This is a great bouldering gym located in the heart of Long Beach! Price: it's $10 for a day pass, which is pretty cheap compare to the other climbing gyms in LA. I usually get in for free since my friend has a gym membership here. Location: It's located near Anaheim St and Long Beach Blvd. It it centrally located near many awesome breweries and eateries Parking: street and meter parking. Atmosphere: spacious, nicely decorated entrance and check in area. Staff: Always friendly with great smiles Gym: The gym has about 4 walls. They're all for bouldering. They have all kinds of obstacle courses ranging from easy, to hard, to competitive. It does seem like their grading system is graded slighter harder. It's usually is nicely ventilated if they open the doors since there is no AC in the gym area. Bathroom: Clean and spacious. They have about, toilets, lockers, and 5 showers for you to clean up after the intense workout. They also have a sauna in there if you have time to relax. They used to have coffee scrub for use in the bathroom, I guess they took it away after Covid. Just ask the staff for towels if you wish to use the shower. If you're an avid climber, I highly suggest checking this gym out. There are so many obstacles here that provide lots of training to improve your climbing techniques! read more

I've Been to Long Beach Rising a few times and have enjoyed each visit! Once you enter, check-in is at the front and Day Passes are currently $22 for adults without rental gear. Staff are generally nice, and all the areas are kept clean and tidy. A layout of the gym: In the front area they have plenty of counter seats, a ping pong table, and a small climbing section on the left. On the right they have 3 kilter boards and entrance to the restrooms which each have their own showers and saunas. There's a yoga area above which is a few short stairs away. As you enter the main climbing area, there's a fitness area on the left which has plenty of the traditional gym equipment. There are cubbies and a few lockers to place your things, with walls all around for you to try. They grade from v0 up, with each route clearly marked. Honestly, Long Beach Rising is one of my favorite gyms to visit! They emphasize inclusivity, and most interactions with staff have been so pleasant and helpful. I'm rating it 4 stars for a couple reasons: - Parking can be tough on this street depending on time & day - Most airflow within the gym is directed thru their ceiling fans. If those aren't on or are broken, the gym can quickly get hot and humid and stay that way - If you are unfortunate enough to deal with a not-so-friendly staff member, it can really take away from the greatness of this gym. My partner and I have visited a handful of times now and unfortunately on our most recent visit had such a snappy staff member that was servicing us as we checked in and purchased a few items. What I've liked so much about Long Beach Rising are that the routes are fun and challenging, but also that the space is so inclusive of diversity and kindness (added bonus that they allow dogs in!!). All the folks we've met on the walls have been nothing short of friendly and welcoming, and we would have thought the same of all the staff at LBR as well. Hoping our future visits are just as fun as our first time, since I know we'll be back soon! read more

Great facilities and HUGE plus that it is dog friendly. My pup was a big hit here and was able to be off leash provided she didn't wander around on the mats and climbing area. There's tons of variety of levels and the locker rooms were really clean. For $20 day pass, $15 if before 3pm- I thought it was a good deal. My friend and I really enjoyed our time here and she's a frequent climber who has visited many other facilities. She thought Long Beach Rising was definitely one of the better ones. I'm not an avid climber but I'm seriously considering joining as a member because of a great first experience. Street parking was also really easy but we got lucky with a spot up front. Set up: When you enter you scan in your QR to check in. There's a cafe like set up with a ping pong table, two areas to climb. Upstairs is a yoga room. in the back there is the main climbing area with a lot of great routes according to veteran climbers. I have been to a lot of gyms where there v1 feels like a v2 or v3. I feel a lot of the routes are appropriated to the levels that they should be at. parking: street parking only. Amenities: bathrooms, cafe like set up to work, free wifi, showers, bathroom, crossfit like gym, sauna. I climb here barley once a week but i use their main gym to life because of the vent they leave open which is huge for me. I love the fresh air and its a really unique set up. guest passes: I believe its like 20 bucks for a day pass and 5 dollars to rent shoes. members: 2 free guest passes a month for a friend, workout classes of all kinds posted in the hallway. If you actually spend time in this gym you'll realize that the management/ ownership doesn't listen to members or staff. This gym is purely worried about ratings and social media (as you see in other comments). It's a shame because this gym could be such a great addition to the community but instead has become an unsafe/ unethical environment (location) that is overpriced and inconsistent in their class schedules. The staff is great (for the most part) but you can tell they struggle to communicate within their own workplace as to no one is on the same page about events, pricing, etc. Also, as a long time member- hearing about the staff's experiences at this gym are... concerning and honestly sad because they are what make the experience worth it at this point. and the mouse problem.. ridiculous at ANY establishment. The operations of this gym focuses too much on producing merch and maintaining an image vs. focusing on addressing issues of the gym itself. Been coming here for over a year now and while I really enjoy climbing here and the community at LBR, I just need to flag that some of the amenities have been lacking lately. The women's sauna has been acting up for at least a month now and sometimes I commute 30 minutes just to stretch and sauna, to find that it's not working. I've flagged this with the front desk several times and even call before heading in to make sure it's on and that towels are available (a third of the week they're usually out). Today I turned it on before climbing and 1.5 hours later, it was still just a little warmer than room temp. An employee explained that we'd now have to reach down behind the heater to reset it whenever it needs to be used, which doesn't seem ideal. The sauna is a really nice perk and I hope this issue can get addressed soon. It also never really bothered me that the toilet in the third bathroom stall was broken, but it's odd that it's taken all of 2023 to fix. The restroom is a really basic amenity of all gyms, and it just seems backwards to see so much attention around new shirts, hoodies, and brand collabs when you could just...fix the toilet??? read more

