Update as of January 2021 After our initial experience, we decided to give this place another try. They are open and only carry out. They also have delivery service via UberEats / etc. This time, we ordered their assorted beef noodle soup with the wider noodles. Their soups has a decent flavor. Tons of content. Noodles have a decent chew to it. We selected their spicy broth instead of the regular broth. It was pretty decent. Packaging was good compared to other restaurants. Worth giving this place another try if you are in the area. --------------------- Located inside the "Spot". It's located nearby Gongcha and that skewer place. Accepts both cash and credit cards. Beware if you come here for food my fellow Yelpers. See below for additional details We came here one afternoon and ordered their lamb burgers. It's basically toasted flatbread between chunks of lamb. The meat is already prepared. All they do is stuff the meat inside the bread and put it inside a press to get it warmed up. The sandwich itself is okay. They also make dumplings and noodle soup which is performed behind the counter and in a kitchen which you can't see. The sandwich is made behind the counter, but you can see the person making the order. We tried the dumplings in the past and they were okay. Comes out hot and steamy. We never tried their soups before as we go elsewhere for that. The reason for the low review is that we are unsure how clean this restaurant is. Sure, it's nice to see a station where you can see the chef hand pull noodles. However, the person at that station was an older man (40-50s). He was standing by the noodle station waiting on customers. We noticed him picking his ears with his BARE hands. He was literally by the counter and picking his ears. Not sure where else those hands been. we were worried that he would prepare our order, luckily he did not. The person who pulled the noodles will use their bare hands. Not sure how sanitary this is. Unfortunately, this chef soon prepared a customers order with their ear picked hands. If you are in the area my fellow Yelpers, I suggest you go elsewhere. This place might not be sanitary especially if you come here with young kids and those will weak immune systems.

Located at The Spot right by Rockville Town Square, so there is free outdoor parking very close by (and a parking garage as well), Mian Pull Noodle is one of my favs. I was suffering from a cold and the Veggie plain noodle bowl (with skinny noodles) in beef broth was just what I needed to help me feel better. I read a few reviews stating that the bowls are not flavorful, but I disagree. I really loved the generous portion of veggies and noodles in my $6.99 bowl. My husband had an order of the chicken and mushroom dumplings. I thought those lacked in flavor, but they were okay and still fun to eat. I liked how tender and chewy they were in texture. I will say it took about 25 minutes for our order to be ready, but watching the noodles being hand-pulled in front of my eyes helped me to understand the detail of work the staff does to prepare each meal.

One of the restaurant in the Spot (food court) that we have bookmarked to try and it did not disappoint. The wait for Sunday lunch was very minimal. Spent more time looking for parking than the order itself. If no parking is available on the ground floor, we found a garage parking right around the corner. The stir fry was made to order and delicious. Portions were pretty generous. The tofu was a little too runny for me....but was good nonetheless. Enjoy!

This review is for their hand-pulled noodle soup with duck. +The noodles were pulled nicely and had a good umami flavor to it. It reminded me of Papa John's pizza dough; it's kind of hard to explain. +The broth was hearty and full of flavor. +I enjoyed the vegetables in the soup. -The duck meat was a bit lacking and rough. I had to chew it down a bit. Overall, there's a lot of Chinese restaurants that offer homemade noodle soups in the DMV, so the competition is fierce. However, I would give this place another shot if I were in the Rockville Town Center area.

beef noodle soup with flat noodles, veggie stir fry in the back

LOVE the flat noodles. Great texture and taste. Ordered the beef noodle soup (slices not chunks) and they give you a generous serving of beef. I wish there were more noodles though (you can't even see it in the photo) and a little less beef. Broth was tasty and well-seasoned. Not sure if they use MSG because it didn't taste too salty, but afterwards I needed to drink so much water (both times that I had it). Also tried the combination beef noodle soup. The tendon and tripe were great, lots of meat once again and not enough noodle. The beef chunks were overcooked; a little too dry on the inside but not inedible. Friend got the vegetable stir fry and there was a hair found in it...

Mian is a new noodle joint that just opened with the food hall, The Spot. The hand-pulled noodles are freshly made in-house, as you can see when you walk by. They also have thin noodles. I ordered the beef tendon noodle soup (~$10). The noodles were great, but the broth was lacking in flavor. The bowl of noodles is a pretty decent size. There are so many better beef noodle soups in Rockville (A&Js, Bob's Shanghai, etc). The beef tendon was cooked just fine. They offer chili oil and Chinese vinegar.

