I'm not a regular coffee drinker, but I can never resist their Cortado. It comes in rather decent sized tea cup to start your day off. There are other coffee options for a pretty decent price. I've been here for evening reading and morning time relaxation, both serves good times to do so. I've only come here once for green tea tapioca, but it was not the best. Comfortable tables and booths all around as well as a area of board games should you choose to play some. Only gripe about this place is its limited parking lot that is shared with other businesses. Best kept secret on the SW side just outside the 610 loop on Braeswood and Chimney Rock. I come here when I'm in town and by my parent's place because it's quiet and actually just a chill place if you want to read/study/chat. Place is kept up with and seems to always have people on their patio. It looks like a typical coffee shop but it's not trying to be anything. Just simple and not a Starbucks. So if you're in the area, stop by and have a drink. Their Americanos are sweet and have a mild followthrough. Curious to be around to have some of their food. I'll be back. read more

Came here to do some research and get out of the house. Ordered a chicken pesto panini with chips and a cappuccino. It was all pretty average. The chicken pesto panini is a good portion size and I was able to save the second half for later. The chips were basic Ruffle chips and I was shocked to be charged a decent amount extra for it. The cappuccino was your standard cappuccino. It's a nice quiet place to do some stuff on your computer. It doesn't get too crowded and there are plenty of tables around. read more

Back when I lived only 5mins away from this cozy little coffee shop, I swore it would become my new study/casual "catch-up-with-friends" spot. A year and a half later, I finally tried it out.... because we were moving away, had already cut off our internet, and I needed to mooch off free Wi-Fi somewhere. Oops. Sorry Fioza, a little too late, I guess... If you ARE in the area, however, Fioza is an amazing little gem in Meyerland. It may be the *only* coffee shop in Meyerland actually, but at least it rocks! Parking isn't a problem; there's plenty of booths and tables, outlets, free Wi-Fi (ask the cashier for the pw!), and -- here's the best part -- ACTUAL food. Aside from coffee, teas, milk-teas, and smoothies, Fioza also offers panini sandwiches, soups, pastries, desserts, and more. Think "Panera Bread," except smaller and more red décor than yellow. I hear it gets crowded during the weekends, but on a Wednesday evening, I had no trouble finding a nice tall bar table next to the window. After settling in, I opted for their Margehrita Panini w/ potato chips and a milk-tea. The panini was definitely better than I expected for coffee shop standards, but my milk-tea unfortunately bit the dust. It was watery and the tapioca balls were hard... I guess no one can do tapioca like Chinatown can. Oh, and the music sucked. They were playing 80's rock -- which isn't exactly classic 60's & 70's, but not yet quite alternative 90's. It was more like people wailing and sounding weird and angsty. BRING HEADPHONES. Ordered the cold Fioza Specialty mocha with almond and coconut syrup. Asked for half-sugar which was just right for me, since I don't like my drinks too sweet. 4/5 stars for the drink. So I really liked my drink, but I can also understand what some of the other yelpers remarked on in terms of the service. I ordered a panini to go and I was in a hurry. After waiting about 5-6 minutes, the barista told me that the person who makes the sandwiches is "missing...and probably taking a break...but he should be back in like 5 minutes." I wouldn't say that anyone was unpleasant, but this kind of service is ridiculously ridiculous. They did eventually give me a refund for the sandwich, but this also took time. And I also noticed the two baristas who worked in the front giggling on their phones as I was waiting. The issue I had with waiting is that it wasn't crowded and there were no other orders in at the time. I really would've liked to have given this place 4-5 stars, but until they practice a more rigorous standard of how the workers on the front line and back line conduct themselves, I'll stick to 3-stars. read more

Coffee plus tapioca? Genius! They make all drinks hot or cold. I usually get a hot specialty coffee or an iced coffee drink with tapioca. I highly recommend the El Delicioso or Nutella specialty drinks. Aside from their tasty specialty coffee and tapioca milktea, I really like Fioza's attractive yet well thought-out design. There's a couch area with ample natural light for reading, but when you walk further inside it becomes darker with mostly ambient lighting for laptop usage. It should also be noted that power outlets are conveniently available to every single table! Finally, the roomy bathrooms (yes I judge places by their bathrooms) are always perfectly clean. Not 5 stars because I am spoiled by cheap Chinatown tapioca milktea and dislike paying more than $3 for it. Also, they do accept credit cards, but there is a $4.00 minimum charge. read more