I came here for the first time to enjoy a bouldering session and enjoyed it. So many bouldering problems! It was a tad bit intimidating for someone who was out of the climbing scene for a few months to jump back right into such a bouldering mecca, but if you're looking for bouldering and yoga classes - LBR is where it's at. As someone who boulders and top ropes, I do wish there was both here - so that it only has bouldering is a little bit of a deterrent for me to join as a member. However, it's the closest climbing gym to me - so I might end up joining. I wish the prices were just a tad lower (by like $5 or 10) and I'd commit for sure. Either way, I'll keep coming back for now and continue to check it out! Fan of this bouldering gym :). read more

I've followed their socials from the beginning and was pretty excited to check out their gym with a couple of friends (a few beginner and experienced climbers). I was quite disappointed with our visit. Staff wasn't friendly at all, despite mentioning we had a big group of people new to the gym, they didn't even offer to give us a tour with the gym looking kinda empty. They ignored us when walked out. The gym itself was small and there weren't too many routes for beginners in our group. Parking was horrible and we had to park a few blocks away, with tons of tweakers standing around looking to start trouble with people. Price point was not worth it ($27 and did not include rentals) for the cleanliness and amenities. read more

Nice gym -- aesthetic, clean, and good layout. Majority of staff is pretty friendly and welcoming. I'm new to climbing so I can't compare it to other gyms but it was a super enjoyable experience. The only downside I experienced was they charge $10 for pausing your account, and $40 to cancel it. Had to cancel it because my living situation changed and it's a bit farther from me. Seemed kind of punishing and honestly I'm not very stoked about it. read more

I'd like to address an issue here at this gym and I'm hoping this doesn't fall on deaf ears. I love this gym, I've been coming 2-4 times a week consistently since it has opened, more or less. I had never climbed before coming here but immediately fell in love with it. I really enjoyed seeing my growth and the best part is that it can actually be measured due to the rating system of the different climbs. A few years ago I was flashing all of my V3s and half or more of my V4s but then things started to change and the routes got harder and harder. I'm all for being challenged but it's gotten ridiculous. I'm back to projecting V3s and once in a while I'll get a V4 or V5. I gotta say, it's pretty demoralizing. If I didn't love climbing and if this gym wasn't conveniently located for me, I definitely would have quit. And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. This seems to be what EVERYONE who comes with any regularity talks/vents about. I know the gym is bleeding members and making budget cuts and I would hate for it to have to close, just because the setters are stubborn and want to make it extra hard. I won't name names, but one setters in particular is insistent on making crazy hard routes that focus less on technique and more on strength. It's really frustrating and I hope for everyone's sake this is taken into consideration. I love this gym and want to see it thrive and I'm hoping it will be able to get back to the way it was. read more

Originally came here because my younger sister had a Girls Scouts bonding day and I came for fun. To my surprise, I fell in love with the leaf and wood aesthetic of the gym. I enjoyed both the lobby and climbing gym itself. As for the climbs, they were really fun and creative. Might come here again since the pay isn't that bad! read more

