Well stocked surplus store. Often a bit crowded with product and customers making navigation through the narrow aisles a challenge. Still, the staff & service are excellent and value shopping is well worth the drive (for me 6+ miles) to get there. read more

Don't expect to find that great eyeliner you picked up last time. Chances are, the good stuff will go quickly. Another hint, don't buy anything with a custom fit that requires a refill. On the up side, there are many staple items you can count on finding at this Overstock store, like spices and socks, rugs and containers. End of clearance is the best time to stock up on their already decent prices. I picked up a pool at the end of summer for $10. I don't care if it's only used once, it was 75% off and worth it - knowing how this global warming will have everyone scorching in the sun in a matter of several months. The downside of Big Lots; long lines (everyone wants a bargain), disorganization and narrow aisles. Give the employees a break. They can't be making enough to put up with everyone that comes through here. read more

When I have time I love coming in here to see what bargains I can find here. I signed up a long time ago for their rewards program and I guess I'm still puzzled if it is worth having. I learned that unless I'm working towards a future discount that it isn't worth signing up for emails etc. it is hard enough to keep ALL those cards in me and the typical person find it more of a hassle and nuisance to get constant emails that clutter up my inbox. It would be nice if they had better rewards because I'm the kind of person that is diligent about getting more bang for my purchases. read more

Looked all over the Broad Ripple/Glendale area for some Sterilite plastic cabinet organizers and found a limited selection at Meijer and Walmart. Big Lots had just what I was looking for this evening, and at a better price than I'd expected to pay! I looked around and they had quite a bit of home decor and some nice furniture in the back of the store, as well. I also found some interesting Bob's Red Mill baking products at a great price (they even had gluten free baking mixes). The cashier was super friendly...she greeted me at the door when I entered, and while checking out was kind enough to explain the rewards program to me. Forgot how much I like Big Lots! read more

I LOVE Big Lots! Yeah, they have lots of cheap Asian junk, but you can also find BARGAINS GALORE on tools and household goods. But what keeps me going back are the CLOSE-OUTS of brand-name or equivalent-to-brand-name-quality FOOD ITEMS. If something doesn't sell well at major chain stores, the manufacturer still has to dump their warehouse full of stuff that the major chain stores don't want anymore. And that's where Big Lots comes in. Granted, there is often a reason why something doesn't sell at the big name chain stores and it ends up in a close-out store. But sometimes the reason is not quality, it's just the taste of the average buyer. And if you happen to be "odd" or a "discriminating consumer" (like me) and like something that the majority doesn' t like (which happens all the time to those of us who really do have good taste, snort, snort, :-), then you can sometimes find it at Big Lots for a GREAT PRICE! OY VEY! SUCH A DEAL! So here's my strategy: I shop the food aisles every week, try a little of something I might like, and if I like it, go back the next time and buy a LOT of it, because when it's gone, it's gone. The employees at this store are pretty helpful and friendly too. They'll help you look for something. Are you a fan of Tuesday Morning? If so, Big Lots is the lower-priced version of Tuesday Morning. I've sometimes seen the same things on sale for cheaper at Big Lots. Caveats: #1: Check the expiration date of all food items before you put them in your cart. They are notorious for having out-dated food. Most everything is fine, but every once in a while they have out-dated product. #2: The store is not the cleanest. #3: This ain't Carmel, and not even Glendale. I came in here several months back and the customer service was horrendous! 4 customers in one line while 5 staff members stood around at the front. No new lines were opened and the one line that was seemed to have a new person who wasn't familiar with things yet. I went back yesterday since it's the closet store to my house and I needed a glass baking dish. The customer service was completely different! I was greeted by 3 different staff members in the less than 10 minutes I was in there. They were attentive and friendly. Giving 5 stars for the 100% improvement between my first and most recent visit. Great job in putting customers first! read more

It's like being at a yard sale, but where the stuff is new. I love getting little necessities here for cheaper than elsewhere. My iphone case died and the cheapest one at Target was $20--here: $5. Woohoo! I often buy nail polish here--last season's Revlon colors, $1 a bottle. Shampoo, toothpaste, pens/ papers- all great prices. They also carry 'The Works' which is the only thing to get the lime stains out of my toilet. What's not to love? read more

I was in the store today with my husband. Let me first say, he loves ths place. We were both frustrated by the number of items that had no prices or we in a completely wrong place. In fact an employee was assisting a customer and she was also unable to find the item she was looking for saying "it's not here where it should be". The store was very disorganized. When we were ready to check out, a sec6 cashier was called because there was a long line. The woman who came up walked right past my husband grumbling that she "was F@$#ing busy " she happened to be pushing around a cart of empty boxes. Then she was rude to the other customers she checked out before me. The service and attitude were horrendous. Get it together people get out of customer service. read more