I met a friend here on a weekday morning and ended up staying long enough to eat lunch too. My first order was a soy latte and almond croissant. I guess I'm too accustomed to the sweetened vanilla soymilk that Starbucks uses because there was nothing sweet about this latte, but that is not their fault. For lunch I ordered a rueben-style panini and was surprised how expensive it was. Just the sandwich was around $10 and didn't include any chips or other side. It was good, but didn't quite justify the price. The atmosphere was nice and I enjoyed that my friend and I were able to sit at a table in the back of the cafe for hours and not feel pressured by the employees to leave. Most other people inside were alone on laptops or reading but I saw a stack of board games on a shelf, so maybe it is livelier at times. read more

It's always a sign of a great establishment when you almost don't want to review it; Fioza has been kind of my "secret" study spot that I go to when nowhere else will do. They have great coffee, good service, and just the right amount of background noise -- quiet, but not too quiet. It's tucked away in a small strip center that's easy to miss, and there aren't that many parking spaces, but it's adequate for the number of tables. My favorite thing about Fioza is that they have tapioca balls, which I pretty much add to everything and anything. They also have pastries, salads, and sandwiches, which is great when you're in hard core mode and you really don't want to leave. Fell in LOVE with Fioza! The set up of the cafe is cozy and the best place to be whenever it's raining! It's my go to spot to study and I am always pleased. You can tell that the coffee is high quality because you get that strong coffee taste that Starbucks takes away by adding more sugar than coffee. My favorite thing to order is the Iced Nonfat Vanilla Latte. It always hits the spot! You can also add Tapioca to any iced drink which is the best part. Unpretentious local coffee shop with lots of outlets, tables, and interesting art. I actually really like this place. There's a good selection of drinks for non coffee drinkers like me. I got the Thai tea which was good but not as sweet as I would've liked. There are outlets all over, and people are always studying. The barista asked if I wanted a pastry because it was only a dollar (maybe because it was the afternoon?), and I was all about that. Got a monkey bread that was pretty sizable. It's in a small lot with a good amount of parking but can still get full pretty fast. There's also art on the walls from local artists that you can buy and a board full of flyers from local small businesses. I just really like that it's low key and homey and local but still comfortable enough to study for an entire afternoon without worrying about your electronics dying on you. Admittedly, I've seen this place many times on yelp but always ended up visiting the coffee shops I already knew were decent. Well, I missed out on some quality study time. Fioza isn't located by anything else I'd visit. It's not in the medical center, it's not by the galleria, it's not even in montrose or midtown or Eado. It's in this small little shopping center that emerged after driving through residential areas. So, it looks quite humble from the outside, which was pleasant. When you enter into this place, it feels like a regular coffee shop probably owned by a nice couple who enjoy giving people delicious beverages and some quiet. I say this because when I entered it was incredibly silent. So silent I felt like I should whisper my order to the person at the front. I knew this was going to be a great place to study. A couple of things I look for in a study place: 1. peace and quiet 2. an abundance of outlets 3. decent, free wifi 4. food options 5. table space This place had all of them. I ordered a thai tea (house made) with a turkey and pesto panini. There were outlets everywhere and all types of seating. Though the place was generally very quiet, occasionally a group of people would come in for a meeting or such. There's a small outdoor seating options also, and it seemed like many of the people who came to socialize ended up sitting there. Parking is a little small, but I believe you can park on the side of a neighboring street if need be. Definitely will come back to this area. I've been to Fioza a handful of times since 2012, but hadn't stepped inside for a few years until today. I ordered a chicken panini and cortado to go around 3:55 p.m. and thought it'd be ready to go within 10 minutes or so. Twenty minutes pass by and I still don't have a cortado (at least five people have ordered and left by now) or panini. Got my cortado in a latte-sized cup (cortados are two shots of espresso and little bit of steamed milk) and it tasted like a watered down latte. No complaints about the panini, but if Fioza is going to be known as one of the best coffee shops in Houston, then they should probably know the difference between their espresso drinks and not wait 20 minutes to make one. read more

Context is everything. If you wanted a hip, bohemian coffee shop, the heart of Meyerland is probably not the place to look. That is not meant to be a knock on this place. It looks like it was "designed" to be the lobby of a giant corporate apartment complex rather than anything arty. Admittedly, I am not entirely qualified to comment because I don't drink coffee. Why then am I writing about a coffee shop and, moreover, giving it four stars? Well, for one I go there for pies/cheesecakes which have always been excellent and is basically the only option in my part of town during after dinner hours. But, equally important is what this place represents to "the kids" in my 'burb. They need this, a place that isn't Starbucks to kill time playing board games and smoking in the parking lot. I imagine it being the "third place" to some 15-year-old kid in meyerland who just needs to get away from his parents but can't drive to town. If seeing kids having a good time doing nothing with their saturday night makes you nostalgic, you will like this place; other the hand, if you have already reached the "damn kids get off my yard" phase of life, advised to come here any time other than a friday or saturday night. read more

