Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

The food is wonderful and well presented. The decor, however, which suited its original hot pot requirements, needs updating. Maybe 3-5 people as the sweet spot? Things I'd definitely get again: spicy wonton soup, bean curd and thousand year preserved egg. The beef noodle soup was good. The pork and rice I would skip (and the veggie dumplings- they're good but took a lot longer than the rest to come out, I forgot about them!). There was a mosquito in the dining area and so they got a meal too unfortunately. I do wish it was better ventilated while dining in but it's so good!! The place was packed coming in about 7:45p (close at 9) on a Sunday night. It's definitely worth stopping in and now that I'm 15 min away after moving closer, I could become a regular!!!

I came pretty much right when they opened, which was the move, because it was already pretty busy. I ordered the spicy beef tendon noodle soup, pork soup dumplings (which I thought were going to be pork buns based on the description but whatever), scallion pancakes, 1000 layer pancake, szechuan style dumplings, and smoked chicken. I thought everything was really good, despite having somewhat confusing descriptions on the menu. The dumplings were super spicy and I only ate a few, and took the rest home. The portions are surprisingly large, the soup came with additional bowls which made sharing easy. The only downside is really the size and noise. It is a tiny restaurant, and it gets crowded, so it can be quite loud.

This was, by far, the worst experience I have ever had at a local restaurant…read more My neighbors and I decided to celebrate a birthday at this neighborhood Chinese restaurant. We ordered the Human Delight and specifically requested that it be prepared without any spicy sauce, as two of us cannot tolerate spicy food. When the food arrived, each of us served ourselves and immediately realized the dish was spicy. We called the waiter, who acknowledged that he had entered the order correctly as non-spicy. He took all of our plates, along with the entire entrée, back to the kitchen. When the replacement arrived, we immediately noticed it was served on a much smaller platter and contained no shrimp or scallops, even though those are standard ingredients in Human Delight. We asked the waiter why the dish was smaller and missing key ingredients. Instead of addressing our concern, he appeared annoyed and asked, "What do you want me to do?" We simply asked for the dish we had originally ordered and paid for: Human Delight with shrimp, scallops, beef, chicken, and pork, prepared without the spicy sauce. The waiter then called the manager. The manager identified himself as the cook and stated that he would not add more shrimp or scallops. We explained that we had not eaten the original dish because it was prepared incorrectly and that the entire entrée had been taken back to the kitchen along with our plates. Instead of apologizing and correcting the mistake, he said he needed to inspect the returned plates. After doing so, he claimed he had found only "half a shrimp" on one plate--something that was simply untrue. Eventually, he brought out a third version of the dish. Although it was still noticeably smaller than the original portion, he said he had added "three shrimp and three scallops" this time although he could not account for the rest after checking our plates. We are three women in our 60s and 70s, and we were shocked by how we were treated. Rather than apologizing for serving the wrong order, the staff questioned our honesty and acted as though we were trying to get something we had not asked for. The way this situation was handled was unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable. We left feeling insulted rather than valued as customers. We will not be returning, and we cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good customer service or food.

She said let's go eat Chinese food and I thought, oh lord, another Panda Express or some hole in wall that had the generic dishes from takeout restaurants. I'm used to driving to VA for more authenticity, but I was surprised! Didn't know this gem existed in this area! Cantonese and Hong Kong food and more! They catered to all Asian ethnicities with focus on hometown favorites that my mom used to make me, and I was so excited when I saw the menu. The place was smaller than expected but packed with people! I thought I was in NYC for a bit, but nope, just Rockville. We had a specialty fish dish, along with a few of their specials that had beef and vegetables. Okay, I grew up in a Chinese Restaurant, but if you wanted me to list out the specialty dishes, I can't. I really was just busy being surprised and busy eating. And we ate ALOT! Food was great! I would definitely come back here more often. I do like that there were a lot of locals who were there, so you know it's a good place! There's no basic dishes here, just authentic and tasty!

I think it is because I prefer spicy food and went to other restaurants in Rockville with Szechuan and Hunan food. This is a storefront space but is comfortable inside with high ceilings. I was brought a full pot of strong black tea when I sat down, and I drank most of it. I ordered egg rolls and Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup. The eggs were crispy and mostly filled with cabbage, but they were well seasoned came with the potent spicy mustard. I put too much mustard on the first eggroll and thought my egg was going to explode but I got past that. The soup came about five minutes later. The soup tasted like a chicken base with Chinese broccoli and wontons had whole pieces of shrimp in them and thin noodles. It had a very good balance of flavors. East Pearl also has lunch menu that I will try on my next visit. My lunch cost $15.85 plus tip, an outstanding value.
