Granted, we were there during a busy time, but it seems they could have turned off their overhead music which just added to the noise. My co workers and I are regulars here now. It is very close to work and we work night shift so when we want some breakfast at 8am when we get off work, this is the place we have been coming to. They all love it here. Service is great, the servers are nice and answer all our questions. We have been sitting outside since it is not too hot in the morning. It looks really beautiful outside. The traditional is my go to but we are always trying different things on the menu. Their potatoes are seasoned and cooked well. This place gets busy so I would suggest getting there early or joining the line virtually before you head out. We joined the line so we were able to be seated as soon as we arrived. I utilized the online menu to help me make decisions since I'm a picture menu person. The decorated ambiance is nice. They got a variety of options. I got the pomegranate sunrise. Came for breakfast with our toddler. It's been our go to with her. They have a really nice kids menu and they have crayons for drawing while you wait. Food always comes out quickly. My lunch sandwich was the ham and Gruyère on a Texas toast grilled bread. I don't believe I'm being overly critical in this review but consider it more as constructive criticism. My first thought was the sandwich bread ( Texas toast), was overwhelming the content of the sandwich and in an era of dietary carbohydrates this sandwich would be far better served on sourdough, it has far better flavor and is more appropriate for the ham / Gruyère. The sandwich served to me didn't even have the cheese melted which gave the Gruyère no flavor at all. The condiment sauce was too strong a flavor for the primary ingredient (ham/cheese), actually taking away from the overall flavor. Leave the condiment sauce to a Dijon mustard and forget the other stuff. All in all this menu item needs repair in a big way. I LOVE this place. Im a power-breakfast kind of guy, and almost every time I go here Im not disappointed. But my recent visit left me a little sad. I decided to try the eggs Benedict Florentine. Now to be fair eggs beni is probably the most challenging to make for a line cook, timing is everything. This particular version had several cold fresh items on it (spinach, tomato and avocado) so a heat lamp is out limits if you the presentation to look fresh. The eggs were poached PERFECTLY, however once they were stacked on top of the cold veggies, guess what happened to the egg temp.? I could overlook that but what came next killed it for me. I know that there is no way that the hollandaise sauce is homemade. It mostly likely came from a powder mixed with hot water. What was sad was the chef most likely did not test the sauce flavor before adding it to the top. The sauce had no flavor whatsoever. It lacked the "twang" of one or more of the acids that are crucial in a proper hollandaise sauce. So, needless to say I don't think I'll order the eggs beni again next time. I'll stick to all the other fantastic stuff they have. Sorry for the long review. My hope is that the chef may see this and maybe make some changes. read more

This First Watch is similar to others, fine service and consistent food. The server was polite and responsive. The food took a bit to come out due to the busy time we were there, but all of the food was a good temperature. The restaurant is a little on the noisy side, the modern look of the restaurant gives it high ceilings and nothing to absorb sound. Weekend brunch is certainly not a place to go with an elderly grandparent that has trouble hearing. When the restaurant is a little less busy I imagine the noise level is much better. Definitely good for groups up to about 10. The parking situation leaves something to be desired. There is a small parking lot out front and if you drive around for a bit you will likely get a spot. Be cautious about doing delivery! Received a Farmhouse Hash with most of the onions burnt. Since they were mixed throughout the meal, it was impossible to get them all out. I was starving and had nothing else, so I ate what I could, which was about half. Ended up with a stomach ache all night afterward. Payed a lot of money for that stomach ache. First time today. I don't see what all the fuss is about. It was... average. I thought every dish at our table had very high potential, but each item fell short of great. The biggest issue was with the seasoning. I had the Chorizo-Chili omelette. To be blunt: The sour cream on top of the omelette was the most flavorful thing on the plate. I could tell there were green chilis in there, but more would have been appreciated. There was chorizo, but not enough to really nail the chorizo angle of the dish. And the egg was simply flat-tasting. Once I seasoned with a little salt and pepper the dish perked up and was good. I had the cheesy grits and it was kind of the same situation: The grits were cooked perfectly; creamy and the melted cheese on top was really a nice (and unique!) touch. But seriously under-seasoned. Again, a dash of salt and pepper and they were seriously improved. The Skillet Hash was maybe one egg, but a LOT of potato. Very light on the bacon, onion, tomato, etc... And, again, needed a little better seasoning from the kitchen. The coffee is good: Strong, dark, hot. And the pot is left on the table, so no hoping for the server to come by for a refill. That was appreciated. I gotta give props to the toast. Whatever seeded bread they serve, I could eat a loaf of. Really flavorful and a great mouth feel, lightly toasted. And the service was GREAT! Never did we wait for anything, but we didn't feel like we were being hovered over, either. I think the prices are a little higher than they need to be. Twelve bucks for an omelette so light on ingredients (and flavor) is a little out of line. The do have a really wide selection of dishes, and everything on the menu, breakfast or lunch dish, is available any time they are open, so that's a plus. Next time we're in the RVA we may stop here again, but I feel like there are better options. I know it's covid times but I'd give zero reviews if I could. I ordered the eggs Benedict - classic. First time I got no yolk on one "poached egg" and a hard boiled egg on the other. They refired it. On the refire I was given one almost raw egg and one between poached and raw. And they took my potatoes and never gave me any back after the refire. So basically I ate a little ham with raw egg. The hollandaise sauce was also watery and weird. You can see from my photos it's almost clear. They did take the egg Benedict off the bill. But at that point I was so frustrated and my parents had finished their meal I just wanted to leave. Never going back. Update: I was actually hungry so I went to wawa. Took less time and my average ham and cheese bagel was better and edible. This is a harsh review and the staff was generally friendly. However, being given two inedible plates, having the little bit of edible food taken away, and everyone else had finished their meals by the time I was given my second inedible dish... I love breakfast food, so I was really hoping to love First Watch. Unfortunately, I had a really underwhelming experience this past weekend that ended with me leaving the restaurant without ever receiving my meal. I met 2 of my friends on Saturday morning before I had to go to work. I went online and added my name to the queue at 8:30 to be seated at 9:00. I arrived to the restaurant at 8:45 and checked in with the hostess. She said she would seat us shortly, and I asked for an estimated time as I had to be off to work at 10:30. She said there would be a 5-10 minute wait to be seated. We were not seated until 9:30. The waitress came over promptly and we placed our orders immediately after letting her know we needed to be on our way at 10:30. She took our order and then we didn't see her very much after. My friend ordered a cocktail to go with her brunch and it took 45 minutes to come out to the table. Despite checking in on our food a few times and being told they were getting it out as quickly as possible, 10:30 came and went and I didn't see any of my food. I ended up having to leave for work and never got to eat. Thankfully, Chickfila is nearby and I was able to get breakfast on my way to work. After all of that, my friends eventually received their food. Despite asking the waitress to just cancel my order, it was brought out to my friends and they were billed for it. One of my friends never received her bacon and the other was charged incorrectly. First Watch was cranking out to go orders like crazy and I think that was part of the problem. Bacon and eggs shouldn't take that long to make, so I'm disappointed I couldn't get my food. I was excited when I learned about this First Watch here in Midlothian because I had visited one in Florida that was excellent. It had a similar rustic meets industrial vibe but it was super loud in there! I could barely hear my table mate across from me. The service was fair. Brandy was adequate but not efficient. I asked for Earl Grey tea, she brings me a tea caddy with different choices but no Earl Grey. I asked again and she brought some out to me. We asked for extra napkins, never got them. Later after we ate, she cleared our plates and dropped our check on the table. I pulled my card out and had it on the table. She walked by several times and just breezed by us. Finally I motioned to her and asked, "Oh, do we take this up ourselves?" She replied sharply, "You do!" (Eye roll). Okaaaayyy... well, i wasn't aware. The one in Florida took the bill up for us. When she gave us our checks, she could've said politely, "Here ya go, they'll take that for you up front. Have a good one!" Is it just me, or has customer service gone down hill? The food was fair as well. I ordered a simple, basic breakfast. My eggs weren't cooked the way I requested but I didn't send them back. The turkey sausage was ok. The grits were ok. The cinnamon chip pancake was dry. It tasted more like a cookie. I asked if they serve real maple syrup and she said yes, but they charge for it. They charge $1.29 for a 2 oz. bottle. I only used a tablespoon or so. What a rip. And you know I took the rest home for that price. For a restaurant that touts organic, local, all natural, etc. you'd think they'd offer real maple syrup at no cost at all! Lost a few brownie points there. By the way, the trash receptacle in the restroom was overflowing, and it was just noon. For a spot that only serves breakfast and lunch, it was obvious they didn't clean the facilities that day. The smaller stall has no hook for your purse, so ladies watch your balance as you hover... All and all, I was underwhelmed. 2 1/2 stars in my book. Food finally came at 1:03. It was cooked well! Woohoo! I had the elevated egg sandwich. It's my favorite. Not a big fan of the potatoes. They always seem a bit undercooked to me. Hubby likes them though. His eggs Benedict had one egg cooked right and one overdone. Better than the last 3 times we came! To this day I'm not sure what the hell "brunch" is or why it's so worshipped. I think people are more in love with the idea brunch than the type of food served. First Watch is a charming place for brunch. It has this rustic charm decorated with wooden pallets and baskets adorned with Edison light bulbs that hang from the ceiling. Going to First Watch gave me extreme hesitation after reading the Yelp reviews. I also had friends who said it was just OK for them. The wait for this place is absurd. Either everyone here is delusional or the food is worth the wait. The only way to find out was to go here myself. The Yelp App allows you to add your name to the wait list. This was my first time using this feature and it rocked! We maybe waited 10 minutes and then were seated right at the peak of "brunch" time. There was a decent wait time and my temper started to slowly bubble inside me. Patience is a virtue. The food arrived and it was both hot and delicious. The Million Dollar Bacon is probably the best bacon I've ever had, and I've had A LOT of bacon in my life. Sarah wasn't too impressed with her Elevated Egg Sandwich. My Farm Stand Breakfast Tacos on the other hand were excellent. She took one bite and knew she should have picked this. Your happiness mileage will greatly depend on what you pick. I suppose if I ordered the egg sandwich I would probably feel compelled to hand out a lower rank. Maybe that's why the current Yelp rating sits at 3.5?
