This is the best place for Moroccan food. It so good we drive up from San Diego. We used to go to Casablanca in Newport Beach and they moved to this new location. More space and better parking here. The chicken bastilla is so yummy and what keeps me coming back. Honey lamb is so tender and falling off the bone. Mint tea and baklava and the perfect end to the evening. I needed to add the Packing House is a loud, fun place with lots of eating establishments. Once you walk in to Marrakesh, it's like you are transported to another world. read more

Had this place at 3 stars but after the manager reached out, I'd like to clarify that we did not finish our couscous. We left majority of it alongside the sausage. We were not asked to wait to be seated we waited at the front for a hostess and after a bit of a wait I walked by the cracked door to see if anyone was working and that's when they saw and sat us right away. I had this place at 3 stars because the honey lamb dish was decent but after my review it just seems the manager doesn't want to improve their service and instead argue with the customer. And to be clear my boyfriend never laid down in your booth. Yes he forgot his credit card inside, and I appreciate the staff bringing his credit card out but I do not appreciate the comment about taking his credit card to Las Vegas. Also I thought it was weird when I asked him what he recommended off the menu, he said he didn't want anything on the menu and would like a steak instead. Marrakesh was such a unique dining experience. It was pretty quiet for a Friday night, so I was a little hesitant. When you go from the hustle and bustle of the Anaheim Packing District to inside the restaurant, you are instantly transported somewhere new. It was great ambiance for a date night. If you are coming here with a time constraint on your evening, this place is not for you. If you are coming here to enjoy a long meal with friends or family, this place is probably for you. Everything is made fresh to order, so food takes awhile to get. If you want to order, or want the check, let them know (check took awhile to get). They were very up front about this. It did take about an hour for us to order our main meal. Again, I didn't mind because they let us know up front (if not I probably would've been a little annoyed). The food was good. I had a veggie couscous dish. It's fairly expensive, but a LOT of food. I had plenty to take home. The hummus appetizer and the veggie roll appetizer was also delicious. read more

This place is an absolute hidden gem! Excellent service, incredible food, wonderful ambience! When we arrived, it took us a minute to find the place. It's in the back of the packing district with a very discreet entrance. Once we walked in it was like we walked into a new world. All the chaos and noise from the packing district was gone and we found ourselves in a dimly lit, beautifully appointed "grotto" with traditional Moroccan music and decor drawing us in. Our server was very funny and very informative. He was clear about their process -- everything was made fresh to order and brought out one course at a time. So the first course takes awhile, but while you're enjoying each course, your next course is being prepared. All ingredients are fresh, bought the same day. After some enjoyable discussion with our waiter, we ordered the preset 4 course dinner -- I ordered the couscous chicken and my wife ordered the honey lamb. Wine for the lady, and for me a beer. I was between the Lebanese beer and the Parisian dark beer and after a convincing recommendation from our waiter I went with the dark beer. It was one of the smoothest, tastiest beers I've ever had! As each course arrived, we were blown away by the explosion of flavors without the excessive salt that most restaurants use. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the lamb fell off the bone, the presentation with each dish was beautiful and added to the lavish experience. We needed a to-go box because the main entrees were abundantly portioned. Then came the baklava! One 3-in square piece for each of us, fresh out of the oven! It was perfectly prepared and not overly sweet, full of flavor with a perfect crunch. After our meal we both couldn't stop ranting about what a great experience we had just had! We plan to go back in the next couple weeks to try the seafood dishes. Another interesting point -- often after eating tasty food, we spend the next couple hours feeling a little bloated or uneasy while we digest it, but not here. This was like an extravagant home cooked meal! There was also live entertainment coming a bit later. Our waiter said it was sometimes live Moroccan music, sometimes dancers, sometimes a belly dancer. Unfortunately we weren't able to stay for it. Hopefully we will catch one of these next time. I hate doing this because the server was actually really nice and polite but there were several things that could have been done better. First off, upon entering the host was busy talking to someone who apparently worked or was from a restaurant that had a Michelin star. We waited about 5 minutes trying to make ourselves known before the Michelin guy signaled to the host that we needed help. The restaurant was not busy; maybe 2-3 other tables were busy. The service seemed to be a little slow. We ordered the meat set item menu which came with soup, appetizers, main dish and desserts. Apparently they serve what you order one by one and wait until you are done to serve the next items. Now I've only had Moroccan food one other time and from what I remember the seasonings were more on the bland side. That was my experience with the soup and appetizers. The fried spring roll was actually pretty good though. The lemon chicken and lamb were also seasoned well enough that they were not bland so I did not have a problem with that. The dessert was supposed to be baklava but for some reason we got a dessert platter which included ice cream, dates with almond paste, crème brûlée and ice cream. The only thing I liked was the ice cream, which was the one thing that wasn't "house made." The crème brûlée tasted like a garlic clove accidentally fell in it and it tasted more like cheese than dessert. I asked the server if it was supposed to not be sweet and he said traditional crème brûlée isn't sweet. I'm not a professional chef, or pastry chef, but i have eaten a lot of things and consider myself a decent cook and baker so it just didn't sit right with me. I wish I had them taste it in front of me so I could confirm it was meant to taste that way. It tasted more like cheese with a burnt sugar topping which isn't a good combination. The restaurant is pretty nice inside though. Like I said the server was nice. The service was just slow and the food could have been better. I wish I could give it a better review. read more

