I've watched over the years the steady decline of diverse inventory of department stores. This store is no different. I maybe go in Von Maur once a season, and it is even more noticeable at least to me, when you visit a store in longer intervals. They do have excellent eye-catching merch displays and still focused on upscale dressing and seemed like every section had a sales associate to help and areas were upkept. They are targeting heavily toward the older higher income demographics. It is especially telling when you listen to their choice of piano music in them. I would think a salesclerk would go a bit bonkers hearing taped renditions over and over of sickeningly sweet instrumental earworm inducing oldies all day long. I'm surprised this mall chain has lasted, as it hasn't really changed with the times. As times get ever more difficult with less to spend in this way, it will be interesting to see how this chain reacts. read more

I don't like to shop but love shopping at Von Maur. The staff is professional and super helpful and friendly. They gift wrap beautifully and will send packages for no charge. The merchandise is high end, name brand. They carry men's, women's and children's clothing and shoes and a small section of seasonal household decor. Yesterday, I bought several gifts. The store was decorated with a pianist playing Christmas music. I found exactly what wanted and an associate carefully took the information for wrapping and sending. I saw several other things I wanted, including Christmas outfits for my granddaughters. I left without buying, but later in the day decided my girls needed those outfits. I called the store and Deidreana found the outfits and put them on hold until I got back over there. The outfits were even on sale. Returns/exchanges are easy. They put gift receipts in each package. The store is always immaculate and has lovely restrooms. There is plenty of parking around the store, although parking fills during the holiday shopping season. I recommend and will probably go back this week myself. read more

Probably the nicest store in the Castleton area. I like that it is bright, has live piano music, an open floor plan, and very helpful associates. Oh, Von Maur, you get me with your classical music and pretty displays and free wrapping services and wonderful customer service. I do end up spending way too much here, but I enjoy my experience doing so. Sale racks are great too and get replaced frequently so worth a run through when you're passing through the store. Selection varies widely so some days, I can't find anything and other days, I spend $500 but that's part of the fun of stopping in because sections are small enough that new stuff is frequently coming in. Von Maur has so much to offer from name brand shoes, to clothes, home decor and even toys for kids and so much more. My favorite store at Castleton Mall! Pretty sure they have the best staff and customer service in the entire mall. The sales staff are never pushy or come after you when browsing, but if you need their assistance they will take care of you right away. Yes things are very expensive and mostly designer brands, but check out the sale racks. I often can find a dress, nice pants, or top for under $15. Everything in the store I find very trendy, relevant, and appropriate, which I cannot say about all the other stores in the mall. Not with a dear friend who had got a birthday gift in April and it's September now. My elderly friend had lost the receipt but the cashier was so kind and helpful. Her name is Yvonne and she went way beyond anything I could have imagined. She had to go to website to find the item, then checked the date gift was purchased and then used my credit card to find in system. I don't think there are many out there that would have done this. This feels like a quiet haven in the otherwise chaos of Castleton Mall. Every time we have been inside, it is nearly empty. I think this store would be better suited inside the Fashion Mall at Keystone. I went there to find a bra. The woman working was very helpful, measuring me and providing several options. I was surprised they really had a limited selection of lingerie. The bra that I purchased was $68 (thank goodness for the gift card I had!). This is pretty expensive even for a high end bra. I would love to shop here more, but the prices are just so exorbitant. The ambiance is lovely though. The calmest place in Castleton Mall. A handsome pianist who is really talented will play while you shop among what isn't a big selection, but is well chosen. One of only places in town you can buy a fascinator in the spring. Designer bags like LV and Kate Spade. Very pretty gowns and cocktail dresses...all the things you need for gracious living. Baffled at the inhospitable customer service I received today. It was as if I was an inconvenience asking to try on a pair of shoes and then when I liked them, asking if I could buy a pair that weren't already obviously destroyed. Von Maur used to be comparable to Nordstrom and I always found beautiful product with genuine help from the sales associates until today. If you were so opposed to letting me order another pair in my size from another store, why wouldn't you have offered a discount or recommend I just go elsewhere at the very least? Very disappointed and frightened that I might have my credit card info stolen and never receive the pair of shoes I "ordered" (with "no receipt able to be given") from the uninviting sales rep. Fingers crossed I don't get screwed over for being honest, loyal, and respectful and still ordering through Von Maur rather than going straight to the designer like my gut is now telling me I should've... #yikes (I'll update this review as soon as I find out!! What a dump! been a longtime since I ventured out into the hell that is the Mall. I hate Castleton! I was with a friend and we shopped all day, the longest I've done in years and my personal consensus stays the same..I hate the mall. Von Maur sits there looking like Value city. The best thing about Von Maur is the piano guy! Hardly any sales people and the ones they have look like they just rolled in from the corn field and the lingerie department, it's about as big as my kitchen. I'll second Sarah A's opinion of Von Maur. I usually don't go there because the whole piano-playing atmosphere feels a little hoighty-toighty to me. And, being the self-proclaimed cheapskate that I am, I think I can usually find the same stuff elsewhere at a better price. However, I had to go to the mall a few days ago for some finishing touches for my Halloween costume and happened to park outside of Von Maur, so I had a gander at several of their departments whilst walking through the store to get into, and out of, the mall. Like Sarah A, I too was very wooed by their shoe department-- a great selection of cute and trendy shoes. I didn't take the time to try on or buy anything, but I wanted to. I stopped by the perfume counter because I noticed Gwen Stefani's new Harajuku Lovers perfume collection on display. I was able to smell all the different scents and several other perfumes without getting bombarded by pushy salespeople. I usually avoid perfume counters altogether because I don't want to deal with them. Thank you, Von Maur perfume counter ladies for not harassing me and giving me the opportunity to smell that delicious new line of perfume! I liked the junior's department. I'm 25 and found several items that I would wear -- there wasn't a plethora of teeny-bopper crap. It might be a function of our tanking economy, but there were quite a few racks of really cute, not dated, clearance-sale clothing and accessories. There were some really fun, casual dresses and tops. I ended up walking out with three costume jewelry necklaces and one shirt, and only spent a smidge over $20! I'm definitely not in need of "labels," nor do I wear mens' clothes, so maybe that's why I love Von Maur. Every time I go to Castleton mall, I also swing through here to ogle at the shoes. Oh. my. God, the shoes. They have a very nice selection of high heels/dress shoes, some of which are quite unique. Near the entrance to the mall itself, there's a section of beautiful gowns which I could never afford and have no reason to wear but always drool over anyway. The "junior" section (I guess; I don't really know what else to call it) is replete with prom dresses for which I certainly am too old and cute everyday dresses for which I am not. It can be hard to find age-appropriate clothing when you're in your 20s, as a lot of stuff is either too teeny-bopperish or too staid. But there can be good finds in this store. The lingerie department is rather boring, in my experience, but there are cute hats and purses to be had over by the piano. Bonus points to them also for hiring a live pianist most days. read more

