Bad First Experience only at this location I always use yelp but have never until today created an account. My experience today was so bad I felt it was necessary to put a review. I am a big fan of First Watch. I am a frequent customer at the Newport News location since it's close to my residence. Today my wife and our 2 year daughter went in for breakfast. We were seated by the manager with maybe 6 other tables with customers. We did as we usually do ordered our daughter her breakfast and an order of million dollar bacon first. We ordered water, coffee, apple juice and tea followed by our order shorty after. After being there about 20 mins we realized they started getting really busy. We are use to this because we go to the Newport News location and it a common thing. Our daughters breakfast and the bacon was received quickly within about 10-15 mins which was fast since at the time there weren't many customers in. We received the water, apple juice and coffee never the tea. After our order was taken we never spoke with the waitress again except the two times I flagged her down. After 30 mins of drinking coffee and water and our bacon I flagged down the waitress ask for the tea that had never arrived at the table. The waitress had tables adjacent to use that she was also servicing. After about 45 mins I flagged the waitress again and asked if there might had been a delay in our meals as tables surrounding us of customers whom had just arrived 15-20 mins prior too had already received their meals. I was told "sorry it's really busy right now". After we had been sitting at the table for over hour closer to an hour and 15 mins we decided to leave. I spoke with the manager about us leaving and she personally remembered seating us and even she was surprised to why we hadn't received our meals. If the meals were never placed to be made and it was a mistake that maybe the waitress had not or forgotten to place our order I could have understood and we most likely would have stayed and enjoyed our meals. Yet when I was asking about our meals and was told "it's busy right now" when we arrived prior to the rush just seemed as if we were being blown off. We literally sat there drinking coffee and water for over an hour without atleast a follow up of hey I checked on your order they are cooking it now or it should come out shortly. The whole service provided today was horrible and my experience of eating at this location (technically we didn't get to eat) was just awful. I always recommend first watch locations to friends and family. Even in July at the Newport News location I had family come in from out of state. I took them all to first watch in Newport News. They had nothing but things about the food and service. Just from this one experience I will not recommend or return to this location I will return to the Newport News location. Today my food was amazing! Biscuit was light and fluffy and I had enough gravy this time. The potatoes were well done and not hard. Even my million dollar back was cooked well and not burnt. First time customer here. Seen they had CRAB AND AVOCADO TOAST with two eggs which looked great online and was excited to try. Like most places that sell toast I was expecting 2 pieces because the description did not specify it was only one. On top of that there was very little crab on my toast nowhere near what is advertised on their website menu. For the price I found it very underwhelming and think that they should advertise you only get one piece of toast. Also if you're charging $15 for one CRAB AND AVOCADO TOAST with two eggs you should be more generous with the amount of crab put on there. If I were to open my own dream brunch restaurant, it would look a lot like First Watch. The menu is truly exciting with excellent variety but without being overwhelming. There's plenty of sweet indulgent options balanced by robust options in the savory front as well. There are many solid healthy and vegetarian dishes as well. I got the frittata rustica and my boyfriend got one of the skillets, and a waffle to share. Everything was delicious and came with plenty of sides like salad and fresh fruit that complemented the entrees well. I'm looking forward to going back soon to try some of their seasonal menu items! This location is busy due to the First Watch reputation, but we find they present as rushing you out the door instead of good service. We eat at this location about twice per year and find them inconsistent. There is nothing wrong with this location in the chain, but that's just it..:not a lot that stands out either. Tipping at 15% should be for standard good table service. 20% should be for exceptional. Above that should be for outstanding and/or situational. In our last visit we barely saw our server and actually had to flag a management associate to address a small issue. We will go back, as the food is okay, even though this last visit it looked sloppily prepared. They could be so much better. read more

Amazing, the turkey biscuit and gravy meal was perfection. My son had the tacos everything about them was tasty. Great meal. Grandson loved the chocolate chip pancakes. Came on Labor Day so it was expected to be a bit busy. Bloody Mary was the worst I've ever had. This is so important to me because I love a good Bloody Mary at a brunch spot. I used to eat at First Watch 2-3 times a week however we have to send our eggs back 2-3 times each time we were there because they can't seem to fry an egg anyway except raw or well done. Let me first say that our server was amazing. Perfect amount of attentive, he remembered everything we asked for and the order was correct. After that the experience was mediocre. The breakfast tacos say they come with chicken chorizo, pico and avocado. They either forgot the chorizo or there was very little of it. The "house made" pico looked like it wasn't anything except chopped tomatoes and there was hardly any avocado. My son got the trifecta. He has similar feeling about his food. The serving size for the eggs was tiny, you only get one sausage, and he said the waffle wasn't very good. The wife did really liked her chili chorizo omelet. The omelet had plenty of ingredients and the greens looked fresh. The coffee was better than some of the chain places out there but not amazing. We where also surprised that real cream was not available. We might try it again but with the expectation starting lower. Definitely was not worth the prices nor the 45 minute wait. read more

Took my disabled (visually impaired and wheelchair bound) mom to brunch yesterday after her doctors appointment. While the entrance doors aren't handicap accessible (manual opening only) there were about 5 servers standing near the bar talking and on looking as well as two employees at the cash register just watching as I struggled to open the doors and wheel my mom inside. One finally walked over to the host stand once we made it inside and greeted us. I kinda gave them a pass believing in my heart, maybe just maybe. due to signage my mom wasn't visible until after we were completely through the (see through glass) doors. Well sure enough we were served, had a great meal and when it was time to go, I paid out bill, tipped out sever for her great service and well, the staff again just watched as I struggled now with a take out bag to open the doors and wheel my mom out of BOTH set of doors. Offering to assist in general is would have been a kind and decent thing to do even if not obligated... but to assist YOUR customers, is simple YOUR JOB! This is a great breakfast/brunch spot. There's always something nice on the specials board and the Million Dollar Bacon is,...(for a bacon lover) breathtaking! The food is very good, doesn't matter what you get. Breakfast has great egg dishes and homefries, plus the aforementioned bacon.
