Pleasantly surprised. The biscuits and gravy remind me of college breakfast at the Rotunda in WSU. These biscuits and gravy allowed me to gain my freshman 15. Very filling, with four biscuits in a huge plate of gravy. Decor is nice and cozy. read more

Slow, inattentive service from in what is "supposed to be" Black Hawk's premiere casino. This place offers basic, unappealing breakfast options akin to any Waffle House or Denny's except the price is 50% more. I get it...captive crowd will pay for what they can get, but I am surprised Ameristar management doesn't fix problems with both waitstaff and kitchen that are killing what could be a anchor restaurant in town. Ameristar is a very nice resort to stay at but this place drags the quality rating way down. read more

On our way from Denver to take "Peak to Peak Scenic Byway" to Estes Park, CO. Stopped to have lunch in Black Hawk, CO. Wow! .... what a gambling mecca located in this town and Central City, CO. This restaurant is located inside the Ameristar Casino. The Restaurant has very nice ambiance wood cherry-wood walls and molded ceilings. We enjoyed a very good Rueben sandwich. Could have ordered "one order" and shared. Very large servings. Took the left-overs with us and gave the food to some homeless men in Boulder, CO. They were very appreciative. read more

The decor and ambiance of this restaurant is very inviting. The food on the other hand is not worth the trip. I ordered the endless pasta and my salad while appealing to the eye the only thing worth while was the housemade croutons. Light and buttery they were the stand out star. On to the entree, my pasta was cook perfect but taste masked by the Costco rotisserie chicken. My husband ordered one of their signature burgers but was presented a frozen patty partially defrosted and called medium. The appetizer we ordered was the fried mozzarella and only 3 round dime size balls actually had cheese in them. This place needs improvement. read more

Great little restaurant in the Ameristar Casino in Black Hawk. We waited about 10 minutes and then had to wait an extra 10-15 minutes to order because lunch items aren't served until 11. The food was better than other little quick cafes in Black Hawk, but it's no 5-star. The waiter was very friendly although never refilled our water glasses which to me, is far from excellent. We'll probably be back, but know to expect a 2-3 star experience. read more

We have been here a couple times for breakfast and had good experiences both times. The waitstaff is always friendly and attentive and the food is always filling and delicious. We order the green chili skillets and they are fantastic. They come with a couple heated tortillas that you can dip in your grub. This is a great place to recover from a long night of drinking and gambling. read more

I just wanted to say that me jack Daniels steak was amazing before I start this review. Our night started off with stokes who was obviously too cool from the start to use his birth name "Taylor". Few key points: I ordered a Pinot noir he came back with a beer stating they only had cab, merlot, Chardonnay, & white zin. I took the Chardonnay but was surprised with my Merlot LOL. Kept quiet Bc the kid had no idea what was going on. He forgot my friends beer twice, my A1 sauce twice, and my friend to go box twice. This place obviously has a hiring/ training issue. The chilli was sent back because I was told it was gluten free but tasted like someone took a shit in the bowl. Went here to get a decent sit down meal to order at a decent price. Ordered a smoked apple wood beacon cheddar burger cooked medium. The beacon was not applewood smoked tasted like the nasty deep fried breakfast buffet beacon I endured at breakfast. The burger was well done and dry so I put my coleslaw on it to moisten it. No taste at all... but I was hungry enough that I didn't want to send it back. I won't go there again. read more

Very disappointing dinner last night. Ordered fish and chips...they were out. Ordered burgers...they only had mini-patties which had to be cooked well-done and topped with brown lettuce. Tried the "loaded tots"...they arrived cold with just a tiny drizzle of cheese (?) on top. Even for casino food, this was a mediocre dining experience. After a horrible stay at the Ameristar for many reasons this restaurant was the best experience here. The WAFFLES were the best we have had anywhere in a very long time. Players breakfast with the New York Strip was good. The steak however was great for the price I shared it with my husband and I could cut it with a butter knife so tender and juicy! read more

My husband and I had lunch here on a weekday. I asked our waitress if she recommended the fish and chips and she did, so that's what I ordered. It was seriously the worst fish I've ever had. It wasn't crisp on the outside and the inside was so undercooked the whole thing fell apart when I tried to pick it up. I asked our waitress if I could order something else so I exchanged it for a French dip... it wasn't much better and because the au jus was so incredibly salty, I ate about half of it. On a positive note, my husband's hamburger was okay and our waitress was very nice. Although we love staying at the Ameristar hotel (the suites are wonderful and very well priced if you go during the week), we won't be eating at the Fireside Kitchen again. read more

