I've been going to First Watch for a few years now, and I always enjoy my brunch there (honestly haven't come for any other meal!). My review would have been a 4-star because my family and I have always enjoyed our meals here. However, I have to deduct a star for my most recent visit; I have a complaint about their app and their Join the waitlist option. This past Saturday, my friend and I were in Fairfax and decided to grab a meal. I suggested First Watch, and she said "oh they're great, but there's always a long wait for a table on a weekend!" I told her I had the app, and they have this Join the Waitlist option to cut down on the wait time! We were close to the Government Center, about 4-5 miles away. I fired up the app, and selected the join the waitlist button. I entered our party of two for the Greenbrier location, and was quoted an estimated wait time of 30 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes later, and we waited in the queue to check in at the register. The gentleman found our name on the list, and said he'd text when our table was ready. He did NOT quote us a wait time, and we assumed it was the same 30 minutes forecasted in the app just 10 minutes prior. My friend and I went outside and started chatting, enjoying the nice weather. We noticed a long time had passed. There were two tables outside that needed to be cleared but were no longer occupied. We went back inside, and could see about 10 empty tables that were already cleared and reset. When we got to the register, we spoke to the gentleman who checked us in and asked how much longer our wait would be. At this point, it had been just over 50 minutes! He looked on his screen, and replied, "you were quoted 45-60 minutes" to which I corrected, "no the app told me 30 minutes, and you didn't quote me anything actually!" He then proceeded to argue with me, showing how his computer had my name down for 45 to 60 minutes. I wasn't debating what he was reading on the screen; I was debating the fact that I joined the waitlist and was quoted a 30 minute wait. (In hindsight I should have taken a damn screenshot of it, since he wouldn't take my word for it!) I didn't just walk in off the street; I did the check-in ahead option! Yet I could see the couple who arrived just ahead of us, another party of two but who did not do the "join the waitlist" option, were being seated!! If we had known there was an hour wait, because indeed it was 70 minutes before we were texted that our table was ready (yes, exceeding even the 45-60 forecast!), we would have opted to go elsewhere. Clearly there is a disconnect between the apps join the waitlist option, and the computer system they are using at the register to queue the waitlist. Adding insult to injury was the argument that was necessary with the gentleman at the register. I could see he was working very hard and it was a very busy time, but I was misquoted a time and rather than argue about it, he could have apologized and maybe expedited things. I was not being impatient or unkind in my tone or my request for service. And like I said, they were beyond even the 60 minute mark in seating us. If the gentleman was not in a position to help, perhaps he could've called over a manager to address our issues. Maybe even an apology and a free coffee for our trouble would have been better than what we actually experienced. So if you end up using the join waitlist option via their app, be sure to take a screenshot of your quoted wait time and make sure it's the same as what is quoted by their system at the register. Otherwise it is of no benefit to use it if you are getting quoted the same time as the guy or gal coming right off the street. Also you could use some better signage above the register if there are separate queues to pay your check vs get on a waitlist for a table; vs picking up a to-go order. We were shoulder to shoulder with a crowd of people, no specific lines, and everyone confused as to where they're supposed to go. A little chaotic. read more

(Incomplete as missing items, and improperly prepared) My omelette from today had whole slices of ham in my omelette. It was insisted that this is the typical Ham and Gruyère omelette. Update: I spoke with a GM. He is working with this location to establish better consistency and quality. He invited me to return. read more

This first watch location is my favorite in the area. Lots of space between tables, fast service, and great food! All of the menu items are priced well and you get great portions. The orange juice is definitely fresh and the coffee is okay. All the food is fresh too. The only thing that can be a little difficult is checking out with a group that is splitting the check as you have to do it at the host stand and it can get kind of crowded in that area especially when they are busy. read more

We tried this place on a decently busy weekend morning. We didn't know to call ahead to be placed on the list but the wait time wasn't too bad. This place is a bit fancier than I expected but they didn't have linen napkins. So it wasn't that fancy, but I am a pretty simple person. Now to the food: overall very good! They had maple bacon side special which melted in my mouth. I got the pumpkin pie pancake and it was festive and tasty. They served warm syrup. One of my two eggs was over cooked (asked for Med and the yolk was cooked through), but I'm not that picky about it. Serving sizes were generous and we both had leftovers. The waiter was friendly. We didn't have enough room on our table for all of our drinks and food. They give a coffee pot and water jug. It's nice to not have to ask for refills but space became a slight issue. First Watch is one of my favorite vegetarian friendly brunch spots in Northern Virginia. Being a chain, I was a little skeptical at first but First Watch delivers every single time. All of their dishes are packed with flavor and loads of fresh and healthy ingredients creating the perfect balanced meal. They also have so much variety that you can try a different dish on the menu each time until you find your favorite. My favorite dishes to date are the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (seasonal) and the Market Veggie sandwich. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes are seasonal, so check online or call in before hand if you want to try them! They're some of the fluffiest pancakes I've had and pair so well with the lemon ricotta cream and strawberries. The dish holds the perfect amount of sweetness and is super filling. The Market Veggie Sandwich also always satisfies. It's made up of house-roasted crimini mushrooms, zucchini, spinach, pesto, mayo, and mozzarella cheese on grilled artisan whole grain. The sandwich is light yet filling and pairs super well with their basil backed tomato soup! If you're an egg person and are looking for a sandwich alternative, I recommend trying out the The Elevated Egg Sandwich. It's made up of over-easy eggs, gruyere cheese, smashed avocado, mayo, and lemon-dressed arugula on a brioche bun. The sandwich is egg-tastic but not as filling as other options. Always a good place to grab a quick, consistent breakfast. It's a chain restaurant so the food isn't fancy but has several healthier and organic options versus an IHOP or similar. It gets packed after 10 on the weekends, so come early or use their queuing function to join the wait list on their website. read more

