Clay Terrace is an open-air shopping center/mall that I frequent. There are lots of shops, including but not limited to, DSW, Dick's Sporting Goods, Whole Foods, Old Navy, Bath & Body Works, Soma, Moe's Southwest Grill, Pies & Pints, Hand and Stone, Sur La Table and Kona Grill. There are too many to name them all. The ease of convenience is one of the main reasons that I like it. I can run several errands all at once. The overall experience has been positive for me while shopping here. The sales and service representatives are all friendly and helpful, and the center is well-maintained and clean. They even have umbrellas available for use via the honor system, on rainy days. I like that there are high-end options mingled with basic options as well. read more

Clay Terrace is my go-to mall. At times, it has struggled to gain and retain tenants, but I think it has a phenomenal line up of popular brands - many of which have locations at the nearby Fashion Mall but decided there was value to open a Carmel location. A few personal favorites: Athletic Annex, Bath and Body Works, Dry Goods, Dick's Sporting Goods, DSW, lululemon, Old Navy and Warby Parker. Not to mention, the dining options like Cafe Patachou, Upland Brewing, and more! Clay Terrace always has great events and programming, too - from summer concerts to trick-or-treating and visits with Santa. My only complaint is parking. There is limited - and highly coveted - parking in front of the stores, and most often you'll need to park in the larger lots in the back. On a busy weekend or during the holidays, it can get especially busy. read more

Clay Terrace is a really great place to walk and shop... I do wish there were a few more "grab and go" type restaurants other than just Jimmy John's but there are a great handful of sit-down options. Game Stop, Old Navy, Loft, DSW, Dicks and more... all great places to shop. Nice vibe and great pedestrian crosswalks with the lights so cars don't mow you down. Security at Clay Terrace is unprofessional and completely lacking in proper training. Today, a guard approached my barely open car window and threw a ticket inside without saying a word. His hand hit the window, and when I asked what the ticket was for and who I could speak to, he drove off. That's not how enforcement works--that's blatant disrespect and a refusal to be held accountable. The reason? I share a car with someone who works here. That's it. I was there as a customer, shopping in my own free time. The mall has a policy that employees aren't allowed to park in the front, but they've made zero effort to properly assess who is actually in the car or why it's parked there. When I explained I was just shopping, the guard said, "Well, the employee is getting you in trouble." That response is not only dismissive, it highlights how flawed and lazy this enforcement is. The legitimacy of this policy is questionable, especially when it's applied this carelessly. There's no verification, no accountability, just an assumption based on a license plate. These tickets pile up and get sent to CPD, even when the vehicle is being used legally by someone who isn't an employee. This particular guard has been targeting the employee who shares this car for months, issuing tickets regardless of who is behind the wheel. It's personal, and it's distasteful. Let's be honest, he would not have thrown that ticket or driven off if I were older, a man, or someone he felt he had to answer to. It was clearly an abuse of perceived power. Clay Terrace should be held responsible for allowing this kind of behavior. At the Halloween concert, we were told by a black female security to move our chairs off the grass. There were no signs saying not to. Sice I'm blonde with blue eyes, it felt very racially motivated, especially since shortly after we moved, other chairs appeared. Next time I'm taking her picture and a picture of the area in question, and contacting an attorney. Yes, I have the money to pay for one. read more

How do you review a mall? I mean, they try to something for everyone thus can't please everyone. Each store should be reviewed. You can search for the stores to see if they have what you like. They seem to have a good mix of clothing stores, general merchandise stores and restaurants. I like that the mall has general, public use umbrellas should a summer pop up shower occur. It's well lit with flashing lights at the cross walks with raised tarmac to slow drivers down who speed through the center of the mall. There is mix use building here too housing corporate offices. They have a lot of green spaces, a play area for children, a park to take your Jimmy John's for a picnic and a dog park. The mall has plenty of parking spaces, even with the holiday rush, and a J1772 electric pay for charging station near Whole Foods. As for stores I frequent here: I'm a sucker for the Lululemon "pop up" store that has been open for close to two years and rumored to be moving permanently across the street. I also patronize Sur la Table for all my kitchen needs. I frequent Whole Foods as well. When my son was younger, I was always in Dick's buying something for sports or camping. read more

