salad was so good I literally picked up my bowl to drink the rest of the dressing.
