The food was beautifully presented and the wine pairing was superb. Definitely recommend having them pair your wines. The grilled shrimp was a great start. The sparkling rose made the shrimp taste even better. The goat cheese ravioli was probably my favorite savory dish of the evening. The sweet sage-maple syrup-tomato sauce was fantastic. The Sancerre was pleasant with it, although I thought the ravioli itself was more impressive than the pairing. I had to order bread so the sauce wouldnt go to waste. I ordered the lamb medium rare, but it arrived closer to medium, and initially it was somewhat underseasoned. After adding salt and pepper and getting some of the thyme from the plate into the bite, the lamb became significantly better and worked better with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The creamed spinach underneath was delicious on its own, but I didn't enjoy it with the wine. Interestingly, the absolute highlight of that wine pairing was the braised garlic. The sweet, mellow garlic and Châteauneuf-du-Pape were wonderful together. Dessert was the highlight of the entire pairing. The lavender ice cream was outstanding, the Chantilly surrounding it was light and delicious, and the strawberry sauce wasn't overly sweet. The Sauternes was excellent with the dessert, particularly with the fresh strawberry. This was the pairing where the food and wine truly made each other better. Even though I was one of the last diners of the evening, I never felt rushed. My server was very attentive and social which I love. It was very romantic and yet comfortable enough that dining alone wasnt awkward. I'd happily return.

We started with a black manhattan, rich and a little bitter from the amaro. The first course was a bánh mì, and it was exceptional. The pickled onion, carrot and herbs were the perfect bright counter to the rich, fatty filling, and the jalapeño gave it real heat, which I loved. My only complaint is that I wished it was a menu item so I could come back and order a full sandwitch! Next was a mapo scallop with speck. It had a dark, glossy sear with a little Sichuan-style heat, plus crispy speck and crushed nuts on top. Instead of wine, they paired it with a cocktail of Four Roses, Fuji apple, mint and honey under a pink foam. It sounded sweet but wasn't, and the apple played really well off the pork. The sourdough-crusted halibut had a crackly crust over artichokes in a red broth with fried sage. It was paired with a 2019 Empire Estate dry Riesling from the Finger Lakes, and that wine was the surprise of the night. We're not Riesling drinkers at all, but this one had a smoky, almost burnt-cedar quality that I've never tasted in a white before. We took a bottle home. The braised short rib raviolo was one big round of pasta covered in parmesan, garlic chips and bacon. It came with Our Lady of Guadalupe's 2023 Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills, a big, ripe Pinot that had no trouble standing up to the short rib. The Pennsylvania duck breast was pink edge to edge with well-rendered fat, served with squash purée, mushrooms and a nest of shoestring potatoes. The pour was a 2018 Cerro Añón Gran Reserva Rioja, which was the best food-and-wine match of the night. Dessert was a pumpkin crème brûlée in bar form, with chocolate leaf tuiles, cream and a granola crumble, served with Blandy's 5-year Malmsey Madeira. Very fall, very good. Every pairing was on point, and a few of them pushed us toward wines we'd never have picked ourselves. That's exactly what you want from a counter like this. Watching the kitchen work from a couple feet away is half the fun. If you live in Loudoun and keep driving into DC for a tasting menu, try this first!

The chef was nice enough to let us order the octopus from the tasting menu (it was the only reason we came here, didn't realize it was part of the tasting). I almost did order the 5 course tasting menu, because it looked really good- but I'm so thankful I didn't. The table behind us was seated before us and by the time we left he was only on his third course. I'm also always cold but it was really warm in the restaurant. Not sure if their ac was broken or if it couldn't keep up with the weather. Not knocking the restaurant for this, things happen. But they probably could've used another few fans. We had a reservation on a Thursday at 5:30 and were seated promptly. Our waitress, Ellen E, was pleasant and attentive. First we asked about happy hour (which goes until 6) and were told this is only applicable at the bar. OK, I guess, but not very friendly especially to those of us who are height challenged and can't do the high bar stools - and who also might want to enjoy a meal. I had an LPH burger and subbed sweet potato fries for regular fries. I was surprised to see a $2 upcharge on the bill since on the menu (which I just checked again online) these 2 items (regular and sweet potato fries) are exactly the same price. I mentioned this to the gentleman who took our checks (another server) and he said he was told this was how to charge it. My friend also had an LPH burger and asked for yellow mustard instead of the dijonnaise that was included. She was charged $0.25 for this "addition." Again, we were told this was how they were directed to write the tickets. I don't think I've ever written primarily about pricing policies. But honestly the $2 and the $0.25 - combined with the happy hour only being at the bar - seemed very nickel and dime. Despite the food being ok, I don't think I'll return as these policies left a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended).

First time, I got muscles and they didn't taste fresh; I did not finish. His dish definitely looked amazing served in a large bowl with a lot of shrimp and sausage. Mine was served over a vegetable bed of rice. The small amounts of goat cheese were a nice touch as I don't enjoy large amounts as it is so rich. The vinaigrette was really a great flavor with the fish - very different! Thanks to the staff that allowed us to sit there for well over two hours so awesome to not be rushed, pestered or treated like we were an inconvenience. Looking forward to my next trip maybe I score the Mahi Mahi!