We dined here last night and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and staff. This is a true hidden gem and should not be missed! We enjoyed mint tea, soup, appetizer platter, chicken couscous, honey lamb tagine, and dessert. The staff was attentive and kind. We left full and happy. Sadly, no other diners came in during our two hour feast. Please support this delicious and authentic dining option. Fantastic atmosphere, really well decorated, and the ambiance was paired well with the music. Service was terrific during the soft opening, our waitress helped explain menu items and was on top of every course. My friend and I both ordered the 4 course prefixe Meat menu, there were other options if you are vegetarian or like seafood. The soup was delicious and served with a side of lemon to add to taste. The Kemiya platter was a little bit of everything with pita, hummus, marinated carrot, and eggplant puree. I had the honey lamb and it literally fell off the bone with the sauce containing dried fruit. My friend had the Chicken Kebab and it had some sweet couscous. Dessert was a warm baklava that was sweet and nutty. Very good experience 10/10 would go again. Just look for the green door on the right behind the caboose. read more

Marrakesh is now my favorite Moroccan restaurant! It is a beautiful comfortable restaurant with Moroccan decor on the lower floor of the Packing House. I had the chicken bastilla and the lamb tagine, both of which were delicious! The music and dark interior add to the ambiance. The service is warm and kind, almost like being welcomed in to someone's home to eat like family. The food here is the best Moroccan food around, even better than when I was on a brief stop in Morocco on a tour last year. I will definitely be back to Marrakesh anytime I am in the area visiting. read more

