    Pork bun

Every time I go to this mall, I have to stop by and get dumplings, specifically the pan fried pork buns! It's in the food court, so it's quick and easy service and good value for your money with the dumpling combo.

Walking through Montgomery Mall, we stopped by Dumpling for Life on a whim as we breezed through the food court and ordered a small (six pieces) Pan Fried Veggie Dumpling. The folks behind the counter were very friendly and the dumplings were out in a flash. Soft, tender, with a veggie mash and a few bits of corn and peas inside, they came with a soy dipping sauce and a spicy sauce (I preferred the soy version). Not bad for a little snack - I'll be back for the noodles soon. Hopefully Dumpling For Life will stick around for awhile.

I usually order tonkotsu and am hesitant to try others since the broth makes all the difference but I ordered the shoyu ramen this time and it was delicious! Lighter than tonkotsu broth but still super flavorful. And the noodles had that good chew/mouth feel which makes all the difference. I also ordered the house black tea with boba and cheese foam which was also oishii! I appreciated that they had brewed tea options since often find milk tea to be too much with food. Sometimes places that do both boba and food nail one, but not the other but this place was great on both fronts! Service was quick and friendly as well.

The pork broth is standout, but I absolutely dream about the spider ramen. Named for the fried softshell on the top (which you can ask to swap for more shrimp), has a tom yum-like flavor. Creamy, spicy and slightly acidic, the broth could be poured on cardboard and I would eat it. Noodles are always perfect and the seafood is present, but not a huge portion - so you can focus on the broth. My only complaint? The lobster broth in the spider ramen dish is not listed as an option for the "make your own" bowl...which would allow me to perfectly customize it. I will regularly order the spider bowl in the meantime with no softshell, extra shrimp, and if I'm feeling down additional noodles and broth (allowing me to indulge for multiple meals) . Bubble tea is tasty - especially the rose milk tea. This place has a counter with a handful of seats and two tables for 4-6. After waiting for a table, we decided to mostly do takeout. We can order online. Would be great if they had a spot out front for takeout pickup as parking around the restaurant can be hard at times.

We ate family style and ordered the scallion…read morepancakes, the spicy sesame paste tofu, the spicy oil wonton pork, the chive and pork dumplings and the sesame balls (filled with red bean paste). Total (not including tip) came out to approximately $49. What's Hot - Menu. Excellent. It's also written in Chinese in addition to English. For those of us familiar with traditional ethnic Chinese food, a menu written in Chinese is a good sign. They have traditional Taiwanese and Chinese food like scallion pancakes, sesame balls, beef noodle soup, soup dumplings, etc... Very good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, possibly with the exception of vegan dishes.. - Quality. Pretty good. Their scallion pancake was soft, not too oily, and not too salty. I prefer the scallion pancake to have been a bit more thick and flaky, but that's my personal preference. To be fair, still delicious. Their chive and pork dumplings definitely had a delicious chive flavor. Substantial and the wrapper was not too thick. Their spicy sesame paste tofu had a good flavor and substantive. The chili oil wontons were not too spicy and had a good flavor. Again, my personal preference would have been for the dumplings to have been more substantive, but still pretty decent. - Service. Pretty good. It appears most, if not all their staffers, speak Chinese (Mandarin), which was also helpful, because I specifically ordered in Chinese. I asked them about the spice level, because I wanted to ensure it would not be too spicy for my friend. - Price. Pretty good value for menu and portions. - Location. It's pretty easy to find. Also within convenient walking distance to the Silver Spring metro. The inside space is pretty good. Tables can seat a minimum of 2, all the way up to 8. What's Not - Quality. The sesame balls are smaller than I expected. They're the rough approximation of a ping pong ball, maybe smaller. I was disappointed, because I like sesame balls that are substantial. - Service. I specifically asked for soup spoons, because we were eating dumplings. Instead, they gave me regular spoons. Not all the dishes come out in the order you hope. For example, main dishes may come out before the appetizers. This is going to be dependent on your personal preference. - Parking. There is parking near the restaurant, but it's going to be dependent on the day and time. Final Answer Worth coming back.

I also feel like it's rare to be able to out these days and get a $12 entree where you feel like you had a good meal. You can also order online ahead and pick it up. Super easy. Just go directly to their website. I feel like they do takeout pretty well.

My companion liked his vegan tan tan ramen. I got the classic menri dashi shoyu ramen. Hard to say what the star ingredient was, both the broth and noodles were excellent. The noodles were hand made and had a great texture and chew. The broth was rich with a depth of dashi chicken and kombu. Taste was clean. Tender thinly sliced chashu, seaweed and greens rounded out the bowl.

There's only free parking on Sundays. The pork soup dumplings were full of soup. The desserts, roast pork pastry, and pork shu mai were hot and freshly cooked. For soup, I liked the pork ribs and lotus soup better than the fish ball soup which was bland. I've had better cucumber salads, stir fried green beans, steamed pork ribs, and sesame noodles. The honey riblets are good if you like very sweet ribs. There were a lot of servers coming constantly asking if you want to order more. There is a forced 18% gratuity for tip if you choose to have the AYCE. I liked how the portion sizes were small so you can try a variety of dishes.

The location here is near the metro, but seems out of place in a building without other restaurants kind of hidden below the street level. They seemed to acknowledge everyone other than me who was there for takeout, but I finally got mine. I tried a fried rice and was irritated that there was a no egg option but not a no broccoli option (not a Chinese vegetable mind you), which left me with little more than a colored rice to pick through. The tofu with hot peppers hit a nice heat but not the best rendition of this dish I've had in terms of flavor complexity. The best thing I got was a dan dan noodle dish with some vicious sauce and little tofu bites. Overall though, scant portions for the money, and not quite the experience I was hoping for.

Their entrees are bursting with flavor and at such a good price point for Bethesda. Their menu is on the walk when you walk in and you order from the person at the counter. All their vegan options are labeled and they use seitan as their protein. I ordered the vegan flaming beef and my friend tried the vegan vegetable curry. The presentation of both meals was stunning! I love that the beef came with a side salad and the curry came with a generous portion of rice and garnish on the curry. The seitan beef was cooked so well! It was a great texture and was meaty without being too realistic. The flavor was so savory and seasoned perfectly. I did not want to put my fork down I gobbled my meal up! I did not try the curry but definitely want to order it next time as my friend enjoyed it. I am so thankful this business has many vegan options and all the vegetarian items were cheaper than the meat entrees. It was only $12 for dinner in Bethesda which is so hard to find. I am definitely coming back to try more of the menu and telling all my friends about this local treasure.
