Personally, I like my massages with the least amount of talking. I went twice for a pregnancy massage with a major pain point in my shoulder and upper back. Between the never ending conversations and the fact the the pain remained for 3 weeks after, it feels like I didn't get much out of getting a massage, "me time" or trying to relax. Jonathan responded to my Yelp message within the hour and fit me into the schedule on short notice. I swim, bike, run and go to Orangetheory...so muscle pain in no stranger. I was really looking for a therapist who understood the body and the pain of an athletic person. Jonathan, the owner, was just that. Not your typical Massage Envy therapist going through a routine that provides no relief! Prior to my actual massage he spent a ton of time getting to know my fitness routine and areas of my body causing me problems. He took his time and explained his technique and why he was doing what he did. He's an expert for sure and relieved so much of my pain in the time we had. Scott was my massage therapist and he was amazing. I was long overdue for a massage and lucky for me we were able to add on an additional 30 minutes. As a physically disabled person and athlete, my body has uncontrollable tension and spasticity that is very difficult to work with and cope with. My needs for relief and rehab are high due to the consistent strain I deal with in training and life. I generally go to massage to massage parlors expecting simple work and short-term relief of tension and pain while feeling somewhat dis-satisfied. Firm Hands was the complete opposite of that. The staff is highly trained, personable and amenable to your needs. I requested the SPORTS MASSAGE for 90 mins at $180. It was money well spent, our bodies need to be cared for and firm hands definitely delivers. My masseuse specialized in working with people with disabilities!! Who else provides that?? Had my first visit with Jonathan and I am extremely pleased with my massage. I came in with a lot of pain due to the extreme tightness in my shoulders, back, pecs, traps, and neck. The night before the pain was unbearable and I scheduled an appointment through Yelp. The next morning Jonathan promptly gave me his availability and I set up an appointment. I really appreciated how easy scheduling an appointment was with him. The ambiance of the room was nice and I liked the jazz music that was playing. Omg, I am so thankful I found this place on yelp. I have been having issues with trap/shoulder/arm and low back issues. I messaged Jonathan on yelp and we connected via a call to speak about my ailments. I recently learned about trigger point therapy and was recommended to get a shiatsu massage. I also thought sports massage was just for athletes and I am no way athletic. He quickly corrected my misconception. After a phone conversation, he recommended a sports massage with a mix of some trigger point therapy. I booked for both myself and my husband. Because we did not have a sitter, we brought my baby with us. I went in first and then my husband went after. Cool how He recommend an extra 15 minutes with yelp or 15% off. I ultimately chose the additional 15 minutes. At first, I was kind of worried of him pairing myself and husband with Scott since Jonathan is the one every raves about and he's the owner. However, that worry went away within the first 10mins of therapy. He really focused on my problem shoulders/neck and arms/low back. I did write calves as a problem area but once he worked my upper part, my lower auto released. It was the weirdest thing. The pressure and combination of sports stretching, trigger point, and shiatsu made such a HUGE difference in the relief experience. Scott worked up a sweat due to my need for pain and a FIRM HAND. I worked up slight sweat from the pain-which resulted in great pain relief. After the massage, my shoulder tension and arm pain was finally relieved. He did recommend for routine therapy for maintenance but I told him I am more of a PRN (as needed) type of gal. He respected and did not push for a membership sale. He even taught me a self maintenance stretch in between treatments. After the massage, I was able to speak to owner Jonathan and Anesha. They are really nice folks. Jonathan definitely loves what he does and is highly motivated to provide the best care to his clients. My misconception: this is not a place with serene music and waterfalls type of massage place. Scott plays good music but the pain is real. No pain, no gain! I was not able to sleep during the massage but my knots and trigger points were relieved by 95%. I'll take this any day over fancy massage parlor music and waterfall sounds. Pros: easy to book. 7 days a week by appointment. Yelp check in for additional 15mins or 15% off your treatment. No gimmicks and great pain/tension relief. Cons: Place is a bit small. Asked if there was A/C, Anesha said the rooms have A/C but the office area and entrance up the stairs does not if you come on a weekend. The a/c main switch is in the dentist office downstairs so, if they're closed on the weekend, no A/C to lobby area. I can see the summers being a bit hard to bare but at least the rooms have a fan and some air. Parking is on the street. I heard there's a structure somewhere close but definitely difficult. I got lucky on a Sunday when the MD office was closed. Otherwise I would have gotten towed parking under their building. Besides the few of cons, it is a great place for effective treatment. I regret that I took so long to post this review - I honesty forgot to do it. I saw Jonathan first almost a year ago now. I was in pretty rough shape from a number of old sports and other injuries. And I'm a big guy so it's usually very difficult to find someone who can work my body in a meaningful way. Jonathan was a life saver. I recently came to see Jonathan a few days after a lengthy hill workout and was left wanting more, meaning he was awesome and an hour wasn't enough. This was the first time I had a specialty massage, which is a massage geared towards your needs and includes a bit of stretching. I probably should have inquired about pricing beforehand as it's the most expensive massage I've ever paid for ($144 with tip), but it was worth it for me at the time and in the end. My body definitely needed it and I'm pretty sure I would've leaned away from it had I known how much it would have cost me. That said, his services and pricing are clearly listed on his website and you're definitely getting what you pay for. Anyway, I'm glad I did it, because I now know this type of work is an option for me and actually works for me. Outside of that, Jonathan is just a great massage therapist. He's attentive, respectful and his massage was what I would describe as purposeful. Each movement had a purpose was was helpful to loosening my tight muscles. On top of this, Jonathan has a great personality, sense of humor and zen about him I appreciate as a person. He just moved to this location, because he wanted to be closer to the water and the energy and connotations it has. I also noticed what looked to be clear quartz crystal, a known healing crystal, under the table which leads me to believe he's really does have a holistic view on health (I gathered as much from our conversation), which I think is great. I witnessed the masseuse back up into a car out front while parking because she was in such a rush to get there (while already 5 mins late). She charged me for an hour when the appointment was booked for a 30min pregnancy massage @ 10 am. I wasn't even worried about the running late, literally said take your time because I was there to get some relief but all that rushing energy was DEFINITELY not relaxing. I wasn't even upset about the sudden change to an hour massage because again I was looking for relief, but when you only get worked on for at-most 35 mins, it feels like man this place ISN'T it. AGAIN still not upset at this point cause I know stuff happens. I simply pointed out that 1. She ran late & 2. She took forever to set up so we really didn't get started until earliest 10:25am but she stopped at LITERALLY 10:59 (yes I checked my phone) . She apologized and says we can go back into the room & do another 20 mins. I declined the offer because I was already fully dressed & honestly didn't feel the massage helped my back so I just wanted to be refunded the difference and make my way out. After an awkward moment she does refund me and then charges me for what I assume to be 40 mins because it was $60. After all this I still tip her. I regrettably took it off so she could massage my wrist. In the last 4 years of having been gifted this bracelet I have only taken it off one other time so I know for a fact I left it in that room. I've called many times asking about it, even waited 2 weeks to write this review in hopes they would've reached out with any kind of news but they never did. The owner thinks refunding me is enough but that could never mend the loss of this significant piece in my life. I am native & that bracelet was given to me in ceremony, its priceless. This place is terrible. Instead of giving a hurting pregnant woman relief, they gave me a lifelong painful memory. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE !!! If I could give Firm Hands a 10 star, I would. Jon was recommended by a good friend of mine, and I'm glad she did! I'm a very active person, I exercise and lift weights pretty often.