So as a result of an extreme lack of productivity in the home environment, I have decided to venture out of my shell and into the world. I'm an avid coffee drinker but coffee shop novice. Basically, give me something black and bold, and I'm a satisfied customer. No, you may not insert your Magic Mike or Michael Scott joke here. Due to my unfamiliarity with the Houston coffee scene, I turned to the Houston Duke of coffee shop studying, Mr. David N. He pointed me to Fioza in the wonderfully bizarre world that is Bellaire. People in the Meyerland / Braeswood area tend to stick fiercely by their local joints, which is quite possibly what has made Fioza a success. The shop is small, so get there early if you want to snag an inside spot. Outlets are plentiful, which is good because my Gateway PC battery has gone to, well, 'ell in an 'andbasket. As David N. mentions, the place is pretty much hipster free, which is great if you don't want to see skinny jeans snogging on the way too grungy couch or loud-mouthed beer drinkers ruining a perfectly good study buzz. There's food available, and the breakfast panini was solid. Somehow, I completely missed the coffee rubbed reuben option until after eating, which sent me into endless despair. To make up for my error, I immediately Jewish Deli'ed it up at the nearby New York Coffee Shop. But next time, Fioza, next time. The two debbie downers here: just one refill of coffee (to keep up with rising bean costs, natch), and closes at 9. Also, no beer for the hipsters. OH, THE HUMANITY! read more

If I was a student still this would totally be my new spot to go to. If you're sick of the nasty Starbucks coffee and the other chains, Fioza will save you. They have a wide array of drinks/food - soups, paninis, pastries, tapioca, and your typical coffee selection. The environment is very cozy, good place to study or have a nice chat, music isn't loud, and the service is great. They even make coffee art in your lattes/mochas with the milk! I tried the Sugar Mama (chocolate and caramel mocha) and the Almond Shortbread Latte, both were absolutely delicious! If you are not wanting something too sweet, stick with the lattes rather than mochas. Parking may be a little hard though, but street parking is available or the Walgreens next door, if you're sneaky about it. read more

Jazz, boba, and top-notch Espresso ...in Meyerland?! I grew up blocks from here, sipping my first "espresso" drink (a Frap) at the Starbucks in the Plaza. Three years ago, I would have never imagined that a solid indie cafe would sprout up blocks from my parents' house - and in such a desolate retail area! Braeswood at Chimney Rock has always been a retail dead zone in my book - I've seen several stores around here open their doors only to close them months later. I was thrilled, to say the least, when Fioza opened its doors in 2007, but I was also concerned for their owner. Would Meyerland, with its older demographic, support this great little indie cafe? Well, here we are two years later and I'm thrilled to say that the neighborhood has accepted Fioza with open arms. As far as drink quality, it should be known that I'm an espresso snob. My favorite spot in the city for this brown Italian nectar is currently Catalina, but Fioza ranks #2 on my list. They don't just have top-notch equipment (La Marz machine, Mazzer grinder), but their baristas know how to use it! They pull a solid espresso which I'd rate 6/10 (S*bucks is 2/10 on my scale, Catalina 7/10, Blue Bottle in SF 9/10). My only complaint is that they don't roast their own beans or craft their own blends, so I feel that they aren't quite as metaphysically "one with their coffee", but the beans are fresh-roasted at Fontana (Te House of Tea). Fioza has also made a great effort to contribute to Houston's barista scene by hosting tastings and Latte Art competitions. Their decor is a bit too polished for my tastes... I tend to like more of a warehousey, urban feel - but that's just my preference. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they serve smoothies & boba (tapioca) drinks as well. My favorite is a concoction recommended by one of their baristas: get their Blueberry smoothie and add a pump of Lime, with boba. They have delicious Paninis as well, and tasty salad (Berry Balsamic dressing wins ALL battles). Don't miss their cake selection! Their cakes come from the same bakery that Empire Cafe uses. They're all incredible, my personal favorites are the Carrot, Coconut, and Hummingbird cakes. Over the past few years, Fioza has grown into a popular neighborhood hangout, spanning generations. Check out their calendar before visiting at night; they have really fun, laid-back concerts but the place can get a bit crowded. For the true Fioza experience, dust off that instrument you haven't played in years and swing by for their open mic night! I'm thrilled that this little cafe has brought a stronger sense of community to the Meyerland area - I'm convinced that every neighborhood needs a Fioza. read more

