    Charter Colony Potatoes
    Courtney W.

TLDR: first breakfast experience was great but my second visit was average and slightly disappointing comparatively. Maybe 3rd time's the charm? Vibe- I came here looking for a place to eat and get some work done. If you're big on ambiance/aesthetics then this is not the place for you. The decor is dated and distracted. I was expecting a neighborhood coffee shop vibe but the staff wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. Overall, service was underwhelming. Food - both times I ordered the charter colony. The croissant is really the star IMO. It's soft, fluffy, buttery - everything you could ask for! Other than that the sandwich is to be expected. Good but not wowed for the price. The side of potatoes were WAY better during my first visit. They were super crispy and flavorful. This time they were average and bordering burnt. My food came out warm (not hot) and I waited for nearly 15 minutes for my sandwich which felt far too long considering I was the only person (literally!) in the entire restaurant.

What a welcoming vibe! Booths and tables abound in this galley style eatery. There's a fudge confectionery case as soon as you walk in, and let me tell you, it's delicious! I bought several flavors of fudge during the holidays and they were a hit with my guests! This restaurant also features crafts, jewelry, and books from local artisans and authors, which I love since supporting community is a plus in my book! The menu is well thought out, I've been here for breakfast several times and the food is prepared to order! They also carry Cupertino bagels for an authentic NY experience! The server was also the owner and he was pretty cool... chatting with us and giving us some history of the place. We enjoyed his dry sense of humor! We also enjoyed the baked goods!! The prices were on point and we left feeling like a regular. In the back, there's a small kid friendly area for your tots to amuse themselves. Smart thinkin' Lincoln! We enjoyed this spot immensely and I'll be heading back there today for lunch!! Well done!! Love this place!

Despite being in a strip mall, this spot does a decent job of having a neighborhood feel. Felt like customers were regulars. Service is nice. Sandwiches and coffee come out quickly. I tried the charcoal coffee, which was yummy, and the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. The sandwich seemed like something I would make at home. Tasted fine, but just not impressive "restaurant quality." I was disappointed that they didn't have any salads, soups or Perrier on the menu.

Used Yelp to find a coffee shop in Midlo area so tried Coal Mine based on other reviews. The shop is cute and has ample seating. We were greeted by a friendly staff right away. I had the egg wrap with tomato which was very bland. More wrap than egg which was disappointing. My latte was ok. Husband had the Old Buckingham which was also ok. Nice that they offer lots of options for vegetarian and milk alternatives.

Parking sure was easy to find for Coal Mine Coffee and Sweets! We pulled right up to the front door and parked in a marked spot, for patrons only. As soon as we entered, the owner greeted us warmly and quickly from the counter. She seated us in a booth, tucked away from the front door. On the way in, we noticed bagged coffees and tumblers for sale. It's a cozy little cafe, with an espresso machine and kitchen to the left of the restaurant. My husband is the one with a good eye. When he was cruising the menu, he noticed that they served a chocolate chip muffin. He remembered how much I said I loved those back in college, so my mind was set! Our server was the cafe owner, and she was friendly and took the time to discuss the menu with us. We appreciated her attentiveness. She walked us through the menu. When she served my chocolate chip muffin, I was over the moon. Not only did it look the way I had hoped, it was warmed through and through! Melted chocolate chip goodness, here I come. My husband's brownie also boasted chocolate chips. It did not disappoint in that category. This brownie had a dense, rich texture, almost like a flourless cake. As for our beverages, a large home brewed sweet tea was my husband's pick. How refreshing it was! Not to overpower the chocolate muffin, I opted for a vanilla latte. It was a smooth, creamy latte and perfect for an afternoon inside. We enjoyed our trip to Coal Mine Coffee & Sweets! We'd like to go back and try something from the breakfast or lunch menu. We know we'll get a great parking spot!

Love, love LOVE this place and the wonderful owners, Paul and Jenny. Delicious food and coffee. Sadly no pictures of the food, except my dessert, because we inhaled it. Definitely visit this place. Also amazing to find pork roll/Taylor ham outside New Jersey.

So happy that I found this place again!! They have moved locations. Still good coffee, house roasted, and food. Breakfast and lunch available as well as coffee accompaniments

My wife and I decided to try a coffee shop this morning... and regretted it. Definitely should've just gotten Starbucks. This place is in an identity crisis. It seems to be stuck between wanting to be a coffee shop and wanting to be a sit down restaurant. If they focused on one thing I think it may be better. Don't come in and get anything special is what we learned. I would just get their drip coffee and a chocolate croissant or danish if I do come back.

Im extremely disappointed in this place. It was my first and last time dining here. Upon walking in my friend almost almost fell because she tripped on a leg of a giant chair they have randomly sitting in the walking in area. The breakfast sandwich was fine. I got a pumpkin spice latte that was the color of milk, and had no taste at all. The coffee is also $6.75, and an extra .75 cents for less ice. Avoid this place!!!! I also posted a review on their Facebook and they immediately blocked me.

Just a diner. Good drip coffee and breakfast. I'm sure the regulars love the place. As a first timer not sure I would drive back to Midlothian just to eat there. The mini mouse mug was a cup addition.

Our first visit to the new Coal Mine Coffee Cafe'. Lunch was great! Grilled cheese and tomato with homemade chips were amazing! The fudge was so creamy and fresh! Extremely friendly employees and also the owners!!

We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist. All were fresh. All in all, a great place to stop by for a morning pastry treat and tea/coffee while in the area,