Super cute spot for brunch or lunch date. Food is always delicious and the atmosphere is everything. I love walking into restaurants or cafes that make you feel like you're on vacation somewhere and this is one of them. They stay busy so make sure to book your reservations here, on Yelp. They also close around like 2:30pm but never make you feel rushed. Customer service has always been great. The Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict is good but nothing to rave about. I've been to First Watch twice now and both were very good experiences! The first one I went to was in Charlottesville, VA and that was where I had my first breakfast burritos actually liked! So much that I thought it was the best thing I ate that day and would get again! The chia seed bowl I got was also really good. The second time was yesterday during the new soft opening in the Falls Church location (photos shown here). Came alone for brunch since I was up here for work. Check in service was easy online and I got seated in the time frame quoted. Once seated it took the server ten minutes to even come take a drink order, this was accurate as the seating was time stamped in my texts. After he took my drink order, a Bloody Mary and water, it took another 10 minutes to even bring the water. I also received my Bloody Mary at that time and he took my food order. While waiting to the 30 minutes for the food no one even checked on me much less asked me if I wanted a refill on my drink. A different server brought out my food and when I asked her she told me they don't check on customers for drinks. At that point I asked for a manager. AJ was kind but the experience was terrible. This place is in a shopping center. You can check in online before arriving about 10-15 minutes prior to your arrival and when you get there your table is pretty much ready. Great atmosphere, if only it was in a little cottage/old town it would have been 10 starts. Good was excellent I ordered the Avocado toast and it was phenomenal. We tried to pay with a gift card and they said that the gift cards were not going through and they were sorry. The main reason we went to First Watch was because we had a gift card. For this place you are gonna need to make a reservation online or else you will be waiting for a good hour as this is a local hit. The wait sucks even with me making the reservation I still had to wait 34 min. The food was good I got a mimosa and the chickichikiconga. The mimosa was amazing and I think it's because of the champagne they give you pairs perfectly with the OJ, along with that the food meets all the criteria that a brunch place should be. Even with a full building the wait time wasn't very long after we ordered probs about 20 minutes. My friend and her cousins go here ALL the time and tell me how good it is. Finally stopped by and wasn't disappointed. The wait is....well just be prepared to wait for at least an hour if you're lucky. My take on this place: a glorified IHOP. I think this is my new local favorite brunch place. The atmosphere is warm, and the menu has classics as well as trends of the hour, like grain bowls and avocado toast. It is very crowded on the weekend, but don't be deterred by the wait time because they said it would be an hour and then literally texted us within five minutes! I liked everything I saw on the menu!!!!! I can't resist a traditional egg/meat/pancakes spread, French toast if I'm feeling it, but I also...am very tempted by breakfast protein bowls. So I had the quinoa bowl with sausage and egg and parm. There is a special carnitas bowl with cornbread, but it felt too close to lunch. The pancakes looked so tempting, my friend and I ordered one to split, and that half of a multigrain blueberry pancake was extremely satisfying. My quinoa bowl had a bit of a tang to it and was on the saltier side; I think I would have liked it with less acid and salt and maybe something like corn or avocado to offset it. Yes I am thinking of carnita bowl elements. But it was still very tasty. The million dollar bacon was unexpectedly great, with a nice crisp crunch while still having a full, not-too-fatty, sweet and salty flavor. Overall I'm just really pleased that the location is convenient, the food is delicious, and the prices are totally reasonable. Please get more creative chefs and not home cooks. Stop leaving the condiments on the table, ketchup and hot sauce are usually to be refrigerated after opening. I used the ketchup with it's sticky bottle and it had a disgusting spoiled taste, ruined my meal. Get packets insted!!! read more

