Families Beware We stopped by Chubby Dumpling while visiting Anaheim because our family loves Asian food. Unfortunately, we never got the chance to try the food because of the way we were treated. When I asked if they had a kids' menu, the gentleman behind the register (long curly hair, darker complexion) scoffed, smiled, and said, "We don't have a kids' menu," in a way that made it feel like my question was ridiculous. That was enough to make us feel unwelcome before we had even ordered. The ironic part is that we weren't looking for chicken nuggets and fries. Our kids have grown up eating pho, bún bò Huế, ramen, dumplings, vermicelli bowls, salmon, teriyaki chicken, and all kinds of Asian cuisine. Our 4-year-old regularly eats broth over rice, and our 13-year-old has been eating pho since before they were a year old. We were simply hoping for smaller portions because kids don't eat as much as adults. I was honestly surprised that a restaurant located so close to Disneyland, where thousands of families visit every day, doesn't offer a kids' menu or any kid-sized portions. The least expensive fried rice option was around $17-18 for a vegetable fried rice with no meat. That's a lot to spend on a meal for a child when much of it will likely go to waste while you're on vacation. We ended up leaving without ordering anything. I'm disappointed because I was genuinely looking forward to trying the dumplings. They may be excellent--I honestly don't know because we never got the opportunity. Unfortunately, the customer service made us decide to spend our money elsewhere. If you're visiting with children, don't assume a restaurant serving dumplings and other Asian dishes near Disneyland will have family-friendly portions or a welcoming attitude. This was my first time here, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. We ordered a beef noodle soup, pork xiao long bao, and a minced pork noodle soup around 8:00 PM. The pork xiao long bao came out around 8:20 PM, but after that, we waited over an hour for the two noodle dishes. Around 9:10 PM, we asked the staff about our missing food. The person at the front blamed another employee who had gone on break, and our order had apparently been made as takeout instead of dine-in. It wasn't remade until around 9:25 PM. Before that, we had already asked multiple times about our missing food, and each time the staff just said, "One moment," but never came back to update us. The restaurant is small, and it was obvious we had been sitting there with only one dish for over an hour. On top of the poor service, I was also concerned by what I saw in the kitchen. One cook was touching multiple pieces of kitchen equipment and utensils before reaching into the freezer and handling frozen dumplings without changing gloves or washing their hands. I also saw another cook holding a bundle of noodles against his shirt before cooking them. Seeing these food handling practices was unsanitary and made me question the restaurant's cleanliness and food safety standards. Waiting over an hour after paying while watching everyone else get served was incredibly frustrating, especially since we were starving. To make matters worse, the food wasn't even worth the wait. Chubby Dumpling was good, but pricey. I came here with friends to share the food family style - we ordered soup dumplings, cucumber salad, wonton dumplings, cold noodle, and shumai. The flavor of the dumplings, wonton dumplings, and shumai were awesome, with the perfect seasoning, level of chili oil, and seasoning - think of it as very similar to dim sum, The dumpling sauce was also very tasty and tangy. The cold noodles were okay - most of the flavor came from the minced pork as opposed to the sauce, but the minced pork was tasty! The cucumber salad was subpar to traditional restaurants and it almost appeared soggy which bummed me out - it also lacked flavor. This is a great Asian spot near Disney that isn't Din Tai Fung. The employees are really nice. Service is quick. