I work very near The Spot, and have been a fan of Mian Pull Noodle since they opened! I didn't know, however, that they offered a tomato soup base for their noodle soups! It's so good - not like what most white people would think of a "tomato soup". The tomato is there, of course, but it's nice and complex, while having a smooth and clean mouth feel. Absolutely Amazing! Service was pretty quick considering I got hand shaved, got the Spicy Beef Pull Noodles, and I will definitely get them again, soooooo gooooood, reheats well too. One suggestion, is wait ten minutes before pouring the contents into the broth bowl if you get takeout, it's boiling hot. read more

Update as of January 2021 After our initial experience, we decided to give this place another try. They are open and only carry out. They also have delivery service via UberEats / etc. This time, we ordered their assorted beef noodle soup with the wider noodles. Their soups has a decent flavor. Tons of content. Noodles have a decent chew to it. We selected their spicy broth instead of the regular broth. It was pretty decent. Packaging was good compared to other restaurants. It's basically toasted flatbread between chunks of lamb. The meat is already prepared. All they do is stuff the meat inside the bread and put it inside a press to get it warmed up. The sandwich itself is okay. They also make dumplings and noodle soup which is performed behind the counter and in a kitchen which you can't see. The sandwich is made behind the counter, but you can see the person making the order. We tried the dumplings in the past and they were okay. Comes out hot and steamy. We never tried their soups before as we go elsewhere for that. The reason for the low review is that we are unsure how clean this restaurant is. Sure, it's nice to see a station where you can see the chef hand pull noodles. However, the person at that station was an older man (40-50s). He was standing by the noodle station waiting on customers. We noticed him picking his ears with his BARE hands. He was literally by the counter and picking his ears. Not sure where else those hands been. we were worried that he would prepare our order, luckily he did not. The person who pulled the noodles will use their bare hands. Not sure how sanitary this is. Located at The Spot right by Rockville Town Square, so there is free outdoor parking very close by (and a parking garage as well), Mian Pull Noodle is one of my favs. I was suffering from a cold and the Veggie plain noodle bowl (with skinny noodles) in beef broth was just what I needed to help me feel better. I read a few reviews stating that the bowls are not flavorful, but I disagree. I really loved the generous portion of veggies and noodles in my $6.99 bowl. My husband had an order of the chicken and mushroom dumplings. I thought those lacked in flavor, but they were okay and still fun to eat. I liked how tender and chewy they were in texture. I will say it took about 25 minutes for our order to be ready, but watching the noodles being hand-pulled in front of my eyes helped me to understand the detail of work the staff does to prepare each meal. read more

