Decided to skip making dinner last night and order some Takeout and try a different restaurant in the area. I ordered the fried oysters, Mahi fingers, conch salad and lobster rolls. Some items were great and others not so much. Let me start with the highlights. The fired oysters were delicious. Actually the best I've ever had. They were moist and the batter crunchy. They were all around amazing! Next were the Mahi fingers. The Mahi was fresh, pieces thick, and cooked just right. The lobster roll had a good size portion.But, something was off for me. The bread on the roll was awful. It tasted like stale wheat bread. Put it this way I ate only the meat and threw out the roll. The conch salad was a good portion but the flavors were off. They make it with tomato juice and if you know anything about conch salad most peoples claim to fame is "no tomato juice." This was the worst conch salad I have ever had. If I had dined in I would I told the waitress. I'm confused how I could have the best fried oysters to the worst conch salad all in the same meal. Overall I would like to come back and try some other items. I would not be ordering the lobster roll because it was unmemorable and the conch salad went in the trash. I highly recommend they change there recipe or just remove it from the menu. read more

One of the only places we found that still serve FLORIDA style seafood and not New England style . Place is in an unassuming strip mall and inside is just a basic run of the mill sit down spot .. Our waitress was amazing (forgot her name ) she was from Pennsylvania originally , was amazing . She was friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely killer . We got the smoked fish dip (8 out of 10), we got the grouper sandwiches 10 out of 10) perfectly fried and had a clean mild flavor and the buffalo shrimp ( 8 out of 10) . Stopped in for sushi in the same plaza a few weeks ago and as we were walking by we saw Fish Shack. Usually any time I wanted seafood I would go to another small business named Calypso. After being seated quickly the waitress came over and got our order in which was the fish dip and the fish and chips. Our food came out pretty fast maybe 15 minutes. The fish dip with crackers was absolutely amazing didn't have a strong fish flavor but you could taste all the ingredients on their own would recommend! The fish and chips came out perfectly fried in that beer batter coating. The fish itself was flakey fresh cod which with their home made tartar sauce which complimented it perfectly. The inside wasn't too big but I can tell they have a lot of repeat customers. Overall if you are looking for a great seafood restaurant that is unassuming I would stop in and try some of their menu! First time at Fish Shack and it was really good! I got the fish n chips and they were delicious. The fish was fresh and the batter wasn't too thick the French fries were defintely good too. I also thought the size of the fish was just the right size. When we arrived they were super busy but lucky they had a small table for the two of us. As we ate our food though we defintely noticed it get busier and it seems like there was always a wait as the location is a bit small. We just returned from lunch today, and it was a great experience. Friendly staff, attentive service, delicious fish. Ambiance is kinda basic/ no frills, but everything was clean, and our booth was comfortable. Both had fish sandwiches- wife chose grilled grouper, and I enjoyed my blackened hogfish. Plates came out quickly with hot fries and steamed broccoli. Fish portion was large and obviously fresh on a soft roll. Delicious- best fish that I've had in 4 days of vacation here! After watching numerous people poke their heads into kitchen to chat with staff, I bumped into Mike and told him how much that I appreciated my great lunch. He then took me on a quick kitchen tour as we talked fish. Wow, what a clean and well-organized kitchen! ( I've worked in a few restaurants, too, and none looked nearly as nice). Even the walk-in was spotless, which is rare. It turns out that Mike has been owner for 11 ( or 13?) years and recently sold it but has stayed on with same kitchen crew. Very nice, articulate and appreciative guy. Waitresses were friendly and efficient. BC I had come from a market, I bummed a small bag of ice to put over some groceries, which our waitress did with no fuss or issue. Very kind. Service was excellent!! Every waitress stopped at our table to make sure we had everything we needed. Prices were high considering the quality of food. Conch fritters were over cooked, fries and onion rings were frozen. Onion rings were just like Burger Kings. Fish restaurants should have hand cut onion rings and French fries. Frozen food and dinners for 30$ not the quality of food I want. Never again I did not say anything to the waitress because they can't do anything about the quality of the food that is served. The food portions were of decent size & quality. The part that was not so great is the amount of seasonings the put on it is pure salt. Couldn't barely eat it because of the amount of salt that was on it. If they wouldn't have added the seasoning with all of the salt it would have been a great meal. read more