First Watch has never missed! I've been here many many times for brunch and they are always quick, quality, and great customer service. My wife always get their salmon eggs Benedict which are fire! I switch it up always but this time I got the biscuits and turkey sausage with gravy which were absolutely fire. I couldn't eat much else for the rest of the day tho! I always get their kale juice that they offer and coffee. We live in New Jersey but come to VA to visit my girlfriend's daughter. Five months ago, we came here for the first time and was amazed by the whole experience. So we wanted to go back again this time. So glad we did!!! It was a Saturday morning so there was about an hour wait but because of the location, there are so many other shops to peruse while you wait for the text that you're table is ready. The food was amazing! The waiter and host were on the game. The vibe of the place just makes you feel good. I can't possibly say enough good things about this restaurant. Need to know: 1. Service is not their strong suit. Don't get me wrong, they're kind. Also, if they make a mistake in the order, they are quick to fix it with no problems. However, the efficiency of the service is hit or miss. 2. The potatoes are really good. Yes, they are probably doused with salt, but they taste exceptional! 3. You pay the check at the counter and not at the table. This is just something to be aware of so you don't sit at the table waiting for the server to take your payment. Omg the food! I've heard about this place a lot but never had a chance to go until recently. I had heard the wait time was insane - so did the waiting list on Yelp and so glad we did! I was able to go and check in, and seated within 5 minutes of check in. We ordered a little bit of everything and the dishes did not disappoint. My kids got double servings they enjoyed it so much! The service was abysmal. The girl with a tattoo who delivered our food overlooked to include our silverware which is fine but we waited patiently for 15 minutes, but our request remained unattended. She was right next to us, talking to the customer and ignoring us. Feeling frustrated, we approached the host stand and requested the silverware but he was totally obnoxious about it. We really wanted brunch food on a Sunday so came to check out this place with tons of good reviews - it was underwhelming. At about 2PM, we had a 10min wait - it was frustrating because the restaurant was only 2/3 full, so why the wait? We ordered a tri-fecta and the traditional. Both were decent. I thought the 1 sausage link given to you for the tri-fecta was laughable - at least give a couple to fill up the plate. It comes off as cheap. My utensils had gunk left on the knife and fork, had to ask for new ones. Our server brought us our check before we were even finished with our plates, but told us to take our time. I'm a ha(bee) bee bzz bzz, this place was pretty sweet shall I say! The service is pretty fast and the seats are spaced out, but it is still pretty full during weekend mornings. The farmhouse skillet was perfect, within 15 minutes it was hot and fresh. It wasn't too oily and the potatoes weren't too hot to the point you can't eat them. I come here after a workout since I love my carbs and the avocado is a plus, the multi grain bread is also hands down SO freaking good. I'd buy a loaf if I could. read more

Was looking for a great place that did late breakfast/brunch. You go in and the place kind of has that NYC vibe meets rustic look. You sit down and the wait staff greets you with a friendly greeting and hands you the menu. There are a ton of choices from your basic eggs, frittatas, all sorts of omelets, pancakes and more. The food was super quick for being packed and hot and delicious. I got the chile chorizo omelette and it was so good nice and spicy but not too spicy with a small salad of greens in vinaigrette dressing that paired super well with it and two thick slabs of multi grain bread. My cousins got the farmhouse skillet hash (no onions) and frittata rustica (no onions) both super delicious as well. If you're looking for a great place for breakfast/brunch run don't walk this place will not disappoint. read more

This was the second time I had been to a First Watch. The first visit in Newport News was great. I was excited to come have breakfast at First Watch again. While on our way to Centreville, we stopped at this location. Its deeper into a shopping center so it was a little harder to find but there is ample parking. Since it was only 2 of us, the wait wasn't very long. It wasn't overly crowded either. The space at this location was bigger. Despite all this, service was a tad bit slow. I ordered the Bacado omelet, which came with a mixed green salad. My boyfriend ordered The Works omelet. Our food came out but my boyfriend got the wrong order. On top of that, my omelet wasn't very warm. The pico that came with it tasted like nothing more than diced tomatoes. The salad barely had any dressing so I asked for some Ranch on the side. My boyfriend had to wait for his new omelet and I'm still waiting on dressing. I wanted to wait for his food and the dressing but if I have waited any longer, my omelet would have gotten colder. My omelet was bland taste. There was much more avocado than bacon, which probably explains the lack of warmed. I ended up having to ask for dressing a second time and it finally came after my omelet was gone. And my boyfriend finally got his correct omelet after I pretty much ate my meal. I don't know if the kitchen was understaffed but they need to work on time management and if orders are accurate before they send them out. While I was happy that I was fed, I didn't necessarily enjoy my food or experience. Not a location I would visit again. read more

First Watch is in its class all on its own. They care about their patrons, they care about their staff, and they care aboit their comminity. I've been coming here about 12 -13 years! Their food is wonderful. You think you can probably make what they make at home, but qhen you are served your first dish, you'd be school! Each item can probably be made at home, but i dont think you'd come close to the taste, texture, and presentation of the food. Their casual friendly customer service provides an ambiance of comfort, you won't get at home! Love them! P.S. Because they truly care about their staff they do close at 2:30, but dont worry. I believe they open at 6:30 in the morning! Make sure to use the Yelp wait in line feature if you dont want to wait for long lengths of time. read more
