Our party of 4 adults and 4 young kids had a great dinner. We ordered 4 appetizers and 2 entrees and 1 bowl of noodle. The total was $105 before tip. The portion for the price was amazing. The kids cannot handle any spices, so they ate the fried wonton, pork noodle, beef chow fun, salty fried pork chop, and soup dumplings. They loved everything. The portions are huge and the sourness is on point. ziranyang cumin lamb - extremely tender lamb; it was super super cumin forward. Big fan of cumin personally but will say also a little on the overwhelming side if you didn't stagger it with rice Fuqifeipian cold tripe and beef - very solid cold appetizer. I stopped by to dine at Sichuan Jin river restaurant this past Monday, 7 September I ordered some appetizers. One was the Dan Dan noodles, which is an oily spicy noodle with garlic and scallions. The other was a sliced marinated cucumber The Dan Dan noodles pasta was the inexpensive commercial type that you would find for what I call American style spaghetti. This was not a Chinese style pasta, and I really felt short changed not only on the quality but on the digestibility. Seriously if you're going to serve a cuisine like this, don't use American style spaghetti pasta. It makes you look cheap and unprofessional and lacking, caring for the quality of food. ( i've had better Dan Dan noodles with the Chinese style pasta noodles, and other restaurants nearby.) The marinated cucumber was OK, but I found the skin a little bit chewy that would've been worthwhile just to appeal the skin off for the next time I don't think I'm gonna be persuaded myself to come back here to dine, but I thought I'd give my two cents On a bright note, the service from the staff was excellent read more

I went to Sichuan Jin River for Easter dinner and had a great experience! The restaurant was packed, but we only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Our waiter was attentive when taking our order and our food arrived to our table very quickly. We started off with the Seasoned Shredded Pork Ears which were served in a sesame oil sauce and topped with julienned green onions. We also got a scallion pancake which was a little less flaky than I'm used to but still delicious. We also ordered the spinach with garlic which was simply seasoned and was refreshing when paired with our other dishes. For our first meat dishes we ordered the double cooked pork which had a kick but was not overly spicy. We also ordered the basil chicken with ginger which was served on a hot plate and was my favorite dish of the night! The staff at the restaurant were very efficient with seating tables, packing to-go boxes and cleaning tables after parties left. Shredded Pig ear with Hot Chilli oil is tasty and there is NO jelly like stuff like other restaurant. We love it. Cumin Pork Intestine was DELICIOUS. It was crispy on outside and tender inside. Intestine was cleaned pretty well and not smelly at all. (I am very sensitive to smell) Duck blood aka Pork blood hot pot taste EXACTLY the same as sichuan flavor hotpot sauce packet from Great Wall grocery store. Quite tasty and it included tribes, intestines and pig blood. Lomain pork taste like typical chinese takeout. We were there for food so we were not paying attention to the atmosphere that they lack. Been going here for almost a decade and the food never disappoints, quality is always consistent. Dishes come out quickly, service is always friendly. This trip we had steamed pork buns with ya-cai, mapo tofu and chicken with ya-cai. Didn't have the buns but was told the filling was generous, with plenty of pork chunks and preserved veggies (ya-cai). The mapo tofu had the right amount of scallions, numbing peppercorn, chilis and chili oil. It was satisfyingly spicy. The chicken with ya-cai had ground sautéed chicken, peppers, onions and ya-cai for some saltiness. This entree came with steamed buns, perfect to stuff with the ground meat filling. read more

Long overdue review... Sichuan Jin River has been one of my go-to Chinese restaurants for years, and truly one of the best in the area. A few dishes have become staples for me -- always consistent, always delicious. Their stir-fry pork with fresh hot peppers and dried bean curd is a hidden gem tucked away on the appetizer menu. At only $10.95, it comes out as a generous dinner-size portion and is one of the best values in town. Other standouts: Moo Shu Chicken -- perfectly executed every time. Basil Chicken -- fragrant and flavorful. Flounder with sour pickled cabbage & peppers -- an unbelievable soup I crave regularly. Flounder with Chinese greens -- and in fact, all their fish dishes are outstanding (I've tried them all). General Guan's Cumin Chicken -- bold, spicy, and addictive. Black Pepper Beef in