I love the ice cream at Filo and have wanted to try their knafeh since the first time we visited. After lunch today we walked over and got one to share. We had never had knafeh before, and weren't sure exactly what to expect since it's a cheesy dessert. We were VERY impressed and will come back for it again! They recommended the strawberry cheesecake ice cream and the pistachio/almond cheesecake ice cream and let me do a split scoop because I couldn't decide between the two since they were so delish! Having lived in the Middle East for over five years, I sometimes really miss authentic flavors--and I'm so grateful to have found this place. The shop itself is small, but there's a second-floor seating area that offers a bit more space. I usually come for their homemade ice cream or their Knafooza--a crispy kunefe topped with your choice of ice cream. Went on a random Tuesday night at 8 PM and there was minimal wait/lines. The shop attendant was kind enough to let us sample quite a few flavors. Ended up going with baklava and Biscoff ice cream. We happened to be in the area and stopped by here for dessert. The interior here is quite nice and feels pretty new here. I wasn't too familiar with turkish style ice cream, but it seems like the most popular ice cream to get here is the Lemon Mint. I tried it and it was acutally reallyyyy sweet. I didn't really taste any mint tbh. I remembered trying the cacao one and it was really bitter haha. I ended up getting the Pistachio one bc it was a safe bet haha. I did enjoy how creamy and soft the ice cream was, but I wish the pistachio flavor could have been more pronounced. I feel like the taste was very lackluster, very subtle. I did enjoy the bits of pistachio in it, but it didn't really taste like much to me tbh. I enjoyed the consistency of it tho! My sister liked everything enough, but we both agreed it was not the best we have ever had. The baklava seemed stale and the ice cream was nothing special like advertised. There was only one person working behind the counter, so I'm glad there wasn't a line when I came in. For the prices, I must say, that I would only come back if it's a special occasion. As of right now, I don't see a reason to spend nearly $10 on their drinks. Filo isn't in a pat of town I venture in too much, but I'm glad my friends pointed me here. Despite not being a big fan of ice cream, I always welcome new tastes and experiences, and that included Filo. Amongst a small sampling of flavors, I settled with my safest choice which was pistachio - without trying it. The pistachio did not disappoint! It was the perfect balance of smooth, creamy, and nutty. What was phenomenal was seeing gas come out of the ice cream, almost as if the ice cream trapped a small amount of liquid nitrogen. To enjoy the scoop(s) of ice cream, there are a set of tables on the balcony, as the line below can sometimes be out the door and chaotic.