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. A restroom is available. Free parking in a small rear lot shared with Walgreens (it will look like you're pulling in to Hyatt parking). Mild noise level inside; can be noisy outside depending on how busy the adjacent road is. They have a good amount of food and drink options, from noodles and rice to dumplings and pig ears. Fountain drinks are self-serve, and they also offer canned and bottled drinks. The veggie dishes, fried rice, and noodles are delicious. I highly recommend the spicy wontons. Their dim sum options aren't the best I've ever had, but their other menu items make up for it. You order at the kiosk and pick up your food when your number is called (they sometimes bring it out to you if you're outside). Prices are on the higher side, so don't go here on a budget. That was a bummer but did not want to leave anymore and find another spot so we stuck around and ordered whatever was left. Some pork shrimp chives dumplings that I can't even taste the chives. The pork and shrimp spicy dumplings, this was ok. We ordered the bao buns, Dan Dan and wagyu stir fry noodles. The noodles were pretty good. The bao buns my kids loved. As a very experienced dumpling eater, I have to say these dumplings are not what we expected. First of all, they were all out of juicy pork dumplings (XLB), it's disappointing as that is the most popular dish to eat at a dumpling shop. Secondly, the boiled dumplings that we ordered are not freshly made, you can see the freeze burn on the top of the thick skin dumplings. Third, the overall food was not good. I have no idea how Yelp ratings were so high. :) Popcorn chicken - these little popper were hot and good :| Dandan noodles - the flavor was odd and didn't have the heat I would expect from these noodles, they were a total failure :( Boiled pork/shrimp dumplings - no bueno! freezer burn and thick skin was not good, we had to leave the top part of the skin off to eat it :( Mushroom pan fried dumplings - no bueno! it was filled with mushrooms but it lacked flavor and need to be juicy or some kind of gravy. The chicken pot stickers were good but I just didn't like that they had corn in them. The won ton were ok. Just tasted a little bland. We were in the Anaheim area after exploring Disneyland and decided to try this place before calling it a night. Too bad for us because most of the items were already gone when we visited. They didn't have the XLB dumplings, which I was so looking forward to trying! Upon entering, the staff already told us to go ahead and order from the self-order screen, but they were there in case we had any questions. We ended up only getting the shumai, scallion noodle, the spicy wontons, and a fountain drink. 4 items, and it costs us about $45. The shu Mai was only 4 small pieces, the scallion noodles had a nice aroma, came with half an egg, and tasted pretty decent. The spicy wonton came pretty late, as we were wrapping up with the other items. The sauce was okay, but the wonton itself was so-so. This place supposedly had a Michelin star, but I think there are better restaurants out there. It's just that if you're in the area, there really aren't any other options if you're craving something like dumplings/noodles. The staff also doesn't make all the food fresh; if you order rice dishes, they come out of a plastic package, which they heat up and nicely plate. The place is small, but they do have seating areas both inside and outside. Oh no honey, this place is not it. I'm so sad because when we visited before, it was Luscious and Delicious and this new version is neither. What the heck happened? It still had plenty of customers and they have a new big screen ordering system, which is nice but the food lacked flavor. Huge difference from before. The employees did not address us at all when we walked in, while we were ordering or any time. Kinda weird. Restaurant was clean, bright and had plenty of napkins, utensils, sauces, etc. avail. We ordered the pork buns but was given one custard bun, so we went back to ask for the right item. The shrimp shumai was pretty tasty, prob the best thing. Cucumber salad, so watered down but they give tons of cucumber, too bad not worth eating. The dan dan noodles were decent but again, lacked flavor. The fried wonton was good, came with a spicy sauce. And the sesame oil wontons were decent, but small portion with just as much veggie as wonton in the bowl. They were sold out of soup dumplings so can't say how those were. We ordered for pick up on a Friday night, and the eta was 45 minutes, we arrived after 20 minutes, and the entire place was empty and our food was waiting.. already cold. The mushroom dumpling was so undercooked, the tip where the folds are were so hard, it was inedible. The pork dumplings were alright, the shrimp wontons were way spicier than expected. The buns tasted like they were frozen from the grocery store.. the custard texture was chunky and greenish (the pics were yellow) and not oozy like it should be. We had placed the order on the Toast app, and it specifically asked for dipping sauces for each dumpling dish we ordered and there were no dipping sauces in sight. Wanted to like this place more, but honestly can't recommend it. Prices are incredibly high for the mediocre quality of food and dumplings provided. Tables and service area is dirty and sticky. Not sure when