Hot Plate -- sizzling and packed with flavor. Sliced Beef with Enoki Mushroom Sour Soup -- rich, tangy, and hearty. One note: their dumplings/wontons with hot sauce used to be incredible, loaded with garlic and flavor. Unfortunately, the sauce hasn't been the same for the past few years, so I'll be skipping that dish from now on. Most entrees are $8-10, and we always have a ton of leftovers for the next day or two. Usually, we spend about $45 on 3 entrees for 2-4 people. The atmosphere is no-frills, but go for the food. I came here a ton as a kid and came by fairly recently with my family for the first time in over a decade. I'd say, overall, it was hit or miss. I unfortunately don't know the names of too many of the dishes I ordered in English, as many are traditional Chinese dishes. However, the classic dishes that I remembered as a kid are just as good as they used to be. A couple, on the other hand, were fairly mediocre. Big fan of the hai xian guo ba, but the tofu dish that we got was fairly average. Service is good, so no complaints there. This is a fairly authentic restaurant, so keep that in mind (all the servers speak fluent Chinese). read more

Truly cannot recommend this place enough -- Sichuan Jin River is my new go-to for authentic and delicious Chinese food! They have a wide array of my childhood classics, and they certainly take the "Sichuan" in their name seriously, so be prepared for some heat (and some numbing)! I came with a group of four on a chilly, rainy DMV evening, the perfect weather for some hot Chinese fare. We got an array of seafood and veggies, including their Whole Fish & Bean Jelly in Hot Sichuan Sauce, Mapo Tofu (without the pork), Stir-Fried String Beans, and Crispy Rice Cake & Vegetables in White Sauce. It's hard to pick a favorite from that list since every single item was executed to perfection. As far as the proteins go, the fish was delightfully tender and perfectly seasoned; the Sichuan hot sauce absolutely packed a punch and paired wonderfully with the steaming white rice. I appreciated that the kitchen allowed us to modify the mapo tofu to take out the pork, and I'm so glad we had the opportunity to try it! Like the fish, the tofu was super tender and the hot, numbing sauce was perfect. The veggies were equally delicious -- the string beans were crispy on the outside and soft in the center, with a great char from the wok and a huge punch of flavor from the blackened garlic. Both the crispy rice cakes and vegetables were certainly crispy; the veggies were fresh and not too overcooked, and they paired wonderfully with the light white sauce. If you do order this one, definitely try to eat it quickly, though, as the crispy rice cakes will lose their battle with the sauce after 10-20 minutes and get a touch soggy. Not only was everything delicious, but it was also super affordable! Our individual bills (not including tip, but including tax and two other meat dishes beyond what I listed above) came out to ~$20! Not bad at all for a DMV restaurant and a pretty hefty meal. So if you're craving some authentic, no-frills Sichuan food at an affordable price point, definitely give Sichuan Jin River a try! read more

Rockville has TWO top-notch Sichuan restaurants that go way beyond the fare usually offered by Chinese restaurants in the USA. SICHUAN JIN RIVER is a longtime secret, located behind the fire station off Beall Ave at Rte. 355. Spicy ma-la entrees are the main attractions (get the Chicken with Dry Hot Pepper a.k.a. 3-pepper chicken) accompanied by some excellent dry pot cauliflower, cabbage or eggplant veg dishes. If you order fried rice, lo mein or any sweet&sour dish, you'll waste time, money and a great opportunity. YI PIN is well North on 355 past the auto dealers, opposite King Farm, in the last commercial development on the right, before Shady Grove Road. Yi Pin, a child of the successful Philadelphia Chinatown Yi Pin, has hard-core Chongqing (Chunking to Americans) fiery, aromatic specialties. My faves are the ma-la spicy Cold Kidney appetizer (You won't believe it's organ meat!), Twice-Cooked Pork Belly, and one of the stirfried cabbage with chopped pork rind, the Sichuan dry-fried greenbeans, or the cold, crisp water-lily pod in red sauce. I recommend you pass by the cumin-anything, the over-cooked pig's trotter, and the usual USA-Chinese restaurant menu filler. Oh wow!! Sichuan Jin River is the place to go for authentic Sichuan food. I lived in Sichuan for half a year and visited a couple more times after that. I really miss the food and eating here brought me right back! Everything I had from the Dan Dan noodles to the fish and Sichuan green beans were delicious! The chili oil and spices were on point, and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I