Not sure what happened to this place, but seems like the rising food cost have had a huge impact on their food quality. Chicken and broccoli is now mainly broccoli w a small amount of chicken pieces thrown in. Don't order their chicken egg rolls! Mostly air inside with so little stuffing that it deflates the moment you bite into it. Going downhill quickly! Sad offerings. read more

Food and service were both very good. I would definitely eat here again. One ding, the suggested tip on the bill is calculated on the taxed total. I do not tip on the tax total, tips are based on the sub total. I hope they see and correct this on their receipts. Buyer beware! I ordered takeout from this place and when I went to pay at the store, I tapped once and they told me to "tap again." Assuming the charge did not go through I tapped again and saw that the price went up by $20. I got back to the car and asked my husband if we really ordered that much food and he said no, so he went in to ask about the charge. They told him that I had tapped 15% gratuity (I did not, they told me to tap again). No receipt stapled to our bag, they just blatantly tried to rip us off. A real surprise. For some reason we had not noted this small restaurant in the Potomac Village and decided to try it. We entered at 7 PM on Saturday and there were few customers. We thought, "maybe we made a mistake to try this." But boy were we wrong. It turned out to be a gem. Waitress Jesse was pleasant, attentive, and had a great smile. The menu is varied and should meet all tastes . . . and includes sushi by an experienced Chinese sushi chef. Then the surprise - the food was excellent! Everything was fresh, well-prepared, plentiful, and nicely presented. In a word, delicious. Singapore rice noodle was perfect and NOT greasy. The jasmine green tea was among the best I can recall - a pleasant real and refreshing jasmine flavor (brewed from premium leaves). The garlic eggplant was not over-cooked and not greasy. The other choices (there were 3 of us) were equally good. Overall The ambience was typical of a small Chinese restaurant in a small strip mall - nothing special, but the plates and chopsticks were a cut above what one would expect. We will definitely return and we're glad to find such a "find" nearby. Exceeded our expectations. Part owner, Jack, needs to learn how to smile . . . should take lessons from Jesse. read more

The food is good. Very solid dishes: chicken and broccoli (extra chicken), fried rice, lo mein, green beans, ginger chicken, are all good. The duck is great. Give it a chance and you will be very pleasantly surprised. The service is not bad. It's a takeout place. They might be a little short on the phone but they are accommodating and fast. read more

Tasty dishes, but unfriendly service. This is one of the few places that prepares sautéed shrimp the way I like it--with the tail off, lol! I would've rated this place higher if I hadn't been treated so curtly every single time I picked up my takeout. It has been quite noticeable, either when I'm picking up by myself or with friends (embarrassingly so, with them)--and now, I think twice before ordering here (they do not have a dine-in option at this time, so it is not a lot, I would imagine, to show kindness to customers just getting their food...in fact, it is downright deflating to be excited and happy picking up yummy dishes and then be greeted so sourly...) Others may have a different experience, but this is what I encountered, and I went out of my way to be pleasant and civil...then again, uneven treatment for no good reason at all is a fact of life....I'll probably only order here if I can't find an alternative on a busy night (and willing to deal with attitude...) read more

We came back and things have looked up significantly. It's very charming inside, with nice ceiling decorations and very nice tableware. We started with a few sushi rolls and they were well made and tasty. The double cooked pork was mildly spicy--this is Potomac--and very enjoyable. The lemon chicken was also good--nicely fried chicken breast, with a mildly sweet lemon sauce. Service was friendly and efficient. Now worth a visit! read more

After passing by for years, we finally gave them a try. This is a very small restaurant but it looked clean and seemed quiet. We took the food out so I can't speak to customer service. The prices seemed to be in line with others we have tried. We liked that the food was not the least bit greasy and seemed to be good quality. However, the General Tso's didn't taste at all like I expected. If I didn't know it was General Tso's I would have thought I had a different dish but I'm not an expert and maybe other restaurants are getting it wrong. Positives: not overly sweet, big chunks of chicken in the fried rice, least greasy egg rolls and spring rolls we've had anywhere. Would we return? Probably. read more

Firewok has quickly become our go to location for Chinese takeout. Placing a takeout order over the phone is easy and quick and the food is ready within 20 minutes too (if not sooner). The dishes have good flavor and is liked by everyone in the family. Portion sizes are decent too and it is a good value for money! read more

Always delicious and fresh and well made. Many great dishes. I especially love their delicately breaded and friend Lemon Chicken and their crab rangoons are also a great starter - wish they had a little more crab inside. Their crab fried rice is exquisite as are the Sesame Chicken and Beef LoMein. The only thing I wish they had but don't would be home made sauces instead of those cheap factory and plastic contained duck sauce and such. At least the Crab Rangoons come with a delicious red sauce. Spring rolls are also nicely fried. Never over oily and drenched. Light and crunchy! read more

I have had really great Chinese food in top notch restaurants on multiple continents, including in Asia. I have even had great Chinese food in Seven Corners, VA. And, I have had really good but not great Chinese food in strip malls, and industrial parks ...but Firewok is not on my list. Bland is the simplest description to describe the 6 dishes and appetizers we shared. The dumplings had excessively think dough and undercooked. The sauces were uninspiring and had less flavor than what I've bought in the frozen food section of Safeway. I hate to say this, but the only thing that tis restaurant has going for it is that it is new, has nice interior design and good service. I'd go back if they brought even just decent food to the table. read more

