Fireside Kitchen is the casual, sit-down restaurant inside of Ameristar and it's on the second floor of the building. They have a fairly large menu full of traditional American foods like burgers, wings, meatloaf, sandwiches, mac 'n cheese, and breakfast staples. Breakfast, by the way, is served all day long while they are open. They also do some interesting shakes/malts like turtle (vanilla ice cream, caramel, hot fudge, and candied pecans) or cherry cheesecake if you're looking to get serious with your caloric intake. Nick and I ate here our first night in Black Hawk and we were in and out in no time, they definitely are quick to serve you. They were also more than accommodating for special requests. I wanted chicken tenders shaken in hot sauce like wings and even though it wasn't on the menu the server was more than happy to order it for me, and the kitchen was more than happy to make it. The space is easily big enough to accommodate large parties, too so if you're here with a group this might be a good option to look into. Just be aware that they close fairly early. On a Sunday night Nick and I went by around 9 and they had already closed up shop for the night, although the website does say they are open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. read more

Came here for the cheaper version of breakfast buffet. Definitely worth the 12.99 for all you can eat eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and fruit! Especially if you happen to be a tad hungover ;) I also got a Bloody Mary and it was delicious! My fiancé is picky about his coffee and he thought theirs was great. Not at all what I was expecting. I was there last night (Thanksgiving) and wanted a great Turkey dinner. I walked to every restaurant in Ameristar to check out what they offered. Prices were $25 for Fireside, $35 & a 29.95 buffet. I went for Fireside as I already could not believe the $$ for all of them. Fireside the meal was cool and the plate hot. The only thing that was so hot it burned my mouth was the green bean casserole. The restuarant had 6 tables with people at them in a large restaurant ... should have been my 1st clue. I waited 7 min to get water and another 10 to get my food (probably brought up from the buffet). I ate it because I was hungry but to mad to say anything. Awesome restaurant in a great casino. Service was amazing and knowledgable. It was our first time up to Black Hawk and we did some searching and walking around. A friend recommended this place, and it is one of the nicer restaurants and casinos. They had plenty of options, but this is where we decided to go. Bryan made sure everything was good, which it was. We will definitely go back and will probably try to spend a weekend there. We didn't try a steak or large entree as it was lunchtime, but the food was great. So they had an unlimites pasta,soup,salad for $14 on a saturday night, bit i never got a refill, they served 10 ligtle slices of sausage with my pesto, i wanted more meat i said, server told me you have to empty your plate to get another serving.. i lost my appetite, mediocre pasta dish and false advertising.. i'd rather get a hotdog somewhere else than come back here, fish n chips is 75% batter 25% fish for $18. Have eaten here previously and had several enjoyable meals... Had guests in town this wknd & went in for a late dinner. Wow, everything about the experience was bad. Went back the next morning and discussed with the manager because I did not believe what we experienced was a fair representation of the restaurant. She agreed, and asked if she could buy us dinner that night and we would give them a second chance. We did, they took great care of us; the experience, service, and food were all very good. We had a $20 food voucher so we thought we would give the Fireside Kitchen a try. We stood at the hostess stand for 5 minutes before anyone paid attention to us. After we got seated we ordered 1 order of the buffalo wings and 1 order of the mushroom flatbread. 30 minutes later our 2 simple appetizers arrived. Wings were lukewarm, flatbread was hot though. Both tasted ok but definitely nothing to brag about. Service was inattentive and slow. Never asked how our food was. Took another 15 minutes after we finished to get our check. We stopped in for brunch (~$10 a person). The space is really cute and we got in at 11:30am on a Saturday no problem. The only negative thing I have to say is that the hostess was fairly rude and giving me the stink eye (for a little context- I'm very sweet and have good southern manners in a restaurant so I in no way brought this on myself). I politely said after waiting for her to chat with a coworker "may we get a table for four?"; when led to the table my friend asked for a booth instead and the hostess informed her (while looking at me like I had betrayed her) that I asked for a "TABLE". She then shot me glances for the rest of the meal. However, the waiter was perfectly friendly and efficient. The food was speedy, my omelet was good and everyone had pretty large servings (two people splitting one breakfast no problem). Had a wonderful breakfast at Fireside this morning. I tried the farmers skillet. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, my poached eggs were wonderful and the avocado was a perfect touch. Surprisingly charming! Cute, warm, decor, solid burgers and a good waitstaff. Seated a big group of us there for a birthday and even brought us cake! We stopped in here this morning for a quick bite to eat before heading back to Denver. They've always got decent enough food and its not too expensive. I had the bacon cheese burger w fries and a chocolate shake. Delicious. The burger was actually really good, as were the fries. The chocolate milkshake was good just because it is a milk shake, but it was clearly thrown together and was pretty small. It was a 2/5 and that's pretty bad for a milkshake. My wife had some farmers veggie skillet of some sort. It looked good. Our water glasses were refilled a total of ZERO times. Not so good. We ate here for both breakfast and dinner. Both meals were excellent. The burger was simple but tasty. My wife got the Cuban and thoroughly enjoyed it. We both got sides of fruit which were fresh and tasty. For breakfast, we both ordered the yogurt and granola parfait and split the short stack. The short stack is HUGE! The yogurt was delicious and a good portion - not too big. Also, they are very focused on service. We had a slight service issue and they went way beyond in making it right. Such a disappointment. I was there yesterday for breakfast and the staff could care less. Absolutely no effort was made to welcome us, the food was sadly lacking - you could tell, the whole staff just didn't care from manager, wait staff to kitchen... My breakfast - (slow coming out of the kitchen) pancakes were like rubber. I don't know if they were made ahead and reheated or what. The bacon was just as bad, no crunch, just chewy like jerky. Both were just luke warm. So sad. I barely ate any and do you think the waitress would even ask how it was - nope. Didn't care and hadn't been back to the table to ask how everything was the whole time we sat there. I didn't want a comp for next time (never going back!) so I didn't say anything. And why should I? They didn't care so why should I? I only write this to keep others from going and having the same disappointing experience. At a casino in Black Hawk, near the parking garage elevator entrance. They were not busy, but yet we had to wait quite a while until someone finally notice us standing there. If we hadn't seen other customers inside, we would have guessed it was closed. Our server never mentioned there was also a small buffet corner and it wasn't listed on the menu either. Didn't even notice it, until another table near us was directed to it. No idea what was inside the heated serving containers. The menu was quite limited. Our ordered food took a while to get to us and was just very average. The prices were very reasonable, but maybe we should have gone downstairs to try one of the other dining locations, inside the casino. Not so sure I'd try this place again. read more