Mian is one of the vendors at The Spot. The food is not that bad, however there's just a lot left to be desired. The broth (spicy or regular) does not really have much depth to it. It borderlines bland, but it gets the job done if you're looking for something hot that's inexpensive & not pho. The noodles are decent. Not the best I've had, but they have a good chew to them. Portions are bigger than I expected. I've had both the roast duck and chicken pull noodles here. They are solid choices if you don't know what to get if it's your first time. One of the restaurant in the Spot (food court) that we have bookmarked to try and it did not disappoint. The wait for Sunday lunch was very minimal. Spent more time looking for parking than the order itself. If no parking is available on the ground floor, we found a garage parking right around the corner. This spot has a big reputation when it comes to fresh pulled noodles. I don't know any other restaurant that does this in the DMV area. They do it well here! Mian is located inside of the new 99 Ranch Market in VA. They offer a variety of restaurants that include Mian as one of the stars. There is one main guy that pulls the noodles right in front of you so you can see how fresh they are doing it. When there is a rush, he is always on time with the noodles. The noodles are soft, and chewy but still have a bite to it. I tried a couple of there items: *Pork Burger *Assorted beef noodle *Spare rib noodle *Roasted duck noodle *Pan fried pork and chive dumpling Let's start with the burger, it could have been more saucy because it was a little dry. The flavor was there and the bread was good. The potstickers were amazing! I loved the flavor and I will definitely recommend getting them! Now to the main items the noodles! The assorted beef was my favorite. You can choose to get a spicy broth or original (I got original) it wasn't too sweet and you can get all the flavors from the beef. It had tripe, and 2-3 different cuts of beef. It came with onions, bok choy, and radish. Really great for a rainy day! The spare rib came with 3 pieces of pork ribs and the same onions and vegetables. Still flavorful and tasty! The roasted duck was so tender and crispy! The spicy broth would definitely be better if it was a bit spicier and it would have been better if they added more bokchoy. This was located at The Spot, my first time here. At first when I saw what the menu board had to offer, I thought it looked somewhat limited. I decided on the Flank Pulled Noodle which was around $10. It came with a ramekin of vinegar and chili oil. I split the bowl with a friend as we wanted to share another dish from another restaurant at The Spot. The soup wasn't as hot as you would expect. I thought for the price there should have been more meat and noodles. I thought the flank was ok but wasn't expecting tendons to be attached to it. I threw that away. My friend thought the soup was a bit salty but I thought it was fine. I was super excited to try this place out in the Spot because they serve hand pullednoodles! Usually the noodles are so much better in soup when they are hand pulled! Unfortunately there isnt anything to rave about this place. I did like the noodles and that you can pick flat or thin noodles. It was also cool that you can watch them hand-pull the noodles. buuuut the flavor of the soup was slacking. wheres all the flavor!?!? I ordered the first soup which was just beef noodle soup. I also like my beef to be very tender, this was not. To open a place like this in Rockville, where we basically have our own little chinatown of great chinese restaurants, they gotta step up the flavor in the soup! It was almost $10 for a bowl (which wasnt a very big bowl) where you can go to many other chinese restaurants in the area for cheaper and better bowl of soup. They served dark vinegar and chili oil which i guess can make the soup better. but this place is nothing spectacular. so sad! I've been here a couple times already - when I went a week or so ago, they've definitely updated their menu and added a few new things. I will review the 3 dishes I've had: 1) Pork and chive dumpling (8 for $6.75). They're good and hit the spot if you're looking for a dumpling fix. It's a thicker skin, and the filling is okay. It's nothing remarkable or amazing, but it is consistent. 2) Beef Noodle Soup ($9.75) It's topped with cilantro and green onions, with some bok chop pieces as well. The noodles are great, I usually go for the knife cut noodles because it reminds me of my time abroad in Taiwan. The broth is okay, it's not bad, but it's not complex like pho, ramen, or Taiwanese beef noodle soup. It's a very lightly flavored broth (I wouldn't call it watery, but it is light and works with what's in the bowl). 3) Noodles with scallion oil I've always hoped they would offer a dry noodle option and they did it here (however only available with thin noodles). The scallion oil is nicely flavored, but it's literally an oil that had fried scallions and onion flavor in it and maybe a light sauce of some sort. There's nothing else in the bowl besides the noodles, oil/sauce, and green onions.... I wish they offered bok choy or another option for a vegetable to cut through the sauce, but overall it was good. I also ate this with the dumplings so it was a carb overload (of the best kind). I'm not totally sure I would get this again unless they added something. Overall, for one of the few fresh noodle places, this is definitely good. I think the pricing is odd though. A bowl of only noodles + soup is 5.99, but if you get any sort of protein, it's another $4 basically. One irksome thing about eating here though, they never have soup spoons, so you're trying to drink soup with a regular sized spoon. I don't get that considering they use reusable bowls if you dine in and there are a ton of Asian grocery stores nearby where you can easily get a soup spoon for like less than a $1 each (reusable) read more

