While on holiday we researched Yelp and located this quaint spot for some of the best conch fritters. Upon recommendation of the waitress, I order one of their specialities--the Cracked Conch. The thin conch strips were crispy and well-seasoned with tender succulent pieces of meat on the inside. I am glad we stopped at this fish shack. What a little gem! I love this place. The food could not be fresher. The cooks know their craft back in the kitchen and the food is always perfectly cooked. Horribly rude. Told us we couldn't sit because we had a baby with us and wouldn't let us order food to eat here. To elaborate, asked for rushed order for food and waitress snaps incredulously at me that it will come out when it comes out. Asked us if we were going to eat in or take out and we answered eat in to which she replied that we can't have our baby carrier there because it bothers others so then I said ok, we'll take out then and have to stand to wait for the food. Which then she replied we can't sit there because they need seats for those eating in, even though she clearly has 3 other empty seats right at the entrance to use. Tried Fish Shack because of the high ratings and it did not disappoint! Fish was very fresh and well prepared. We had for an appetizer fried shrimp, fried whole clams and cracked conch which is conch pounded until tender then deep fried. It was all awesome! For entrees we had hog fish with garlic butter, grilled yellow fin tuna, and blackened swordfish. We all enjoyed our food with beer and wine. We finished with a slice of Key Lime pie which was tart and not very sweet, perfect ending to a perfect dinner. Staff is friendly and food arrived super fast and piping hot! I was in Ft. Lauderdale with friends. I asked the people at the resort for a good seafood restaurant. They sent me to a terrible restaurant. I went online and ran across the Fish Shack. They next day we went to the Fish Shack for a late lunch (1:30). We anticipated eating very little, not wanting to get too full for dinner. The food was sooo good that we all ate until we got full. This place is nothing short of amazing the food was to die for we had the red snapper, cracked conch and the combo platter and it was all cooked to perfection. Even though this place is a little hard to find, I think it's well worth it. I've had a grilled swordfish sandwich and it as absolutely fantastic. It was cooked just right and seemed very fresh. The service was good too. I highly recommend this place. read more

The first time I decided to give the "Fish Shack" a try, I have to be honest, I never got out of the car, the exterior of the building alone are the catalyst for culinary nightmares.... But after reading more great reviews I had to give it a go. All I can say is I'm such a dumb a@! for not going there sooner! In talking with Mike (owner/chef) it is obvious he has a passion for what he does! The fish is always fresh and prepared to perfection! The fried grouper and fried scallops are my favorites but the cracked conk is no slouch.... They open at 11, if you arrive then chances are there are a few people already waiting for the doors to open, certainly worth any wait and I'm not the kind to wait anywhere.... I've been eating here for the past few years and will continue to do so, I'd put this food up against any of the local legends! read more

If you can find it you WIN. You may need to wait in a long line but it's full of locals who know the wait is worth it. The fish is fresh and perfectly prepared. You can bring your own catch and they will prepare it for you. Staff is super friendly and as attentive as they can be given the crowds. The garlic butter sauce is rich and delicious but you really need to be a garlic lover as I am or you will be totally overwhelmed. If you're looking to dine this is not the place. Its very small, no atmosphere and only 2 choices for adult beverages. Other than that, the food is good, but i wont be rushing back. We were drinking our beers and the server came over and put the check on the table without asking if we wanted anything else. How have I lived/worked in Pompano for 20 years and never heard of this place? Went last night and will be going back. Most important, the food was excellent, absolutely done right. Our waitress was excellent, friendly, fast, accurate service, did not have to ask for refills, or want for anything.. She took care of us right, and double checked by asking a couple times if we needed anything. Additionally, was impressed one of the guys from the kitchen came out to say hello, and ensure we were completely happy with the food. Great food, exceptional service, at fair prices. Freshest fish, perfectly prepared. And ambiance enough for Steinbeck. The establishment seats 25 or so per turn, and every empty table or bar stool is filled immediately, mostly, it appears, by local residents. It's their secret. You will seldom encounter better prepared seafood. Just basic preparation, but done with consummate skill--perfect grilling, blackening, frying, etc. and the fish is all just off the boat. Found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. Best meal ever! The blackened scallops were amazing, the fish and chips were melt in your mouth good and the wings (for those non seafood people) were delicious. This is a definite repeat! Seating is limited but it's worth the wait! read more

Food was great, place was tiny, we are talking 4 tables and a bar. I got the blackened grouper and was very pleased with the food and service.
