WM is a place I look "just in case" they might have something I am looking for, not because I know they will have it. I was saddened to see the entire time we were in the store their cashier was looking at her phone. Several other employees were working throughout the store, but apparently this person is ONLY responsible for running the cash register so when she isn't busy, as in the Friday morning we were in the store, she doesn't have to do anything else. Not a good reflection on management or the employee. Please put down the phone and find something productive to do. read more

This is such a fun store to go to. So many discoveries to be had! 5 stars - Food items. They've got such a diverse array of snacks and ingredients here. The last time I went there, I found vegetable broth powder that I thought you could only buy online or in specialty markets. Cool store but some of the cultural areas seem limited and the prices are a bit steep for being a "cost efficient idea". As you work your way around you go thru home goods and furnishings, then food/ snacks in the back, then alcohol, then dining/ kitchen by the check out. Also has a lot of gift and trinkets in the middle. The home area is neat with some cute finds but a bit pricey. $100+ on mirrors and $120 floor mat. The food area seems to be the most diverse, European candies, lots of native Asian soups and noodles, different smoked meats and chips. The vast array of carbonated beverages was neat. The cheese selection was a let down considering the fact that that is such a globally diverse area and they had very little. The wine/ beer has a huge selection of unique varieties. The dining/ kitchen has a lot of cool kitchen gadgets and you can buy silverware by the piece which was neat but could add up quickly. I love Cost Plus! It is great for gifts big and small. It's especially great for buying little nic naks to build gift baskets. I always go here for Christmas shopping. It's great for stocking stuffers and decorations and it's always great for food. They have a good size selection of international foods, candies, drinks, etc. Plus they have a selection of wine, beer, and other alcohol. You really get a variety of things here: food/drinks, furniture, kitchen/dining products, bedding and bathroom goods, cards/gift wrapping, toys, jewelry/clothes, random gifts/goods, etc. It's like a smaller Target, you'll go in just to browse but you'll probably leave with a lot of other things. read more

From the coffee samples at the entry to the rows filled with fun internationally inspired goods like pasta, rugs, mirrors, pillows, beer, wine, dishes, Christmas decor- you name it. Whether I like it or not, I never stroll out empty gander. Although, I will admit sometimes this stirs can be overpriced when you compare it to something similar like TJMaxx. Given its Carmel location along Keystone, it's very accessible and the parking lot makes access even easier. If you're lucky you'll find the clearance section filled with bonus treasures. The back of the store is filled with fun eats and drinks from around the world as well as those that are domestic. This is a great biz for finding wedding and Christmas gifts. What a great find as I was searching for Hancock Fabric while in Carmel. I had no idea at the time World Market was this close in Merchants Square off of E. 116th Street. As I browsed each department I found affordable furniture with love seats, settees, dining tables, side chairs, pub tables, breakfast sets and stools. Many items were available to create a gorgeous tablescape from table linens, dinnerware, silverware, glassware through floral centerpieces. Furniture styles ranged from Mid Century, Industrial Wood & Metal, Rustic and Traditional with something for every room in your home. They carry lots of accent pieces with area rugs, pillows, throws, wall decor and lamps from traditional to urban contemporary. I browsed candles, lanterns, window treatments, outdoor-indoor string lights, Christmas stockings, Halloween candles (black bleeding candles, skulls, crows), and flameless candles. I enjoyed the coffee and tea section with adorable teapots. I ran across affordable beers and wine from $10-$20. In the same area are chips, serving bowls, cups, kitchenware, and barware. Items to build upon or compliment your current party decor. Cooking & baking, party and entertaining essentials, kitchen tools and storage are also plentiful. I ended up purchasing quite a few things I actually needed for an upcoming event which made the drive worth it. All we have are mental models, viewed through the warped lenses of who and what we are. All we have are memories, moments forever lost to time as we ourselves are eventually lost to time. But most of all, all we have is each other, here and now. When my wife and I first began dating, we used to stop by a Cost Plus World Market, usually to sample am interesting beverage. I'm always thrifting and searching shops for the most unique things at affordable prices, so this place hit it off for me. My recent purchase included a cast iron teapot ($20), THE cutest owl cookie jar ($13), some Digestive biscuits ($3/pack), and a couple mason jars ($1.50/jar). For specialty items like these, I would normally have to order online and pay shipping. Not anymore! My first impression of the World Market was from their website which seemed affordable and too good to be true. Well, when I figured out that there was a location in Carmel, I made it my mission to peep it out for some groovy house wares. Not only do they have affordable décor and kitchenware, but they have a world food and wine section that has little drops of affordable heaven in it. Two