such a great shop in the middle of crown rio. The ordering is done either from the kiosk or the QR code thats located on your table. Today I got the beef combo soup and you know it was really good but I dont think the noodles really came through enough for me. Oh and it was really hot too so doubly for the future the hot soup and hot day does not mix. Looking forward to getting either the beef (not brisket) or pork stir fried with hand noodles next time. The stir fried looked really good across the table. read more

Excellent foods, self service and pretty nice ambiance. Bought stir fried shrimp and chicken both are excellent and portion of noodles and protein are decent for the price. Will come again. Parking on the week ends is not bad read more

I absolutely love this place! Everything we order always hits. From the cucumber salad, to the noodles, to the pancake. Everything is absolutely delicious. But I gotta say, my all time favorite dish is the cucumber salad. OMG I could eat it all day everyday. It is just so perfectly seasoned, spicy, refreshing, ugh I loveeee it. The hand pulled noodles are always so good. We've had the noodle soup which is also so good. Literally everything they make is good And besides Bobs Shanghai, I am certain these are the best xiaolongbao I've had in MOCO! They are BIG, juicy, soupy, meaty and so yummy. I don't like that they always forget to give us the vinegar sauce but we ask for it anyways. Highly recommend!! read more

This is a solid noodle house. As you can see from other reviews, it is not for everyone. If you came here to get wings, you are in the wrong place. But if you came here for fresh pulled Chinese noodles, then this is a great spot for you. My go to is the Beef Combo Dry - Mixed with a Stewed Egg. Trust me, you can not go wrong with this one. read more

I was surprised with how quick and simple service was, as well as the food! I ordered on the kiosk, sat down, and got my food maybe within five minutes. Note that if you order the hand pulled noodle soups spicy, they will just tell you to add the chili oil yourself. The beef brisket was so tender and juicy; it was so tasty. Noodles were a good combo with the beef. I thought the veggies that came with the soup were okay. Broth was fine too but adding the chili oil made it tastier. Overall quick and simple place with chill and casual vibes. Would come again if craving the noodles and in the area. read more

I was looking for a new place to eat and then walk around and although I was familiar with the Rio area I wasn't aware of this noodle spot. First, its a order at the table/kiosk place which is fine. The phone app is a little buggy though, so order at the kiosk. We had the regular noodles with brisket, and pork and chive fried dumplings. Drinks are bottled water/soda. The noodles and the dumplings were great. But otherwise its pretty meh. It had a weird odor, not really bad just a bit off. Like cleaning products mixed with wheat. The chairs make a terrible scraping sounds as you move them, if you have audio sensory issues this is a problem. The place is oddly quiet. Like, a tomb. The staff doesn't speak. The music is so low you can hear a pin drop. It felt like I had to whisper. Anyway, if you're in the Rio area for shopping this is a decent place for relatively affordable noodles but not worth a special trip. read more

The food was so good I forgot that camera eats first. They came out with our food super quickly and nice and hot. Me and my friend both dug into our dishes and we loved how tasty it was. They have soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil on the table to add separately. I loved adding the chili oil which added that extra kick I enjoy and to my liking. The chili oil and soy sauce also paired well with the steamed vegetable buns. I wish they had small little bowls/plates we can pour the soy sauce into for convenience of dipping into for the buns, but it wasn't too big of an issue. We went around 6PM on a Sunday evening and every table was packed. I noticed a lot of people decide to take takeout too. It's located in a nice complex where you can walk around the lake and check out other shops/dessert places/movies/etc. This place is definitely worth trying if you're in the area! read more

The pork buns alone are worth the order. Got this delivered via Uber Eats and honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm glad I took the chance. Ordered the beef combo knife slice noodle soup, pork soup dumplings, pork wontons with homemade spicy sauce, and the pan fried pork buns. The pan fried pork buns were the clear MVP here, perfectly crispy on the outside with that satisfying crunch, but soft and fluffy inside. Super filling too, which is always a win in my book. The beef noodle soup was solid comfort food with good portions, and the dumplings hit the spot. Only minor thing - I wished the "spicy sauce" had more kick to it. Could've used some extra heat, but that's me being picky. For the price and portion sizes, this place delivers (pun intended). You're getting a solid amount of food that actually tastes good. Would definitely order again, and those pork buns are going to be a repeat item for sure. read more

Very mid. Even if I didn't know what Lanzhou la mian was, the taste was forgettable, and I will not be eating here again. I walked in seeing the iconic metal noodle-making table and looked forward to a taste of my childhood. To my immense disappointment, I heard no thwacks from the table over my visit, and the noodles did not taste like lanzhou la mian or even like your standard niu rou mian. On top of that, i ordered the thick and spicy beef brisket noodles and got whatever the picture below was. Not brisket, and them noods were what I would have thought the standard thickness would have been. It tasted exactly how it looks: boring, bland, and without any spicy kick. I poured a little bit of vinegar into the broth and somehow it made it taste like a lukewarm liang mian. The popcorn chicken wasn't bad - tasted like Taiwanese popcorn chicken and was tender. It was the only saving grace from my visit. read more