This spot has a big reputation when it comes to fresh pulled noodles. I don't know any other restaurant that does this in the DMV area. They do it well here! Mian is located inside of the new 99 Ranch Market in VA. They offer a variety of restaurants that include Mian as one of the stars. There is one main guy that pulls the noodles right in front of you so you can see how fresh they are doing it. When there is a rush, he is always on time with the noodles. The noodles are soft, and chewy but still have a bite to it. I tried a couple of there items: *Pork Burger *Assorted beef noodle *Spare rib noodle *Roasted duck noodle *Pan fried pork and chive dumpling Let's start with the burger, it could have been more saucy because it was a little dry. The flavor was there and the bread was good. The potstickers were amazing! I loved the flavor and I will definitely recommend getting them! Now to the main items the noodles! The assorted beef was my favorite. You can choose to get a spicy broth or original (I got original) it wasn't too sweet and you can get all the flavors from the beef. It had tripe, and 2-3 different cuts of beef. It came with onions, bok choy, and radish. Really great for a rainy day! The spare rib came with 3 pieces of pork ribs and the same onions and vegetables. Still flavorful and tasty! The roasted duck was so tender and crispy! I loved the skin of the duck cause it was still crispy and the meat was still tender and not dry at all! They have a variety of menu items that include stir fried noodles also. Check them out and see for yourself!

Fast bowl of hearty noodles and savory broth. What not to l Food: I love the flat, wide noodles!!! There's a few variety of beef with noodle soup but only one option for (roast) duck and (bbq) pork. The broth is savory and I feel the flavor is enhanced when you toss in the chili oil. Ambience: It's part of the spot food hall. Service: Fast hearty food. No complaints.

    Elizabeth K.

Picked up some noodles to go and got the spicy broth with the braised beef and hand shaved noodles. The hand shaved noodles were a great texture. The spicy broth would definitely be better if it was a bit spicier and it would have been better if they added more bokchoy. Would definitely get their noodle soup again and try out their other dishes the next time I go.

This was located at The Spot, my first time here. At first when I saw what the menu board had to offer, I thought it looked somewhat limited. I decided on the Flank Pulled Noodle which was around $10. It came with a ramekin of vinegar and chili oil. I split the bowl with a friend as we wanted to share another dish from another restaurant at The Spot. The soup wasn't as hot as you would expect. I thought for the price there should have been more meat and noodles. I thought the flank was ok but wasn't expecting tendons to be attached to it. I threw that away. My friend thought the soup was a bit salty but I thought it was fine. Not a bad soup shop but given that there are better ones nearby that give you a better bang for your buck, not sure it will bring in as much business.

I was super excited to try this place out in the Spot because they serve hand pullednoodles! Usually the noodles are so much better in soup when they are hand pulled! Unfortunately there isnt anything to rave about this place. I did like the noodles and that you can pick flat or thin noodles. It was also cool that you can watch them hand-pull the noodles. buuuut the flavor of the soup was slacking. wheres all the flavor!?!? I ordered the first soup which was just beef noodle soup. I also like my beef to be very tender, this was not. To open a place like this in Rockville, where we basically have our own little chinatown of great chinese restaurants, they gotta step up the flavor in the soup! It was almost $10 for a bowl (which wasnt a very big bowl) where you can go to many other chinese restaurants in the area for cheaper and better bowl of soup. They served dark vinegar and chili oil which i guess can make the soup better. but this place is nothing spectacular. so sad! Also, to walk around with a bowl of soup on a tray in a crowded area to look for a seat, is no fun. The soup wasnt even piping hot! i'd rather go to a sit down restaurant to order my soup so i dont have to carry it.

    Spencer Y.

I've tried their noodles and I've tried their chicken and mushroom dumplings. Both were okay. The dumpling skin was a bit too thick for me and not very juicy. The noodles are homemade with nice texture but seem very bland to me. The beef in the noodle bowls aren't very good in my opinion. Very sinewy with bits of fat. Even though the place is very mediocre to me, it's still nice to have a place that serves warm homemade noodle soup every once in awhile on a cold breezy day.

    Benjamin T.

I don't understand why there are so many poor reviews for Mian? I ordered a beef combo with hand pulled noodles. The broth and noodles were great. And the amount of each beef item such as the tripe and tendon was appropriate. I really feel that Mian will be busy and get better reviews during the winter months.

Be careful - as proof that this place is authentic, their "vegan" vegetable tofu noodle soup is served in beef broth. But once you hammer out the details of the ingredients, the taste is worthwhile. Ordered the beef combo knife slice noodle soup, pork soup dumplings, pork wontons with homemade spicy sauce, and the pan fried pork buns. The pan fried pork buns were the clear MVP here, perfectly crispy on the outside with that satisfying crunch, but soft and fluffy inside. Super filling too, which is always a win in my book. The beef noodle soup was solid comfort food with good portions, and the dumplings hit the spot. Only minor thing - I wished the "spicy sauce" had more kick to it. Could've used some extra heat, but that's me being picky. For the price and portion sizes, this place delivers (pun intended). You're getting a solid amount of food that actually tastes good. Recently, my friend was organizing a casual gathering for our friend group, and asked ChatGPT if there were any good recommendations for food in the area that was affordable and delicious, and A&J came up as a top choice. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu.
