My first impression of Castleton Square: This mall has season better days. I'd bet this place was hopping 10-15 years ago. Now, while there are still some good stores, it is showing its age and there are seemingly more local businesses than national chains. The food court has decent dining options. We opted for Chick-fil-A. There's a play area for kids, too, which was nice for killing time -- but, like the mall, could use a refresh. Overall, Castleton is a serviceable mall, but nothing special. read more

If you want your 2000s mall nostalgia then Castleton Square is your place. I love the food court. If you have kids it's great because of the play area too! There is pizza, Mexican, sandwiches, Asian, burgers, a healthier option, boba, and even Chick-fil-A. Don't forget to walk in front of Macy's for a Cath Coffee! It might seem strange to do an update review without actually changing my rating, however, a combination of today's visit and it having been over five years since my last review both lead me to revisiting this review. While I've always had a strange affection for Castleton Square, the truth is these closed-air malls are dying out in favor of mixed usage malls and open-air concepts. Fashion Mall is still around, of course, and Greenwood Park is still here even if it has done at least a modest renovation toward open-air. Washington Square? It might as well be dead. Lafayette Square? The same. Hamilton Town Center is pretty rocking, however, it largely is an open-air concept. Fashion Mall is great for luxury items and a food court vastly superior to Castleton. Both malls have movie theaters - while I love Landmark, I actually give the nod to AMC Castleton here. Castleton is still a Simon mall. It continues to have major spots vacant including the front of the mall spot recently vacated by Forever 21. This is an older mall that still has sporadic issues with violence, a fairly strong IMPD presence, and a woeful lack of major draw retailers. JC Penney is still here despite rumors of bankruptcy, though the store itself is so dirty you'll likely need a tetanus shot when you leave. Von Maur is fine. You've got Macy's with a Starbucks in it, though Cath Coffee is local and has a kiosk in the mall (the old Starbucks). The food court still has a Chick-fil-A, a Luca Pizza, and a handful of others. McAlister's still has a spot with an exterior entrance. It looks like a Mexican joint has taken the old Johnny Rocket's spot that has seen several other restaurants quickly fail. I'd recommend coming in from East 82nd Street as streets are smoother. East 86th Street is getting some attention (finally), but you'll still likely need an alignment from driving it (if you go to Costco or Saraga you know this). Parking is typically abysmal here. People argue over ADA spots (Seriously, I was yelled at today for moving too slowly to vacate one). There's a tension in the mall that seems palpable and I actually felt a sense of relief when I left. My favorite spots? The movie theater, of course. I do still like the McAlister's. I'm a fan of Earthbound Trading Company off the food court. I like FYE, Yankee Candle, and Spencer Gifts. There's a Native American goods shop that's pretty cool, as well. Four Seasons Florist is a nice spot and Grade A Tattoos has a place here. Boss Battle Games has a $15 entry and you can play all day. Lego still has a great and popular spot here. There's an exterior sign indicating Hobby Lobby is joining the mall soon - I think around the long vacant Sears spot. Accessibility is pretty decent here. Main doors are automatic. Accessible/ADA parking is plentiful (though frequently misused and nearly never enforced). The main accessible restrooms are near the food court. I'd still like to see this mall get a more practical retailer - Hobby Lobby may fill that need soon. I noticed today that there's almost an international marketplace vibe starting to happen here with a more diverse clientele and a few more indie shops noticed. Ultimately, I didn't really enjoy shopping here like I have in the past. I didn't hate it, but I didn't leave thinking "I can't wait to go back." Instead, I noticed the tension and I really felt like I'd much rather go to free-standing or open-air spots than be immersed in this tense, uncomfortable shopping experience. I'd probably go 2.5 if I could. I can't. 2 feels a little low and considering there's still some great shopping to be had here I'll stick with a 3-star rating with a slight disclaimer that Castleton Square sure seems like it's headed downhill. read more

I love this mall it's very well-rounded and have all the stores that you need!! I love their AKIRA store so happy I was able to shop in person!! Since it's no stores where I live. Their Von Mour store is very nice with nice shoe section and athletic wear. All the stores I shopped had amazing customer service!! Good easy payment process and good attitudes. Nice food court !! First time coming here, i was looking for a place to check out while I was in the area. This Place was a great stop, this place had a great mix of big box stores and other name brand stores as well as smaller shops. Upon entering, this all was very reminiscent going to Summit Mall in Fairlawn Ohio. It feels like the same exact layout and many aspects were the same giving me the illusion of deja vu. The mall is at least 90% occupied, it's also really large so it's perfect for mall walkers. Great finds that I saw at the mall were in arcade, food places I've never seen before in the food court. Great big box stores like Dicks and Von Maur. Mall was also very clean too with fair renovations. Spent a good couple hours here. Overall, great mall worth checking out. read more

I came to Castleton Square to pick up some hiking boots at American Eagle Outfitters, and was able to walk around the mall to get a feel of what stores were in the mall. I do not go to shopping malls anymore because I mainly shop online for what I need and can get it cheaper. Castleton Square is a nice mall with a good variety of high end stores and a food court, but from the outside, it does look run down and old, but this is an old shopping mall. The interior of the mall was nice with fluorescent lighting and kiosks all over the mall. Nothing else really much to say to be honest with you. It is a decent shopping mall and you can find whatever you need here at Castleton Square. read more