Von Maur is easily my favorite shop within the Castleton Mall. It's a fairly large location with a great selection of products. Every time I find myself browsing the shoe department, I am greeted by a friendly sales associate that is helpful without being aggressive. Recently when buying a new pair of Hunter rain boots I couldn't decide on a style or color and the sales girl who was assisting me probably brought out around 15 different pairs for me to try on until I decided on which ones I wanted. It's always a pleasant experience because Von Maur has a beautiful grand piano in the center of the store and a pianist playing throughout the day. It's such a welcomed change after walking through the mall and being subjected to listening to the same song that you've heard on the radio 3 times while driving to the mall. One of my first shopping excursions at this store was a few years back, I was looking for a dress for a party I was attending and after browsing the sales rack, I stumbled upon this cute sequin a line dress. The only problem was several sequins were noticeably missing. I took the dress up to the counter and asked the associate if this was the only dress in this style that she had. Knowing it was on sale I knew it was a long shot. She confirmed that it was the only dress at this location that they had but could check to see if another store had the dress in my size. After calling around, there were no stores in the area with this dress, but what happened next was truly amazing. One of their locations had the dress in New York but was also missing sequins. After retrieving her manager, they called their seamstress and offered to repair the dress by taking sequins off of one of the dresses and adding them to the other to replace the missing sequins and ship it to my house when it was finished, free of charge. It was delivered with a thank you card to my house within a week. The dress was only around $30 and for the level of service I received, it is something I have never forgotten. And lastly, Desiree at the Lancôme counter is awesome! I was browsing some products this past weekend and without the usual sales tactics of pressuring you into buying products she simply explained what they had to offer and let me try a host of products before I decided on what I wanted. Added bonus, they have promotions fairly regularly that offer a gift with purchase. It's a great way to sample products before committing. I LOVE the shoe department at Von Maur. I always find the shoes that I want, in the sizes that I need, and for the price that I want to pay. Even if the shoes or boots are not on sale, Von Maur does not steal from its' customers by charging 25 - 28% or more in interest. They divide our purchases into equal payments and allow us to pay on installment as it should be for most working people. I also love the fact that they will gift wrap and deliver your package(s) at no cost to you. I enjoy shopping and Von Maur makes shopping a pleasant and fun activity for me. P.S. Von Maur has truly perfected the upscale department store formula. The sales people don't push you around, but when you need help they will do whatever they can to assist. The brands here are great as well. A good mix of mid range and upscale designers with great prices. Really terrible customer service in the shoes department. I needed to buy a pair of shoes for my brother for a wedding. I picked out a pair and asked for the right size. I had my boyfriend tried it on to make sure it would fit. I then stood in line and was ready to pay. One of the male associates came out of the back and totally ignore the fact I was standing in line. He went around to check on all the customers on the floor while I stood right in front of the register with my wallet out. He finally came back to the register, and I thought finally I can get out of here. WRONG! He greeted an older lady behind me, and the lady just stepped right in front of me. WOW...REALLY?!? He did not offer any apologies for my wait and rung up that lady. I didn't mind the wait but the fact that he didn't even acknowledge me was plain rude and disrespectful.