I ordered from this place after hearing great things. I was fasting all day and was craving beer battered cod and chips with lots of lemon and Tabasco. One bite and I was utterly disappointed. It was absolutely awful, not good at all and certainly not worth the price nor the drive to pick up. I had one piece of the cod and threw the rest away. The chips also are nothing to write home about. A total waste of money. The whole "we were on the news" has become their entire personality; perhaps the beer battered cod simply is not their specialty but unfortunately, I cannot recommend. read more

Well this was a treat. I wanted seafood and started looking for places to go being that in Florida a state surrounded by water it hard to get good seafood yet we found great seafood. If your looking for fine dining and candlelight white glove service where your server peels your shrimp this will not be your place. If you want fresh, delicious seafood in a relaxed atmosphere then definitely eat here. Expect to wait on Friday or Saturday as it's not very big inside. We started with the conch fritters. Yummy. Great flavor with chunks of conch. My wife had the blackened grouper sandwich and I had the crack conch platter. The group was so fresh and cooked perfect. If you like really fresh fish than this is your place. It's in a nondescript shopping center and the inside is nothing special in terms of ambiance, however the fish is amazing. On the board for fresh fish you had a choice of salmon, tuna, Mahi, hogfish, and swordfish. I was impressed since Hogfish is one that you don't see at restaurants very often. We started with the fish dip appetizer which was amazing. I had the hogfish sandwich, blackened, which was cooked perfectly and came with a choice of a side (coleslaw, cucumber salad, french fries or regular salad). Fish shack was on my list of places to try and stopped in today for lunch. Cool little spot and fairly steady. Sat at the bar area and was greeted fairly quickly; ordered a drink. For my meal, ordered the mahi mahi fingers and the clam strip platter. The mahi was excellent, very fresh, lightly fried and tasted great. The clam strips on the other hand were absolutely horrendous. Over-breaded, overcooked, and seems like they were out of a box from frozen; shocking that a fish spot would serve such terrible clam strips; DO NOT ORDER THESE. They did remove the clam strips from my check. The onion rings looked good, but barely any onion and way over breaded. The other issue is that the staff are just not happy. Arguing with each other, negative comments about the cooks, snide remarks and comments and just not a happy or positive environment. read more

Fabulous fried fish, shrimp, and scallops--all delicious, but the MOST unusually wonderful was the haddock. We split the fried seafood platter and it was plenty. We sat at the diner-ambience bar and drank iced tea with our meal which was all served by an experienced and friendly wait staff. Can't wait to return! And get haddock! read more

Found em on Yelp & frankly sometimes the ratings are off. But this place def earned the high ratings. Clam chowda & lobsta roll were perfect & reminded me of Boston where I grew up. I was looking for a low key fish sandwich lunch and convenient parking in Pompano Beach. It wasn't as easy of a task as you might think. Going through the options on yelp, I made my choice and was not in the least bit disappointed. Mahi-mahi sandwich, french fries and ice tea. Grilled to perfection, the fish was meaty and fresh with the sear lines from the grill across the top. That was exactly what I wanted. The bun was soft and fresh and at the same time as I was dining on the fish, I wolfed down the french fries with a big gob of ketchup on the side. Ice tea was OK but they did not offer sweet tea. Had to sweeten it myself. Since it's located in a strip mall parking was easy and ease of parking is kind of important in Pompano Beach. Service was prompt and I got a refill on my ice tea before heading out the door. The ambience screamed fresh seafood and there were lots of guys eating at the bar.