We were traveling home from a trip to the coast but we always search for "the best" restaurants or unique stops on our journey. This place was mentioned for best and handmade noodles. You can find it in a retail hub tucked away but easy parking in the garage across the street. We got there right when it opened. Luckily I had read a lot about this place prior to being there because no one greeted us or told us how the place worked. So they had QR codes on the table or 2 kiosks to place your order whether dine in or to go. The menu is extensive from soup, noodles, appetizers and more. We ordered some noodles and soup dumplings. Again we were the only table in the place dining in that was not offered the water carafe, it was like we were invisible. The food however was delicious and only wish I could have taken the leftovers to go. read more

After my brother raved about this place, I've been back several times already in 2024. The surprise dish for me is their xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings). It's priced at $9.99, and you get six very good soup dumplings - I think they are the best in the area, better than Bob's or Shanghai Taste. The skin is so thin and is filled with lots of soup. Their beef noodle is soup is pretty good though I wish the broth is served a little warmer. I like the knife cut noodles the best. They give you tons of meat and veggies in the soup. One soup is enough to feed two adults. My daughter enjoyed the roast pork bun, almost as good as China Garden one. They have a decent size dining room, but it does get packed so get their early or you will have to wait. read more

When the noodle craving calls, Lanzhou is ready! Enjoyed the simplicity of the digital ordering system - getting our food was simple and the wait wasn't bad. I was pleasantly surprised with everything we tried! Was able to try the pan fried pork buns, beef knife pulled noodles, and oxtail noodle soup. Starting off with the pork buns we unfortunately waited too long and they got cold but even cold they were delicious. The beef noodles were so juicy, tender and fell apart which I loved. Luckily they had chili oil at the table which helped to add a nice spice. The oxtail as well was soooo good and a pretty good amount of oxtail for the price. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars from me is the service. I felt the staff was pretty standoffish and it wasn't until we moved to a closer spot within view that they came and served us water. Just be mindful of where you sit because the chairs that are closest to the door in the back are out of view and can cause the staff not to be able to see you. I would probably come for take out but was a little turned off by the dining in experience. read more

In my experience, this was not a welcoming place to dine. Staff interactions felt abrupt rather than hospitable. The food was also disappointing. I ordered multiple items but could only manage a few bites--one shrimp dumpling, a bit of the seaweed salad, and a single spring roll. The smell and taste were off-putting to me, and I didn't feel well afterward. I wouldn't return based on this visit. read more

I really liked the texture of the noodles. The noodle soups were light and delicious as well as the stir fried noodles. My wife ordered one of the cold noodle dishes, and thought it was very good, but preferred the sauces from chopin noodle house instead (personal preference). However, the chili oil on the table was really good and help elevate the all the dishes. It is fairly spicy though, so don't put too much on without trying it first. Service was pretty barebones, but it was fast. read more

I loved the food! You can order food online or through their kiosk. I have walked by a million times and it's always packed. We arrived just before the lunch rush. I had the combo beef noodle with ox tail, beef and tendons. The broth was so clean and flavorful. I would like to note that I don't normally like Chinese beef noodle soup but since the noodles are homemade I wanted to try it. I'm very happy I did! The pork soup dumplings and shrimp dumplings were fresh and came out really quickly. The table near us had the buffalo wings and said it was delicious. I will definitely come back. Edit: I came back for the wings. By far the best I have ever had. Reminded me of Korean wings (Gam pong gi) but crispier and more flavor, not too spicy. Loved the beef brisket stir fry. More like short ribs with chewy tendons and tender pieces mixed. I will definitely keep coming back! read more

A great easy, fast, and tasty lunch spot! Was here around noon on a weekday. Restaurant was mostly full but has fairly quick turnover with self order and self seating. We got our food super quickly (and also consumed it just as quickly). Beef hand pulled noodle soup- the house made hand pulled noodles were fantastic! Very al dente and bouncy. You get a good view of the restaurant staff hand making the noodles from certain seats in the restaurant too. Broth was light and flavorful, and there was a generous amount of beef and Chinese broccoli. Pork and chive fried dumplings- very savory and juicy. Tastes good paired with chili oil. Pork soup dumplings- a bit less soup than expected (possibly absorbed by the filling). Pairs well with complementary black vinegar and ginger dip. Overall a solid place to eat in the DMV! read more

Was highly recommended to try Lanzhou by a friend of mine and it was fantastic. On a cold day, a good savory bowl of noodle soup will always hit the spot. The Food: I went with the "Beef Brisket Noodle Soup". The beef was super tender and flavorful and the noodles were made/cooked to perfection. You can see them actually hand pull your noodles in the open kitchen they have. The broth was very tasteful as well, full of beef broth flavor and the portions for each bowl was pretty huge. The Service: Service was good! Staff were friendly and welcoming. You can order either online or they have two kiosks where you can browse the menu and order from. Then they'll bring your dishes out to your table. The Atmosphere: Nice and decently sized restaurant. Place is well lit and clean. With an open kitchen, you can smell how good it is in there with all the food being prepared. Overall, a 5/5! Food is absolutely delicious! Highly recommend Lanzhou Hand Pull Noodle. read more

Very good food. You can watch them making the noodles which I'm sure the little ones love. Quick and fast. Small location.