words: English. Biscuits. Rob converted me to English style biscuits, which is basically a slightly sweet cookie that gets dipped into English tea. When we recently went to England, we actually went to the grocery store to stock our suitcases with packs of biscuits because they're so expensive in the states. Well, now that I've found them to be affordable and available in Indy AND I don't have to order them online, I'm a very happy camper. They have some great, sturdy furniture that looks like it came out of a magazine spread, but a bit too overpriced for me. Maybe later, when I get a real job. Dark wood kitchen tables with bench seating, very rustic with that warm, worn-in look. I was uneasy about how many throw pillows they have in here though. I'll admit right up front that I shop here mainly for one thing: the chocolate and candy section. World Market must have the most extensive collection of imported chocolate and candies in the metro area. Not exactly cheap, but then again, not too expensive either. Apart from the usual Lindor balls and such, the real finds here include lots of varietal, fair-trade and unusual flavored chocolates. Some items are World Market private label and others are from names well-known to we chocoholics: Cadbury, Cote d'Or, Ritter, etc. Some suggestions: the WM coconut curry and chai flavors, the Brix dark chocolate (supposed to be consumed with wine, but we rarely reserve it only for that occasion), the mini lavender-infused bars...there's so much more....you'll find your own favorites! Also, one caveat - this is the place to pick up white chocolate indulgences if you have a non-traditional chocolate eater in your family, too. Also check out the rest of the candy section, especially the gummy and Asian offerings. The rest of WM isn't bad, either. This place should just be called "50 dollars"...as that is what everything here that I like seems to cost. Now, don't get me wrong -- I keep going back -- and I find things that don't cost $50. Hear me out. World Market is a great spot to explore if you like random foods/goodies from other cultures. They have a wide variety of teas, coffees, and flavored syrups to add to beverages like those fancy-schmancy coffee shops. They have a great selection of wines as well. However, my favorite thing to do at World Market is to build my own 6-pack of eclectic beers from about 12-16 shelves full of random beer bottles. Pricey, but fun. It also saves you from buying a whole 6, 12, or 24 pack of a beer that *looks* good, but ends up being on the brink of suck once you get it home -- and you never finish the case. See? I just saved you money. You're welcome. My other favorite thing about World Market are all the kitchen stuffs and gadgets. I love love love browsing all of the glassware, towels, and cool tea bag holders -- and how you can buy individual dishes for your very own in-home sushi party. It was marked 50% off, and then I got another 10% off for joining their Voyager program (just an email thing, not any sort of thing you pay money for), so I ended up getting a new wood patio set with a big rectangle table, two end chairs with arms, four side chairs, a huge rectangle umbrella (important for us pale folk), and umbrella stand, as well as a bottle of wine and a six pack of beer to help celebrate for right about $600! The staff are also really, really helpful. They will hold the furniture for you until you can come back with a truck to pick it up, which is pretty awesome, and they will go digging around in back to see if they have more of a particular thing for you so you don't have to take a floor model. We stayed over an hour here just looking at all the little odds and ends. So many interesting things to find here that couldn't really be found anywhere else. Home furnishings, decor, kitchen supplies, ethnic and specialty foods/snacks. Random Tip: During the holiday season, get a large tin of their ginger snap cookies. They are thin, light, crispy, and the spices make for a rich wonderful flavor. For me no Christmas is complete without an abundant tin full of these. It's hard to describe this place. It is a chain, but unlike most chains, it's hard to pigeon hole this place into a genre of a store. In many ways it's similar to Pier One, but in many ways it's totally different. And I love just about everything about it. A pro that is also a con is that you never really know what you'll find in here. Most of their furniture is catalogued and you can order it if you do not find it. But since most of their items vary by season, it's hard to remember something that you saw a coupe of months ago, where it was, and describe it. On the other hand, if you walk in not having any expectations and have money in which you are ready to buy, this place could be retail heaven. Whenever I go in here, I try to go in and not have a specific thing I'm looking for, just a specific room I'm trying to decorate and let the pieces fall where they may. Between this place and TJ Maxx Home Goods, you can really eclectically decorate a house and make it work! The best part in this place are the exotic (and some not so exotic) foods, extensive chocolate collection, and wine collection. If you want to learn how to be a professional amateur wine drinker start buying random labels here and let your palate do the talking. You'll be sure to find four or five that really stand out to you. Many now mainstream name wines from Australia started out at CPWM as a promotional wine. Next thing you know it's in your local grocery store with a prominent display! This store is very neat and the helpfulness of the employees reflects the general hospitality of Hoosiers and this northern suburb.
