Came here for the first time with friends on our lunch break. We really enjoyed the food. We ordered the Koshary, Lamb Kabsa, Stuffed Pigeon with Rice, and the Kunafa for dessert. We sought out the Koshary because it is the national dish of Egypt. It was really delicious especially with their garlic and hot sauce added to it. The Lamb Kabsa was really good as well. The flavors were great and I would definitely order it again if I was craving lamb. The Stuffed Pigeon sounded really unique and I'm glad that we ordered it. It was our first time trying pigeon and we all enjoyed it. The meat is pretty tender and the skin was crispy. Definitely a must try if you're at the restaurant. We shared the Kunafa, which we also really enjoyed. The center of the dessert is filled with a sweet custard. You have the option of adding Nutella on the top of the dessert which we didn't do. My main complaint is with the service because our server was constantly away and on two occasions, I had to search for him to place our order and to follow up on payment. The restaurant wasn't very busy as we were one of three tables that were occupied. Our lunch duration was easily extended 30-minutes due to the lack of service. We dined outside. There was a tv playing music. The noise level wasn't too loud as the restaurant wasn't that busy at the time. I will definitely come back for the food, but it would have to be on a day where my schedule can absorb long lunch. For context, I come from Egyptian heritage. I'm first-generation American, and both of my parents grew up in Cairo. The dishes I ordered -- Hawashy as an appetizer and Makaroni Bechamel (Bashmil) casserole -- are foods I grew up with. The last time I had this exact meal cooked for me by my mother was several years ago, so placing this order felt like a gamble, especially with the restaurant being all the way in Anaheim while I live in Irvine. That gamble paid off immediately. From the very first bite, the food tasted unmistakably authentic. The hawashy was deeply seasoned, rich, and comforting -- exactly how it's supposed to be, not watered down or adjusted for convenience. The makaroni bechamel was the real emotional gut punch in the best way possible. Creamy, savory, perfectly spiced, and layered the way it's done back home. It tasted like something made with care, patience, and respect for the dish. I'm not exaggerating when I say this meal hit me hard. After one bite, I literally called the restaurant just to thank them. I asked to speak to the manager and told him what this meal meant to me -- how it tasted like something my own mother would make, how it brought back memories I didn't realize I'd been missing. I like that they are open late an holidays, since it is a nice spot to go out with family and friends when visiting. The food is decent. I usually order falafel, grape leaves, French fries, and hookah. My husband, who is Egyptian, tends to get koshari or meat kafta. The waiters are generally nice. The only thing is that the service can be slow at times. On several visits we have had to follow up on our order or flag down a waiter for help. We came here to try the Egyptian food as we are studying various countries and Cultures and had just studied up on Egypt. We had the Egyptian Falafels with Sesame (ta'meya - fava beans) - YUM! Koshary (lentils, rice, pasta, tomato sauce, fried onion, garbanzo beans) - didnt love it, though I hear it's great confirt food for some. Fattah with Lamb (lamb shanks served with pita bread & rice topped with tomato sauce) - YUM! The waiter wanted to ensure we had a good Egptian dessert and gave us a Kunafa on the house (shredded pastry stuffed with cream & cooked in syrup) - way better than the Lebanese version we had tried w cheese. We also ordered the Oum Ali with Mixed Nuts (creamy, flaky pastry with milk baked & topped with nuts) and really enjoyed that. THAT tasted like comfort food to me - warm and perfect for a cold day. He was very friendly and accommodating. He checked on our group many times to see if we wanted anything. I have had this place on my list for some time. I can't get makarona bechamel locally, nor kunafa so this place seemed worth the drive. And it really is for these two item! I've eaten a lot of different homemade makarona bechamel recipes and this is in the top 3. The kunafa is so dang good when freshly baked. Found this place last year when I wanted to smoke some shisha; it never tastes burnt and lasts for a good few hours. Coals are replaced consistently, but sometimes you need to ask them to replace them because it gets pretty busy here. I love that it's a relaxing restaurant where family and friends come to hang out. I've had better koshari but this one is quite good. Extremely filling and flavorful. It's just a great comfort food. As someone who doesn't like onion, I'd probably request that not be included next time. Also, I don't like falafel very much. However, I love that sauce that it comes with! Having recently visited Egypt, I definitely think the food here is quite authentic and tastes great. The restaurant is mostly a large outdoor patio that comes to life with lively Arabic music, quaint string lights, and aromatic food and hookah. We had a party of 7 and the patio was large enough to accommodate us and many other patrons. We ordered the Cairo Mezza Platter to share and start off with, and everything included in that tasted great. For my entrée I got the Fattah with Lamb. This came with a giant lamb shank and enough rice for 5 people. The lamb was perfectly cooked and very tender, and the rice was topped with a tangy tomato sauce. We finished things off with the "Egyptian Croissant" (fatir), which we paired with honey. It was excellent. I highly recommend this spot for both authentic Egyptian food & vibes. read more

A friend recommended this place and I ordered the Koshari and Mombar and the portions are HUGE, the koshari is this lentil spaghetti's tomato dish and it's vegetarian and healthy and delicious, that thing alone can feed a family of 4. Pigeon Stuffed with Rice/Grits and served with Molokhia: there isn't much meat on a pigeon, I don't know why we expected there to be more. This was a very smoky tasting dish, it did take a long time to cook, but it was extremely interesting. It wasn't mouthwatering, to be fair but the stuffing was interesting in both taste and texture, I would recommend ordering it just to try something new. The Molokhia was slimy in texture (slimy in a good way!) and had just a hint of tobacco in the subtle way like a complex wine. Overall I would give it 4/5 Khosary: now THIS, this is what I came for. It perhaps sounds odd on paper (rice, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, tomato sauce, fried onions) but in the bowl it is insanely tasty. Although I last had authentic Egyptian Koshary over a decade ago, this was equally as tasty and brought back the flood of memories. I have tried to recreate the dish at home and cannot- it's that magical sauce!!! The tomato and the garlic sauce! I will be coming back for this carbalicious delight again 5/5 Lentil soup: I liked but didn't love the lentil soup. It wasn't whipped smooth which is my preferred texture, but I did note that they were two methods of making it, the smooth version and the more heterogeneous version. Cairo's version has bits of lentils in it and does taste a bit mealy rather than smooth and silky. It was served with a generous slice of lime, and I definitely ate the whole thing. 5/5 7alabesa (Tomatoy beverage): this was like the flavor of a slightly watered down bloody Mary made slightly spicy, and then the added bonus of a half a glass of garbanzo beans on the bottom. Of course, I loved it. I don't mean to scare anyone away with that comparison, it came out warm and was one of my favorite things that I ordered. 5/5 Sahlab (Milk beverage): this one tasted like condensed milk that was not sweet. The crushed nuts on the top gave it an extra textural component that I did enjoy. However, with so many warm things that I had ordered and so many of them in liquid form... I couldn't actually finish this one. Luckily I had ordered it just to split with my friend. 4/5 You can sit either inside or outside at this restaurant, at the current time it is opening at noon, but it does seem like a place that gets busier later. We arrived at about 12:45 and we were the first clients to arrive for the day, later joined at 1:45 by another family and when we left at 2:30 there were four other tables seated. The patio looks like it would be adorable at night with strings of lights across the top of the deck and the fenced in portion comprised of bamboo. During the day it is still cute, and they have large fans for daytime and heating lights for night time. Everyone in the restaurant besides ourselves was clearly Egyptian, and I could feel the soul of Cairo coming through the food that was served to us. You can tell that they are running a family business and that they take a lot of pride in their product.
