This little storefront restaurant had the prettiest bathroom! Asian tiles in dark blue with white patterns, some looked like sashiko embroidery. And, it was spotlessly clean. I loved that! We were welcomed and looked at the extensive menu featuring homemade soup dumplings. I love soup dumplings. I was with 2 other diners so I had only one-third voting privileges. We ordered Peking pancake which was thin crust and ok. We ordered edamame which was delish- steamed perfectly with just the right amount of salt. We ordered char sui steamed buns. The meat inside was very good but since I'm not a fan of steamed bun bread, my companions enjoyed them! The dumplings: we should have gotten more!! We ordered crab and pork soup dumplings- my preference is not to mix those two proteins so I had one and moved on. One of us liked them- she was happy!! The chicken soup dumplings were excellent. I could have polished them all off by myself happily. But alas, l had to share. I think I got 3/5 of them though!! The place is spotless and the food going to other tables looked great. Yum! Great food and friendly service in a very cute and spotlessly clean storefront. My mom, friend, and I stopped in for lunch and very much enjoyed it. We started with the Peking beef pancake and edamame. It was a huge portion of perfectly steamed edamame. The Peking beef pancake was pretty good too, with a thin crispy crust. We then ordered the char siu buns, chicken soup dumplings, and crabmeat and pork dumplings. Everybody loved the chicken soup dumplings and we all agreed that the char siu was yummy. Opinions were mixed on the crab meat and pork soup dumplings. I like them, but neither of my dining companions did. Can't win them all. The service here was good, which seems to be the baseline around here. People are friendly, things run smoothly, and you're generally taken care of. But when it comes to the food, it's hard to find anything that really stands out or makes you want to come back specifically for that dish. If you're searching for your go-to spot--the kind of place that becomes your Chinese spot, your Vietnamese spot, your kebab or Italian place--you may have a tough time finding it here. New Dumping and Dum Sum place in NoBe, MD Beloved Chinese Language Teach open this hot and tasty dumplings place around a month or so ago. First off, I love the name, it has personality and not a generic name. The business is fast casual and the decor includes an original mural, old school and traditional tables and chairs, and a beautiful tiles. Now, to the most important part, the food. We ordered steamed chicken dumplings, pan fried pork dumplings and tasty wontons in this delicious sauce. Each order of dumplings cost about $12. I did try to order the lunch special, which offers a lot for a truly amazing price but is only available during the week. We were in the mood for dumplings after a day at the museums in Washington DC. Jinlan is on 355 Rockville Pike quite close to Grosvenor Strathmore Metro in a strip mall. Since it was past lunch there wasn't much of a crowd. We got a very welcome reception. I think you can order at the kiosk if you want takeout. I started with an Asahi beer and others ordered Dahongpao Tea. The rates are very reasonable. I loved the spicy Chicken Dumplings, they would serve well as starters for the table but sufficient if you are not a heavy eater. From the special dumpling menu we chose the Chicken and Basil Dumplings and they came in a bamboo basket with a very delicious sauce on the side. The other order of Chicken Wanton Soup was very sumptuous and tasty. Plates were monogrammed and made from ceramic and the chopsticks were excellent. We will be back to taste other items from the menu or take carryout. Definitely recommend this restaurant for dim sum. They have some outside seating too. read more

Tastes like home. I was really pleasantly surprised but the flavors are so nostalgic for me. The meat baos are fluffy and fillings are umami, come in a set of 2 large baos straight from the steamer. Definitely recommend dining in since these aren't as good if you get take out and it's been sitting for awhile. These feel like the northern raised dough baos I grew up eating that my grandparents used to make. We also got the traditional steamed pork and veggie dumplings. Def recommend steamed over fried for these. There's 8 dumplings and while it's only 8, they're pretty big and worth the price for me. We also got wonton noodle soup. It's a very clean taste, but the filling has the aroma of sesame oil, also very nostalgic for me and feels more northern. We will definitely be back for more. We started inhaling everything I only remembered to take pic of the baos. Saw another review that said there was an extra charge when using a credit card, so I immediately went to check our receipt. Behind the counter is the open kitchen (with good aromas of wok fried food). The side walls are adorned with very pretty painted murals. While they specialize in dumplings they offer small plate appetizers and typical Chinese restaurant fare (Mongolian beef, sautéed string beans, orange chicken, ect). We got vegetable dumplings (pan fried), chicken and basil dumplings (steamed) and house special tofu. The tofu came with rice. It had a nice spicy kick and was cooked with Napa cabbage and scallions. The star was the chicken dumplings. The filling was full, meat was flavorful and juicy and went well with the chopped basil. The vegetable dumplings were good as well. They don't use plant-based ground meat, but an array of goods like carrots, cabbage, corn, mushroom, ect. Both dumpling choices reminded me of home. read more