I just realized that I could review my experience with a massage chair located across from the eye doctor's office, where they graciously exchanged my bill to pay the $2 for 7 minutes. The experience felt adequate as with my small statute, it was difficult to get all of the areas massaged as I had wanted but was aware of its capabilities. I would upgrade to the $5 for the 19-minute massage. There are 4 chairs available in this mall near the Forever 21 store. Depending on the time of day, it is sometimes very difficult to find a parking spot at this mall. So, once you are parked, it is not best to change spots to get to your nearest mall store. A mall that is in desperate need of an overall. Many wings of the mall had closed shops and people who sat at the carts pestered people to the point of borderline harassing. Some cute stores are there anchored by big box chains adorn the main corridors. This mall certainly has been plagued by teens running around shooting up the area. However when I went it was all smiles and everyone seemed up beat. I'd still return. This is a mall reminiscent of the 80's and 90's. If you want that feel I would recommend dropping by. read more

I had an opportunity to visit Castleton Square. I was sorely disappointed with what I saw. Trash cans brimming with discarded waste. Floors that had not been cleaned in the last several days, perhaps even weeks. I saw employees from various retail stores with callous disregard for customers. I was shocked and appalled. The world is changing, C19 opened up a new form of disregard and those doors don't seem to be closing. With that said, change can happen at anytime, as long as we are willing to move with the pace of change. I have hope for this location. Faith that the property owners and property management care enough about the location to start at ground zero and work up from there. I will keep the faith that change is coming. read more

Castelton square isn't my favorite mall, but I don't have anything specifically negative to say about it. While I love to support small local businesses, the mall has become sort of a flea market, and aside from my go-to stores, which I preferably enter from their outside doors, I don't prefer to visit this mall. A ton of vacancies have changed the overall experience of the mall, and again, aside from H&M, I would likely order online. Again-- nothing negative to say. Just not my favorite mall. read more

My daughter and I visited Castleton Square on 5/1/22 in an effort to locate a few items for prom - shoes and a "backless bra situation"! We started in Macy's then made our way to Rack Room Shoes. We then popped into J.C. Penny, Akira, Aerie, Windsor and finally Charlotte Russe. In Windsor, we were able to find some boob tape, but the shoes we liked weren't available in the size we needed. I always feel like they are understaffed in this store, but they were still helpful and polite. In Charlotte Russe, they had a buy one, get one free sale on shoes. It was very close to closing time, so the staff seemed to have punched out mentally already. They were huddled in twos, gossiping and counting the minutes until they could close the gate, which they'd already pulled halfway down. One associate saw an item on the floor and as she bent over to pick it up she exclaimed "b*@$%&s are trifling!" I knew then and there that I was ready to go. My daughter found a pair of shoes that she liked, so I picked out a pair for the deal. I should mention that my receipt showed her pair at full price and mine rang for $1 (not free). I asked about the availability in a particular size of one of the backless, adhesive bras they had and was told that everything they have is on the floor. She seemed sincere, but I did wonder if she just didn't want to look because it was the end of the day. After paying for our purchase, I scurried over to Hot Topic, but then decided that I did not want to have to rush to make my selection (I wanted to use my store bucks from my last purchase before they expired), so I turned around and left. Our last stop was the food court. Maki of Japan is an long-time favorite of mine and almost every time I visit Castleton Square Mall, I have to stop by. I ordered three plates for myself, my daughter and my boyfriend. My daughter and I got the teriyaki chicken with veggies and fried rice ( I got extra sauce) and my boyfriend had the teriyaki shrimp and chicken with veggies and noodles. They give you a lot of food! I ate on mine for two days and my boyfriend didn't finish his; he said it was too heavy. read more

So, when it comes to evaluate and rate any mall, there are six factors considered by shoppers/visitors that affect the mall's success: comfort, diversity, luxury, mall essence, entertainment and convenience. Speaking of Castleton Square mall is very interesting considering the age of the mall as it has been situated in the north-east of the city for the last five decades as stated in their website. Honestly, I was shocked and disappointed when I visited this mall. This shopping hub is considered the largest in the state of Indiana. The diversity and mall essence take you back to 80's & 90's eras. The general ambiance is dull. Moreover, the variety of clothing in the big fashion departments is sort of degraded comparing to other locations of the same one's. I just wonder how retailers in this mall can make it to the profit. To me, the only thing worth the trip is the movie theater. Not to be confused with Castleton Triangle, Castleton Rhombus, Castleton Dodecahedron, or Castleton Parallelogram. A good, expensive mall for the rich burbs. Definitely a fun place for people-watching and evening shopping (and expensive movies) on weekends. There are lots of cute people walking around here too, as you might expect in the Indy burbs. I like that it's very busy like malls were intended to be. With many malls these days, it's not the case. I think it's a testament to this part of Indy being so rich and suburban, that it can properly support a Mall and all the fancy stores within. The movie theatre's popularity helps things, I'm sure. My fave store in this mall is the sexy Forever 21. There's a Chatime Bubble Tea inside this Mall - surprisingly the only chain Bubble Tea location of any kind in greater Indy. It's not great, but at least it exists. They also have the Macy's with what seems like the most enormous, endless floor space I've ever seen. I've seen a ton of castles, but Castleton is one of the better Malls in Indiana. read more

