Local artist merchandise

Coffee Shop No. 398 The Local Cup Coffee Company Merchanicsville, VA August 10, 2024 I visited The Local Cup Coffee Company on a Saturday morning. As I pulled into the parking spot I noticed many folks walking in and out of the shop; the place looked packed. After ordering my cortado I found a comfy chair and people watched, but not out the window like I normally do. I sat and observed the interactions of the folks in The Local Cup. The employees behind the counter knew the customers that walked through their doors. The customers seemed excited to engage with the employees. The Local Cup gave off a wonderful community vibe. There were two tall shelving units with merchandise and art from local artists; which is always a favorite feature of mine in coffee shops. Now for the important part...the cortado. The Local Cup roasts their beans in house. The cortado was not the prettiest I've ever received, but man was it delicious. The barista cut the espresso nearly perfect which will result with a frothy layer of milk instead of foam. It was so yummy. The Local Cup is the sort of coffee shop I wish I had in my neighborhood. The kinda place that would shout, "Jen!" as I walked through the doors. I group up in the 80's. The sitcom Cheers was a big part of my life. I always wanted to grow up to be like Norm and have a place where "every body knows your name". Enjoying life one cortado at a time!

I prefer a more intimate setting to a coffee shop. This one is more of an industrial farmhouse vibe. It felt a bit stark and cold, although I did find one comfy nook. I was craving some nice pastries to go with my tea, but the choices were quite limited. The few baked goods in the case didn't look very appealing. I ended up getting a cookie, which was too doughy for my taste. I'd love to see more food options, although they do provide a small breakfast menu of a couple egg sandwiches and such. The selection of coffees looked tantalizing if you're a Java lover, I prefer the teas. I ordered a pot of Earl Grey which was pleasant. They sometimes have live music which is a draw. My overall impression was an average coffee shop, but it's nice to have a Local Cup of Joe in the neighborhood. I loved the Little Free Library out front and helped myself to a volume of Henry James!

The service was great and I got my drinks quite quickly, despite the busyness. The interior was aesthetically pleasing and there was plenty of comfortable seating. I found the Mocha to be too sweet for my liking. But the Dirty Chai Latte was great!

Chilled little coffee shop here in VA. Lots of indoor and some outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Definitely stop in and check them out

The older I get the more I want happy, friendly service -- and if it comes with great coffee even better! I found this place on YELP close to my hotel. It's in a totally random strip mall that isn't so nice but the inside is bright, spacious, and super clean. Staff could not have been more gracious and nice! I ordered the Honey Lavender Latte extra hot. The latte needed one more pump of honey, which they gave me for free, and then it tasted just as I wanted it. I also got a coffee cake. A little bit dry but it might have been the batch. Otherwise super tasty!!!!

Mechanicsville has a long standing reputation for being a traditional town, which usually means that if you're looking for a good cup of coffee, Starbucks is the best you can do, without going into Richmond. As a native, I was pleasantly surprised of having a local roaster! Kind service, ample parking, with couches and seating to meet with a friend or WFH/study. It's rustic vibe is accurate to Mechanicsville. My only comment is that they were out of oat milk, but they have other alternatives (coconut, soy and almond) in the meantime! Thank you, Local Cup!

Ice Matcha Latte w/ Soy Milk

This coffee shop is a bit out of the way for me, but I always love having the chance to visit places I don't frequent as much in the Richmond area. It's a very cute cafe with lots of natural lighting. The baristas are extremely sweet and helpful here. It seems like a very big spot for locals in the area. It's a great place to get work done. They have reliable wifi and a lot of tables. It's a good spot to meet someone or go to by yourself. The coffee itself is ok. My boyfriend got a latte and was very neutral about it, saying it was fine. I tried their matcha latte this time around and wasn't pleased. This was my mistake, but I've worked at a coffee shop and have found that people who don't like matcha usually don't make it the way I like. When I asked the barista her thoughts on her matcha there, she was very sweet in letting me know that she didn't like it, but that customers said it was their favorite in town. I ordered an iced matcha latte with soy and the powder was barely mixed. There were a lot of powdery chunks, so I asked if they were able to mix it more. The barista was nice and gave me a new one. Although I was happy to have my matcha more mixed (it was still a little chunky, but not terribly so), I wouldn't order their matcha again. I think I still haven't found the right matcha in Richmond yet. Something I've been here for more than once is their liege waffles. I'm a sucker for these Belgian treats. The ones here are sweet and fluffy. They'll even warm it up for you if you ask! If you're in the area and in the mood for a coffee drink, The Local Cup is a good local place to stop at.

Sausage egg and cheese biscuit

Some friends and I came here for coffee today at the recommendation of one of them. They said this was their favorite coffee spot and I can see why. We were immediately greeted upon entering. When placing an order, they were sure to ask about any dairy/creamer, syrups, and whipped cream options. Their prices are very reasonable, especially with being a small business. I love that they make some of the syrups in house, as well as the coffee beans are done in house. Their food options are pretty standard for a coffee shop but that are so delicious! I got the sausage egg and cheese biscuit. Not only was it a large portion, it tasted delicious! The best breakfast sandwich I've had. It was so big I could barely take a whole bite of it. For my first coffee, I got the cold brew with lavender and honey syrup plus almond milk. It was the right balance of dairy to syrup. My friend ordered a large dulce de leche and it looked so amazing. On the way home, I got my mom a latte to go and also got a cinnamon latte for me. Everything was just so good. It's a nice space inside with a lot of sofas and tables to sit at. There's even a corner for kids to play and sit down. We were here for a while catching up and we didn't get rushed to leave at all. They even let you bring in dogs if they're well behaved, so we had people coming up to pet my friend's dog. They even asked if he could have a pup cup and wrote his name on it. I'm so glad I found out about this place because I will definitely be back frequently.

The cutest vibes here! I love the studying/working and kid playtime areas. Their drinks were pretty good but a little too sweet for me. The barista was super helpful and was always ready to answer my questions.

Really enjoyed my iced coffee and blueberry muffin! I also loved the fact that they had a kids little play area. I've been looking for a place to go to enjoy coffee and that is kid friendly, would highly recommend!

Waiting for a cup of joe.

The Latte and scone were delicious. Cool place too to relax for a bit. If it were closer to me it might become my go to place.

The ambiance of the cafe is alright but the coffee itself is just bad and overpriced. I try and avoid coming here if I can.