I love the traditional pork bokchoy dumplings. Lamb cilantro dumplings is the flat one, not plump like traditional one. I think they use store bought thin skin. The reason is because when it is homemade, usually skin is thicker. The wonton soup has very surprising clean flavor broth. It almost made me think it can use a bit more salt. Purist flavor surprisingly. Eating here gives me the feeling of eating delicious homemade food instead of heavy oily restaurant food feel. I first found out about this place through Instagram when they were selling dumplings at farmers markets. After looking them up, I saw their dumplings were only available at different market locations. Now that they finally have a restaurant in Rockville, I can actually go try them! My first impression was great--the flower-shaped tables and fiber-stitched wall on the left really stood out. The small menu is also a good sign, showing they likely focus on quality over quantity. Being a big dumpling fan, my husband and I ordered four kinds to try. What I liked most was the thin dumpling wrappers--they're light, so you don't feel too full from the dough. The fillings were also well-balanced, Not greasy or overly sweet like some pork dumplings I've had in Germantown. I'd love to come back to try their noodles, chive pockets, and eggplant with garlic sauce. A few things I hope for next time: 1. Slightly more filling in the dumplings, especially the veggie ones. 2. Soy milk, salted soy milk (咸豆漿), and dumpling soup on the menu. 3. Keep the flavors authentic--not Americanized. 4. Buyer beware They charge hidden fees that you will miss if you do not closely examine your receipt. When I ordered my carryout, I asked the young lady at the register whether there was a charge for credit card use. She said no. I paid the bill and looked at the receipt and there was a a fee charged in addition to the sales tax. I showed the receipt to the manager and I asked her the reason for the fee. She said it's a charge for using your credit card. There was no sign at the register and there was nothing on the menu disclosing the extra fee they charge for credit card use. This is sharp practice. They seem to think we won't notice. read more

Great new place in Rockville! Bright, clean, fun ambience with lots of art on the walls and even the floor tiles are super cool-looking, what with waves carved into them -- wow! The dumplings are great, the service is great, the desserts are totally awesome and super-tasty! I can attest to the absolute deliciousness of the Jasmine Tea Boba mochi ice cream and also the Green Tea mochi ice cream. Interestingly (a major long-term lover of matcha ice cream!), I enjoyed the Jasmine Tea Boba mochi ice cream better than the matcha ones (You get two pieces per order.) -- and the three pieces of steamed ube dessert dumplings were warmed up to super-hot and came served in the steamer, well, steaming hot! They were absolutely delectable. The Dumplings with cucumbers and peanut sauce -- that they thankfully made vegetarian for me -- was delightful. The green onion pocket was a very happy-making treat! So, in conclusion, I must conclude this to be a delicious, delectable delight of a happiness-inducing place to visit! Was excited to try this place but it fell short. We ordered the spring rolls which were obviously frozen and still cold in the middle. We also got an order of the bulgogi gyoza which were dripping in oil and had nothing in common with bulgogi. The shrimp steamed dumplings were alright but the lamb ones were inedible due to a strong smell that reminded me of rotten meat. These 4 dishes came out to $60 which is quite steep for dim sum. Ordered the pork soup dumplings, pork and chive steamed dumplings, spicy shrimp and pork wontons, scallion pancakes, and the shrimp lo mein. Spicy wontons were great. Good sauce, wrap was just right. Lo mein was delicious. Appreciated that there was a good amount of veggies in the lo mein. The soup dumpling skin was a bit thicker than I'm used to, but still good. The scallion pancake is thin and crispy, not very flaky, which is my preference. That was fine. Each person at the table had a different favorite, but we all agreed we would come back. 4.5 starts. There were supposed to be four shrimp shu mai in the order; two were regular size and two were extremely small- I felt ripped off. The worst was Ma Po beef with tofu. There was no Ma Po flavor at all. It was pieces of bean curd and beef in a thick brown sauce with absolutely no flavor. I had the jinlan signature shrimp dumplings and sichuan spicy wontons. The dumplings were very thin and thus had no firmness to the bite, the dipping sauce was watered down. The wontons were yummy, but there are a few places near downtown Rockville that I think are better for both dishes. The tables are set nicely. The space is small and clean, the service is friendly. Seeing a 5.0 rating on a new dumpling place, I was excited to try it but won't be back with better options a couple miles north. YMMV. read more