Clay Terrace - Green space at Clay Terrace - Shopping Centers Near Me - Carmel, Indiana

Clay Terrace is my favorite upscale shopping center in the local area. The mall has been opened for over ten years but still feels new every time I stop by. This is not a covered mall but an outdoor mall. The grounds and storefronts are always pristine win a parklike setting. The stores are mostly higher end. The restaurants are the best and there is even a grocery and pet store in the mall. Then there is an assortment of clothing, shoe and home decor stores. In the summer, the gardens and common areas are filled with flowers and there is nice decor for the holidays. The mall also hosts interesting events outside at various times. For example they host the Indie arts and Vintage Market a couple times a year outdoors on the green space east of the mall. There is a nice little playground for kids near the east center of the mall with benches for parents to relax. In addition, there are game areas for older kids near the center of the mall and a nice area with tables for people to gather. There is a very unique community feel to the mall. I knock off a star because of traffic flow and parking. Traffic flows in front of the shops and behind the shops and moves to quickly when combined with pedestrian traffic. There is a problem with people using the mall as a cut off between 146 and roads south of the mall creating unnecessary traffic through the mall. The mall developers, Simon, have done a good job of installing pedestrian bumps to reduce traffic speed but that still does not solve the issue. I like to go at off times such as early weekday mornings when I can avoid traffic and get great parking. The mall is accessible with lots of ramps and parking. There are a lot of nice bike racks throughout the mall and a shared bike service. read more

I think I prefer outdoor malls to indoor ones by far. This mall is laid out well and of course has free parking since it's in Carmel. The murals on the walls were pretty cool too. I wasn't familiar with some of the stores but they were pretty cool. We only stopped in a few stores since we were looking for very specific items, but I'd definitely go back just to browse and shop. read more

From my middle school hangout spot to my one-stop shopping spot, this mall has changed with my needs. Shops: Between the regular coupons and deals at DSW, The Loft an American Eagle, I can find about anything I need for a decent price. There are constant sales. New favorite store: Alter'd State. It's hippie-chic clothes, home decorations, jewelry & more. All of my favorite things are from here and it's also a great spot to find gifts for any woman, but it is pricey and not one of the spots where you'll find coupons (although there is a sale room). Food: Corner Bakery, Prodigy Burger (hot new biz), Mitchell's Fish Market, Petit Chou (Patachou's sister biz), Starbucks & more. My favorite time to visit this mall is around the holidays. There's decorations, festive music, a "Santa house" and fun vibes. There's also concerts during the summer and a piano on the sidewalk that begs anyone to play it. read more

Why does the midwest insist on having outdoor malls? Don't they know they're only good for about 4 months out of the year? The wife and I went out to Clay Terrace to check out Old Navy (evidently this one has a maternity section, a very small maternity section). After that failure of an excursion, we decided we'd walk around, and see what else was going on. Sadly, there weren't any stores that I really wanted to check out. Now I'm sure this is just a matter of prefence when it comes to stores, but I really wasn't blown away by the selection of stores. I don't think there was any one shop unique to that area. They do have a cafe patachou out there though I've never actually eaten at one), but other than that, nothing uniques. I also don't like the fact that there isn't a quick way to get there (I'm coming from Fishers). At least the Hamilton Center out in Noblesville is off of 69. Parking is ample, but who cares. Favorite mall in Indy! Great assortment of restaurants, stores, and people watching. I enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and it allows me to park near the store I want to go in instead of having to walk through the whole mall. There is ample parking, and if you're lucky you can get a coveted spot on the front side. Otherwise there is always lots of parking in the back. The new sidewalks and cross walks are great for pedestrians, which I greatly appreciate. They have great events for families during the year and seem to offer good customer service. They even have umbrellas for when it is raining! Easy to navigate, good options, all around a great outdoor mall! read more

