So this is a tiny place and honestly the BEST Chinese restaurant around. I LOVE everything here. The owner is lovely, the food is delicious. 5 stars for service, food and coziness. I once called them for delivery and I was out of their delivery area ( I am over 20 minutes away) and they made arrangements to deliver to me anyway as I called at a slower time. My boyfriend's family's favorite Asian take-out place in Gaithersburg. They get it at least once a month, I've had the Orange Beef, Black Pepper Beef, General Tso's and tonight I tried the Orange Chicken. He and his father alway gets the General Tso's, little sister always gets Beef with Broccoli. Have only had take-out, never dined in, but the food is consistently good in our experience. My buddy and I are new to the area, so we decided to check out a local place and we were not disappointed. Our favorite Chinese restaurant close to home. The owners are very friendly and will usually make changes without any problems. Our favorite is the chicken and green beans with vegan chicken - which was their sub suggestion years ago that we've continued to order. They are also very good about peanut allergies if you tell them. We've had bad experiences with that at a number of places in the Rte 28 corridor over the years but never here. read more

We had the Shrimp with Walnuts, Kung Pao Chicken, Chicken with Cashews, Beef with Broccoli, egg rolls, spring rolls, egg drop soup, and the hot and sour soup. EVERYTHING was delicious! We started ordering from there a few months ago. IT IS DELICIOUS! We have ordered once/week since then! We even ordered dinner in for the family on Christmas Eve! It was perfect! They are so nice & everything comes steaming hot & fresh! We order pretty basic dishes: Won Ton Soup Pan-friend dumplings Scallion Pancakes Pork Fried Rice Sesame Chicken MuShu Pork (we always order extra pancakes) Chicken Egg Foo Young (so good) Shrimp with broccoli Note: I added some fresh spinach to my Won Ton Soup when I was sick last week & had my husband go back & get me a couple of large soups that I ate the whole time I was sick! Curious if it's proper etiquette to review I place it my only experience is having them deliver food to my house and then eating that food. Oh well. My roommate swears by Szechaun-P, but it's just never hit me as quality, even in the carry-out style realm of Chinese. They are speedy with the delivery and super kind when ordering and when delivering, so they alone is a bit plus. The food is lackluster. Not much in the way of add-on's with the fried rice (egg, veggies, etc). The General Tso's, Sesame Chicken, Kung Pao... it's all pretty average: not amazing, but also not terrible. The Crab Rangoon's were over-fried and had very little in the way of filling. Egg rolls were actually pretty good. I'll continue to order from Szechuan-P every few months because it's the Chinese spot that delivers to my house and they have great customer service. read more

My family is completely obsessed with the scallion pancakes here!! We always get a ton of scallion pancakes and pan fried dumplings. They also make a great lo mein, and cashew chicken. Above all, they have wonderful service. I am always greeted so warmly when I walk in the front door. They are set up really well for take-out and maintain a safe distance. I've been ordering from Szechuan Palace using the beyond Menu app. We order frequently and have never been disappointed. When we request delivery, the food arrives hot. Ordering with delivery and getting cold food that should be hot is a pet peeve of mine so I am very happy when I open the bag and feel the heat. They are very accommodating and make changes without charge! I've ordered a good chunk of the menu items as I like to try new things but I fall back on my favorites. I love the egg foo young, mu shu, beef curry, all the fish dishes, beef with double mushrooms... the spare ribs are great too! My family loves the meat dumplings, chicken with cashews, pad Thai, shredded crispy beef and chow foon... I've placed large and small orders and I've been happy every time. First time to this restaurant, picked up takeout. The hot and sour soup was good but not great - bit on the bland side, more broth than anything else. The kung poa shrimp was the best I have had in quite a while. Generous portions with a good balance of peanuts, shrimp, and vegetables. Very tasty. The egg foo yung is the egg foo yung I have been searching for for a long time. Very tasty, generous portions, very nice sauce, good texture. I will be coming back! I was in the minority with my group in not liking this restaurant very much. I ordered steamed dumplings, shrimp tempura and a bowl of egg drop soup. The steamed dumplings were very tough and the dough dumpling very thick -- I ended up just taking out the insides once I took a bite of the dough. The insides were fine. The tempura batter was very thick and not crusty. The batter didn't "bubble up" it was so heavy and greasy. It didn't have the shine of most tempura batters. It was difficult to find the actual shrimp. Reminded me of a corn dog batter. The egg drop soup was delicious and the egg drop part was delicate -- the broth nicely seasoned. Others in the group went with typical fare such as kung pao chicken and beef with vegetables. They were quite happy with the food and maybe those are better choices. read more