Wow! This new restaurant on the lower level of the Anaheim Packing District is a feast for all the senses! I stepped inside the doors of the new Marrakesh restaurant and was instantly whisked away from the hustle and bustle of Anaheim CA to the soothing atmosphere of an elegant Moroccan eatery. I was greeted and seated by a friendly host who welcomed me. The decor inside is epic; it transported me back to my travels in Morocco. It was challenging for me to concentrate on selecting my meal from the menu because I wanted to study every incredible detail of this beautiful space; I enjoyed a feast for my eyes before a single plate was even brought to my table. The food was delectable - truly an authentic experience. I love honey lamb and their recipe did not disappoint! Juicy, tender, complex flavors. The appetizers were top notch as well. I am so looking forward to returning and making my way through the menu. To my delight, a dancer also performed! With some refinement to the menu, I think it could be great. The salmon had no flavor. The chicken was off. There was something in the tagine that was sour. The lamb tasted like a wet rag. The baklava was definitely underbaked. I think the best was the shrimp from the couscous. The service was wonderful and our waiter was very attentive. We had ordered a specific bottle of wine and he decided to get us a different one because "he thought it was better (Ok?) and when we asked for the check, and told him we had to get home for our baby, he said "okay" and took another hour to get us the check. The owner/ also the server of the restaurant was reluctant to refill my friend's soda and my tea at the table. He even said to my dining partner that I was high maintenance when I requested to get my tiny tea pot refilled. The hummus was very salty and the owner said there is no salt in it. My wife and I immensely enjoyed our dinning experience! We had the Lemon Corlander Romaine Salad, the delicious Bastille Chicken and the scrumptious Signature Couscous (Beef, Lamb, Chicken). Dining at Marrakesh was the worst service I've ever experienced. We asked for water 4 times before it was brought to us. We practically had to beg for menus. Everything was super slow. A couple seated near our table came after us and got everything well before we did. Our food would be ready, but we could see it sitting, just waiting for our server to stop chatting and actually bring it. Our baklava sat so long it got hard and cold. Our cocktails didn't come until halfway through the meal after we asked for them several times. I am frankly shocked at the negative reviews of this place, as I had an excellent experience here. Service was friendly and fast, some of the warmest and kindest people I've encountered in food service. The environment was cozy and beautifully decorated, with a belly dancer as entertainment, who even invited me up to dance with her and showed me some moves! The food was ASTOUNDING quality, with classic rich Mediterranean flavors. It was clear everything was made in-house and fresh. Impeccable hummus, eggplant, seasoned carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes. The lamb was tender, the chicken was beautifully cooked, and everything tasted phenomenal. When I heated up my leftovers at work the next day, my coworkers were all interested in trying a bite because the smell was just heavenly! And yes, they all agreed, the food is delicious! What a find! Tucked away behind BXCR Underground cocktail bar, this place has all the cozy vibes of a Moroccan eatery ! We ordered the Kimeya Platter and the Honey Lamb tagine . It was perfect. The platter had a variety of mezze, incredibly fresh and delicious. The Lamb tagine did not disappoint. The meat was fall off the bone tender with dried apricots and prunes stewed in. This place is a gem. The food, ambiance, and service were all excellent. We were a party of 7 for a birthday, and were seated in a private room attached to the main dining room. Service felt like being invited into someone's home - warm and inviting. We shared an appetizer platter and ordered mostly from the tagine menu - honey lamb, salmon, lemon chicken, and veggie - with sides of couscous, rice and potatoes. All were excellent. We were too full for dessert but shared a few pieces of baklava, which was fresh, crispy and yummy. The birthday boy was treated to complimentary baklava and scotch. I visit the location on Ventura Blvd many years ago and loved it. I saw that a new location has opened in Anaheim and decided to try it. No reclining on the floor like I remember at the other location, but they created a quiet, intimate environment within the bustling packing district food court. Attentive and friendly service. The Marrakesh Restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere with true Moroccan appeal - tents draped around cosy table nooks, patterned Berber-style pillows, brass trays and scenes of Morocco create a delightful ambiance. And the authentic Moroccan food was sooo delicious! The lamb shank tagine, couscous with stewed vegetables and mergez sausages were superb! The portions were so large, we had enough for another meal today! The service was exceptional, too, so warm and responsive. We wrapped up our celebration with yummy baklava, ice cream and mint tea. I hate to give one star because these are nice people and I want them to succeed, but nothing was working right. The restaurant was nearly empty at what is normally a very busy time for restaurants, the decor is so-so. It took an insane amount of time for any food to arrive and the order was messed up. The bigger problem, though, is the chef. My dining companion's meat was grilled to the point of leather and she had asked for it rare. The food was sorely lacking in the wonderful warm spices that the cuisine is known for. No hint of saffron etc. The honey lamb did fall off the bone, but all I could taste was honey. It was drenched in honey! Couldn't taste lamb, couldn't taste spice. The bastilla wasn't sprinked with powdered sugar and cinnamon, it was thickly coated with them. Again, all I could taste was sugar and cinnamon in a dish that normally has such wonderful, complex flavors. It's hard work to cook Moroccan food because it's pretty complicated, with lots of spices and other flavors, and some difficult techniques like dealing with filo dough, which was why I wanted to go out for it, but I'll go back to home cooking. read more