Solid 3 stars. Mian Pull Noodle is one of 5 vendors at The Spot, specializing in - you guessed it - noodle soup. Specifically, beef noodle soups. That being said, I was excited to try it out as good authentic beef noodle soup is a bit hard to find in the Rockville area. Came here at around 7 on Friday night, and The Spot was moderately busy. The noodles came out fast even though the line was long, with order numbers appearing on a flat screen as they are ready. My wait time was right around 7 minutes I believe. The noodles are pulled by a gentleman near the counter behind a clear glass barrier so you can see him at work - a nice novelty touch. The noodle soup itself was just average - I've had worse and I've had better. It didn't compare to a home made version, which makes sense for a quick-service meal. I found that the broth was a little light and lacking depth (it didn't have the deep rich earthy beefy flavor profile that is typical), and the beef was a little bit dry/chewy (didn't seem like the meat was simmered with the broth as is customary rather added at the end like a ramen), however the hand pulled noodles themselves did not disappoint (a right amount of chew, though some strands were just underdone). It tasted like a slightly more flavorful pho. They use a lot of cilantro - if you're sensitive to it you may want to request less. Ordered through Uber Eats to try for the first time as they were running a promo for their chicken noodle and chicken & broccoli dishes and we wanted try something new. Was wishing that it would better than some of the reviews I read, but sadly wasn't a good experience for us. My one son wouldn't finish his bowl of noodles which is extremely rare for him as he isn't picky and enjoys eating lots of food. The chicken and broccoli was overloaded with salt and tasted like very cheap Chinese American takeout/buffet, but they normally charge $15 - would never pay full price for that. Both sons complained about the saltiness and my other son is the type to sometimes add salt to canned soup. We asked for one noodle dish to be wide noodles and one thin, but both were thin/medium. From what I could tell our noodles did not look like they were hand pulled. They looked and tasted like the refrigerated noodle packages I pick up regularly at the local Asian markets. Maybe this is why they ignored my request for one with wide noodles? I did like the wok hei flavor on the noodles, but overall still tasted like cheap takeout. I also requested one chicken broccoli to be extra spicy and the other mild, which they also ignored. And they did not provide hot chili oil as requested. The worst part was that my other son and I who ate more of the food had GI problems/the runs about 2 hours after eating and the next day which also almost never happens to me. Are these the best pulled noodles I've had? Not even close. Are these pulled noodles good for the Rockville area? Oh for sure! My hubby bought home a bowl of their beef noodle soup and it was all smiles. The flat noodles had a nice texture. The spicy broth was flavorful. And the amount of beef, tendon and tripe for one order was generous! I couldn't complain as it was comforting. My only recommendation is work on those noodle pulling skills into a more chewy, thick texture of noodles. Otherwise, I am a fan. This week I stopped off at The Spot Asian Food Hall in Rockville. Ordered the beef flank in noodle soup to go from Mian Pull Noodles. I ate part of my lunch there and brought the rest home. The beef was delicious, very flavorful and tender, and they give you a generous portion of meat. The broth was OK. For me, noodle soup is best when piping hot, so when I got home and heated everything up, I found that doing so really enriched the broth. So, what started out as an OK meal became a really good one. The meal was well packed, but note that for carryout the broth is put into a biodegradable container (not plastic). So you'll want to get your food home within 2 hours or so. read more

Lots of options. Got the chicken noodle soup which had two bok choy leaves, green onion, fried chicken nuggets and a clearish broth. I got the flat noodles but the other noodles looked good too. Fried chicken nuggets were tasty and while breaded fried chicken seems weird it was actually quite pleasant. The chili oil is a nice amount of heat that doesn't hurt too. Like I read elsewhere-- they don't have real soup spoons so it is hard to drink the broth with the shallow soup spoon provided unless you tip the bowl into your mouth. read more

Finally I got the chance to try out this place last weekend. This is the Chinese version of the Vietnamese Pho. I ordered the flat noodle, boy it was the wrong choice for me. I should've gotten the skinny noodle because this one filled me up quickly. Mian is a gimmicky (read as trendy and not authentic) spot in The Spot that you definitely shouldn't have high hopes nor should you brave the weekend crowds for it. If this was just a noodle place, it would probably earn more stars. To advertise as a pulled noodle place, however, the noodle's texture was extremely boring and not chewy/"Q" like good pulled noodles are supposed to be. The show for pulling of noodles behind the glass is also super anticlimactic since the guy pulls the noodle a mere 4 times before setting it on a plastic tray. The plain broth was decent and the beef texture was good but the whole package is really nothing to write home about. If outdoor seating is not available, indoor seating is plain chaos and makes for a stressful eating experience. Retail parking attached to the building is scarce so you'd likely have to venture behind the building for shopping center parking. read more

