I ordered a cold brew and my son ordered a matcha and my daughter a banana latte. They use homemade banana syrup in the drink and you can tell, it is delicious. Today's coffee adventure took me to Perk! What a fun little coffee shop, featuring breakfast, lunch, and baked goods. The barista was super friendly and when I asked him for a suggestion, he recommended a half sweet toffee nut latte. It was nice and hot and not overly sweet. There were several families here, enjoying food and reading books with their kids. It's a great place to relax and enjoy your food and drinks. As it's located in a strip mall, there is ample parking. Walking into Perk, we were greeted with a bustling and lively coffee shop. I loved the amount of inclusive artwork and items they had around the shop highlighting their commitment to serving a diverse clientele. I was definitely overwhelmed at how busy this place was but definitely felt welcomed. The drink menu was written on a chalkboard behind the cashier which was a bit difficult to understand. Trying this shop for the first time was a difficult experience since I couldn't tell what the drink pairings or options were. If it's your first time going here, I may reccomend reviewing their online ordering system first so you have an idea of what you'd like. Printed laminates of the food menu was available which made it much easier to order. I ended up getting a lavender latte with oat milk and an Oh Henry sandwich! The sandwich was a delicious grilled cheese/turkey with fig jam. The combo of sweet and savory really complimented my latte. I wish the latte was a bit sweeter but overall it had a decent flavor. I think this is a nice place to spend time with a friend, but due to how busy it is not sure if I'd come here to get any work done. I found myself a bit overwhelmed with the amount of people and the difficulty in finding seating. I will definitely be back for another Oh Henry to go though! read more

They have plenty of vegan options (even a rotating selection of baked goods and treats) to keep me happy. They have vegan cream cheese and sausage for their bagels too. I definitely love the idea of this coffee shop. It's very eclectic, from the decor, mixed seating, merchandise and food for sale. I was solo today and looking to grab breakfast and relax. I found the seating awkward and a little uncomfortable. I was at a table between two merchandise shelves. The menu is great and prices are very reasonable. I opted for a coffee plus a bagel the "works", with cream cheese, tomatoes, capers and onions and added smoked salmon. It was only $11, including tip. The coffee wasn't quite hitting for me; not sure if they put more than a splash of milk. It was okay, but not a great coffee. The sandwich looked beautiful! It's huge and the onion and tomato were very fresh. It had a little too much cream cheese for me, but I think that's a personal preference and better to not skimp. The flavor was good, but I would have loved for the salmon to pop a little more. I will definitely give it another try. I'm not vegan or gluten free, but they had a huge assortment of items. An incredibly charming coffee shop in an area I don't get the chance to explore as often as I like! Great spot to write, get some work done, or meet up with someone. ***LOCATION*** Located in a strip mall in Bon Air on Buford Rd. There is a parking lot out front, so finding parking is very easy here. ***EXPERIENCE*** I love the vibe of this coffee shop. It's so cute. All the baristas who work here feel like a big family and greet you with warm smiling faces. There are nice treats you can pick from and it's very child friendly (there is a play section). The few times I've brought my laptop here, I've enjoyed it. While the drinks are very creative, I haven't found one that I would come back for. The times I've ordered their coffee drinks, the coffee comes out sour. Honestly I thought I already had a review for this spot so I didn't take photos and will update next time. I have to leave some words for this business because it is an absolute joy and is one of the few spots I go back to multiple times. They have a wonderful drink and food menu and above and beyond that they have the most incredible to go items and market that always has some culinary delights. What I will say is that I'm absolutely obsessed with the Buford vegan chicken wrap. It's absolutely to die for and brings me back to the chicken salad I grew up with as a kid. I am 100 percent always full after the first half and just can't stop myself from downing it all. Highly recommend it to vegetarians, vegans, and omnivores alike. Coffee is always fantastic and I particularly loved the flower bomb special today. A huge pastry case is filled with sweet, savory, and vegan goodies. The first 2 times I got it, so good. The next 3 varied from no flavor to dirty water flavor to burnt coffee. Bagels are so delicious, however their time management is one of worsts. The first time I went it took 25 minutes to get an everything bagel with cream cheese, literally just the bagel and cream cheese took that long and all of my lunch break. The second time I went I placed a mobile order an hour in advance and still had to wait an additional 20 minutes to the time I had placed to arrive. If you haven't been to Perk, I'm just going to assume that you don't live within driving distance. Now 8 years old, it is a distinctly cozy neighborhood coffee shop and lunch spot. Inclusive and loving, they have good coffee, good food, and good people working there. I have eaten far more than my share of coconut bars, tiny hand pies, and Friday's frittata, which gets fought over by pretty much everyone because there's never enough no matter how much they make. I occasionally wish there were more tables, in lieu of the shelves with local goods, but I can't be too upset when I can snag handmade greeting cards and local honey along with my pimento cheese sandwich for lunch to take home. So go! Try everything. And if you're going on Friday, go early and order ahead. read more