LBR is incredible, I moved to Long Beach a few years ago and joined as this was the closest gym. It has become an amazing space with the best route setting and climbing environment. The gym offers everything you could possibly need, full weight room and training area, showers, lockers, sauna, towel service, even yoga classes. I was so happy they survived all of the Covid lockdowns. You will become a better climber coming to this gym. read more

The staff at this gym are A+ people. The building itself is gorgeous and it is very well kept. They are consistent at refreshing the routes and I felt I always had something to climb as an average climber. The yoga classes are fantastic. I highly recommend Reika's yoga classes on T and TH nights. She is the sweetest person and leads a hard workout. Sadly, I had to move for a new job and I think it'll be hard to replace this gym. Only recommendation: Put up a sign during yoga class hours in the main lobby for people to be quiet ;) read more

I don't need to write this review because I'm not going to say anything different from the other reviews but I love to review climbing gyms so I need to show my love. This gym is top notch, cream of the crop, best of the best, creme de la creme. Beautiful building, great setting, cool community, awesome training facilities and nice staff. The only suggestion I would make is to offer me a relocation stipend so I can move closer, granted I'm in nlb but if I was just a little closer I would be there all the time. I've been to climbing gyms all over the country and this is as good as it gets for a bouldering gym. Keep it up y'all, excited to see you grow. read more

Loved it there. Adrew at the front desk was very helpful with getting me started and giving me tips on warmups and such ( plus he had the sweetest little husky named beans!). This was my first time going there and I felt right at home. The walls were fun to use and the level system was easy to understand. The side gym was nice too and so were the bathrooms. listen dude. love LBR. been going here easily 2-3 years now. staff is fine. i'm frustrated with the setting though. it's absurdly hard and strength oriented, it feels lazy. set days are tuesday/thursday every week. i come back after 3 set days to see 1 wall set, and its only half set. if this wasn't 5 minutes from my house id probably switch to sender lakewood, in fact i might if things remain this way. most of the routes have been pretty lame since the comp set a month or 2 ago. i miss when this gym was fresh and sexy. i understand setting is probably hard, but hire more setters? idk? i pay a lot of money a month for this! hope my voice is heard but it probably won't be. read more

I will start by saying I instantly felt welcomed! Staff Members Brent and Taylor were friendly, efficient, and helpful. It's a beginning-friendly rock climbing gym. They only offer Bouldering no ropes or harnesses nevertheless they have crash pads so you won't get hurt when you land. In addition, the facility is clean and maintained. I'm not sure if they have their own parking but I found street parking on Anaheim St. I enjoyed my experience at Long Beach Rising. read more

This gym is truly amazing! The space is super beautiful and the staff are extremely helpful and professional. Everything about this gym was well thought out, the route setting is amazing for beginners all the way to the most advanced gnar crusher v19 climbers. Also, Steve who gave the 3-star review doesn't seem to understand how the star rating system works since he is complaining about the new crisp walls "being too textured". This climbing facility is small and it's bouldering only. I appreciate that, although small, there is ample space. The trade-off is that is there are fewer climbs. I also felt that individual climbs were spread out on the wall so the walls didn't feel overcrowded with holds. In terms of number of climbs this is the smallest climbing gym I've been to. The inside was very minimal, spacious, with clean styling and relaxed look and feel. Very nice, except the bathroom which felt cramped but I liked that the bathrooms went straight out into the bouldering area. I definitely feel though that it was done on a tight budget which prevented them from utilizing the space to its full potential. Maybe that will change? Even now, several months into their opening, some work on the facility is still being done. Although the space inside looks nice and modern, the city outside is an odd mix of gentrification, low income shops like "checks cashed here", and homelessness. It's an odd mix that feels more at home somewhere like DTLA and not a suburb like Long Beach. I get the sense that this new climbing gym is part of the gentrification process. This doesn't factor into my review but I mention it to help you understand the location better. The large spaces that climbing gyms require are expensive and this isn't the first climbing gym to setup in a lower income area where costs are lower. I didn't know where to park. I ended up parking down the block and around the corner. Maybe there's a dedicated lot? I would have like some signage or something to help me figure out where to park. When I first saw the wooden walls in the pictures, I was excited to find a gym with low friction walls. I was disappointed as the walls have a strong clear sandpaper coating you can't see in the pictures. I strongly prefer walls with low friction as it's easier on the skin but at least it makes smearing easier. Since these walls are new, the sandpaper effect is VERY strong as it's hasn't been worn down from smearing and chalk yet. On one climb, my foot slipped and the side of my knee slid down the wall taking most of my skin with it and started to bleed a little. The holds were also new and had great friction with the tradeoff being that they were also hard on the skin. The route setting was OK. The walls are the typical flat kind, just simple slabs, overhands, and a corner or two. They didn't get too creative with the wall types. The setting was as good as you can expect for those walls and most of the grades felt accurate. The crowd was mostly young adults (16+ typically) with a few parents+kids. It feels a lot like Hangar 18 Southbay in terms of the people. Both are in low income areas and have very similar demographics. Very different from somewhere like Cliffs of Id in a trendy upscale area like Culver City. Taking this all together, this is not a bad gym. I loved the spaciousness and relaxed atmosphere. I also like that's individually owned which allows them to do things differently; some gyms like those owned by Touchstone can all feel the same after a while. However, the low number of climbs would make this a hard place to frequent. After spending 2 hours there one day, I did every climb at up to and including my highest grade. Even if I lived in the area I can't imagine going here even weekly, I would get bored quickly. Maybe if you take advantage of the classes and workout area it would make more sense? If I were running this place, I feel like the best way to make this work would be to change out the climbs quickly, maybe every 2-3 weeks. By most standards that's very fast but with such few climbs it might be worth trying. read more

