We ate brunch here on a girls' weekend and it was superb! We waited probably 10-15 minutes. The waiters and staff were very prompt and conscientious. The Bacado omelet was everything! Bacon, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese and salsa- yummy! I tried my friend's French toast- so good! Million dollar bacon- $5 for four slices- suspect right? NOPE! We've been coming here since they opened even if they kept on messing up. Came for lunch today it was just a horrible experience. The grits was cold, the toast came slathered with butter and the eggs on the Benedict were over cooked. This is always their issue...cold food and over cooked eggs. How can an establishment serve breakfast all day and yet they can't cook an egg? The server never checked on us after dropping off our food. As a customer it's not really my job to find her. It seems like they are always short on servers...they're all running around like they're so overwhelmed. This is such a poorly managed restaurant. I would rather drive the extra miles and pay for tolls to get downtown where there are plenty of restaurants who actually serve food that's actually served hot, cooked correctly and edible. read more

Since Cafe Caturra South Side closed unexpectedly ( bummer) I was looking for a new breakfast/brunch place. This is a little more of a drive for me but still South Side so not too far. It's amazing; everything we ordered was really good and they had a lot of gluten free foods for those who like that option. There is some disorganization just from being new but I expect those kinks will get worked out soon. Right now, if you are in hurry not a good idea to go here because they are a little slow. I had heard about First Watch from friends who knew it in Cali so I'm glad to have it Southside. This is the next food born illness waiting to happen, like Jack in the Box, Chipotle, or any leaf lettuce outbreak. Although I had to return my meal once for being a bit too cold, the staff quickly resolved the issue and I was able to enjoy yet another delicious breakfast! So why 4 stars? The wait...sometimes it takes quite a while to get a seat...and this was before COVID! But that's just a testament to the quality and flavor of the food...Also, the waiting areas for both were not well thought out. I would give it 0 star if I could. We went there for breakfast on Monday. Being a holiday, we expected a wait. We were told 1/2 hour which we were ok with. After the half hour expired, we noticed people coming in and being seated right away. After inquiring with the hostess, she said that if you did call ahead online, you were given priority when you walked in but then she said I can sit you now. Wonder how long we would have waited had we not inquired. It then took at least 20 minutes before we were waited on. We asked for coffee and water, got the coffee pretty quick but no water. He said he would be right to take our order but it took at least another 20 minutes before he came back. He took our order and without exaggeration, it took at least 45 minutes for our food to come. We had no silverware so we asked for some and that took 10 minutes. By then, sausages were cold. We asked for more coffee and never got it. We do expect some hiccups now and then but this whole experience made us angry and ruined our meal. Needless to say we will never go back to First Watch. read more

Wonderful fresh tasting food and excellent service by waitstaff. I would love to give a 5 star however the hostess/hostesses are generally dismissive and not very friendly. The front waiting area has been in disarray each time we have been covered in overflowing trash of complimentary coffee that is generally empty. We stopped by for a taste of our old Florida stomping grounds this past Saturday and we were glad we did. We started with their seasonal Million Dollar Bacon, it was sweet and spicy, and caramelized just enough. For our main dishes, we both ordered from their seasonal menu and were not disappointed. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros Tostadas. The portion was perfect and the slaw on the side added the perfect freshness to the dish. The tortillas were crispy and eggs were perfectly runny without being underdone. My husband ordered the Super Seed Protein Pancakes without the bananas and they were delicious, the berry compote added much needed moisture and freshness to the hearty cakes. My fiance' & I went into the Broad St/Short Pump location for the first time to sit and eat. Upon entering, the hostess greeted us and sat us at a table that is to the left from the entrance. After she showed us where to sit, she walked off and never said when she'd be back. Everyone else in the restaurant, was seated on the right side. We didn't think much of it until we looked around and saw that there was no one seated in the area with us and every single table in the area was filthy except the one we were seated at. After becoming disgusted with the scenery around us and the separated seating arrangement; we decided to leave. Granted, we both are African American and were dressed in all black. I wouldn't like to label that as the reason we were seated in a dirty area alone, but that's how it felt and we were the only brown people there to eat.
