I've been in pain for two years following a car accident, and shortly thereafter, another one. I've had multiple injections into my lower back, shoulder and neck.. including multiple epidurals and nothing worked. Had my first session last week and immediately booked an appointment for the following week. I've been going to another place in LA that wasn't getting the level of deep tissue that I needed. I also wanted to find something closer to where I live. I saw Jonathan, the owner. He started on time, discussed what areas we were going to work on, he asked what I was looking for in terms of treatment. He was very professional and talked me through what he was doing and why. He stretched my muscles while massaging the tissue at a deep level. He warmed up my muscle with a hot towel and pre-sprayed the bed with essential oils. I really wanted to like this place, and based on the amazing reviews, I thought I would. I was so wrong. The scheduling was quick and easy via Yelp. That's probably the highlight of my experience with Firm Hands. I scheduled a 1000hrs appointment with Shannon. 1000hrs comes, and no one is there, and the door is locked. It's cool as I understand things happen. She finally arrives about 5 min late, and I had to wait for her to set up and prep the office for the day. I'm still understanding because things happen. 10 minutes in, she took me to the room, asked me to select my music, and I waited another 5 minutes laying stomach down before she returned. I know because I checked my phone and the last time I saw it was 1015 hours. I still had no issue with it since I figured I'd still get my full 60 minutes. During the massage, it seemed odd that she didn't focus on the ONE area I complained about the most. While I have multiple areas of need, I specifically asked her to focus on my neck and upper back area because that's what I needed the most that day. She didn't work on my neck area till maybe the last 15 minutes where she only did a repetitive upward/downward motion with one hand. I've been fortunate (or unfortunate) to have gone through physical therapy, pain management, and thousands of massages, and not once have they been so unmotivated and dull when treating my neck area. I've also never had a massage therapist only use one hand. After a few minutes, I realized why she was only using one hand. She was on her phone, and accidentally clicked on some video which played over the relaxing music. And guess what? The massage ended 15 minutes prematurely. This has been the most expensive massage, shortest, and biggest waste of my time and money I have had to date. There are sooooo many other options locally. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere where they're actually interested in providing qualitative services. This is not the place. read more

Jonathan is the best. I tried some massages from different places over the years and gave up because they were so painful (before, during, and after). Started going to Jonathan after I read the reviews on Yelp. Went and have been back many times since. Typically go with the sports massage, especially getting back into high intensity workouts. It has been tremendously helpful! Sometimes, the massage can be a little intense because it's deep tissue but I ALWAYS feel better and aligned after (for months after). No pain and irritation. Not only that, he has given great tips for helping my body through the healing process after working out. For example, I need to chill my muscles more to avoid inflammation and damage. Achieved phenomenal results beyond what I could have imagined. I'm a musician with constant pain due to years of playing. Leaving a review for Shannyn! So my fiancé and I returned to Firm Hands about a month ago and today we returned for our third appointment. Our initial appointment was a couple months ago and our massage time was half an hour each with Jonathan. This time around each appointment was one hour... he went with Jonathan and I was taken by Shannyn. Shannyn is great with her hands! I walked out tonight so relaxed and ready for bed. I honestly went in not realizing how tense I was. However, recently I've been feeling a little tense in the lower back, shoulder and neck all caused by daily life work and life stresses.. anyways, Shannyns cool and down to earth. Okay let me just say this man has magic hands. I had gotten lockjaw because of my TMJ disorder. I literally couldn't close my mouth all the way down and it was causing me pain to chew/eat. My friend was looking from places to get a back massage and we noticed the TMJ massage they offer and we booked an appointment for the same day. I walked out after 30 minutes with full range of motion in my jaw and I could finally close my mouth all the way. I also wished I had asked for that 60 min massage instead because I felt so good afterwards. The TMJ massage also massages around the neck and shoulders and I realized how tense I was in those areas.
