Disappointing at best. Generally Chinese food in Rockville/potomac area is exceptionally good. The food at Fire Wok competes with my home town Sarasota, Florida for the worse Chinese cuisine. We chose this restaurant for the gluten free options offered. The service was good and the waitress efficient. The atmosphere lends itself more to take out. Everyone enjoyed seeing the umbrella lined ceiling choosing their fav. We started with summer/spring rolls, popcorn chicken, crab Rangoon. The summer rolls were inedible. They were wrapped so loosely you couldn't pick them up. They were filled with shredded lettuce, one shrimp, a few bean threads. Crab Rangoon was no better as far as taste and prep. A wanton with little tasteless filling and over fried. Pork with dry bean curd was julienne firm tofu and a few pieces of pork. Certainly firm tofu could not be confused with dry bean curd but was. We had several other disappointing dishes. I won't be going back or recommending Fire Wok so I'm not spending the effort to elaborate. If you can't make a summer roll it should not be on the menu. Finding a great chinese restaurant can be stressful - when I stumbled across this place I was excited by the reviews and got carry out during COVID. The restaurant is very clean and beautifully decorated yet small. In terms of the food, we opted for shrimp with walnut, peking duck, and general tsao's chicken. I am not Asian..my nephew is...and his grandmother and mom are amazing cooks and bakers!! However, I Asian in my soul :). The Crispy beef is the beast I have ever had and that says alot!! Coconut Rice sublime...bit needs some lime and parsley!! The green curry mixed with the coconut rice solves all the problems for the spicy..not spicy enough crowds and I have been both. Would give zero stars.1st time customer. Ordered take out. Messed up entire order. Wrong soup (got Tom yum instead of Tom kha). Avocado rolls were literally not rolled - all the rice /seaweed was separated from the avocado-completely. Just random ingredients floating in the box. And to top it off - the avocado was awful. Should have been thrown away. Not sold. Pan fried noodle w/vegetables- well no vegetables -just a box of dried uncooked noodles - literally uncooked dried noodles. No sauce, raw. It's like if I bought the dried noodles packaged in a store, did nothing to prepare them, then dropped in a plastic container and called it pan fried noodles with veggies and charged $14. What?!!!!Seriously- I CANNOT believe this went unnoticed! It was completely inedible. Literal Choking hazard. We also ordered 2 General Tso dishes. Never in my life have I had the sauce in a separate container from the protein. Yet here it was. Fried (and not in a good way because it was extremely dry) tofu with a horrific overly sweet (like sugar) sauce to pour on top from a separate container. And not enough sauce either . And nothing resembling General Tso or Tao or any other general I've experienced at any other restaurant. Now This is the best part. None of the containers came with lids. Just the bottom part of the plastic container , then covered in foil. Every dish came wrapped in foil instead of a proper lid except the soup. Never had any desire to try this restaurant before, but went by the glowing suggestion of a neighbor. Never ever ever again. Terrible. read more

I have ordered pickup more than 3 times now and each time I have made a special request about something in the order such as white sauce in Place of brown sauce or extra hoisin. Our family has gone here several times but unfortunately the quality of the offerings has gone downhill. The flavors are terrific, but most meat dishes are overly laden with "filler" vegetables like huge chunks of bell peppers, onions, etc. They used to offer dishes that had a good balance of meat with vegetables, but that is no longer the case. Maybe if they ride along with me while i pick it up and drive home -- offer me refills on my drink and ask me how the food was and if they could get me anything else I would tip them (20% min). I initially had an unpleasant experience with the restaurant unable to fill my order and seeming to be unconcerned. After I got home, however, they called and made it right. They gave me the meal for free and were apologetic. They had become overextended on Christmas Eve. The food was actually quite good. We tried 5 dishes: Shrimp wonton soup: great! 4 stars Chicken Lomein: bland and salty. Edible- 2 stars. Hunan chicken: bland, off tasting and salty. 1 star. Thai basil chicken: Not really a Thai dish at all however tasted decent. 3 stars. Hunan chicken: terrible. It's deep fried and dark colored. Sauce on the bottom. White meat at least. 1 star. Would love to have reasonably good Chinese food in Potomac. Have tried Fire Wok a few times, and initially had a couple of really good dishes: caramelized pork - nice slightly charred taste, no heavy gravy, lots of chilies and ginger. Salt and spiced pork chop was impressive - nice delicate light crispy coating. Other dishes were OK, but I was very excited to find some quality dishes & cooking. I ordered the two mentioned dishes again several weeks later, and they were totally different - and not so good. Caramelized pork had no ginger, few chilies, tons of onions (not spring onions) and was drowned in sweetish brown sauce. Pork chop was leathery, just dredged in flour & seasoning & over fried - nothing delicate about it. Not sure what's going on, but I'm now hesitant to return for further disappointment... read more

I find this place very hit or miss. Sometimes the food is delicious, and other times it is overly greasy and quite mediocre. Not sure if they have different chefs on different nights or why there is such a lack of consistency. I'm still giving it 4 stars because I find that the hit nights outnumber the miss nights. The roast duck is perfectly done, the Three Treasure salt and spicy shrimp, scallop, and squid is heavenly, and the kung pao shrimp and scallop is TD4.
