Chimichurri Steak & Eggs Hash OMG!!!
    Elle R.

Wow! I just had my favorite dish from First Watch! This chimichurri steak hash has so much flavor and everything is cooked to perfection. My server Tammy was fantastic, very sweet, attentive, and didn't rush me through my drink before my breakfast. The restaurant is clean, bright, and not too loud. I was done by 8:50am on a Sunday morning and it still wasn't busy, busy at this point.

I was really excited for the breakfast potatoes, but they weren't that good. They had nice flavor, but many of them were extremely undercooked, almost to the point of being raw. I'm not sure if that's just how they are here or if they were cooked poorly today, but that was disappointing. The French Toast was good, the hot chocolate was good, the coffee was just okay. Despite being in a fairly large group (8), our food came out really fast and everything was correct. Our server was great. I love the decor in here and the chalkboard seasonal menu, such a cute touch. Overall, it was good but really wish the potatoes were better.

Usually the food is top rate, but this time my salad with lemon dressing wasn't very fresh-the lettuce was limp. Great service though.

Every time I come, I leave satisfied. Service has always been top-notch - like take-the-time, patience and genuine kindness - and they did it yet again! I opted for smoked salmon eggs Benedict this visit - delish! No regrets here! I'll probably go back to the healthy breakfast bowls next time - they are the best!!!!

While there were loads of folks there, wait time wasn't too bad for breakfast/brunch time (after 10:15). My waitress was great! Not too loud in there given the number of patrons. The flavor of the food was spot-on! I tried a new Fall Menu item (Honey Bacon Brussels Hash) & while it was slightly over-seasoned (salty) IMO, the flavors melded well. Loved the chili crunch topping. The only thing that was bothersome was the Brussels sprouts were rather large bites (obviously one can use a knife to cut them), but most were also a tad too "raw;" better that, though, than mushy. Yep, I'd still go again. :)

This is a great breakfast spot! We had a small group and the service was top notch! I had coffee and the million dollar bacon. Both were delicious! I can't wait to get back! Great food, great service!

I had not been to First Watch in years. Food was perfect. Much improved over what it was when I decided to eat elsewhere. Today my omelette and sides were excellent. Bacon was crispy as asked. Only thing that could have been better would be if my daughter in college was eating here with me. Server was very nice, friendly, and prompt.

My boss wanted to order breakfast for everyone, I suggested first watch. You can never go wrong with eating here. They have a little of everything for everyone. I ordered the Barbacoa Chilaquiles breakfast bowl on their seasonal special menu to go. 8/10 This was a big portion of food; pros very flavorful, seasoned great, the black beans and veggies were very fresh! Cons there was only 3-4 pieces of meat, it was way too much tortilla at the bottom to the point it absorbed most of the sauce. I ordered a side of potatoes and a purple haze breakfast drink (my fave). Great place for breakfast and brunch, highly recommend especially if you're into healthy eating.

On a recent trip to the area, I was in the market for a brunch. I did a little bit of research and came upon this restaurant. The interior is very attractive and they seem to do a lot of business. I heard really good reviews about the place so I was interested in trying it. Service was pretty good. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the food quality. The waffle was decent. Bacon was not yummy and the potatoes were salty. The best thing I had was the drink. Was the food horrible? No. Did I think it was the most delicious? No. Will I go back? Not likely.

Always busy and always good! I love when I get to spend time with my Grandma and she chose this spot today. Even though it was busy our service was so fast- I wish I caught our servers name she was great! Food was delicious as well, First Watch never disappoints at any location

After several visits over the years, I've only had their coffee and pastries, not their cafe food. The interior is cute and there's often a queue upon entering to order at the counter, but don't let that intimidate you because it moves fast. I recommend getting some of their water on tap (both still and sparkling water are available) if you have to wait! If you're queer like me, you'll likely be drinking a cold black coffee and they have options! They have a regular cold brew in 3 sizes, a cold brew of the moment / seasonal (ask about it!) and a cold brew shandy for something different. My partner and I got two different cold brews on tap today, the original and the Seasonal Single Origin Honduran one. The single origin Honduran was better, but their original was good too. There's a lot of seating, but it's usually taken up, so I tend to just take my coffee to go. Expect to walk out for around $6ish a cup. They clearly care about providing you a good experience with a strong cup of coffee. Give them a shot if you're in downtown Overland Park!