First time here. I will return, but I guess this was just a glitch that normally doesn't happen. The coffee I ordered was not super hot, more like tepid. I ordered a bagel with some fixings and selected whole wheat, and when it was ready I saw they used an "everything" bagel instead with the garlic, sesame seeds, poppy seeds. Thankfully I am ok but I do have a bit of an allergy to sesame seeds. I would return though because they have a wonderful dessert selection and can do salads and breakfast items too. Very cute place, friendly staff, community driven vibe. Small and cozy, a nice place for people to send emails or read while waiting for their treats. There is a nice, bright play area in the back corner for people with kiddos- super rare and super appreciated in this area. My only complaint and reason for a missing star is that my orders aren't consistently quality. it's a good place for basic bagel/smears and pastries but the other more complicated items leave room for improvement. With this said, will I return? yes. Would I recommend this place to people near Bon air? absolutely. if you're looking to travel for bagels with more oomf, I'd probably recommend Nate's or lamplighter. read more

I'm really confused as to how Perk has an average of 4.5 stars. The staff wasn't friendly at all. The bathrooms were not clean. The music is loud and terrible. We ordered three different breakfast sandwiches in a variety of configurations and combinations. They're all essentially on par with gas station food: the eggs are pre-made patties, the bacon is soggy and floppy, and the sausage patty has the sickly grey color of McDonalds-level quality. It all really adds up to a bad experience. If any one component had been pleasant, there may be a saving grace, but it was all really mediocre at best. read more