Knocking this down to two stars as the in-the-hallway vendors really are getting out of hand. As I'm just walking around and exploring the mall, I see all of the hallway vendors pushing products on people just passing by. Shouting at people, shoving business cards in their faces. I even got accosted asking to take some stupid survey. What? This mall is plenty busy and I'm sure Simon is making money hand-over-fist. They don't need to have stupid crap like this in the mall. I kind of get the sense that this isn't happening at Greenwood or The Fashion Mall. read more

I've been coming to this mall since I can remember and it's disappointing to see the decline. The traffic is really terrible and parking can be a nightmare depending on the time you come shop. The restrooms are always dirty. Unfortunately I'm not sure there are any clean restrooms in this mall at this point. My kids enjoy coming to the play area and there are still some solid stores here. The food court has a nice selection but I always have trouble finding a clean table to sit and eat. read more

This mall has a ton of stores to choose from! It's a nice inside mall. The parking lot usually is very packed and busy. I try to park over by Sears and go in that way. It's an easier side to get in and usually not that busy. It has a nice food court, with a great kid play area for kids. There are also pac-man and arcade games throughout the food court. That's pretty cool! I think it has a great selection of stores. It's not my first mall choice, but it's not the worst either. read more

This is my "home" mall as I call it! This has always been the mall my friends and I have gone to since being in middle school! That has not changed to this day. I love the location of the mall. It's in a central location with a lot of other businesses to choose from around the mall. I am sure this helps some of the smaller businesses in the area. With that being said some times traffic can be a little crazy and parking is ALWAYS tough. I am a creature of habit so if I'm alone I park at the entrance where H&M and Forever 21 is. The rows are one way so I think that makes parking a bit more tricky, but does also guarantee that you get the spot if you are first in line. If I come with my mom, we park at the Macy's entrance which I do think is a little easier to park, but I don't care to walk all the way through Macy's to get to the rest of the mall. I love the amount and variety of stores they offer. With this variety I do believe it meets people with different needs and financial status. Some stores have been there for years, while some come and go. I do love that they changed the location for forever 21. Its easier to gain access to, as well as being a bigger space than the previous location. I feel safe with the amount of security that is visible. I love that they have an information desk directly in the middle of the mall, I have never utilized this service but could be good for someone that is new to the area, or is just visiting from out of town. The only downside to this mall, I'm sure like others are the vendors in the middle of the walk ways. It's difficult to enjoy shopping or chatting with friends when you constantly are interrupted by those trying to sell you a product you aren't interested in. read more

With the holidays approaching and the center changing their hours back to "normal", please be mindful of those working and trying to monitor their stores safety for themselves, their staffs as well as the patrons. It's highly discouraging seeing individuals rooms the halls of Castleton without following the guidelines listed on the website (specifically masks) especially when those individuals are sporting their Simon Property work apparel. I used to LOVE malls. However, these days I find them clustered with people buying shit they don't need (mostly teenagers). The Castleton Square Mall is fairly organized and clean. Most often you'll find me there for one of two reasons: 1.) Aveda School (one the most affordable and fun haircuts/salons around town) and 2.) Chatime for Taiwanese boba tea (check in on Yelp for a deal)- it's really bear that we have this business in Indy- there are only a few locations of this Asian chain throughout the US. Note: parking can be tricky (be prepared to weave the aisles to find a spot). Second note: some of the best ethnic food in Indy can be found in the strip mall surrounding the Castleton Square Mall. Talk about a covid crockpot. I unfortunately had to come in to purchase items for a funeral that weren't available online (otherwise I wouldn't be here) and I won't be returning anytime soon. Until I can shop and feel safe I will not be returning here. There is security roving on segways but never once did I see them reminding guests to put on masks. I ALWAYS leave 4-5 star reviews. I'm almost shocked that I'm leaving a one star review. I'm mostly disappointed in the selfishness of the mall customers more than the mall. Had a great Santa experience with a 15 month old. They give you time to get acquainted with Santa for a few minutes while they finish up with the person in line I'm front of you. Makes Santa seem less scary. They took a dozen pics and we could choose what we wanted. Several packages available including digital download. Great Santa experience! Castleton Square is a mall that seems to always be very busy. My main reason for the visit is the Macy's. This Macy's always has good fashions for men. The mall in general is not what it used to be, and you are starting to see a lot of new independent store that for me brings the dynamic down. The independent never have the marketing budget to make there stores look like a chain retailer. So the windows alway look lackluster and unappealing. The bad part of that is also this always seems to happen to malls right before they become irrelevant. With the area having more and more closed strip center you have to wonder what is the future for Castleton Square. I know that online shopping to taking its toll on retail brick and mortar stores but to me they still serve a purpose. read more