When calling in the order, I asked a question about two dishes. The staff member told me "Make up your mind!" The Food was sub par. Last night I ordered online the spring rolls and the orange chicken. I requested curb side pick up but when I called they said they didn't get my order. I had an email and a text message confirmation. After waiting about 10 mins they realized there was a technology glitch and my order came through. The lady up front felt so bad that she gave me free hot and sour soup. I understand things happen. Their food is very good and flavorful. If there was a zero rating, I would have selected it. It saddens me to have to report this. From about 1995 I have patronized the Chinese restaurant establishment at this address, which has undergone at least a couple of management/ownership changes since then. When I was living in Darnestown in 1995 I used to dine in at the restaurant 2 or 3 times per month. The food was fairly good as was the service. When I moved to the other side of Gaithersburg, I did not go there a lot, but would return once in a while. The food was not nearly as good when I returned yet the service was still pretty good. The differences were supposedly due to a change in management and/or ownership. Now that I have moved back into the area (making it the closest Chinese restaurant to my house), the food is not as good as 20 years ago, but the service has proven to be really abominable. Tonight was the last straw. Delivery service is better than dine in, but now I have completely given up on the place. Last month I had lunch in the restaurant with a martial arts grandmaster for whom I have served as chief assistant since 1971. Together we have dined in more Chinese restaurants in the Washington Area over that time than probably currently exist in the Washington Area, which is a lot. We used to frequent many in Chinatown in the 1970s and 80s, including Ruby Restaurant, Golden Palace, and the original Szechuan (up until then everything was Cantonese). I tried to modify my order at Szechuan Palace to match what I get for delivery, but the idiot who waited on me refused, so at that point I decided to never dine-in there again (as the idiot appeared to have some kind of authority there). In the early 1950s I was a toddler and dined with my family in New York City (especially, House of Louie) and learned how to eat with chopsticks before I learned to eat with a fork. I would sit with their kitchen help in a closed dining room prepping snow peas with them around a big table, because I thought it was fun. Huge pile of snow peas! And I didn't understand a word they were saying. When my mom came to get me, both the kitchen help and I were a bit sad I had to leave. I usually cleaned more peas than any one of them and I was only 3-4 years old. Tonight I started an order at Szechuan Palace for about $40 so I could get 2 orders of egg rolls for free (with a $20 order you can get 1 order of egg rolls for free). The lady on the phone said that was not possible as they would only offer 1 order of egg rolls free. I tried to appeal to her, but it was to no avail. So I cancelled the order and said I would call back. I then reworked my order to be a little over $20 to get my single free order of egg rolls and called back. Any decent restaurant would have honored the 2 free orders of egg rolls in the first place, but fine, I cut my order in half (their loss). When the delivery arrived, the free egg rolls were missing altogether. I called them back to let them know and see what they were going to do about it. The lady said I could try again next time. I asked if she was going to give me 2 free orders next time and she said they would not. For some reason, their mistake at my expense was of no consequence to them. I was cheated, which I do not accept. Now the only thing I can do is no longer give them my business and encourage others to avoid borderline average food (albeit better than some other places) and unacceptable service. I'm fed up with this place. I would recommend that no one patronize this establishment until it changes management/ownership again. Instead, I will be getting my Chinese food from other places such as Café Hong Kong, Peking Palace, Happy Uncle, Gui Lin, Mama Wok, Spring Garden (a few doors down from the Chinese supermarket at Fox Chapel), and a few other places, some a little more distant. This is my good-bye/good riddance to Szechuan Palace until current management/ownership is gone. The sooner the better. We need a good Chinese restaurant around here. Xiè xiè. read more