This is inside the Spot food hall! Along with a bunch of other Asian restaurants inside, this restaurant sells hand pull noodles and dumplings. They have a guy who hand pulls the noodles in front of you too! Great place to hang and eat with friends, while eating authentic Asian dishes. However it is SUPER hard to hear them say our order number. Also, they do not do their orders in the correct order....my friends were order #49 and 50 and I was 51 but they skipped all over to the 60's and 70's. They later gave me my beef flank noodles but I waited over an hour for my two orders of dumplings. They gave other people their dumplings and they said they'll give me mine yet still kept on giving everyone else's theirs. They eventually gave me my order of dumplings (supposed to be 10 pcs but it was under 10 pcs) and gave me a refund. Everyone that I came with agreed that they should put the number up on their screen instead so people can see better than hearing, and deaf people like my parents can see too, especially since there's quite a population here in the DMV area. That'll be a lot more helpful and considerate. They also really need to get their number ordering system in order lol. It's just the grand opening so I understand it's busy, but just because it's busy, it doesn't explain how they go all over the place with their ordering system and give dumplings to others over others. The problem with Mian Noodles is that right nearby you have a few different noodle soup places, that quite frankly does the same thing for about the same price with the exception that their soup tastes better. The soup here was kind of watered down and bland, like it didn't let the flavors settle in long enough. You can take small condiment cups of chilli oil and Chinese vinegar but even then it doesn't really help out the soup a whole lot. The other thing working in disadvantage is the long wait lines. And the day I went they were out of noodle dough and there was a line of customers waiting for them to make a whole new batch. That's probably not going to be the case always as I think the Spot being a new place is the reason for the influx of mass crowds, but still I wonder if they might have had extra dough ready to go instead of allowing lines to form. Also the day I went there was no dumplings available for purchase when I had looked online before going and there was definitely dumplings being offered on previous days. Growing pains sure, but unless they can work on the broth for the soup tasting better I'm not sure I would be a repeat customer. read more

I went to The Spot around 1 week after it opened up and boy was I let down. I'll talk about a few positives first-- My wife and I ordered both the thin noodles and the flat noodles just to make sure we covered all the different things they offered. The noodles were pretty good and had a good chew to them. We enjoyed both types. Wait, that's the only positive. The rest of the bowl felt lazy. It was plain, flavorless, and just lazy cooking. People say a bowl of ramen takes up to 8 hours to stew. Some people say a pot of Pho is an overnight affair to prep. This soup base felt cheap and left a lot to be desired. It was clear and the broth was bland. I didn't taste any effort at all. Having lived in Taiwan for over a decade, I grew up with an array of authentic beef noodle soups. I of course did not expect it to taste exactly like home, but I expected it to be up to at least Rockville standards. With A&J, Bobs Shanghai, Taipei Cafe and a few more neighboring Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants, Mian falls way short of expectations and it's competitors. Until they completely overhaul their recipe, I will not be going here nor will I be recommending any friends to try it out. read more

Located at the end of "The Spot," it's easy to "miss" this "spot," after all, there's no huge loud sign for this place. Fresh pulled noodles just sounded so good for my sister and I. The noodles were good, the thick noodles were better than the thin ones. It was nice to see them actually doing the hand-pulled noodles while we waited for our order. The soup lacked a little something (that depth, salt, whatever you want to call it). They didn't have any of the dumplings on their menu on a weekday lunch. Service during lunch was pretty quick. The menu options were as if you were reading a pho menu option. It's a different cut of beef per option. Not sure if they changed their recipe, but earlier Yelp photos show the traditional Chinese beef noodle soup with the darker broth. Now the broth is the light and clear. The broth was very bland and the chili oil on the side did not really help with spice. Maybe I would have liked the noodle soup had it used the peppercorn broth.
