    Lots of pots

I'm rounding up to 2 stars. I was drawn in by the beautiful pottery outside the doors. I was overcome by the smell of plastic (polypropylene?) when I entered the store. This is a large discount store. I normally enjoy a good discount store, but this was a mess. There were unopened boxes of merchandise inside aisles. Perhaps, they are short on staff? They carry cards, books, household items, dry food goods and much more. Prices are ok. Checkout was horrible. There was one clerk. She was having issues with their checkout system. In addition, she was trying to recruit Ollie members by asking personal questions, such as children's names. The patron in front of me was annoyed and so was I. I won't be back. Ollie's is a mess.

This store has a very special place in my heart... I just can't get enough! I love to walk around and see what I can find - there's always something interesting that isn't on your shopping list but you know you need it. For example, a donut toaster! Or unique flavors of Rice Krispy Treats. They get me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Ollie's has a great selection of brand name and non-brand name items for a significantly lower price. Some of the usuals I like to go for are Yankee Candles and Wax Melts, Toothpaste, Laundry and Dish Detergent, kitchenware and small kitchen appliances. Ollie's also has a great book section if you have the time to browse. Sometimes searching through the store is a challenge but that's just part of the adventure. They have a rewards program that typically offers 15% off coupons as well so make sure to sign up! Tip: make sure you look along the top of shelves - I found out during this trip that they sell suitcases along the top wall towards the back of the store. Once I started paying more attention to the top shelves, not only did I find new items that I didn't notice before, but I also realized that there were extras of items that I previously couldn't find! Ollie's is always worth the trip!

Ollie's Bargin Outlet is a discount chain store who offers items other stores have over purchased, factory seconds, close outs, remaining seasonal items or has printing errors. They carry a large selection of closeout merchandise from many, many homegoods, bedding, beverages, food, toys, electronics, cookware, books, greeting cards and space heaters. Many savings if you have time to browse all the isles. If you see an item you want I suggest you purchase right then since many things are closeouts. The isles are tiddy, spacious and the items are clean and organized well. It does take awhile to browse this large store. I've always found staff on the floor willing to answer questions or help find an item. The staff had a sense of humor, friendly and works hard to move check out lines quickly. Lots of savings and you never know what you'll find.

I don't know how he does it.) Anyway, on my kid's birthday wish list each year is the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. You want a book for your birthday, my child? I'm happy to oblige. This same kid also recently asked me to buy him broccoli so he can eat it raw. He's a treasure. I try, each year, to pre-order the books at local Indy bookstores. Support local, and all that. This year, I pre-ordered the book at MacArthur Books in The Village of WestClay. I had visited this adorable Carmel bookstore during a Yelp event a couple of years ago, and I told myself that I needed to come back. Pre-ordering my book was super easy. I called them on the phone and told them that I wanted to pre-order the book, and they took down my name and number, and told me they'd text me when it was in. I suppose, if you don't want to call them on the phone, you can stop into the store. They didn't make me prepay or anything. When the book was in, I got a text saying so, and I went and paid for my book and brought it home. My child was so happy! MacArthur Books hosts book events, like drop-in book clubs. They're also very active on social media. The bookstore itself is a cozy place to read (they have comfy chairs here and there), plus a cute children's area.

Today, I picked up a puzzle for my favorite 4 year old. McKayla, the clerk, greeted us with a big smile and offered to help us find something meaningful. They carry a wonderful selection of books and assorted gifts. I sat in one of their big comfy chairs and read excerpts from various books. And the best part is that they wrapped my puzzle for free! What a great deal! There's limited parking out front but you can usually find something along the street.

I was looking for a couple of books that they did not have because the books were out of print. The staff is helpful and will search and help find anything you looking for. They carry a really nice collection of STEM toys and LEGO kits. I picked up a flashcard game and several workbooks for my granddaughter. A nice assortment of crafting kits were on sale. There is a Starbucks inside the store if you need a coffee fix or want to sit and read after you shop.

All of those pages printed with stories and ideas! I sure do hope someone is buying books, though, because I would love to continue to visit bookstores like Barnes & Noble. I know it's a chain, and we're supposed to dislike chain stores. But we all need to rally around the publishing industry right now, because it is dying a slow and disgraceful death (ask me how I know). So, chain bookstores are fine, in my book. Like a good and proper chain bookstore, this Barnes & Noble is like every other one you've visited. Whatever you're thinking it looks and smells like -- yes, that's it exactly. This Barnes & Noble also has a coffee shop in it, and apparently they are now selling albums. My son, who is really into music, was delighted to find this out, and now asks to visit Barnes & Noble not to browse for books but to look at records. They also have a decent magazine section (God bless them). I sometimes pop into Barnes & Noble to buy gift cards for my kids' friends when they need a birthday present. A gift card to a bookstore is a great kid gift idea, in my opinion!

When you first walk in, it's a gaming room for the whole family! Then you walk into the bar area and there's lots of things for sale, from merch to beer to other games and books. The folks working were friendly and knowledgeable about events. My cousin ordered the beer flight and woke food. All was delicious. For the flight you could pick any beer or cider on tap. For food we got pretzel, chips and queso, chicken nuggets and grilled cheese. Everything came out relatively quickly. There is a ton space to play game in the next room over and wasn't too loud. There were several people who came to work or read and sat in the bar area and seemed content. Great experience!

We used to love going to the one downtown on Mass Ave also before it closed. But we're thankful this one is still open and that we live so close to it. I've found so many Xmas gifts for friends/family here also. If you're looking to find some retro, classic games and/or books, this might be the motherload! It's tucked in on the backside facing Home Depot, but once you find it the first time, you'll never forget where it is! Go in, grab some games, a beer (or two), and hang out during a trivia night! You'll feel right at home.