If I could go lower than 1 start I would. Here's what we ordered: 1 wing order, stir fried shrimp and extra noodles, beef soup with brisket thin noodles and no radish, tendon beef soup with knife cut noodles no cilantro. What we got: Brisket with thick cut noodles with cilantro, tendon soup with thin noodles and no cilantro, wings, stir fry with shrimp and chicken with additional non listed ingredients like bok choy and a single tomato. After insisting with the waitress they finally fixed the order. The beef noodle soup is super bland like imagine a flavorless broth with beef fat. The wings were okay, a little over dressed. The stir fry was a heathcode violation. Just awful. Will never return. read more

My combo beef hand-pulled noodle soup was served very quickly. It's an efficient little restaurant on the corner, like you see in Asian cities. Easy to order on kiosks, but I just went to counter. The beef included brisket and tendon, and it was very good, by my high standards. Soup was on the light/plain side, which is likely a plus, so I added vinegar. They also do shaved noodles, which I would like to try next time. read more

This restaurant is opposite Dick's Sporting Goods in Rio. Setup is pretty simple. You walk in to see the pulled noodles being made behind a glass partition. Order from an electronic kiosk and your food gets delivered to you Nice wooden tables, water is served in cute golden colored metal tumblers and a glass carafe. The tumbler feels very Asian! Portion sizes are just right, you won't have any left overs. We tried the Stir-fried noodles, one with Shrimp and other with vegetables and tofu. Our third order was peppercorn soup dumplings. That's a masterpiece. The dumplings are filled with soup and arrive very hot. You get a ladle for the soup as it will spill when you eat the dumplings. Prices are regular around $14 to $17 for an entree. Appetizers are reasonably priced at around $6. On dry warm days you can use the alleyway tables to sit outside. read more

This place has a lot of appeal of what I love in food which is hand pulled noodles with the emphasis on homemade noodles. I took two pictures one originally how it came and then after I added spice. Honestly after the spice the food overall had very minimal flavor which was pretty disappointing. Knife cut noodles were way too thick and not absorbing any of the broth. Soup dumplings had minimal if no soups and were super tiny. Loved the ordering screen to make things simple. Overall not impressed and wouldn't go back. read more

3 stars for food and 4 stars ambiance. We visited Lanzhou on a Tuesday night and the place was packed for the two hours we stayed. Ordered beef noodle soup with everything. Meat-wise, I liked the brisket a lot. Others were underwhelming. I LOVED the soup. It was very flavorful. Not too salty but has a deep flavor which I loved. What I wasn't as amused were their noodles. I had their thick hand pulled noodles and thought they were choppy rather than chewy. Granted I do have high standards because the competition in the Rockville area is high! We also tried their cucumber salad which was refreshing and xiao long bao that was fine. Overall, nothing to rave about. Everyone there was SUPER nice. Service was fast too. I wish I liked the food more -- but I probably won't be back unless I'm in the area. read more

I stumbled upon this place while in Rio and had no idea what to order. The place was fairly full and a lot of Asians so that was a good sign! It was pretty simple decor and a friendly person at the counter. I ended up ordering from the touchscreen so I could see what all the dishes looked like. I got the noodles with chicken and added extra veggies...it was ok and very much like lo mein. Was $17 for a fairly small bowl...more noodles and chicken, not a lot of veggies (just on top) which is what I wanted more of. Don't think I'll go here again unless I'm feeling like just noodles. Nothing unique about it and too pricey for what it is. read more

I heard good things about Lanzhou, but was disappointed. While the lamb soup broth was delicious and flavorful, for the price, I would have expected more noodles than the handful I got or more vegetables. Additionally, most of the a good number of the pieces of lamb were incredible chunks of bone or tough skin. On the other hand, the pork bao were very good - filled with plentiful juicy meat. read more

Delicious noodles in a casual environment!! I had a beef noodle soup and stir-fried knife cut noodles - the texture of the noodles in both were amazing, and the beef was perfectly cooked. Portion sizes were really big. The cold dishes - shredded potato and cucumber salad - were extremely flavorful. My wife and I tried their beef hand pulled noodle soup and their beef tendon knife sliced noodle soup. We'd give it a 3/5 for the experience. The price came out to be $31 after tax. While the price is okay, the portion that came with the noodle soups were not. The amount of food that came in each bowl is surprisingly little for a $14.5 pre-tax. The taste: the soup was good. The overall mix of veggies, meats, and noodles created an amalgamation of deliciousness within each bite. Too bad the enjoyment was soon over after a few bites. 4/5 for taste. My baby normally enjoys noodle places. He, however, took a few slurp of the noodles and gave up. I honestly don't think I'll go back because the cost and portion severely outweigh the small amount of positives that the taste brought. read more
