So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? When the food cane out we were shocked by the portion size. It was way bigger than we were expecting. The flavor of the food was good but a little messy. One dish we ordered was a little bland and the other 2 were pretty salty if not eaten with rice. The fish was not as crispy on the outside as I thought it would be but the inside was super tender and cooked very well. The color wasnt right but the flavor was there. It could've used a little more seasoning on top but it was good either way. The chicken we ordered was extremely spicy, which I liked, but it was pretty spicy. The pork we ordered was okay. It wasnt super authentic because they didnt cut the meat correctly but the flavor was there. Altogether I liked this restaurant and the prices were extremely fair considering their portion size. The bean curd was also very crispy and the sauce was rich and savory. The serving chow foon was massive and very tasty. The Pan fried dumplings were also decent flavor (albeit could use more meat filling) and were fried well. N5 Yibin Dry noodles were flavorful with that slight mala kick. The beef brisket rice noodles in golden soup was surprising. I was expecting a different broth, but to my surprise it was the sour mustard green broth. Tangy and flavorful without being too heavy. After this round, would actually say I would come back again.

Located near Town Center in Rockville, it's tucked behind the Walgreens in a plaza. I placed a take out order but will say that the restaurant was PACKED! There was a regular menu and a dim sum menu which I could appreciate. I ordered the basics: combo fried rice (chicken and shrimp), vegetable spring rolls, sesame chicken and jasmine rice and egg soup. The rice and super flavorful and worth the 15 min wait. The sesame chicken was great as well. The egg drop soup was overwhelming with eggs, so it was ok. Not bad but I didn't expect so much egg. Also, the spring rolls could have been fried a little harder. Ver crispy on the outside but once I bit into it, the soft texture threw me off. But it was nothing that my air fryer couldn't fix! Overall, service was quick and easy and friendly. There were a few normal patrons that our cashier knew so that was a great sign. I loved the fact that I was able to see their accolades on the walls and there's an open window that allows you to see the food prep, which was neat! Overall I'd give it a 4/5 and will be back!

They catered to all Asian ethnicities with focus on hometown favorites that my mom used to make me, and I was so excited when I saw the menu. There are several items on the menu, such as pig ears and stinky tofu, which are authentic Taiwanese food and not easy to find in any Chinese restaurant. There's something for everyone- meats, veggies, seafood, and vegans. I was able to speak to two staffers in Mandarin, which tells me their staff know authentic Chinese food. I also asked them if they had a specific green veggie. The staffer knew exactly which one I was talking about and responded no, but provided me the options they do have on the menu. This place seems pretty legit. - Quality. Absolutely delicious. The pig ears appetizer was appropriately seasoned, not too salty, and sliced thinly. Pig ears is a dish that if sliced incorrectly, makes it difficult to chew. The you cai was stir fried well and came with a fair amount of garlic cloves, which added a delicious flavor to the veggies. It was not too salty and came with a nice sauce, that could drench the rice. - Location. Fairly easy to find in Rockville and there's a decent parking garage in the plaza. It's a rather small restaurant, with a bigger space in the back for larger parties. Their booths appear to hold groups of 4, maybe 6. The front of the restaurant is more narrow and more for single diners. - Service. I came around noon and there were 2 other customers, that I could see. My order was ready and packaged in approximately less than 15 minutes. They provided white rice with my takeaway order, which I didn't order. There are more restaurants that charge you extra for white rice, so that rice is automatically included with your order is something I appreciate. - Cost. For the quality, portions, and specific dishes, good value for money. What's not - Quality. The stinky tofu was not adequately stinky (I.e., fermented). It was well-seasoned and came with the appropriate sauce and pickled vegetables, but the flavor did not hit the mark. I was disappointed. I've had authentic stinky tofu in Taiwan, so I know exactly what is considered good and what to expect. - Takeaway containers. The 3 dishes were packed in plastic containers, which mostly did the job. However, each dish has its own sauce. As such, the containers did not do an adequate job of containing the sauces. The takeaway containers were placed in a paper bag, placed in a plastic bag. That helped, because each of the containers leaked sauce, which broke the paper bag and leaked into the plastic bag. I mainly bring this up to prepare you if you order takeaway. - Credit card. The credit card reader had some difficulty, in the beginning, to read my credit card. When I signed for the balance, I was automatically charged a 6% tip. Not cool, cause I don't appreciate that it was automatic.