It's near terrible food definitely doesn't stop people from coming in, again, you are in one of the nicest areas of downtown OP and have limited coffee competition, so I guess food quality isn't your number one concern.

I happened to visit during the World Cup, so the flags made the atmosphere feel especially fitting. It was relatively quiet when I stopped in, making it a nice spot to relax with a coffee and pastry as well. The menu isn't huge, but it offers a nice selection of Brazilian favorites, including pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), coxinha (Brazilian chicken croquettes), and Escondidinho de Carne, a Brazilian-style shepherd's pie made with yuca instead of potatoes (available with either beef or chicken). Many of these items are also sold frozen to take home, along with brigadeiros, cakes, and other desserts. They also serve coffee, smoothies, and a creative lineup of açaí bowls named after Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt colors. I've never had an açaí bowl before, but the belt-themed names definitely made me want to try one next time. My Order: Beef Yuca Shepherd's Pie The crust was flaky and buttery with a savory beef and yuca filling. I ordered it to go, and it was still warm by the time I got home. Honestly, I'm not sure I could tell much of a difference between yuca and potatoes, but if you're already a fan of shepherd's pie like me, this is definitely worth trying. The woman at the counter was friendly and welcoming, and the café itself was clean, bright, and comfortable. Atmosphere & Service: 5 Beef Yuca Shepherd's Pie: 5 The only reason I'm giving 4 stars overall instead of 5 is because the menu is fairly limited. I just wish they had a few more sandwiches or lunch options because I'd definitely come back to try them. I'll definitely be back to try one of the açaí bowls as well as the Beef Yuca Shepherd's Pie.

They absolutely have the processes of this little restaurant honed to perfection, and even during a busy lunch time kept things humming so that there was minimal wait time (to order, for the food to be brought out, and to pay for our meal). Many, MANY thanks to Robert, who seated us, took our order, brought our food out, and settled our bill. He was friendly, efficient, and so welcoming. It was a joy to watch him work; he made sure to greet each and every customer coming in the door, and was consistently so upbeat and positive. And many, MANY thanks to Tony at the grill! Our food was FANTASTIC!! I have high standards for Mediterranean food, and the falafel wrap was totally delicious! The falafel itself was perfectly cooked, with a crispy outer layer, and the other ingredients in the wrap were chosen for a perfect melding of flavors. I had the side salad, with homemade Thai peanut dressing, and it was equally tasty. My husband had the patty melt, which came on homemade bread (!) and was, per his report, perfectly done. His side was tater tots, and we shared them. They were crisp and light without being greasy, and addictively yummy! The restaurant is in a strip center; it's not very big, but the tables are well placed so that no one feels cramped. The open reception area and kitchen/grill make it easy for the staff to respond to what's happening in the dining room (e.g., new folks arriving). It was a truly memorable meal, and we'll definitely be back! Again, MANY thanks to Robert and Tony for such a great lunch. We appreciate you!