Perk is amazing and wonderful and cozy and everything you need in a coffee shop. I love love love the amazing staff here. They are so warm and welcoming. Walking in here feels like home! The place was buzzing when we came over the weekend for some lunch. They have kids meals which was perfect for us as we had our two kids in tow. We got two lunchboxes, a wrap, and a kombucha for $33 which was solid for a 3 person lunch. I got the turkey, bacon, and avocado wrap (minus the avocado because I am a heathen who doesn't like avo). It was great! Perfect veggie to protein ratio, and the sauce was bangin. I was also able to get a Ninja Kombucha (my new love) and enjoyed every sip. Updating after another great culinary experience today at Perk! I discovered the option for vegan cream cheese-- a lactose intolerant's dream :) Had a Fully Loaded everything bagel with vegan cream cheese (tomato, red onion, and capers) and it was divine. Indulged in a specialty coffee AND a vegan pastry, too. It made my day! Perk is a great gem in Bon Air. Coffee shop with lunch options and a small market area with locally made goods. I've gotten an Americano and it was very smooth. Not too acidic either. My friend and I ordered lunch to go and split a few items. Our first visit we had the turkey sandwich with jam and it was a bit dry. I was expecting the jam to moisten it up and for it to have a bit more protein, but it fell short. We also had the pimento cheese sandwich which was delicious! Lots of flavor and enough pimento to be satisfying, but not overbearing. I would get the pimento again. Our second visit we split a breakfast sandwich with sausage egg and cheese. It was good, but not outstanding. Your typical breakfast sandwich. I think I would give it a shot again. The strawberry balsamic salad came with goat cheese and a balsamic glaze. I really enjoyed the salad and the combination of ingredients in it. The greens were fresh too. The lox bagel good too; nice mix of cream cheese, capers, and onions. I would try the lox again for sure. I've had better from several other places, but I can't complain about fresh lox. My biggest pet peeve is when you can tell the fish has been sitting out a while and this was not the case with Perk! We also shared a lemon scone and a cheddar biscuit. Both were moist and flavorful. The cheddar biscuit was so savory and moist. 10/10 would get their pastries again. Of note, they offer prepared boxed lunches for gatherings that come with a dessert/cookie. The service at Perk is always great and they're very kind. Hey have plexiglass near the service area for COVID precaution and there is hand sanitizer available. I saw the team regularly cleaning the tables which are available outside. In the market area they have AR Southern honey, nightingale sandwiches, Favour cookie co cookie dough, Hannah's Handcrafted Elderberry syrup, Dayum this is My Jam picked as well as Jam, and much more. I'm a fan! I come here a couple of times a month to work when I need to get out of the house for a few hours. Their drinks and pastries are delicious and they actually have an impressive lunch menu. I really like this neighborhood coffee shop. It's everything you would want. I was fortunate to taste the fist cup of the fresh brewed dark roast Guatemalan, wow was it good. I had a toasted cinnamon and raisin bagel with cream cheese. This place has a very easy and relaxed vibe with plenty of off street parking since it's in strip center that's easy to get in and out of. I really want to like the place. It's cute, seems like a nice place to grab a coffee or tea and a quick bite, and I love how it seems to be mostly female-run. Today was my second visit and only one part of my order was right on the first try. I ordered a wrap lunchbox with coffee and a brownie and a breakfast sandwich. I didn't get the coffee until after I got the food and had to ask, in addition to having to confirm I wanted a brownie and not cake... for an additional charge. I never got the brownie, I got cake. I got two identical wraps on first attempt and had to ask for the breakfast sandwich. I never got my side of chips. No one should have to ask for their correct order 3-4 times in order to not be shortchanged. On top of all that, the service was very slow. I desperately want this place to become my morning coffee shop go to. The bagel sandwiches are solid (not NYC-good but let's tamper our expectations a little bit), the coffee is great, the location is awesome, the prices are excellent and c'mon people, let's support our small businesses. But all that said, not matter how hard I try to will it into existence, I just can't justify coming back because every time, it is so...so....slow. Especially when you order food (which is sad because the food's tasty!). Every time, I just assume I have bad luck because this place has been around for a while so I must just be catching them on a bad day. But somehow, I can't seem to visit without it taking more minutes than I expect. My most recent example? Sunday morning. I know it's going to be slow (duh, it's a weekend). They know it's going to be slow (I was even warned when I ordered, "your food it will probably take 10-15 minutes"). But I didn't expect it to take 10 minutes for an iced coffee and 37 minutes for two sausage, egg and cheese bagels. I mean, when I went up to check after 25 minutes I'd assumed I had missed my name being called but nope, bagels were still in progress. It's obvious the folks behind the counter are working hard and are doing things as fast as they can which is why I keep holding out hope. But at the end of the day, I just can't commit to stopping in for coffee and a bagel sandwich knowing there's a reasonable chance I'll spend upwards of 30-45 minutes there. read more

You have to try the vegan blueberry walnut coffee cake...I am craving it! The cold brew with oat milk is perfect. My husband spoke highly of the mocha and raspberry lemon coffee cake. The staff were all super friendly and worked efficiently to get me my order and get my on my way. Perk! has plenty of plant based options in addition to sweets, bagels, and sandwiches. There's also a large drink menu of cold and hot beverages. You can also pick up some gifts for yourself or others from their display of items from local artisans. It's a one stop shop!
