This is my first order from Oriental Café. It was a delivery order in the early afternoon. I had their general tso's chicken lunch. when I added soup, fried rice versus steam rice and an eggroll the total came to almost $23. That's why I didn't call it a lunch special because $23 is not very special for a small portion lunch. Let's start with the hot and sour soup. It was visually pleasing, very good viscosity, but very little flavor. I was looking for woodear and there was none. Possibly two very small pieces of mushroom, and Julienned carrots. The bulk of the soup was finally chopped tofu To make the soup more pleasing, I added hot chili oil and white pepper. That perked the soup up a bit. I would give the soup a three, and with my additions may be a four Fried rice The fried rice was dull and tasteless. Fortunately, it wasn't overwhelmed with soy sauce, but there was no other flavor at all. It desperately needed seasoning. I would give the rice a 2 General tso's chicken The pieces of chicken, covered with a very average sweet sauce, were mostly breading. it wasn't awful, but it certainly was not one of the better General Tso's chicken that i have had in the DMV. My go-to order is just the typical sesame chicken with rice and the portion size is reasonable with a few pieces of broccoli. The sesame chicken is a bit too bready but overall fine, and the rice is pretty warm and fluffy. They are also incredibly fast at pick-up orders, I called in my order and then my food was ready in under 10 minutes. Ordered Oriental Café off of Uber Eats last night and since there is no way to leave a review there, I wanted to leave one here. Unfortunately, this was probably the most bland Chinese food I have ever eaten. My partner and I ordered the following: Sesame Chicken, Combination Lo Mein, Teriyaki Chicken On Stick. Nothing really tasted much like anything. I could understand if it was just one menu item, I'd assume it was a one off. But it was all so bland. I decided to pop by to pick up dinner on my way home. I tried entering from the back but it's closed, likely because they closed the dining area. It's just a takeout place it seems. Upon entering, the menus are laid out for you to go over at the counter. Unfortunately the prices are not on the menu and the prices I saw on their online menu are not updated. There's a 5% discount if you pay with cash. I ordered and was told the food would be ready in 15-20 minutes, but I think it was done a lot sooner. The sauces and utensils are on the side beside the counter. I ordered the Szechuan Beef, combination fried rice and black boba milk tea. The food was good but ordinary, like any other Chinese spot. The Szechuan beef dish came with more onion, carrots and green pepper than it did the actual meat; also, it wasn't spicy at all. There's a chili pepper next to it on the menu to indicate that there's some spiciness there but it's ok, I'll just let them know to make it spicier next time. As a boba fanatic, I ordered the boba because any time I see it somewhere, I have to get it. The tea they used tasted like authentic Chinese tea so it was pretty good! Ive been a loyal customer from this location for 3 years and have only had a problem 1 time where I wanted to get a partial refund from my last order. I got delivery but they asked me to come into the store to get a refund and I did that, no problem. I call to place another order like 2 weeks later and they are denying me service. They won't take my order after this 1 issue from 100s of previous orders. I find this to be a big red flag in the service industry. I read a decent review of this establishment's orange chicken and thought why not try a few other staples to see if I'd like this restaurant - I didn't. The orange chicken with white rice was tasty with the proper seasoning. However, the orders of steamed dumplings seemed to be immersed in a sauce that was based on nothing but sweetener.On the flip side, the hot and sour soup might as well been nothing but hot water and peppering for "heat." Loved their chicken fried rice. It was perfectly hot without burning your mouth and tasted so good. It wasn't salty or bland. The honeydew bubble tea I got was a bit too sweet, and when I finished drinking the tea, there was a residual substance at the bottom all over the pearls. I think it's the powder mixed together with the tea, but in a more solid form. It was a bit phlegm-y in texture. Sorry for the graphics. It was not a pleasant texture when I consumed a part of it. Ordered from here a few more times before figuring out that some veggie chicken dishes were amazing, others were bad. The general tsos and sesame veggie chicken are great. Pass on the kung Pao and veggie chicken with rice noodles. Learned lesson, the fried veggie chicken dishes have been good, the rest are meh. read more

UGHHHH Please update me when they fix their spring rolls. They are wrapped in something similar to wonton wrapper consistency so when it's fried, it's all raw in the center. I'm strongly hoping that this isn't how they are made regularly, and I'd love to try them again if it's spring roll wrapper instead of thick dough stuff. BLEH. The family came here over a weekend for lunch, as "lunch special" caught our attention. They had some good choices, and each lunch special comes with a dish, a rice - regular or fried, and a spring roll. We got the sweet n sour chicken with fried rice, and beef broccoli with fried rice, and some noodles. Each comes with a spring roll. The sweet n sour chicken was also the worst sweet n sour chicken I've had. I'm guessing the sweet n sour chicken around this area is pretty much breaded chicken, similar to nuggets, but thicker breading, with the sauce on the side. The pieces of chicken were practically all dough.. at least my half was. UGH. The fried rice was actually decent, so I finished that. The beef broccoli wasn't too bad, but the noodles had no flavor. False Advertisement. Ordered the lunch menu which includes an egg roll as it shows online and in their store. I ordered an extra egg roll and all they gave me is one egg roll. I had to go back and get the egg roll that is supposed to come with the lunch special. The lady inside argued with me that they don't offer egg rolls anymore so disregard the menu online. I then tell her it's posted inside your restaurant and you need to fix it because it's misleading. The lady said uh huh yeah, next. So rude and disrespectful. I will not order from here again. Ordered the Ma Po tofu. It had no taste and was undercooked. I had to drain the tofu and fry it with a bit of sesame oil and red chili flakes for it to be edible. Then it was good. Delivery times can be surprisingly short or surprisingly long, but food is always packaged nicely and delivered hot. I have never had anyone prepare and serve shrimp with the shell on in a breaded format, ever. The lady I called to voice my concern said that is the proper prep for salt and pepper shrimp. I have had shrimp served tail on, but to bread it with the whole shell on the full length of the shrimp? Beyond that, the pice is reasonable and delivery time was also reasonable. One of the few non-fast food restaurants that are open late every night. Very well integrated with the internet, they take web orders as well as via phone. I enjoy the general tso's chicken. The dark meat chicken pieces are a uniform size, heavily battered and fried to a nice crispness. The sauce is thick with hints of fruit and spice and a complexity characteristic of General Tso's sauce (which is essentially a balance between salt, sweet, vinegar, and chili). The portion is huge, and the price is slightly cheaper than many of the other restaurants in the area. For a healthier option, I like their 'create your own dish.' You pick a protein, vegetable and sauce, and its about a dollar cheaper than the General Tso's chicken. Chicken, broccoli with the brown sauce is a solid healthy option. The tofu dishes, which my brother has had, is a very nice vegetarian option. This is a great no-frills place for very cost-effective takeout, and they're always friendly to me. read more

Placed order on Christmas, 12/25/2020. Went to pickup order 30 minutes later. There was a dozen people waiting for their orders. Called after waiting 30 minutes and was told order would be ready in 10 minutes. Meanwhile, no orders are coming out to those waiting outside. Called again after another 30 minutes and was told my order had not been started yet. I requested for my order to be cancelled, the employee acknowledged and hung up on me.
