I love the ice cream at Filo and have wanted to try their knafeh since the first time we visited. After lunch today we walked over and got one to share. We had never had knafeh before, and weren't sure exactly what to expect since it's a cheesy dessert. We were VERY impressed and will come back for it again! It's a crispy, flakey dough, with a mild, somewhat salty, stringy cheese inside, covered with simple syrup and pistachios. LOVED IT. Since we were pretty full from lunch, we only ate half and took the rest home. The guy who helped us said to reheat it in the oven for a few minutes. I was actually blown away by the dessert here. As soon as you walk in and see the display case you can see the thought and intention that was put in to showcase their desserts and the delicacy of it. I ordered a boozlava and it was the perfect size for sharing between two people. To me it was a twist on a traditional baklava. The top was a thin crisp layer of filo pastry topped with pistachios. The ice cream flavors are unique and some flavors are subtle (like the Lulu Lavendar or Lotus Biscoff) and others are more bold (the Istanbul Coffee. They weren't too sweet and also very rich in texture and taste. The is bright and colorful inside and there is a small upstairs loft area that has great seating. It faces the street toward Chapman, so there is street parking and a little walk from some public lots but there is payment now for parking. read more

We happened to be in the area and stopped by here for dessert. The interior here is quite nice and feels pretty new here. I wasn't too familiar with turkish style ice cream, but it seems like the most popular ice cream to get here is the Lemon Mint. I tried it and it was acutally reallyyyy sweet. I didn't really taste any mint tbh. I remembered trying the cacao one and it was really bitter haha. I ended up getting the Pistachio one bc it was a safe bet haha. I did enjoy how creamy and soft the ice cream was, but I wish the pistachio flavor could have been more pronounced. I feel like the taste was very lackluster, very subtle. I did enjoy the bits of pistachio in it, but it didn't really taste like much to me tbh. I enjoyed the consistency of it tho! Bf's sister got the jujuberry since she is lacstose, and she said it was refreshing. She said it tasted like blueberries since we weren't quite sure what jujuberry was haha. Despite not being a big fan of ice cream, I always welcome new tastes and experiences, and that included Filo. Amongst a small sampling of flavors, I settled with my safest choice which was pistachio - without trying it. The pistachio did not disappoint! It was the perfect balance of smooth, creamy, and nutty. What was phenomenal was seeing gas come out of the ice cream, almost as if the ice cream trapped a small amount of liquid nitrogen. I came here after a very mediocre dinner, desperate for a good finish. I had never heard of this spot before, but a friend recommended it and it was close by. The employees were patient with us as we decided our flavors, and accommodating when I asked for extra forks. The knafooza was mind-blowing. Honestly one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. The texture of the crumbled knafeh was incredible. I almost wish they had made it wider and flatter so there was more crunchy surface area, but that's just my personal preference. It was delicate (in taste and texture) and not too sweet, with simple syrup on the table if you wanted more. We didn't add any to ours, it was perfection as is.