Meh. It's not really much of a mall. There are hardly any stores, although I do appreciate that there is a Whole Foods there and a Dick's. I just don't get the outdoor street-style malls that are popping up all over the country. All it does is kill the business that stores get from browsers. Given the option, most people will just park their car right in front of the 1 store that they need to go to, make their single purchase, and then hop in their cars and leave. All the parking should be centralized in a lot which forces shoppers to walk past storefront windows. I was there on a Monday night to have dinner (the street-style mall is not a hindrance to restaurant business) and saw NO ONE walking the sidewalks, although most of the parking spaces were filled. In short, go to Clay Terrace to eat (there is a fine selection of restaurants) or go to the grocery store. read more

There aren't a plethora of stores, but this is a great medium sized outdoor mall to walk around. There are a few restaurants and a Whole Foods that you can enjoy as well! I went on a Friday night and the stores were not crowded - so felt safe enough for Covid times. There are big parking lots behind some store areas. They have some holiday lights up as well to get you in the spirit of things! My favorite store was Sur La Table....I'm sure I'll be back! read more

It's an open air mall that has a variety of mostly chain stores. It's a nicer place to visit than most strip malls and there's some open air dining. I visit in the summer on my bike as a terminus for my excursions on the Monon Trail and there's wi-fi all around. But, it's really a shame that there's a busy street running through it. Why the planners did not route traffic around the perimeter is not so much a mystery instead it can only be judged as a short-sighted major disappointment. It's really bizarre that they designed it this way so that drive-by traffic can see the store-fronts, I suppose. It's crying a shame. I don't live close at all, but always find shopping at Clay Terrace to be a nice experience. It isn't too terribly snooty, but as Betsy A. pointed out, there aren't a whole lot of independent boutiques here and it's definitely not a European or San Francisco shopping experiences. Lots of chain stores like at every Simon mall, but in a much nicer atmosphere since it's all open air. The retailers do cater to a bit of a more upscale clientele, with appearances by White House Black Market, Three Chairs, Indigo Nation, Chico's, etc. but you can also find lots of every-other-Simon-Mall-in-the-area staples: Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, American Eagle, Dick's, etc. I visited today and found items to take home at Sur La Table, Express, Bath & Body Works, DSW and Kirkland's. And they were all good buys. So, if you are looking for affordable items and automatically assume that Clay Terrace isn't for you, you might want to take another look. The retailers all have clearance racks just like at every other location, but you get those good buys in a nicer atmosphere than if you went to Castleton or Greenwood. Parking spaces aren't a problem, and if you are going in the winter and aren't crazy about braving the elements at an outdoor mall, don't be afraid -- you can park pretty close to every store! read more

I have lived in my house for over 13 years. I'm getting so tired of not being able to sit in my backyard any longer, during summer, because of their loud music. For the past two years, they have decided to have concerts and blast their music so loudly. Great place for a stroll on probably half of the days in half of the months in a year here in central Indiana. The other half of the days are either too windy, too rainy, etc.; The other half of the months are either too cold or too hot. Nevertheless, I applaud efforts to get people to get their butts out of their cars and walk outdoors, though most just park in front of the one or two stores they want to visit and walk the ten steps into said stores. There are some specialty stores that you won't find anywhere else around here: Orvis, Merrell, Sur La Table, etc. Honestly, these stores could only make it with the concentration of wealth that exists in Carmel. It's also not a coincidence that Fashion Mall is just across the border on 86th Street. The people watching here is also pretty interesting. Sit outside and watch the people and then go to, say, Castleton Mall or Greenwood Mall and watch the people there. Let's just say the shapes of the people are very different. read more

I enjoy this outdoor shopping center. Beautiful location for a walk and catching some pokemons! Hahahahhaa sooo many pokestops here :P There are so many amazing stores here like Express, American Eagle, Claire's, Old Navy, etc. There are also great stops for food. I think its a good one-stop shopping place for everyone. The layout is like of an outlet mall where each store is laid out in a long straight line and at different stops. Also, parking is not an issue here. You can find space even on weekends. :) I would definitely recommend checking out this place and enjoy the beautiful summer time walks :) read more