they cleaned everything. Trays and surfaces are wet and gross. Food portions are tiny. The noodle dish clearly felt slapped together with cold food from the fridge - the egg and veggies were refrigerator cold, while the noodles and beef sauce were hot. Staff is fine. Parking is very limited in the hotel/Walgreens parking lot adjacent. Limited seating inside. I think most of the folks who loved this place don't eat a lot of Chinese-style dumplings. The owner was very nice and the employees. Its self order on the iPad. The food was very good ! My personal favorite was the shumai so good. The portions are a bit small. Was in the Anaheim area for a meeting and stumbled upon this place while searching for dinner. Come to find out, they are part of the chubby family! Of course, I had to try it out. As you enter, you order through an iPad, find a table to sit, and wait for your name to be called. Ended up getting the Wagyu beef dandan noodles, salt & pepper popcorn chicken, and steamed pork and shrimp dumplings. The menu seemed to be limited once dinner time came, so you are not able to order some items you might have wanted to try out. Overall experience: The dandan noodles blew my mind! The steamed dumplings were what I expected although the salt&pepper popcorn chicken seemed overcooked and tasted they were sitting out in the warmer for some time. read more

During my visit to Disneyland I found Chubby Dumplings while walking around. The next day I ordered dinner from their website to pick up. My order was ready early, packaged well, and tasted delicious. There was a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outside, but I took them to my hotel to eat. I ordered the Wagyu salt and pepper dumplings gyoza style, bbq pork bao buns, and garlic ponzu sauce. Everything was delicious, hearty, and fresh. Great restaurant with great food! I stopped by with a few friends here at this Chubby Dumplings and was very pleasantly surprised at how good the food is. It's a small, quaint little shop nestled in a little mini shopping plaza store front. We would have dined in, but the place was full and very busy with lots of orders. Kiosk ordering was the only way to order, which was perfect for me. I actually prefer it that way. The food took a bit to be made, but it was well worth the wait! I like their quick serve style. If there are no tables available when you arrive, just keep an eye out as the tables clear up pretty quickly. This is a bit between quick service and sit down. Those who sit down tend to leave as soon as they finish to do the next thing and won't really hog the table too long. Water is self-serve, so super great here. Food come out in little to-go containers, which I appreciate because now I don't have to wait a second time to head out. You can order at the kiosk as well, giving the employees here more time to focus on making the food. It's a really efficient restaurant. My only down side is it is on the pricier side for what they give you. Wagyu Beef Soup Dumplings (6P) -Very flavorful and juicy. But for the price and the way the beef is prepared? I recommend skipping if you're planning to order a lot. If it's the only thing you're ordering, go for it. Wontons in Szechuan Chili - I liked, but my friends LOVED. They ended up dipping the other dumplings into this sauce because it was so flavorful. You'll get 4 thumbs up from them Dan Dan Sesame Noodles - Good chunk of noodles, good flavor, gives you a bit more filling if you're pairing it with noodles Popcorn Chicken - Yeah, I know it's a basic choice, but no regrets. The seasoning for the chicken was spot on. And if you combine it with the sauce from the Szechuan chili? Superb. Try eating them separately, but don't be afraid to mix the sauces too. Stopped by to try the original Xiao Long Bao (XLB). This was more of a quick serve fast casual restaurant concept. You place the order via a kiosk and hunt down a place to sit and eat. The location definitely gets a lot of foot traffic because of its proximity to Disneyland and the convention center. I was bummed to see that the original pork XLB was sold out when we got there. We pivoted and ordered the wagyu XLB instead. The dumpling was juicy and tasty. We had to be careful pulling the bao off the steam paper, thankfully it's in a take out container so we didn't lose the soup in the steamed baskets. I also ordered the popcorn chicken and shumai which was good as well. But was mainly there to try the XLBs. We wanted to order more XLB and found out even the beef XLBs were sold out which meant we had probably took the last few order while we were there. Will probably need to get there earlier if we wanted to have the original XLBs. read more