The ameristar is first class gambling! Definitely made a good choice staying her for my best friends bachelor party celebration. The most expensive in Blackhawk but well worth it. The fireside cafe inside was a little lackluster in regards to the wait staff but I'm taking the good with the bad lol read more

I always stay at Ameristar when I head to Blackhawk. I have always enjoyed the food and service at Fireside kitchen. I went for a girls weekend and after telling my girlfriend how great this place was , of course we had the worst experience. By the time we made it there for dinner it was 830 on a Sunday night. I was excited that there would be no wait. However, we waited several minutes just to be seated. The waitress brought our menus and after about 5 minutes we ordered our appetizer -the fajita egg rolls. About 15 minutes later another waitress tried serving spinach dip to the table behind us. They stated that it was not their appetizer so she brought it to our table to try to serve it to us. We also told her that that was not what we had ordered. About 30 seconds later our waitress then tried again to serve us the spinach dip. We had to tell her again that we had ordered the fajita egg rolls. As she had not checked on our table in quite some time , I asked her to bring a carafe of water so we could serve ourselves. My girlfriend ordered a glass of wine as well. 15 minutes later she brought out the correct appetizer which was two tiny egg rolls which was a little disappointing for the price we paid. We asked her for appetizer plates and she said she would bring them right out. After waiting several minutes we decided to eat the egg rolls before they got cold. (We never did get tgose plates) And...I had to get up and get my own carafe of water. And the wine still had not been served. After waiting about another 25 minutes we finally waved down a manager to see if he could at least bring the wine we had ordered over 30 minutes prior. We are pretty easy-going and very friendly so we tried to make light of the situation . He stated he would be right out with the wine, and yet it was probably another 10 minutes before he arrived with the wine. Our food finally arrived (we had been there almost two hours at this point) and with the horrible service that we had received thus far, it was hard to eat any of our meal. It took another 10 minutes and lots of waving just to get our bill. While the manager did give us a small credit on our bill we never did receive an apology for the horrible service. What I thought would be a quick and delicious meal turned into the worst two and a half hours of waiting of my life. I have honestly never had that bad of service in my life. The waitress could have taken a few seconds to ask us if we needed anything, or even refilled our waters , especially for the amount of time we spent there, and the manager was almost as dismissive. The only thing great about the meal was that I was in good company. I am sad to say that will probably be my last visit. read more

Service here was very poor. The waitress in our area, we saw her standing around, even sitting down at a table while the bus person was removing the dishes and cleaning the table. After 15 minutes of watching her sit and stand around doing nothing, the manager came walking by, and the manager finally took our drink order, and came back with the drinks, and then took our meal order. No apology, no discount, no caring that service was very lacking. Oh, and the wife had the grilled cheese, and the bread was burnt, and yet the cheese was cold and unmelted. Our dinner was not good. We only got sandwiches, but they both were dry. My onion rings were greasy and lukewarm. My bloody mary was very weak and not worth $7.00. My daughter and I ate here on her birthday 1/20/15. It was a wonderful experience. The Jack Daniel steaks were fabulous. Service was fantastic. Previously gave this 5 stars. New management has made cutbacks to quality. The chicken fried steak is not the quality it was, and not as tasty. The delicious thick doughy English Muffins have been replaced with low quality ones. The whole menu has changed with fewer choices and smaller portions. I ended up sending it back and to remedy the situation they offered to cook something else and I asked for toast as I lost my appetite... The toast was cold with about a stick of butter on it and was flimsy. My husbands breakfast was pretty bad too, eggs drenched in margarin (who uses margarin to make eggs?!) and bacon was raw. I typically don't write bad reviews in anything but this one needs to be written. The food was horrible and the service was....awkward... My boyfriend and I walked in to a less than enthusiastic hostess- she sat us at a table when we requested a booth. Me being the non confrontational type just sat down. My boyfriend was the one who spoke up and said "we requested a booth." So after looking around for a moment (at an almost empty restaurant) she said ok give me a moment. She came back cleaned the dirty booth next to us and sat us there. The table and seats were still soaking wet. Out of ALL the booths in the empty restaurant we HAD to sit at this one? So we sat at the WET booth. We ordered our food with the very awkward but trying-to-be-nice waitress. We ordered only water - which was the first thing that tasted a little "off". Our food came out about 15 minutes later and what was in front of me was pretty much a deli sandwich I could have bought at the gas station for an 8th of the price. I opened it- no avocado (like the menu said). I asked her for sliced avocado (like the menu said) she said guacamole or sliced... I said "sliced" (again). So I munched on my fries in the meantime while my boyfriend picked at his less than mediocre ribs. By the time he was done with his ribs my GUACAMOLE finally arrived. I told her can I get sliced avocado? (Again) she's said sure. About five minutes later I got my three slices of Avocado. I put it in my sandwich, took a bite and HATED it. The "chicken" tasted like cheap deli meat that was left out over night and re heated. So I ate the bread and just dipped it in the guacamole that I never asked for. My dinner for that night consisted of fries, sliced bread and guacamole. My stomach was turning the rest of the evening . We paid and left very quickly. Never again. read more