I'll admit I had to think a minute before rating to determine whether my degree of likeness was purely based on the fact that this is one of the only decent shops of any kind near my home. I live in Westbury and dying....PLEADING for anything worth swooning over to pop up this way. Wishful thinking I'm sure! Nevertheless, I've determined that this little joint has merit in its own right, and that I would still grace it with my presence were it located elsewhere within the city:-) My hats off to the owner, who, over the past few years has obtained respect and a decent following from the locals in the area. You will find all kinds of folk here, which I like....some of the stereotypical, one-dimensional crowds in other shops around town can be rather annoying, but that's just me! Also, the kids behind the counter are all friendly...none of that "I'm too cool for school BS". They have WIFI, occasional live music sets, better then average coffee, darn good tapioca/smoothies, decent, eclectic nibbles and fair prices. The space is quite small as are the tables, but I think that goes without saying for most shops around town. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, minimum credit card purchase is $4. I would not say it's worth a trip across town for (keeping in mind I can personally think of VERY few places that are worth making a trek across town), but I would totally, 100% consider it over Starbucks in Meyerland Plaza, definitely if you live in the neighborhood or are visiting friends and even for a casual business meeting. I see small groups meeting in here all the time. One of the highlights that cannot go unmentioned is cleanliness!! The owner even has a small sign behind the counter as a reminder to his crew that reads "think clean, be clean" or something like that? I have hard time expressing my impression from this coffee shop. It has a nice atmosphere, free wi-fi, many tables have power outlets nearby. The coffee is good. Also, I haven't found any comparable coffee shop in the vicinity (or rather any coffee shop in the close vicinity, period.) But with all of that, there is some strangeness about this place. Every so often, something happens that doesn't let me feel completely at ease here. Once, I spotted a metallic piece of an earring on top of a danish. (Yes, I know they get their pastries from some shop, but how often do you experience that?) On another occasion, when I was ordering a sandwich (for the first time), she lady behind the counter asked me what type of salad I wanted with it (this or that). I answered. When I paid, I noticed that the receipt had a separate line for the salad add-on. I was not asked IF I wanted to add a salad. When I complained, they did refund me that charge, but I don't appreciate that type of sneaky up-sell. Their boba (tapioca) tea is OK, but not great. I've had it in a less-than prime state. The problem with boba is that once cooked, it has very limited lifetime (3-4 hours). So, depending on where you are in the cycle, the state of it can vary. It looks like unlike the "dedicated" boba-tea places, this shop has a low turn-around of their boba, so they don't cook it as frequently as some other places might do. It looks like earlier in the morning (10-11am), it's fine here. The thai tea here has different "defaults": when you order it, you are asked if you wanted to have cream in it. Usually, thai tea comes with (some type of) milk or cream by default. There are variations, such as "Dark Thai iced tea". So, that question can be confusing. If you answer "no" to the cream, then, it looks like you'll get the dark thai tea. Also, the sweetness level here is relatively low. At many other places, I ask for half-sugar in my thai tea. Here, "regular" level of sugar gives comparable to that sweetness. read more

Fioza is a cute, non-pretentious place to study! The tables are pretty small so I wouldn't recommend coming here with a big group of people to study, but one or two people can fit at each table. There's free wifi and it's usually not too crowded, which is rare in coffee shops nowadays. I came here once before and one of my friends got a milk tea, which was watery and not very good. I don't know if it was just that one time, though. This time, I got a chai latte and I liked it! A bit too sweet after a while, but it was creamy and not too spicy. They're pretty generous with the size of the drinks. I haven't tried the pastries/food here, but after 4pm, the small pastries are 50 cents and the large pastries are $1! I will definitely take advantage of that deal the next time I come. read more

I felt kind of stupid (I'm used to the non-intimacy from Starbucks I suppose) standing there like a moron though waiting for my drink. Of course they'd bring it out to you! I came here to study on a Sunday afternoon - it was fairly crowded. There was no seating available indoors but there was an outdoor area as well so I sat out there without issue. I will say that if you're coming here to do work, it pretty loud. Also, the tables are all pretty close to one another - makes it difficult not to listen to someone else's conversation. Don't make the same mistake I did and forget your headphones. Staff was super nice.I had an iced mint green tea that was quite refreshing. read more