would recommend going with more people so you can try multiple dishes...OR keep everything for yourself As for the service and ambiance, I liked how it was a family-owned Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere was a bit noisy because we were surrounded by big groups. The prices were very reasonable. The food was good and the portions big. Tips were not automatically added even for a party of six, unlike other restaurants. You really get good bang for your buck here. We ordered: 4*Sauteed Spinach with Garlic 大蒜菠菜: it was pretty good for a simple spinach dish. 3*Mixed Vegetables素什锦: the white sauce was a bit salty for a healthy dish like this. I assume people order this for health reasons, so it should be light. 4*Diced Spicy Chicken Salad 成都口水雞: flavor was not strong enough for me; needs a bit more spice to get the desired flavor. 4*Duck Feet with Hot Chili Sauce 紅油鸭掌. I am salivating as I am writing my review on this. I was able to enjoy the flounder on its own without rice, but you can generously pour the broth/sauce on top of your rice for extra flavor, which is what our table did. I'd highly recommend this for the incredible tender texture of flounder and the taste was top-notched. SNOW PEA SHOOT - 17.95 We wanted to at least be a bit healthy so we wanted vegetables. Between this or the classic Sichuan green beans, I'm glad we chose the pea shoots tonight. They definitely added a good amount of chicken bouillon or MSG to the vegetables, but it worked out because it was tasty. The way they stir-fried the pea shoots were perfect as the texture of each pea shoot was enjoyable. Crunchy, but fully-cooked, and the pea shoots tasted fresh to me. Also, enjoyed the generous amount of garlic in this dish. Super yummy - would recommend paying a bit extra for the pea shoots instead of green beans. Coming from a non-Sichuan Chinese person, maybe this doesn't mean much if you have a more refined Sichuan cuisine palette. My Sichuan friend thought the food was just OK/decent, but my other friend and I definitely enjoyed the food more than he did! However, I do think that Sichuan Jin River has the best Sichuan food I've had in the DMV area given its price and style. We have been coming to Jin River for spicy Chinese foods since 2015. Great location, next to the block, right by Rockville town center area. Their dishes spices are not the spiciest but the SiChuan flavor is authentic. From meats to fish to all sorts of Chinese pastries are all very delicious. Also don't forget to try their smoked duck meat, one of my favorite. The customer service has always being friendly and attentive. Pricing is reasonable. The restaurant has been here forever, but it does not seem like any renovation has been done on it, so looks dated both inside and outside. There are plenty parkings out front and around, BE AWARE, only the ones right in front of the restaurant with no pay parking signs are free. Others are all pay to park. We ate here for the first time tonight. We were seated on the lower side of the restaurant, which is decidedly NOT at all attractive. All of the restaurant's back stock of napkins, cups, etc are stacked in plain sight of all of the tables on that side of the restaurant. The scallion pancake was really good. Could've used more scallions cooked inside, but there was enough to give it good flavor. The man ordered the steamed pork buns and they were, according to him, delicious. They were also enormous! (see photo). The man ordered the General Tso chicken, which came pretty quickly and (he says) was really good. My tofu with mixed vegetables took another 10 minutes, which was unusual. I was not at all impressed with my dish. Everything was overcooked to the point of mushiness, there was way too much oil, and the flavor was just a little strange. Sichuan Jim River was a mixed bag. I grew up eating authentic Chinese food. At Sichuan Jin River, we ordered Szechuan spicy chicken. It came not stirred fried with hot pepper and spicy sauce but the chicken was battered and deep fried like deep fried pop corn chicken with no authentic Szechaun spices. I asked the waiter why the chicken pieces were deep friend? He said, I thought since you're going to have wine with dinner so deep fried pop corn chicken will go better with your meal. It was greasy, salty and hard to chew. The hot and sour soup was luke warm and had to be sent back to the kitchen. It came back 20 minutes later. The spicy green beans were not spicy but again, deep fried with no flavor. I am wondering maybe the chef had a day off and someone who had no knowledge of cooking Szechuan cuisine tried to cook. We were at this restaurant 6 months ago and had a very satisfying meal. But this time, it was very bad. I wonder if the ownership has changed.