This is a truly terrible place to eat breakfast. It came highly recommended by staff and this website but please do not waste your time or money. The claim on the menu that they only use the finest ingredients is a scam. Tell me where these amazing ingredients come from and I might believe the kitchen was just having a bad day. My pancakes were so tough I had to saw through them with a knife. The maple syrup was definitely not real and the sausage looked as though it had sat in a heat pan overnight and then was microwaved. I requested that the sausage and coffee (terrible, terrible drink) be removed from our bill. My husband ate eggs, hashbrowns and bacon. Bacon looked greasy, hashbrowns soaked in oil and the eggs he ate but he can stomach anything. Our server was nice, but shortchanged us by 5 dollars when we paid the bill. We high tailed it down to Starbucks afterwards to enjoy a mediocre coffee and get the taste of that food out of our mouths. read more

If I could give this place a minus starred review,I would. The food was mediocre at best and the service was just about the worst I have had anywhere. A group of 6 of us went for lunch and we were there for over 2 hours. The menu is not that extensive at all,and the offerings are very basic, so it's difficult to understand why it would take so very long to make a cheeseburger. Our waitress was sweet, but her inexperience was evident from moment one. And while I feel badly giving such a poor review when someone is obviously that new on the job, the point is her training was horribly lacking and there was no one there really supervising. We probably should have gotten up and walked out when 20 or so minutes after ordering drinks (2 glasses of wine, 1 cup of coffee, 1 gin & tonic and 1 vodka & tonic) the waitress accompanied by another waitress came over to tell us that they could not accommodate the two alcoholic drinks (even though they had cocktails on their menu), but we were welcome to walk out of the restaurant and go to one of the bars in the casino and order drinks to bring back. Nothing on the menu to indicate that they only serve the very few listed cocktails. They had vodka, but not tonic water. Seriously?? Took probably another 10 minutes to then get the two glasses of wine. Our waitress was not very attentive at all, and apparently was under 21 so she could not even serve us the glasses of wine and had to rely on another server or whoever was available that was over 21 for that. We had to ask about the coffee more than once. When the food finally arrived, I asked for another glass of wine. Had to ask for that at least one more time too and unfortunately not surprisingly, that took forever to arrive. Everyone else opted to not order anything additional, as we knew it would just add at least another 30 minutes to the time already spent waiting for anything to arrive. The food was mediocre at best. It had obviously sat for awhile as nothing was really hot anymore, just as the wine was practically luke warm. Once the meals were finally served, never saw the waitress again until she brought the checks. We had asked if they could accommodate separate checks immediately upon being seated, and were told "no problem." She for the most part got the checks right, but gave them to the wrong parties. On mine, she had forgotten the wine, but placed it on the table anyway, saying she'd bring a corrected one. What was I supposed to do with the check that was wrong? Upon exiting the restaurant well over 2 hours later, the couple walking in front of us could be heard complaining about the same waitress and that it was the worst service they had ever had. I commented to them that we must have had the same waitress, and they both proceeded to vent as to how disappointed they were and that they would never eat here again. I opted to turn around and say something to the hostess only to find my husband was already in the process. Another waitress joined the hostess and they both apologized. We felt bad about complaining, as our waitress was obviously quite young as well as inexperienced. But......bottom line it is the responsibility of management to ensure that they are properly staffed with appropriately trained personnel. The other waitress who was hearing our complaints thanked us for letting them know, as it is important.....at which time she also volunteered that the GM was on vacation, but would want to know about this upon returning so that it could be addressed. Kind of confirmed our suspicion that there was really no one who was running the show......certainly not anyone who was qualified. But nothing here even remotely good enough to warrant a return visit. I would recommend looking around for something else....any halfway decent burger joint can do a better job than Fireside Kitchen did. read more