The hostess was so rude. We had 4 in our party, she didn't even look at us when she came back to the host stand. Looked down the whole time & said "how many" we answered 4 and she walked in the restaurant to grab menus & just started walking to the table. Didn't look at us to follow or give us any recognition. Once we got to the table, as she was walking away I think she told us our server was on the way. But then again, she wasn't facing us. I think our previous experience was a fluke of sorts, as our second try proved to be a completely different experience. Maybe an off day for the waitress we had or the chef... not sure... management responded and assured us it would be different, and it was. this is sad to have witness this, but this place closes at 10 p. i arrived at 925 pm, i (mexican male) was behind a white male to place an order to go, however i did not get to order. the hostess first said they were no longer accepting orders to go. then i asked if i could dine in after she had just sat a couple down, and she said no. she then said we are closing early. i told her, "don't you close at 10 pm.", she then said the kitchen was too backed up for me to order. i did tell her, "i dont mind waiting". she responded, "try another place". there was a black couple behind me that had the to go menu in there hands that did not get to order either. i just don't understand what harm it would have done to let us place a to go order. read more

It takes a lot for me to give 1 Star. We came here hungry and the menu looked great. I ordered a grown up grilled cheese and let's just say it was basically day old toast with like 1/2 piece cheese and a piece of basil. My husband had the ribs and they were crunchy and no sides! I ordered a sangria that tasted like hi-c. I sent it back and the server didn't even ask if I'd like something else. We should have walked out sooner and it ruined part of our vacation. After reading some of the reviews, I was a little hesitant to eat here, but wanted to have a meal at Ameristar since we were staying at the hotel. We had a friendly and attentive waiter. The food came out hot and the quality was surprisingly good! I order the chicken pot pie and the portion was filling and tasted great. Also tried the chicken, broccolini and mashed potatoes that were even better. Quality was great, food was hot, nice presentation. Overall, we were very satisfied and happy we decided to stop in. If you want to pay out the A$$ for an extremely subpar product...this is the place for you. During our stay we had the misfortune of eating two meals at the Fireside kitchen. At lunch I had the Asian salad with Salmon. The portion of lettuce was decent, the flavor was underwhelming and the 4oz of salmon was over cooked. With tip I paid $22 for Salmon salad and a water. The next morning our group dined for breakfast. Sigh. I ordered the chive biscuits and nonexistent sausage gravy with a side of bacon. The biscuit was excellent! However, the packaged gravy was extremely runny with no flavor or sausage! Whenever I ordered a side of bacon at $4 I expected thick cut. Guess again. We further brought attention to the manager on duty and she also showed no acknowledgment of this being an issue... mice in a restaurant is completely unacceptable and the fact that nobody in the restaurant cared to acknowledge this being an issue is absolutely perplexing. I dined here twice on our trip to Black Hawk, CO. The first time the rotisserie chicken was okay. The side of cole slaw and beans was tiny. $20 for that was not worth it. The second time I ordered the wings thinking it was a safe bet. They were burnt. I ate because I was starving. My kid got the grilled cheese and refused to eat it and that girl will eat anything w cheese. My husband ordered chicken fried chicken and what he got was a burnt piece of fried chicken on top of mashed potatoes and brown stiff gravy. It was gross and we were really sad because the dinner sucked and we still had to shell out a pretty good chunk of money. Stayed here for our anniversary. Were hoping to have a nice quaint breakfast this morning. The first downside was the food wait. It took 20 minutes for our food to come out. We ordered a starter, that didn't come out as a starter but with our meal. My scrambled eggs were COLD, almost seemed frozen in the middle. Hash browns were flattened and hard as a rock. Myself, husband, and 2 other family members dined at the Fireside Kitchen on a Monday evening Sept 14. The service was good, and we enjoyed our meal. When the bill came to the table, the total for my husband and I was $30.49 (for a hamburger and chicken salad.) We gave the waitress our credit card. When the slip to sign came back to the table, the total said $87.00+. Luckily, we noticed the error and questioned it. It was blamed on the "computer" and was supposedly corrected. Checking my bank account a few days later, the $30.49 plus the tip was charged to my account. However, an second charge of $20.25 was also noted on my bank account. We called the restaurant manager, Enis, and he said that he would take care of it. We have spoken with him twice, and even with another restaurant manager, who said we needed to talk with "accounting." We have been unable to reach that department. The issue remains unsolved. So just a word to the wise.....pay close attention to your charges. read more

Pleasantly surprised. The biscuits and gravy remind me of college breakfast at the Rotunda in WSU. These biscuits and gravy allowed me to gain my freshman 15. Very filling, with four biscuits in a huge plate of gravy. Decor is nice and cozy. read more