Now…read morethat we've cleared that up, let's get to the meat and potatoes -- or in this case, chicken and rice. (Don't worry, we'll circle back to the actual meat and potatoes later.) I ordered a large Mango Lassi. It was delicious -- creamy, sweet, and refreshing -- but calling it "large" might be a slight exaggeration. Still, flavor-wise, no complaints. The real reason I chose this restaurant was the Chicken Rice Platter, and to say it delivered would be an understatement. There's a spot in Houston I used to visit just for this exact dish, and this version absolutely blew it out of the park. A solid 10/10. The chicken tasted like it was rotisserie-style, with a beautifully seasoned crust on the outside and juicy, tender white meat inside. It's served over fragrant yellow rice, topped with a rich white sauce, and paired with a fresh cucumber salad on the side. Hands down, my favorite dish of the night. Next up was the Beef Nihari, served with naan and yellow rice, along with the Karachi Chicken Biryani. The Beef Nihari is a thick, deeply seasoned beef stew with generous chunks of fall-apart tender meat. It's hearty, comforting, and packed with flavor. The warm, fluffy, pillowy naan was perfect for soaking up that rich broth. Paired with yellow rice, it makes for a seriously satisfying meal. (Side note: it is oily -- which is traditional and expected -- just a friendly heads up.) The Karachi Chicken Biryani was beautifully spiced, aromatic, and fluffy. Tender chicken thighs and drumsticks were nestled into the rice alongside hearty chunks of potato -- told you we'd get to the meat and potatoes. It has a noticeable kick, but nothing overwhelming. Just bold, well-balanced spice. To finish, I had a large Lemon Mint Virgin Mojito. Extremely refreshing -- crisp citrus and minty cool -- but again, "European large" might be the more accurate description. I placed this as a carry-out order and made the commute to pick it up. The restaurant is located in Overland Park in an area that seems to have several similar establishments, at least from my perspective. Once inside the double doors, you're welcomed into a fairly modern dining space with seating for couples and larger groups, plus a private dining area. There appeared to be a buffet set up -- possibly for Iftar -- which is a thoughtful and convenient touch. I also appreciated the designated prayer area, which was a wonderful detail to see. The host was friendly, and my food was ready in a timely manner. Overall, I was genuinely impressed. Flavor, atmosphere, hospitality -- all on point. Definitely check it out for yourself.

I recently attended a somewhat fancy "Tasting Tea Party" here, which was part delightful and fun,…read moreand part awkward and disappointing. The table setting was lovely, with small vases of roses, and it was a great way to gather with 5 friends for a fun afternoon. They provide tiered towers of small sweet and savory treats, which included a delicious pastry with bits of pear, a slice of tasty cheesecake to top with strawberry jam, salmon with cream cheese rolled in a crepe, and a tasty but crumbly tiny sandwich. Each tower was shared by 2 people with one of everything for each. However, they weren't all "finger food," and some were too messy to pick up, and/or too big to eat in any dainty way in one clean bite! So we had to ask for small plates to put them on, and utensils of some sort...and more napkins, of course! It seemed those kinds of things should' have been provided or anticipated without our having to ask or go get them ourselves. We expected they would serve various teas by pouring a small amount in our individual cups to try, and tell us what kind we were tasting, and then come back in a bit with the next kind to taste as we munched on treats. Instead we got individual teapots, in which we could only choose one flavor to brew, when we all wanted to try them all...it was supposed to be a tasting!! But having 6 pots of unlabeled teas, and not remembering which was what, and everyone wanting to taste all made it unnecessarily complicated. And continually passing 6 different pots of unknown teas back and forth across the table was cumbersome and confusing. We tried to write each type on a napkin and twist them around the teapot handles, but those didn't stick! And if you didn't like one kind, or more, there was nothing to pour the remainder from your cup into in order to try the next. So one of us left the table to ask for a "tea-spittoon" so to speak. A good time was had by all, but it wasn't an event we would want to do again at the European Market and Cafe. It is a fascinating market with a large variety of packaged foods and candies from many countries. It would be very helpful to be multilingual in order to read the labels to know what they are! You can also enjoy a meal in the cafe, and/or carry out some pre-prepared fresh specialty foods, pastries and desserts. But be prepared for a little sticker shock. Then again, I guess that's common everywhere these days!

I also had a decaf iced latte, which was tasty. Both my mom and I agreed that the food was good and richly flavored. The employee who served us was both nice and knowledgeable, answering any questions we had about food options we weren't familiar with in easy to understand, succinct terms. When I went (mid afternoon on a Tuesday) it was pretty quiet, with one employee in the front and a couple of other patrons seated. There was some pop music in the background on low volume, which I appreciated. Overall the vibe at that time of day on a weekday was very calm. I'm interested in checking out their karaoke, live music, and tea time nights/events in the future. They definitely look like fun ways to spend some time! Ultimately, if you're looking for good, casual European fare, including Eastern European, or even if you're just curious, I absolutely recommend European Market and Cafe.