LBR has consistently challenging and fun bouldering sets. Everyone is welcoming and down to earth. They've got all the bells and whistles of a big climbing gym but with a small community feel. It's nice that there's a brewery next door and different food trucks most evenings between the gym and the brewery. read more

Wow this place is a climbing sanctuary! Beautiful old building, super unique lay out that makes it feel special coming in here compared to other gyms in the area. Tons of climbing amenities like the Moon Board, tension board, and a decked out weight room and work out area with treadmills etc. They said they'll be offering yoga and other classes (but I haven't personally taken any yet). The bouldering area itself is stunning - exposed wood beams on the ceiling - and the quality of holds, materials, walls, and angles are top notch. The setting was awesome! Super fun, challenging problems, could keep me occupied for hours. It's right next door to a local brewery so it's a fun spot to spend a weekend afternoon with friends. Pricing felt on par with other high-quality gyms, and you can tell they paid attention to all the details - even the bathrooms were beautiful! Looking forward to spending more time climbing (and falling) here. My only complaint is that I wish there was more parking and local eateries/coffee/etc nearby. This area is booming though, so I'm sure that will all be available in the next year! read more

Absolutely do not get a membership here. The bouldering wall is subpar and the gym is overpriced. I have been to much nicer gyms at this price point in LA, and there are much cheaper options that are better in Long Beach. worst of all THEY CHARGE A $40 CANCELLATION FEE FOR THEIR MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION. I have never seen such an absurd charge. What a pathetic excuse for a business. read more

This gym is one of those gyms where I would say to myself, "Man, if this gym were closer, I'd be here everyday".. Well, I am so lucky to be able to call this my home gym. Besides being obviously so beautiful, it's every climber's playground. Variety of routes, training boards, workout equipment, and clean and spacious yoga rooms. I haven't been to their yoga classes, but my friends really enjoy them. Many friends who come in just for a day pass have loved it and wish they lived closer. Staff has been amazing!! The owners are such humble and passionate people and they really have given the Long Beach area some life with this addition. Not to mention it's amazing having the option to come here rather than Hangar or having to drive in traffic out to LA or OC for quality climbing. Parking can be an issue when they get busy. I grew up in Long Beach so I am pretty used to the area, but just make sure to be careful if parking far at night. Avoid Sundays before noon due to a church right across having service and taking up majority of spots. Definitely worth checking it out, even if just for a day! read more

The gym is still under construction; don't let the operating hours fool you. This review is from my experience at the open houses. I've very familiar with the climbing industry and have seen most of the gyms in California. Let me tell you-- LBR is BY FAR the best facility. Saunas, TWO yoga studios, beautiful exposed brick walls, AMAZING route setting, the owner is a super sweet dude...I could go on and on. The atmosphere is inviting, contemporary and clean.