The food is quite authentic. I'm the type of person who loves trying new food each time and last time I had green curry and it was very good. So this time I tried the Penang curry with chicken, it didn't disappoint me either! And My kid LOVES the General Tso's chicken and the Chow Foon with beef. And environmental wise, it's very clean and tidy. It's also kid friendly and our 4 year old said he loved the Chinese style decorations! The service was wonderful as well. Oh boy. Firework was a disappointment. We ordered delivery tonight and the food was incredibly bland. Tom Ka Soup is one of my favorite Thai dishes, but the version I got from Firewok was inedible and the broth seemed to be missing key ingredients. The scallops in the Happy Family dish were tiny. The Panang curry lacked flavor. I'm really surprised by all the 5-star and 4-star reviews on here. Do yourself a favor and skip this restaurant. read more

Firewok is the best neighborhood Chinese restaurant I have eaten at hands down. The menu is Asian fusion with a number of American Chinese dishes, Thai dishes, and now sushi. Food is always fresh, flavorful, and fast. Some of our favorites are the Peking duck, which is surprisingly good for a small neighborhood spot, shaky beef (more of a steak than a traditional beef), green curry, and pineapple fried rice. We tried their new sushi offering the other night and it was quite good. The fish was fresh and well prepared and they have a decent selection. There is a lot of competition for sushi in Potomac (with more on the way), but this will be in our rotation -- particularly if we are in the mood to mix and match with some of their other dishes. read more

Ordered Sesame Chicken and it came in clumps formed from pieces of chicken and filler. Found a piece of sharp pointed bone in one of the clumps. Been eating Sesame Chicken for years and this was the first bone I've ever found. Even worse that it had a sharp point that could've injured me. Threw the rest in the garbage. read more

This is a nice little takeout spot with a good selection on the menu. A tad bit pricey to keep up with the Potomac area! Not a place for fine dining or sitting down and enjoying a meal with family and friends as it's fairly small. The service was very brusque and the lady at the cash register did not even smile. The only redeemer was the Sichuan style Flounder and the not so greasy sauce which was flavorful and excellent. It was a good portion of Flounder Filet as well. Might try more on the menu if I am back in the area. read more

This place is pretty good. It was recommended to us by family for their Crispy Beef, but of course that wasn't all we ordered. We also got hot and sour soup, spring rolls, chicken fried rice, and orange chicken. Everything was amazing! The attention to detail is thorough seeing as they did not put the crispy beef in a closed container; rather, they left the lid off and covered it lightly with foil so it didn't get soggy. We got home and the beef was still so crispy that I couldn't believe it. We can't wait to come back and try some other times. I also got the milk tea with bubbles and loved it. It's been difficult to find Chinese food over the past decade, as so many places have shuttered. Surviving shops raise wand/or lower quality. Firewok does a good job with every meat I've tried, save for pork. That was more rough than ready. However, the chicken is white meat and the beef is lean and tender. Mom likes their seafood offerings, so we now have a go-to Chinese place that delivers. If PF Chang's is a 5, these folks are a 4 plus. read more

This place just opened maybe 1-2 days ago. We decided to give it a try on a cold busy Friday night. Ordered Hot and Sour Soup, Egg Rolls, Vegetable Noodles, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Thai Beef Basil and Mongolian Beef. All dishes were 100% AMAZING. PERFECTLY DONE. SO TASTY!!!! Generous portions and piping hot even by the time we got home with the food. This is by far our new place for Chinese food. First time trying Firewok. Ordered the Thai basil pork lunch With fried rice and hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup, though thick And hearty, was very bland. Not only not much heat, but not much flavor. The Thai basil pork, was fair. I asked to have The dish much more spicy. The results still was very bland, with very little heat. The fried rice was very good. Not overly oily and not overly dry. Just the right amount of soy sauce. I will try firewok again for lunch, Hoping to find a better selection. read more

Wow! Potomac Village now has a second high quality Chinese restaurant with really amazing food! Modern decor and a cozy ambience, attentive and efficient servers...but the highlight here is the food. Tastes are unique with each dish presented in authentic stoneware. We had the Shrimp Shu Mai, Ma Po Tofu, Panang Chicken, and Black Pepper Beef...and each one stood out in flavor and presentation. Disappointing at best. Generally Chinese food in Rockville/potomac area is exceptionally good. The food at Fire Wok competes with my home town Sarasota, Florida for the worse Chinese cuisine. We chose this restaurant for the gluten free options offered. The service was good and the waitress efficient. The atmosphere lends itself more to take out. Everyone enjoyed seeing the umbrella lined ceiling choosing their fav. We started with summer/spring rolls, popcorn chicken, crab Rangoon. The summer rolls were inedible. They were wrapped so loosely you couldn't pick them up. They were filled with shredded lettuce, one shrimp, a few bean threads. Crab Rangoon was no better as far as taste and prep. A wanton with little tasteless filling and over fried. Pork with dry bean curd was julienne firm tofu and a few pieces of pork. Certainly firm tofu could not be confused with dry bean curd but was. We had several other disappointing dishes. I won't be going back or recommending Fire Wok so I'm not spending the effort to elaborate. If you can't make a summer roll it should not be on the menu. Perhaps they had someone filling in for the chef? However, they did offer gluten free options. read more
