After climbing the stairs to the front porch, we entered into the shop. To the left of the shop is a row of dressing rooms for visitors to try on the women's clothing offered within the shop. To the right are several rows of clothing that extend to the back of the shop. To the immediate right of the doorway are accessories, party games, greeting cards, and other small gift items. Based upon my wife's opinion, the clothing seemed to be high quality but also came with a higher price tag than what she was used to paying. She found a gorgeous necklace almost immediately, but the nearly $400 price tag scared her off. The ladies working were welcoming and offered to help find something if needed. Review #3329

Let's be honest. The minute you see that I'm reviewing Broad Ripple's Pitaya, you're saying to…read moreyourself "Why, Richard, would you be going into Pitaya?" Fair question. I am not young. I am not female. I am most certainly not slim. Sexy is not a word I would ever use to describe me. In other words, I'm not your typical Pitaya customer. I've always been curious about PItaya in Broad Ripple, one of 15 Pitaya locations nationwide with an emphasis on the Midwest with a handful of spots as outliers in Georgia, Texas, and Arizona. Pitaya started in 1990 in Bloomington, Indiana. The Broad Ripple spot now serves as their corporate address. It's a shop for young women's fashion, though certainly all ages can wear their fashions. Pitaya-labeled clothes are sewn here in the US. I had a cousin who, for many years, swore by Pitaya. While I've always been curious, that curiosity never led me to enter the place until recently when a friend asked me to pick something up. So, off I went. The good news, of course, is that Pitaya is one of the businesses in this building that is accessible. Several stores in this strip have a step to get in (Metamorphosis, the bagel shop, etc.). Pitaya's pretty easy to get into, and the accessible parking is about a block away. I actually found what I was looking for, picked it up, and was treated surprisingly well considering it was painfully obvious it wasn't for me. The store was well organized, the employee I met was friendly and helpful, and it had a good energy. I've also always associated Pitaya with super thin, however, I did see some variation in sizing. I mean, not quite to my size but definitely some variation. Will I go back? If my friend asks, sure. To be honest, I felt way more awkward at Thieves than I did here. If you can make an older, unfashionable guy like me feel comfortable then you've kind of won me over.

There was only one girl working, and as soon as my mom and I walked in, she greeted us warmly. She let us know about everything happening in the store, including a BOGO sale. The level of hospitality she showed us was amazing - something that's hard to find these days, and we really appreciated it.

Now that they've gotten into licensed team apparel, I've noticed some prices have gone up.. but it's the price of business. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ At any moment you'll see IU, Xurdue, Butler, Colts, Pacers and Indy 500 brands all over the store and online, with occasional touches into OSU, ISU (#LarryLegend), and retro brand fandom. The only less Hoosier Hopsitality thing about them is their staff - the guy working when I most recently stopped in did not appear approachable nor care to talk... but hello-- that is part of your job. The hipster Broad Ripple "I could care less" vibe he gave off left a sour taste in my mouth.

They had 2-3 shirts that were Taylor themed and a cute sticker. The prices were affordable and I paid $24 for a shirt and $3 for a sticker. For example, the design I really wanted was only available on a very think cotton shirt and I would have preferred a lighter and softer material.

I stopped in with…read morefriends and found a few items I liked, but the checkout process ruined the entire experience. The cashier initially ignored me to talk to her friend. When I paid, her first comment was along the lines of how "barely anyone pays with cash anymore." Already, the vibe was off. Then, she asked where I was from. After I informed her I grew up in the local area, she immediately started rambling about her neighbors from India. It was completely inappropriate, micro-aggressive, and made me wonder if she subjects all people of color to this kind of treatment. To make matters worse, I had to return to the store because I was shorted an item due to a system error. The store was nearly empty, but I could immediately tell she was heated and just wanted me gone. I brought an item to exchange and asked about stock for a few others, which is a standard request for a store employee. Instead of helping, her tone got meaner and her voice grew so loud that it felt like I was being reprimanded just for asking questions. She literally started yelling at me. I could see the hate in her eyes, and it took everything in me not to react disrespectfully back to her. Out of pure exhaustion, I gave up and only exchanged half the value of my item. This was hands-down the worst shopping experience I've ever had. If you're looking for similar items but prefer a classy environment where the staff actually welcomes you, I highly recommend going to Charles Mayer & Company instead.