I love that Clay Terrace is close by. They have a lot of events and really make it a family friendly place. I also love I can get to Bath and Bodywork and now Yankee Candle without going to Castleton. Parking doesn't seem to be much of an issue with spaces in front of the stores and also ample parking in the back. It really is walk-able and in nice weather I love spending time there with my friends. In the summers they have free movies in the park and also free concerts. I love going and spending time there enjoying these events. I also learned that the Carmel Community Playhouse is there and they have weekend shows and prices aren't bad at all. I can't wait to catch a show. Like I said I love the stores I want to go to are all right there. BBW, Clarks, Charming Charlie, Pier One, and Sur La Table! They also have a ton of eating options from fast food to sit down, and even family friendly. read more

This outdoor mall is perfect for the area! Great dog park and kid park, umbrellas and hand sanitizer all over, and not to mention plenty of awesome restaurants and shops. Even with all the construction happening on Meridian, it seems to still keep busy. It's also easy to bike to from the Monon Trail, so that's a plus! Clay Terrace is somewhere that I enjoy going! Loving the whole set up and stores and also the huge lawn area.

You'd think that, living right around the corner, I would frequent Clay Terrace constantly. On the contrary, my outings here are somewhat few and far between and usually involve Whole Foods, Gelato Da Vinci, Z Gallerie, Pier 1, DSW and Mitchell's Seafood. It seems to me that the mix here overall leans more heavily toward home decor. I do like the concept very much and having plenty of parking at one's disposal does make for a nice outdoor shopping experience - would that it were the same for Carmel's much lauded Arts & Design District. I guess my only real disappointment is that I had hoped from something a little more like some of the european/San Francisco shopping streets I've encountered - you know, more boutique shops with truly unique merch. Would have been great to see, for example, Anthropologie locate its shop here instead of at the Fashion Mall :-) I do enjoy walking around the mall after grabbing a gelato and in the future, plan to actually enter more stores...perhaps I'll end up a CT devotee as well. read more

A really wonderful outdoor mall in Carmel. Great selection of stores. I especially love DSW, Express, New York & Company, & Z Gallerie, just to name a few. They also have all kinds of great restaurants right in the same area. I'm not crazy about all the roundabouts in the mix but Carmel seems to like to fit them in wherever they can. California idea. Indiana execution. I see what they were trying to accomplish but the design falls horribly flat. The fact that cars can drive through, the width of the sidewalks, the outdoor space in general, the position of the stores, the lack of green space, basically the entire architectural layout is lacking. I really think they should of just built a cool mall up here. I feel that it would have been better to have an awesome mall then a mediocre attempt at outdoor shopping. Clay Terrace is a bit of a drive for me, but it's usually worth it. Lots of parking makes for a less stressful shopping spree, and it's not so huge that it's hard to get around. Z Gallerie is a favorite, as is Mitchell's Seafood. Kona Grill has a great corner location with outdoor seating ... and the smells wafting through the air while shopping make it hard not to stop in one of these two favorite restaurants. Another fave, Sur La Table, is a cook/baker's dream. Even though I hate to cook, I do love to bake--so it's fun to peruse the aisles to see all the pots, pans, utensils, and cookbooks I never knew existed. I found the yummiest-smelling kitchen countertop cleaner ever at Sur La Table ... made by Caldrea. Scent is citrus mint ylang ylang. Check it out! read more

Clay Terrace is an outdoor shopping center located in Carmel, IN. Clay Terrace was built as the Indpls area 2nd outdoor shopping center and was a joint venture between Lauth and Simon Property Group. The mall is laid out in a long straight line with a couple buildings sprawling out to the left and right around the center. Clay Terrace Blvd is a road used by everyone that connects Rangeline Rd and 146th St - and is controlled by the City of Carmel. This means there is quite a bit of traffic diving through the center. There is a good mix of shopping with your traditional retail stores (Old Navy, Sunglass Hut, Express) but they also have unique stores like Z Gallery and Orvis. There are also unique restaurants like Kona Grill and Mitchell's Fish Market. I think the mall could use some updates as they have looked the same since they opened over 10 years ago to be able to complete with Hamilton Town Center and the newly renovated Fashion Mall. read more

Nice upscale place. Only downsides are that there aren't too much selection in terms of stores, and it's a junior high kid hangout. Otherwise, nice places to eat and get a snack/coffee, and some good stores to check out. read more