I admit -- I am a Biggie Smalls Junkie...and have seen a lot of them in multiple states. Don't judge me. I think there was even a time when their name included the terms "big, small, and odd lots" -- which is a delightfully accurate description of this store in general. This particular store is not the newest, cleanest, nor the most organized, but the staff is friendly and the prices are right. Be sure to check 'best by' dates on food stuffs and if you like something they have, return ASAP to get a lot of it because once it is gone, it may not return. Bargains. Lots of bargains to be had. There was a time when I considered Big Lots to be a sort of Wal-Mart with actual customer service. They certainly weren't quite a mass merchandiser along the lines of a Wal-Mart, but I experienced a sort of blue collar kind of glee as I made my way down the aisles of knick-knacks, paddy whacks, and dog bones. It was kind of like the look on a five-year-old's face when you take them to a dollar store with a whole dollar to spend! It was also along the timelines of when Big Lots was running national ad campaigns with Jerry Van Dyke as their spokesperson. Then, everything changed. Jerry was gone from the scene, the advertising campaigns for the most part went away, and Big Lots as Wal-Mart with customer service became "The place you go when you don't have two hours to wait on the Wal-Mart cashiers." I had a few thoughts come to mind as I wheeled my way around the Big Lots at Allisonville Road: 1) I wonder if Jerry Van Dyke actually ever shopped at a Big Lots. 2) Shopping at Big Lots is a lot like using generic toilet paper. It may get the job done, but by the time you're finished you're going to be feeling mighty raw. 3) If cleanliness is next to Godliness, then Big Lots must be hell. This particular Big Lots is located in an older strip center on Indy's Northeastside not far from Glendale Town Center. It's a fairly working middle-class neighborhood that is sort of a transition neighborhood between lower income and upper income areas. This strip center is definitely run down with its primary attraction being a Some Guys Pizza establishment of which I'm also not very fond. While they have a curb cut, it's not a particularly good one with lots of wear and tear. The front entrance has two glass doors that are automatic doors, but they don't always work and when they do work they're about as fast as a quadriplegic in a 100 meter sprint. I can still remember when this Big Lots went in at this location, and in its early days the aisles were decent and the store was clean with pretty decent customer service. These days, they've redone their interiors to the point that I frequently can't make it down aisles due to obstacles, products, or people blocking the way. During today's visit, I had to slowly back out of four aisles because of poorly placed products. I know what you're thinking - "You still shopped there." It's a valid argument, but I guarantee that the hit-and-miss customer service, the general lack of cleanliness, and the blocked aisles do keep me from spending as much as I ordinarily would. Why do I still go? Inexpensive beverages and household supplies. The check-out counter is far from wheelchair friendly and the credit machine is not visible to someone in a wheelchair. In this day and age, that's inexcusable. The place gets two stars mainly because the prices are solid, there is a sense of organization to the overstuffed chaos and, on occasion, I've had a couple employees really shine here. Big Lots has all kinds of stuff I have zero use for but I'll buy it anyway because its such a great price. Big Lots bas everything you need. If you need anything to decorate your house for less, this is the place to go. I love getting name brand snacks here since they're so much cheaper than your regular grocery store. Customer service could be a little better, but other than that it's great! read more

I love this Big Lots location. It's always easy to find what I need and the store never seems to be extremely busy. My one complaint is the parking lot. People seem to drive without paying any attention to lanes. It can also be hard to get in and out of the lot since it's at a busy intersection. read more

I needed to get a couple storage containers. Mom suggested Big Lots. I popped in and thought WTH is going on here? are we remodeling or what. There was stuff stacked and stuff thrown everywhere. Did I miss the the BIG SALE where everything was 99% off ? Needless to say, I didn't find the containers I was hoping to find. I did find a jar of green olives for .65. I hadn't been in a Big Lots in years and this one was about how I remembered. I didn't really need anything, so it was a quick trip (I was killing time before dinner). I was surprised to see they had furniture -- although $599 seemed kind of steep for a love seat from, well, Big Lots. Basically if you're looking for something for cheap (mostly) and don't mind picking around, Big Lots is your place. There was only 1 cashier working and there were several people in line, another deterrent to me not buying anything. read more

I can't believe I am reviewing Big Lots. If you don't know what a Big Lots is you are missing out. Cheap stuff, nuff said. There is a ton of random stuff, name brand stuff, but random. It's like a thrift store only everything is still packaged and unused. I like hitting the candy aisle first and snacking on twizzlers while I browse the store. I pay for the half eaten bag of twizzlers when I'm done, wrestle down people. They have electronics, food stuffs, health and beauty, home decor, toys (great a x-mas), and some questionable clothing. Some have furniture too, I haven't inspected for quality, but if you need a bookshelf in a pinch might check it out. Mmmm...twizzlers. read more

I give big lots overall a five star rating. But this location not so much. The items are all stuffed in there pretty tightly, there is no room in between the aisles and sometimes the customer service is nonexistent and the lines are extremely long. Be prepared to wait you have been warned. I go here all the time and take advantage of their rewards membership program, they're always running specials and the stuff already cheap to begin with so it's lovely. But I go to this one all the time and overall recommend going here you'll find something ! read more

boyght a flashlight from them, worked when tryed out. shut down for a while, needed it to use,did not stay on more than 15 seconds. went back to see if they had any more, no way,tried to get help from them,no way. they needed sku nummber and sales receipt. no got, i firured if it worked when i got it,it would work when needed. the head office acted like they did not want to help me, no way. you would think that they would know what kind of merchandize they get, would you not think,,when they pay the billto there supplies. just another rip off place. maybe they would be better off trying to get an american made merchandize. read more
